Leading onward, the group follows Vlad and Coral on the brick walkway into a wider open area. Several willow trees cluster here, many with nests built in them. TG1 | GW | FF | RH

You've seen a crow like this before.

Arcana DC13:
The dread witchcrow, renowned as a harbinger of ill deeds and misfortune, preys on the weak and spies on the unwary.

Clever, manipulative, and avaricious in the extreme, these birds have no conscience and know no fear. Witchcrows strive to steal not only victims’ most cherished possessions, but their hopes and dreams as well. They delight in bringing anguish and sowing doubt even as they offer falsely friendly advice designed to tear down alliances, dupe the gullible, and compromise the virtuous. Despite their deceptive nature, witchcrows can also hold valuable information—or come by such if paid to retrieve it.

Knowledge Nature DC13:
Arising from the bones sloughed from mortal bodies by souls moving on to their final planar destinations, bonewrought willows grow in lonely places in Purgatory. Despite their undead appearance, these trees are actually alive, growing in the shape of weeping willows to symbolize the loss associated with the deaths that created them. Stray soul fragments remain in a bonewrought willow, giving it a dim intelligence and a keen awareness of living and undead creatures in its vicinity. Bonewrought willows serve as protectors of the dead. They often distrust the living and shake their rattling branches to scare such creatures away. When pressed into combat, a bonewrought willow usually starts by disgorging a spray of partially digested bone fragments at its enemies and then follows up with slam attacks.

Lola and Coral search about and find the only trinkets of value are lodged in the branches of a willow: a ring of protection +1 that resembles a unicorn impaling itself with its horn, a scroll of false life, a cloudy air elemental gem, and 43 gp.

As the party starts to take the loot, the fifteen foot tall weeping willow tree begins to shake about eerily. It that has a pale and mottled trunk that is contorted into twisted and torturous forms, and long branches made of bones and fibrous fronds. Everyone is shaken for a few rounds, the number varies for each of you. The DC of this check is equal to 10 + the target’s Hit Dice + the target’s Wisdom modifier. This duration increases by 1 round for every 5 by which you beat the DC.

Coral's usually capable reflexes fail her, and she take the full brunt of the blast. Fortunately, Marya is there to stop the bleeding.
19 damage taken, and 2 healed? Marya only heals half the indicated amount because of Variant Channeling?

Coral tries to assist Vlad's next strike.
Aid Another, IC, Bless, Shaken: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 22 +4 to Vlad's attack. So even if he is Misfortuned by the crows he might still hit.

@Vlad - at the time the crow tried to curse you, you had both Coral and Lola adjacent, so Shake it Off is +3 (2 allies and Coral increases the bonus by 1). And Shaken is -2.

Sorry Damian, here is the previous round - Damian crow damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 +3 from bleed.

Lola hits the tree, but finds her spear isn't as effective as Vlad's warhammer when damaging it.

Coral tries to help Vlad, but the bad luck upon him causes him to miss. A witchcrow flies around behind him, flanking with the tree and buries a talon into his back. Vlad Damage : 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 As he turns to look at what hit him, the tree slashes out and slams a branch into his other side. Just before the branch hits him, Coral pulls Vlad's left shoulder back and the branch flies wide over his head, missing.

Damian blesses his allies and when the crow in front of him moves up and slashes at him with its claws, he is able to dodge both attacks.

Fenna knows witchcrows have neither special attacks nor noteworthy defenses other than a resistance to cold. Feena's ray scorches the crow badly, smoke arising from its charred body that continues to fly in front of her. It moves up and slashes at her with both of its claws, raking her face with one of them Damage Feena: 1d6 ⇒ 2

It was hard to aim at the witchcrows, the way they were flying back and forth. Instead, Damian focuses on helping Vlad - perhaps there was something he could do from a distance, take the warrior's hurt onto himself...

Establish Life Link with Vlad - if Vlad takes 5 or more damage, he heals 5 and Damian takes 5 damage on the start of Damian's next turn.
