GM Granta |
Blake mentioned not wanting to start his game for about a year, so his will definitely be the third to start. When do Hiyami and I plan to get underway?
Personally, I was thinking about starting game one after Outpost II, and then waiting several months for game two. That would hopefully give us and the players plenty of time to create characters, get into the flow of each AP, and adapt to bandwidth needs.
Thoughts?
GM Hiyami |
When do you think you'll have the bandwidth, GM Granta? o: I know I'll have a bit more time come May/June when the kids begin doing their SOL exams.
Also, hello GM Blake. c:
GM Granta |
Unless Hiyami really wants to go first, I will plan to start WftC when Outpost II ends. I imagine the second and third start dates won't get pinned down for awhile, and will probably include input from the players.
The next question is recruitment. Since the idea is to have the same players in all three APs, we need to make joint decisions in one way or another.
I have three ideas, but am certainly open to other methods of player selection:
GM Hiyami |
Otha asked me to remember and consider him as a potential player for CotCT, but I don't know how inclined he would be to playing in three APs. His campaign page has me thinking he's pretty active, but I haven't asked him how much bandwidth he has yet. As we're still in the organizational/detail sorting stage, I thought I'd see if either of you had thoughts on this.
GM Blake |
Either of those 3 methods is fine by me, Granta.
What sort of players are you looking for this time?
GM Granta |
Otha asked me to remember and consider him as a potential player for CotCT . . . . I thought I'd see if either of you had thoughts on this.
He played Gardol in my evergreen arc. I started at 10 tables and cut back after each scenario, until I was left with about a dozen players who got invitations to a long campaign--which ended up becoming WftC. Gardol made the first cut, but not the final. So I felt that he was above average, but not somebody that I wanted to play with for several years straight.
What sort of players are you looking for this time?
Superior role-playing and a willingness to learn, same as before. I would love to stick with the players I already selected, but Hiyami hasn't had a chance to vet those people yet.
If the plan goes at least half right, we will all be playing multiple games together for several years. "Good enough" just doesn't make the cut for that type of commitment. Ideally, I want to find three players that all three of us are actively excited about playing with.
GM Blake |
I played 2 Quests series and 1 Scenario with Otha that I know if. The experience was inconsistent throughout each. If memory serves, strong at the start and then waning.
My best picks are all generally cutting back on their PbP commitments at the moment or involved in a long term campaign with me.
GummyBear is definitely a solid choice. I was fine with both Melda and MindXing before, although my experience with them is limited.
GM Granta |
Gummy Bear is one of my favorites, though I am biased, since we also play together IRL.
Each of Melda's characters is clearly different from the others, and I would credit her as one of the better role-players on PbP. There are some language and time zone barriers with her, though.
MindXing is also relatively new to me, but like Blake, a lot of the player's I really wanted weren't available.
GM Hiyami |
I've been finding much the same. Most of my first picks are either heavily time-invested in another project or presently don't have the bandwidth. Maybe it's a time-of-year sort of thing?
I've taken a look at the campaign and I really like the communication and character creation considerations (try saying that three times fast!). I trust your judgment, GM Granta!
So far, it looks like we're leaning towards option three, if only because it seems to be the most easily completed. c:

Nope, it's pretty much a permanent thing. Good players are in demand, they get more invitations to play.

Then I will check to see whether Gummy Bear, Melda and MindXing are still interested and available. If we do end up with an empty seat, then we can do a recruitment.
GM Blake |
Oh, there's GM Lorenzo as a possibility.
I've had him in a couple scenarios now and played under him; he's pretty good. I haven't felt him out for interest or availability.
Trying to think who else where I wouldn't be stealing their focus from one of my own projects...
GM Blake |
That's a shame.
If any of the original three are no longer available, I'll try to wrack my brain harder.
GM Granta |
Still no response from Melda, and it didn't look like any of her characters are currently active.
So once again, I have three ideas to get us started:
I don't know how common it is for GMs to play a character in their own games--I've only seen one guy who did it, but it worked well and seemed to make it more fun for him.
GM Hiyami |
If we're operating with Gummy Bear, MindXing, and myself, we've three... GM Blake could potentially make it four? Or are we specifically looking for five players?
GM Hiyami |
Which means that we do have enough to get us started after Outpost II, but we're looking for a fifth player? I suppose I haven't asked yet -- are Gummy Bear and MindXing interested in playing all three campaigns?
GM Blake |
I'd rather find a 5th than run GM-PCs.
So, scrounging my brain for potentials based on quality:
GM Mjolbeard
Aerondor (I feel like he was part of the original and dropped out, but maybe that was my other long term project)
Eric Collins - France
...and I don't even know if these play PF or just SF:
Tyranius
GM Valen
I have more on my personal list, but, as I mentioned, that would be stealing from my own pool of players.
GM Hiyami |
I don't really know most of that group, but I remember enjoying playing with Aerondor and I have written back and forth with Eric Collins - France on several occasions. He has excellent reading suggestions. c:
What do you think, GM Granta? o:
GM Granta |
Aerondor was one of the originals and dropped out due to bandwidth concerns. It's been almost a year though, so we might get lucky.
I haven't seen Mjolbeard, Eric Collins or Valen play, so no opinion yet.
Tyranius is on my banned list, though.
I will reach out to Aerondor today, since we all like him. If he's not available, then how about a limited recruitment with Mjolbeard, Eric Collins and Valen as the second step?
GM Hiyami |
That works for me, too! c: I'm playing a Starfinder game with Eric Collins via Discord at the moment, so I've got easy access to him!
GM Hiyami |
Is she going to be joining us for all three as well, then? c:
GM Hiyami |
Dotted! I've got company over tonight, so I can't do much else, but at least I'll be able to read through it later on. c;
