Glad to be here
Sir Durant Aumarideth |
Looking forward to playing with you all!
I'm especially interested in seeing two not-quite-paladins working together. Seems like it'll be an interesting group for a longer term game!
Eka |
Hooray! I'm excited about this series of games.
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how these two paladins interact, especially since Eka doesn't worry about the code of conduct stuff so much.
Qiroyo Darudo |
Looking to start the complete Devil We Know Series (Tier 1-7) on March 1st and continuing until we are finished (probably 4-5 months).
that's some big expactation. my pbp experience is more like that 1 level up takes 6 months.
GM Erich |
It is pretty aggressive but if I can keep up the daily posts, we should hit the mark. The scenarios are pretty fast paced. We'll take the time we need to do it all justice.
GM Erich |
Everyone is accounted for (with an APL of 1.7 so subtier 1-2), so let's begin. Please introduce yourself in the gameplay and we will take it from there.
Good luck everyone!

So, this is the first time I've played a character with an animal companion, much less a mount. I think I've gotten the animal stats straightened out though I'm not sure:
1) If the wolf comes with the standard feat Skill Focus (Perception) in addition to the bonus feats given an animal companion
2) How much the riding gear weighs for a medium creature
3) How to calculate encumbrance and speed. Pick a character weight and add it to all the equipment weight? Halve speed if medium encumbrance?
4) Whether a wolf needs an exotic saddle
GM Erich |
@Cyclic... I will defer to any other players familiar with animal companions as I have never actually done one for PFS. It looks like most of the answers can be found here and here. A gear blog post was published a year or so ago here
For my two cents, they would be able to use a regular saddle like a dog and keep the initial skill focus feat. And you can calculate saddle and rider weight (plus equipment) with the encumbrance rules.
Hope that helps.
GM Erich |
@Altorin, the basic hydrokinesis (which functions as prestidigitation) can't be used to dry out the algae. Prestidigitation rules out drying (warming up) living things. Also, it would take a great deal of time to clear out a walkable section of the dock.
Cyclic |
I think I got what I need. The speed goes from 50 to 35 under medium encumbrance, a quadruped gets 1.5 times as much carrying capacity given strength. So I know the speed and encumbrance levels now.
Next level I'll have to deal with armor. Ugh.
Eka |
@GM Erich: I missed this earlier, but I believe the orange rat would have provoked an attack of opportunity from Eka when it moved into the square next to her, as her weapon has a 10' reach. We can say for the narrative's sake that she declined to make that AOO and try to remember it in the future.
GM Erich |
@Eka I believe the orange rat moved there before you acted in the first round so you would be flat footed and unable to make an attack of opportunity (without combat reflexes at least). But it is good to note that you have a reach weapon.
Eka |
Fair enough. :)
Eka |
@GM Erich: How soon is sunset? Our decision about what to do next will have to take that into account.
Sir Durant Aumarideth |
Just bringing some of the discussion on Eka's condition into the Discussion thread.
I definitely want to acknowledge the fact that the GM mentioned we are getting closer to the end of this particular scenario, but I feel like it would be pretty crappy for Eka to have to deal with blindness for the remainder of her first mission. Also, she's another one of our frontliners, and while I don't feel particularly at risk of our group going down in this scenario, it would definitely be a help to have another warrior fighting at her best.
All that to say, I'd like to contribute to getting Eka's blindness removed. I'm ready to contribute at least 50gp to the cause. Who wants to step up to help cover the rest?
Qiroyo Darudo |
I'd happily chip in. This is my second adventure, I'm low on PP though.
Cyclic |
No problem here. That's peanuts.
Eka |
Thank you so much for your generosity!
Eka |
Eka will insist on contributing her 16 gold to remove her blindness because she doesn't want to be any more of a burden on their generosity than she already is.
GM Erich |
Since it is a bit of an expense at low levels to remove Eka's blindness, just want to make sure I have it right.
Sir Durant = 44gp
Eka = 16 gp
Cyclic = 30gp
Qiroyo = 30gp
Altorin = 30gp
Let me know if there are adjustments
Cyclic |
Me too.
GM Erich |
As we near the end of this scenario, a few things...
Let me know if you are wanting to play slow or normal track.
Also, if you will level up let me know so I can see if the subtier may change.
Feel free to roll your dayjobs if you have them.
Please PM me an email that I can send your chronicle too.
We will start the next scenario in the series at this same location this weekend. Please let me know if something will prevent you from joining in. Also, for those sticking around, I have something special planned (did someone say boons?), stay tuned.
Sir Durant Aumarideth |
Woohoo! We're killing it! As for your questions...
I'll be playing normal track
I won't level up until after the next scenario
Dayjob (Caravan vanity - Diplomacy): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Yay boons!
Qiroyo Darudo |
Normal track as well. I'm quite new to PFS, how will I know when I level up? Won't be this time for sure.
Dayjob Profession Librarian: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Sir Durant Aumarideth |
You level up every 3 XP (usually every 3 scenarios your character completes unless you do slow track). So, for example, Sir Durant is currently level 2 and will have 5 XP after this scenario. Once he completes his next scenario and has 6 XP, he will advance to level 3.

So, I have something for everyone for sticking together for the four scenarios...BOONS!
I have a list of campaign boons that I don't see myself using, so I wanted to offer them up. Here's how it will work. After each scenario, I will roll to see who gets their choice from the set I am offering. If you do win, you won't be eligible for the remaining scenarios. But -- at the end of all four-- the remaining characters will each get a boon for sure. So everyone will get one boon for playing all the scenarios.
Sapphire Guardian
Share the Wealth
Scholar of the Sages/Model Pathfinder
Fighting Off Corruption(Ghoul)
Martial Tradition
Soothsayer
Psychic Awakening
You can check the actual wording of the boons at this place Much Credit to Mr. Eshleman for compiling that
So here are the boon rolls in alphabetical order for Part 1 (high wins)
Altorin Init: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Belmiir Init: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Cyclic Init: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Eka Init: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Qiroyo Init: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Sir Durant Init: 1d20 ⇒ 6
So Cyclic wins Round 1 -- let me know which one you would like...
Cyclic |
The chronicle sheet is written up for a level 2 character and Cyclic is 3rd level. Barely, but 3rd nevertheless.
I guess I'll take Share the Wealth.
GM Erich |
I think I got it right. The game was played at Tier 1-2 so you get out of tier gold. (538+1324)/2=931
The early scenarios (especially the 1-7s) didn't have a place for out of tier calculations, so it does look sketchy.
I'll email the boon tomorrow.
Cyclic |
I see. I just saw the tier one box outlined and did not look in the income box. Sounds good.
Eka |
Congrats, Cyclic!
Qiroyo Darudo |
What can I buy without spending prestige?
Cyclic |
Anything on one of your chronicle sheets, or anything in one of the source books you own that costs less than what your fame entitles you to. There is a chart in the 'Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play' that you may use to find out how much you can spend on an item but here is the first half...
Minimum Fame Required/Maximum Item Cost
Under 5/0 gp
5/500 gp
9/1,500 gp
13/3,000 gp
18/5,250 gp
22/8,000 gp
27/11,750 gp
also the guide explains that there are certain items you can always get such as mundane things, masterwork items and a few odds and ends (I think a mithril chain shirt is allowed, right?). One of the implications of that chart is that a +2 weapon will not be possible until you have 27 fame (about 6th level) or get one on a chronicle sheet.
Qiroyo Darudo |
@Cyclic: Casting a spell from a wand is always a standard action, even if the spell is usually cast faster
Cyclic |
*ack*
OK, I'm turning that sucker back in. Pretend I never bought it! This was the first time I tried.
Sir Durant Aumarideth |
I'll be in meetings all day today, so won't be able to post at all. Please bot me as necessary.
