Mokhasi Kpu'unde |
Mokhasi waits patiently as the beefier characters dispatch the ants. ”Indeed, let us move on, well done to everyone. There is no knowing if more are likely to come, and what we did probably antagonized the queen. Shall we look for exits and other secrets? Also, perhaps look for signs that the ants devoured someone - their remains may hold treasure. Lastly, keep watch for anything Thassalonian. This was not always an ant farm.” Mokhasi looks inscrutably pleased as he scans the area for magical signatures.

Seeing nothing else, Mokhasi follows the party to the next level.
Esrisi Derexhi |
Esrisi searches the room for anything valuable. "Just a moment everyone, let's make sure there isn't anything here first before we go down again."
Finding nothing of interest she will head downstairs with the group. [smaller]"How many more times are we going to descend? We have to be below the water level now, right? I hope it's not flooded down here."
Take 20+10=30 perception.
GM Dak |
Before Es follows the others out of the room she finds a secret door in the southern section of the wall with the dirt mounds, near the base of one of the mounds. It leads into a cramped earthen tunnel as opposed to the worked stone throughout the rest of this place.
Esrisi Derexhi |
Esrisi puts two fingers in her mouth and whistles loudly when she finds the door. Once everyone returns she opens it up and points into it.
Whispering, she tells the team "Look what I found, a hidden door leading into a tunnel. I think we should take this path before the stairs."
The aasimar stares down into the dark tunnel looking for trouble. Do I see anything?
Sapher Mornshire |
Sapher thanks Cars, the nasty burning in her shoulder joint gone, though she is pretty sure some ant has made it into her clothes. "Good find." she tells Ez, joining her to peer down the tunnel. "First properly sized tunnel we've found in this place." she smiles a bit.
Mokhasi Kpu'unde |
"It is good to be wary - we should always be mindful of possible secrets." Mokhasi nods, almost relieved that there was a secret door. He follows close behind everyone else, wielding his longspear.
GM Dak |
The group squeezes through the small passageway to eventually find themselves in an irregularly-shaped room that seems to have been chiseled recently out of the surrounding rock. There is another small tunnel that leads to the east.
Esrisi Derexhi |
Esrisi groans and grumbles in protest and regret about this stupid ass small tunnels as she squeezes her nearly six foot frame through them. You just HAD to suggest we come down here, didn't you? Couldn't keep your big, fat mouth shut and take the normal-sized corridor with the stairs, could you?
Sapher Mornshire |
"New Construction in an ancient tomb?" Sapher muses as she runs her hands across the stonework. "Why?"
She'll do a quick look around, especially along the walls.
perception: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 9 + 2 = 25 stoneworking
Esrisi Derexhi |
When Sapher explains about the smaller creatures working here, Esrisi adds "It could be the little blue thing I saw run down the stairs earlier. I lost it back in the ant room, so it easily could have slipped through the hidden door into this place. Be on your guard against small blue things."
Letting Sapher take the lead in the tunnels, she works her way behind her and tries to keep the dirt off her as much as possible.
Drask Umbra |
Esrisi groans and grumbles in protest and regret about this stupid ass small tunnels as she squeezes her nearly six foot frame through them.
"Oh shut up." Drask says as he snarls, having to take off chunks of the stone with his frame in order to fit through.
Veltariel Mendrasti |
Veltariel snickers at the sharp retort Drask gave Esrisi. Even though the tunnel was small, Veltariel bent and swayed nimbly through the narrow corridor easily enough.
Caroliss Kaddren |
Caroliss moves gingerly, trying very hard not to get her clothes dirty. And generally failing. "That's strange--how do you build a tunnel that leads from a room full of giant ants?"
She follows along, trying to light the way ahead as much as possible.
GM Dak |
Heading into the next tunnel you find it ends in what appears to be the other side of a secret door. Opening it up this roughly octagonal room is shrouded has thick sheets of tangled webbing on its upper walls and into the ceiling above. There is a collapsed stairway to the north and an open stairway to the south.
Am I correct that Sapher was leading the way? Technically she is really the only one that can see the above until more get through the tunnel.
Esrisi Derexhi |
Esrisi grimaces at Drask's comment but doesn't offer a verbal response. As she looks down she doesn't see a particularly low beam and she bashes the top of her head on it. She screams loudly "SARENRAE'S BURNING BUSH!" as she winces and grabs the top of her throbbing head.
Caroliss Kaddren |
"Ouch!" says Caroliss sympathetically. "I guess for once it's good to be short." She eagerly follows the party, hoping to move into the open space that she was seeing up ahead.
Mokhasi Kpu'unde |
Mokhasi, also being extremely tall, has to duck, continuously
He follows silently, watching the others, but seems to be getting physically tired of stooping down constantly. He keeps his longspear at his side, doing his best to avoid poking anyone. Kiir floats behind him silently.
”Sapher - do you know who could have built a tunnel like this?”
Sapher Mornshire |
"Not dwarves" Sapher responses since that is all she knows.
Honestly what knowledge check would that be? Engineering or local maybe?
Sapher, in the lead since she is not cursed with giantism, tells the others "A landing for more stairs, it looks like at least. Crumbled mess up but open to go down. And spider webs, the like no wee ones could produce."
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
if she sees nothing about to jump from the above or below, she'll step out in the room so the others can get un-scrunched.
Esrisi Derexhi |
Frustrated from crawling through a tunnel half her size and the huge flintstone lump on her head, she blurts out loudly "I already said who built it Mokhasi, it was the blue people! Didn't you guys here me?
I wasn't talking to myself, Was I? Anyway, I'm telling you I saw a tiny blue guy! He looked just like a master tunnel builder type too!"
Sapher Mornshire |
"What does a master builder type look like?" Sapher asks with genuine curiosity as she scans the stairwells from eight legged bad things.
Esrisi Derexhi |
Esrisi thinks about the blue builder she saw earlier. "Uhm. Short. Squat. Big head. Puffy face."
She trails off as she thinks more about the creature "Oh! Blue skin too."
Sapher Mornshire |
Sapher turns with a raised eyebrow. "Did you just describe me? Well, minus the blue part?"
Veltariel Mendrasti |
”Not how I’d describe a dwarf, but to each their own...” she says before adding quietly to Sapher ”nor would I classify these alterations as anything near dwarves quality...”

Sapher Mornshire |
Sapher yells in surprise, bringing up her shield just in time to deflect a massive spider mouth. "This is BIG. I could use some help.... please." Sapher tries to hammer one of its legs as she moves to the side, letting the others out to help her.

Mokhasi Kpu'unde |
Earlier:
Mokhasi says, in seriousness, "Esrisi, it is possible that the creature built the tunnel true. But perhaps more reliable than supposition is the keen eye of our dwarven friend. Many dwarves have a sense of how stone is cut - so much that the particular way can be recognized. That is what I prefer to rely upon, before speculating." He pauses for a moment, thinking.
"Though speculation and hunches are good in a pinch, true!" Mokhasi shrugs.
Now:
Mokhasi looks suprised when the spider drops. "More spiders!?" His face holds an expression of being flabbergasted. "These Thassalonians were terrible at warding..."

"Drask!" Sapher yells, seeing her comrade bitten and then... poof. Just for moment she panics, but realizes she's being an idiot when she sees him right next to it. She grumbles something about magic and causing a poor dwarf to have a heart attack.

Caroliss Kaddren |
"Another spider!" says Caroliss far too late. She takes a step back, and favors Drask with some more of Calistria's luck.
For a second, she considers whether to create an illusory Drask that looked like his brother spirit. But then decides that might offend the half-orc. And it was clearly a bad idea to offend the big guy.
Esrisi Derexhi |
Esrisi knows that she is not in a good position to attack and needs to get closer, but ... It's a huge spider!!!
Hesitating, she inhales sharply before dashing forward while holding her breath. As she nears the spider she leaps forward into a tumble and tries to roll past it before it can strike her. Coming to her feet on the opposite side of Drask, she throws her fist upwards into its hind quarters. "Yyyyaaaa!" she groans as she sinks her fist into its body.

Caroliss Kaddren |
"Yeesh, that spider is so huge! Er . . . would someone mind pushing it a little farther away from the doorway?" Caroliss is clearly hesitant to walk through with the creature still so close.
Esrisi Derexhi |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Just because it's down doesn't mean Ez pulls her punch. She still throws her weight behind it and make sure it's not getting back up.
After it falls down, she nudges it with her foot to make sure it isn't moving. "Ok. I think we got it." she says, nodding with satisfaction. "Good work everyone."
She looks around for pieces of small blue creatures. "Maybe it ate the saphire-colored miniature ugly really fragile creatures. I think that name is too long though. Hmmm..."
She scratches her temple while she tries to name them. "Maybe I'll just call them S.M.U.R.F.'s for short from now on."
Mokhasi Kpu'unde |
Bahaha
”A good name, their sworn enemy being gargantuan animated redolent grotesque arbitrary murderous energetic lugubrious spiders, I would think. Logically, that’s the only thing that makes sense. Be wary, I suspect there may be more of them.” Mokhasi appears to be serious as he grips his spear, warily probing the ceiling webs.

Sapher Mornshire |
"There are things over that way" Sapher nods in the direction of the critters, "Just on the edge of my vision."
Not knowing how good Ez's 'better nightvision than the average human or elf for that matter' is, she'll describe them to see if they are what she saw before. "And no I don't know if he is blue. The dwarven ability to see in the dark does not allow us see color at the same time."

Esrisi whispers excitedly "I bet its the SMURF!" as she moves up alongside of Sapher.
As bumps her head again, she looks down at Sapher and remarks "I've never been so envious of your height as I am right now."
Veltariel Mendrasti |
Veltariel leans in to Mokhasi and whispers ”શું તમે તેમનો માર્ગ અજમાવવા અને વાત કરવા માંગો છો? અથવા આપણે તેમના પર પહેલ કરવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરવો જોઈએ?”
Elven: ”Do you want to try and talk our way through them? Or should we try and take the initiative on them?”
