Dana walks with slow steps and is not the most gracile or beautiful woman from Tian Xia.

"Greetings to you all." says the corpulant woman with a self-confident smile.

Her asymmetrically cut black hair with pink highlights looks strange and exotic. She is wearing a full plate armor that clearly encumbers her heavily and with which she walks slowly.

Her armor has gadgets and colored leather straps which are more fashion items than functional adventure gear. A small buckler is attached to her left arm. She also carries a backpack.

Resting on top of her chest, an amulet showing the holy symbol of Chaldira Zuzaristan is visible.

She does not really have a natural presence and unfortunately might come across as aloof or arrogant.

Facing you all she bows but more out of tradition than courtesy you believe.

Ruby Phoenix Tournament Games I've Played (Session Tracker)

The summons you received from Master of Spells Aram Zey leads you to a vault under the Pathfinder Grand Lodge in Absalom. Yet, it also advised you to dress warmly, though there is no cold weather for hundreds of miles in any direction.

When you arrive you see a five-by-seven-foot tapestry hangs on the wall, surrounded by a series of platforms and ladders to allow a close view of any spot upon it. The room is otherwise empty, save for the Pathfinder Society’s Master of Spells, Aram Zey, who paces impatiently before the Hao Jin Tapestry, glancing up as the door creaks open.

“Thank you for your quick arrival, Pathfinders,” Zey says curtly, speaking without making eye contact, as though his mind is moving faster than his mouth. As he continues his focused pacing, he gestures toward the tapestry.

“As I’m sure you know, we recently came into possession of this wonder behind me—the Hao Jin Tapestry—by winning the Ruby Phoenix Tournament in distant Goka. Within this piece of fabric lies an entire world in which one of Golarion’s greatest magicians placed treasures and mysteries beyond imagining. And it was supposed to be ours alone. This promise of exclusive access was made a lie, however, when the Aspis Consortium found a way into Hao Jin’s astral vault that bypassed the tapestry altogether, and Aspis agents are now busy stealing whatever they can move, hoping we will act too slowly to protect our winnings. Fortunately, a recent mission into the tapestry managed to uncover a clue about a possible Aspis base within the tapestry. That is your destination.

“The camp, interestingly, is within a great stone temple complex uprooted from the Vudran jungle many centuries ago by the sorceress herself. Since her disappearance, that part of the tapestry has been encased in a massive glacier. This temple—dedicated to a Vudran monkey-god, we believe— could prove enlightening on its own, notwithstanding the Aspis presence there. It’s a grim thought imagining what the Consortium has done to the place, but apparently more than three-quarters of it is still protected by the glacier, so we can still salvage a great deal.

“Vanaras—the simian humanoids responsible for constructing this temple—are great builders, and this temple is representative of the huge complexes that once graced the Vimada Forest before their wars with men and the rise of Khiben-Sald. It’s a representation of the cosmos, really, a series of nested squares with symbolic shrine-mountains all directed toward great Bahmenu, the mountain birthplace of the god Ragdya and, the vanaras believe, the center of the universe. This symmetry may serve you well, since it will help you predict the layout and functions of the temple as you make your way around it. Every corner of the temple will be fitted with a small shrine, all facing the symbolic mountain.”

“Even an abandoned temple is a holy place to the vanaras, as it is to most of us Vudrani as well, and we hope you respect that fact. If you can save the sanctuary from the insolence of the gods-damned Aspis, it may draw the mirthful and enlightened eye of Ragdya himself upon our Society.”

Feel free to chime in and introduce your characters and ask any questions of Zey. We'll call this our soft start but I'll wait for everyone to get their characters worked up and posted before really moving along.

Still making tweaks to this character, but I'll be good to go anytime soon

A tall, sturdily built man, walks in. The air around him sparks and shimmers with a cold, chaotic energy that swirls behind him as he moves, quickly dissipating. While purposeful, his movement feels rushed and somewhat erratic- as if you are never sure whether he will stop, sprint, or something in between. His skin is a somewhat off-putting blue/white tint, that somewhat resembles scales if you look too closely. A quick glance at his hand shows fingers that come to sharp points, almost as if they were claws. He is dressed extravagantly in flowing white and blue robes, accented with gold trim.

Despite this, he is handsome and charismatic, black hair swept back by a headband and a well maintained goatee.

*twitch*

"Well, of course we can mange that for you Master. Seems well within our skillsets if you ask me. Now tell me, how long would you say these ruins been under Aspis control. May take us a while to air out the stench, but that should be the least of your concerns."

He looks at the other gathered pathfinders, and smiles.

"And where are my manners? Kal'ryon, at your service. I know what you are thinking. Kal? Rryon? It doesn't matter to me! I am glad to make your acquaintance. Be Pleased" and he stoops into a sweeping bow.

Addressing Aram Zey, "What was the aracnist's field of specialty? Besides the Aspis and ice, any other dangers known to be in the area?"

Ruby Phoenix Tournament Games I've Played (Session Tracker)

"Eh?" Zey says, turning his attention back to the gathering Pathfinders. After giving his briefing, he glanced at the tapestry and, as he was looking away something caught his attention. He moved closer, studying a section and even bringing a magnifying glass up to it.

Now, reluctantly he answers Kal'Ryon. "So much to study...so many distractions. We don't know exactly how long they've had their camp there. We caught wind that they were setting up a camp in this glacier. Our analysis of the patterns and shapes on the tapestry indicates that this is where they must be doing so, but until you go and investigate, we won’t know much more."

"Do you mean Hao Jin? She's the sorceress who created this tapestry and the demiplane that it links to. You don't have to worry about what she did beyond that. She created this as a sort of personal museum and did little to tinker with what she took there. Unfortunately, the tapestry became unstable after her death, which is why we have a jungle temple being engulfed by a glacier."

"As far as what you'll face, I can only tell you to expect Apsis and since they come in all manner of nasty shapes and sizes and abilities..." he breaks off with an eloquent shrug.

He stands and introduces himself, rather loudly for the circumstance, almost like he's shouting above a loud noise or wind. "I'M WADDI." He shakes his head as he realizes he isn't using his indoor voice.

"Waddi. Hunter. Explorer. What are Aspis? Do they die like men, if so I have no more questions." He crosses his arms and leans back against the wall. A longbow crosses his back, along with other tools of conflict and strife.

A scrawny elf enters the chamber. He is wearing crimson robes and is carrying a tomb in his hand. His hair is straight, long, and black. He doesn't seem the most personable, but certainly not unapproachable. With a bow he address the group.

Hello fellow Pathfinders. I am Itham, and this is my first day on this new life. I hope my knowledge of magic and languages will help guide our way.

Aram Zey then explains the situation.

This... this is what they send us to do on our first day? This is an powerful artifact and I am trusted to use it! Itham smiles, This is already more magic than I have experienced in my time as an apprentice. I get a sense of urgency, but are we allowed to prepare for this snowy plane before heading in? Also, who are these Aspis?

Itham is done, just spending my money. I won't buy snow gear unless we are allowed to do some shopping after the briefing.

"It is important to note that the whole plane is not artic. In fact, the environment inside has gone a little...erratic. Part of our work here is to stabilize that," Aram answers Itham's first question.

"As far as the Apsis, you may think of them as the dark reflection of the Pathfinder Society. They are a group of ruffians, tomb robbers and greedy powerbrokers who are trying to use the secret, powerful things of this world to foster their own power."

"Worse, though we were supposed to have lone rights to the Hao Jin Tapestry, the Consortium has somehow found a backdoor in. They are no doubt plundering as much as they can before we can stop them."

"Actually, that reminds me. Should you find any Consortium agents with any authority or anyone else who seems to have information, it would be of great value if you can question them to find out exactly what the Apsis are doing. Any plans you can find for us will help us in foiling them."

He then hands each of you a small piece of paper with a single word on it and points to a spot in the bottom right hand corner of the tapestry.

"Make what preparations you need, but don't wait too long. When you're ready to go, read the word on the paper while touching this spot and you will appear where you need to be within the tapestry."

Ruby Phoenix Tournament Games I've Played (Session Tracker)

Aram Zey remains in the room, though pays little more attention to the Pathfinders he's sending into a magical tapestry to root out one of their most pernicious foes. Unless he is directly addressed, of course. Otherwise, he studies the tapestry, muttering to himself and making notes.

When the party has made their preparations and follows the instructions for entering the tapestry...

The difference between where they were and where they are is shocking. The vault holding the Hao Jin tapestry was a comfortable room temperature. The temperature where they are inside the tapestry is crisp and hovering right around the freezing point.

The Pathfinders stand inside an ancient temple, it's walls 30' high and covered in bas relief sculptures. The sculptures tell the tale of where the temple came from, featuring jungle animals and plants and Vudran gods and designs. And it is hard not to notice that the people in the sculptures are clearly Vanaras.

It is disconcerting to see such a temple slowly being covered in ice.

Where they appear, four columns stand vigil in this open-air courtyard, a wide doorway opening in the center of each wall. To the east, a huge banyan lies fallen across the wide bridge that once permitted access to the great gates of the temple. To the north and south stretches a ten-foot-wide walkway running along the temple’s exterior wall. A wide moat of black ice separates this walkway and the inner complex. To the south, a crude wooden ramp leads from the walkway to the ice’s surface ten feet below.

Two steep stone stairways lead up from the ice to doorways in symmetrical chambers flanking the main entrance on the other side of the moat.

As each of you looks behind you, you see a 2-foot-diameter sphere of pulsing blue light, though none of you see one behind any of the others who came with you. Stepping back through your own extraplanar eddy will return you back to the vault under Skyreach.

Note that the map is turned on it's side so East is Up. Please place yourselves anywhere in the room where I placed an X and decide how you're going to make your approach into the rest of the temple.

Fiata, I added your token to the map. Dana, I moved your token back. It requires a climb check to get over the tree that lays across the causeway.

As the Pathfinders examine their location, they see a few possible approaches to the central temple. The most obvious is the one that Dana is taking, simply walking across the bridge and climbing over the fallen banyan tree as it is fully six feet high even overturned as it is.

There is also an entrance to the north but the party would have to climb down the wall and cross the icy moat to reach it.

A similar entrance is to the south and they will still have to cross the ice. However, they won't have to climb down as a convenient, if crude ramp has been constructed.

The decision may be made for them, though. As Dana approaches the tree, a bolt comes hurtling at her from the south entrance.

Kal'ryon just manages to squeeze by the woman of immense size, and heads out and onto the ice. As he moves, he unhooks a long pole from his back and moves in such a way as to hopefully place a little cover between the archer and himself.

I am hoping that unless the archer moves, Kal'ryon might gain at least partial cover from the elevation change and wall. Double move (55ft total movement, counting double on ice) and drawing guisarme

Sorry for slowing us down! I read the posts but it was late and told myself I would post in the morning, but then I forgot to post in the morning.

Are these the Aspis people you told me about? They would just attack us outright? This is insane! Itham is concerned as he moves into a better position.

Botting Dana to keep things moving.

The heavily armored psychic makes her way onto the ice to get closer to the action.

An answering call is made from deeper inside the temple though no one else appears yet.

The Apsis Agent you can see finishes loading his crossbow and trains it on the nearest target...which happens to be Fiata.

A creature moving across the frozen moat must spend 2 squares of movement to enter an ice-covered square and the DC of all Acrobatics checks increases by +5.

He moves forward along the walkway quickly, his long legs covering the ground in chunks. Stopping and firing another arrow after he closes some distance. Right 'tween the eyes.

Feel free to read the 'Ulfen' speech spoilers for your own personal enjoyment. They are merely there for fun and how Waggi would act.

And the Apsis agent never gets a chance to fire the crossbow again, slumping against the wall he's partially hiding behind then falling to the ground with an arrow through the eye.

Fiata rounds the corner to find herself in a stuffy and hot room. This shrine has apparently been transformed into a guardhouse and barracks.
The smell of cooking food fills the air, and the poorly vented fire, burning in the shrine’s southwest corner, leaves a smoky haze in the room. Everywhere there are signs of a hurried collection of artifacts—the walls are covered in an elaborate relief sculpture, its surface marred with deep gouges where parts of its face were haphazardly carved from the larger whole, and a number of niches in the wall now lie empty, their icons and relics absent. The fire consumes a huge sheaf of palm-frond pages, upon which Vudran calligraphy may be discerned as the flames devour it.

A tall, heavily muscled, blond woman wielding a battle axe and bearing a shield comes rushing at Fiata as soon as she comes in sight. Her otherwise plain face twisted in a mask of rage.

Across the room, a slender, but equally tall man with slight horns and bright red skin follows, throwing a dagger at Fiata even as the woman swings her axe.

Seeing no other threats on his side of the frozen pond Waggi hops down on the ice and shuffles his way across, coming up next to Itham grinning "So have you yet to kill a man Elf? To see his blood melt the snow and darken the water? Besting a man on the field of battle and claiming his as your own is how legends are built!" I will be that legend to my people!

He hears the cries of battle in the room ahead and a crooked smile crosses his lips "Time to build the legend of Waggi my pointy eared friend, do not be afraid, death comes to us all!"

Just so I know for when I come into sight of these two, and for those that already are. The blonde woman seems to be maybe an Ulfen human and the red faced a tiefling? (not human at least) Fighting his kin changes Waggi's temperament some and of course fighting humans affects his favored enemy.

Correct. And just for reference (in case you didn't realize because he spoke your language) the guy you arrowed was Ulfen, too.

Useless for the moment, Fiata tosses the crossbow aside. With a high pitched note, her blade sings out of it's scabbard. With a lunge she stabs at her ax wielding assailant. The red skinned, horned man barely has time to turn and see Kal'Ryon before the Ganzi's savage claws cut him down and he collapses to the ground.

Fiata's attack proves more accurate than the raging woman's, though it seems fairly evident she would not have struck if the woman were not disregarding her own safety so much.
