Sigil; A Broken City of Doors (Inactive)

Game Master Green Smashomancer

Gateways into and leading out of the City of Doors are vanishing, along with the source in some cases. Even with her might, the Lady of Pain herself cannot locate the source of this pandemic. In the interest of pre-empting this from growing into a catastrophe, the party has been selected as a chosen few from across the planes to investigate.

Hey, welcome back!

Gilly grasps the cube-mass. It’s cool and smooth to the touch, but with a faint heat that fades as the bariaur continues to hold it. Good news and bad news. Good news is that Gilly can carry the metal block. The bad news is that this is still a cubic foot of metal, and thus heavy. The other good news is that this is mithral rather than iron, so instead of weighing nearly 500 lbs, it only weighs 246 lbs instead.

”Ah 11-z-α. Good, audio software no damage. Still use Manifold-Irving components for vocal? Ehh. Test. What happen to other part of group? Was told five. See only four.”

Eleven:
Wasn’t sure when this would come up BUT here are some extra bits Eleven may know or notice about her contact:

Devic already had most of the cybernetic augmentations when Eleven first met her, but the eye-plate is brand new. She was serious when she said she had "a big planning” for more changes as things would seem.

Magni is also a new addition, and this rat isn’t the social type. Odd, but maybe she’s been getting better about social behavior?

It starts slowly at first, some might not even notice it. But moments later it becomes obvious that the ground beneath the parties feet is shaking. But how? This is a large suspended platform. Suspended in the air at that.

”Chto? Kolyarut no do that.”

“There it is. I knew we weren’t gonna get peace and quiet for long. *Sigh* I’ll get the dane axe again.” Devic and Magni respond with suspicion to the disturbance as they look about. The lights in the room shift to a warm red.

"Ooh! Da, da. I get guns."

Gilly's muscles glisten in the light as he carries the mithral box. He presses it with one arm and then the other seemingly effortlessly. He flexes afterwards. Gilly'd be at light load if it weren't for all the baskets.

Gilly pulls out a basket from his bag that has not right containing it and looks at it fondly stroking it's gray reeds, lingering on what vaguely looks like a misshapen cat face. He sets it on the ground but comes back for it a moment later.

He says to Devic hopefully, "Big guns?"

”We’re gonna start packing, let us know what’s going on out there.”

“Da. Or if guns you like.”

And as the next door opens a shadow looms over the ground. An alarm in the distance perhaps redundantly alerts residents of this neighborhood in Aetganos to the danger above. In the distance a ship seemingly designed for the sea hovers in the sky against the sun as small dots descend from the craft. It’s difficult to note much detail in the craft from here. Smoke rises down at the nearby neighborhood.

The ship begins to turn starboard.

”Feh! You forget who you talking to? Davai, meet new friends.”

Devic and Magni enter the overhang door with Eleven ducking in behind them. The next room is entirely unimpressive at first glance. The ceiling is overrun with pipes and pistons and barely high enough for Magni to stand straight, never mind the curious android. The rest is furnished in the sense that there are two milk crates (One concave from use) a bare plastic table and a refrigerator. With cots against the wall to the left of the door finishing the room to complete the bare industrial look.

Magni reaches for something behind the refrigerator and Eleven hears a crank in the walls. The walls shift ever-so-slightly.

”Since you’ve apparently met Devic, I’m sure you know what she means when she mentions friends. She means things she made.”

“Da, are reliable. Not like you.”

The rack slides gracefully, almost dramatically even, down the wall as Devic and Magni chide each other. Each moment revealing more of it’s contents as it shifts with metal rods holding their contents up with a holographic display denoting the names of each. Though the names are denoted with serial numbers, Devic introduces them with names like Anastasia and Anatolia and… Charlie.

  • ”Anastasia. Is simple laser bullpup with lightweight reinforced darkwood frame. Gets past metal detectors since I ehh, do not. Druid approved in case we fall below yellow cloud.” [It actually looks like an unremarkable diminutive attache case. The covert option it seems.]

  • ”Anatolia. Multi-barreled laserwave using frequencies of highest end of electromagnetic spectrum as well as negative energy. As consequence range is ehh, doo-doo water. Works in progress, I put knife on end for now.” [A bulky mass of six rotating barrels and dark metal. An adjustable handle on top and on the end emphasize the spray and pray nature of Anatolia.]

  • ”Avantasia. Is ehh, railgun. It go bang. Only one with scope. You want sight, give zhis a try.” [Avantasia is not just named after an obscure band, but also a long thin rifle with coils welded into place between twin barrels. Devics work isn’t usually pretty, but it is potent.]

  • ”Charlie. Was gift from mama, you know already. Is only to be use of me. Tell gazyol he keep hands off or he catch hands. New, adamantine-zhread hands. My hands. I hit him in mouth. Am bad with veiled threats, was clear?” [This is a small pistol of an archaic design, albeit modified to the point that its original shape is unrecognizable now. Even since the last time Eleven saw Devic with it, the gun’s been adjusted.]

  • ”Dysphasia. Concussive cannon with 40 millimeter barrel. Less-lethal option weapon, but bylat you wish it does kill.” [Looks like a rifle refitted into an ersatz mortar. Hand etched grenade sights glow with a faint crackle of violet.]

“Not quite finish with testing yet, but sounding like good time for test outside.” As Devic introduces her other recent projects Magni takes up the axe from before. Held up to the high-concept weaponry being showcased it looks almost comically crude. Nevertheless he takes up arms with a confident bearing.

”These are more reliable than me, are they? Dunno about that.”

“Silence, or I make Alopecia next.”

If eleven or anyone else who comes back in wants some pro-bono loot, now’s the time to choose. Well, except the axe.

Outside the rest of the party finds the path to the rest of this neighborhood is unobstructed as of now, but still a few minutes of travel from here.

Yet, there’s the unmistakable sound of warriors in metal clashing loudly to the side past the trees lining this once-peaceful road.

    What do we do?

Special: When you make a single attack in a round, Avantasia can be used to target the touch AC of the opponent. Additionally, the sights on the scope function halfway between a spyglass and a telescope. Objects viewed through these sights are magnified to twice their size, and the increase in DC to spot a distant object or creature increases by 1 for every 20 feet rather than ten. Clear weather conditions may permit a better distance.
    ---------------------------------------------------

After Eleven and Telin check in, Magni moves the fridge more to reveal a panel. This like everything else in this building seems to be more than meets the eye. It features a lever marked in bright red lettering “EMERGENCY EXIT”. After pulling it, a thin wall pulls up, and the air in the room gusts forth. The wall opens to a billowing sensation and the scent of ozone when the open air comes into view. Nothing but space lays on the other side of this doorway as Magni and Devic make last minute preparations to depart, seemingly this way rather than the front door. Devic puts on some vest made of light material and puts a hoodie on over it. Meanwhile Magni lifts Dysphasia strapped to his back and casts something before stepping to the ledge.

    ”We meet soon, da?”

The ground (well, not exactly “ground” but the manufactured gold-tinted smooth material that serves the same purpose around Aetganos) rumbles again, this time outside. Gilly approaches the audible conflict through some brush.

At the edge of this platform he sees two figures. One, the Kolyarut RD-4D4. Still with his characteristic golden cloak, the only way to tell Kolyaruts apart really. But the inevitable is in combat with another. Not a Kolyarut, but a distinctively azure, angular robotic figure the size of a man. It’s frame is sleek but visibly damaged from this conflict.
A swerve of blades between servants of steel only lasts a moment longer when the shriek of metal slides… right through RD. But not without his own blade puncturing and nearly severing the left arm of his aggressor. From the ledge falls the inevitable, once mighty. And the other robot turns to face Gilly. It’s blade retracts into the right forearm. It’s destroyed arm falls at it’s side as a line of small blue lights on it’s head lock onto Gilly. A static-corrupted voice calls out the blue machines intentions clearly:

    ”TARGET VERIFIED; COMMENCING HOSTILITIES”

This can be heard clear through the distance to Telin and Tak at least.

She focused and aimed, taking care to track is movements, the scope placed the Robot smack in the middle of her sights. She sent the signal to fire.
There was a kick as the rail gun shot its slug across the space to the Robot attacker.

I get it! AC 18, not 19? The armored construct lurches back as sparks fly from the force of Gilly’s ramming speed. It returns to a threatening stance rapidly and just as suddenly lashes forward with the blade in it’s arm! The strikes are rapid, but seemingly off-center.

    Blue Att: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
    Dam: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

As Eleven was in a basement when the fight began, she will need to spend at least a round moving into position for a shot. But a pair of natural twenties would be a shame to waste, so we’ll use those rolls for an attack the following round. Unless Johnny would like to do otherwise, round 2 looks like this for Eleven: A shot only an android could make rings out from behind Telin and Tak as a metal slug flies past them and the woody brush between Eleven and her target. (19 damage to “Blue”)

    Knowledge: Eleven:
Eleven’s quick study of the blue (really, it’s more of a navy blue with maya blue countershading) opponent through her scope doesn’t reveal specific weaknesses unfortunately. The unit in conflict with Gilly is heavily damaged from it’s previous brawl, the exposed inner workings look like a fusion of magic runes and technological circuitry. The blade it extends from it’s arm to strike seems magical for instance. What armor it does have is likely compromised generally rather than in a specific location.

If Telin follows through on his readied action, he will attack at a -12 (-4 as the target is in his third range increment, and -8 for attacking while Blue is in melee with Gilly.) penalty. Does he proceed? This is also assuming he avoids the brush between the road and the cloudy void beneath everyone present.

Tak makes his way to the sound of combat as fast as his legs can carry him and his large small axe.. And that’s pretty fast in fact. Likewise, if Tak takes a run action he can move 160 ft in this round. That will leave him 125 ft from the next map. Does he proceed?

I’m putting a link to a google slide presentation for this game in the Campaign Info tab. Please note there are multiple slides. Any and all tips/criticism are welcome on how I can improve the maps I make. Turns out I made Aetganos a little too specific in style to really find any map sets that work (yet). Instead of a dirt path like you see on the map, if you would, imagine a smooth and somewhat gold-tinted tiling surface with a hexagonal pattern. And it looks like it’s the coolest ever you guys.

Looks great. The only thing I'd suggest is adding the link to either the short description in the campaign, or to one of the following fields for your GM profile: Race, Classes/Levels, Gender. It will make it slightly easier to access for everyone.

You're right that it's wrong but it's even worse than I thought, 17. Shield is not equipped and Gilly charged for a total of -4 AC than normal. My action will take a little bit, I'm suffering from paradox of choice for what to do.

    A s~!$-eating grin crosses Gilly's face.

The decision paralysis is real strong with the brawler. Even when I keep a list of feats on standby, I end up stuck.

The weapon is a part of the creature itself and as such can't be disarmed or sundered.

But the slug just bounced off the target doing little real harm. A true rail gun would have punched a whole throw the thing. She looked down at the rail gun. She had hit the robot with two accurate targeted attacks. But it was clear this was not true rail gun was little more than a cheap weak copy of the real thing. She would has to see if she could make it work better later right now the target was still going. Pushing the pop gun around to her back, on its sling, She pulled her revolvers started to run to the fight.

Gilly gives the cube a dramatic toss behind him. It unceremoniously slides straight from his hand into the tiling before it even leaves his fingers with a *clang* that deadens as suddenly as it started. The bariaur rears up like a horse about to traumatize a child, but his conscience or the surprisingly nimble legs of his opponent deflect his attack.

Gilly's opponent continues to strike its quarry with bladed jabs and strange audio ramblings. Gilly takes 12 more damage.

Tak has 35 ft to choose his remaining movement before his round three action. I’ve moved his token to the appropriate field.

Telin lifts himself into the air and closes in for a better vantage point to engage the as of now, barely visible enemy. If he spends both previous rounds making the equivalent run action, he will be 25 feet from the visible map with Gilly, Tak and Blue. That is still within the second range increment of his shortbow however, along with the high ground bonus. Another move action would get him next to the square I have placed Taks token in.

Gilly changes his stance subtly to favor his arms over his legs for attacking, while planting all four legs for better leverage.

    Unarmed strike, combat expertise: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 9 - 1 = 21
    Bludgeoning: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 4) + 7 = 16

    AC 22

My bad, I thought I left the link open to editing. Everyone should be able to move their tokens now. Lemme know if there are further problems.

The weight of solid metal pushes back under the force of Gilly’s fist before the aggressor buckles from the blow. If only momentarily.

    Dam: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

The menace takes a pair of clumsy lunging jabs forward to follow Gilly. As this exchange goes on, it becomes clear that despite blow after blow this blue mechanical foe, much like an emotionally healthy relationship is recovering from it all in time. Even the arm it lost in the last fight has begun to rebuild itself from seemingly nothing. Right now though, it’s just a nub. Just a tiny little nub.

The rest of the party finally closes in on the combat to find Gilly actually knows how to fight. How bout that? Unfortunately, it looks like his mysterious opponent does as well.

Telin has 25 feet to go before reaching the mapspace. Eleven has a bit further to go. I’m going to assume Eleven uses her previous action of firing then moving on round three, unless stated otherwise. This leaves her with 175 ft left to go.

Tak closes in first, ready to make a move into the fray.

Gilly grabs ahold of the blue robots newly sprouted handle. But alas, it’s freshly coated in a layer of grease aiding the mechanical foes escape from his grasp.

Tak rushes into the fray with a powerful swing, however it falls just short of the nimble construct as the thing barely slips away from his axe.

    Att 1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
    Dam: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

    Att 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
    Dam: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Now surrounded, the bot doesn’t seem to consider it’s actions very thoroughly as it continues to target it’s first opponent.

I’m gonna bot Telin and Eleven’s actions for round four.

    FoB: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 Including flank
    Dam: 1d3 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (5, 3) = 14

    Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15 Pass
Telin finally descends onto Gilly’s aggressor, swinging down hard onto something cylindrical on the robots rear left shoulder. Who knows what that is but it looks important right? The initial downswing slides off its remaining armor, but telin’s perseverance pays off with a follow-up chop to the same place. An old eldritch curse begins to take hold of the metal enemy. Side note, I didn’t know you could choose to use hex strike after the attack roll is made until I reread it. That’s more useful than I thought.

Eleven continues to approach the growing conflict. The ship in the distance has started moving, and seems to be circling to another floating isle nearby. I’m unclear how Eleven has a 40 ft move speed, as it isn’t a part of the standard Android race abilities. Nor is envoy, are these leftover from when she had the template? But if that’s true from a buff or other source, she’s only 15 ft away from the map titled “Vs. Blue” and within the range of her revolvers to target touch AC.
