I wasn't sure I'd be well enough to travel, indeed I delayed the flight by a few days, but I will be heading to Seattle in the morning to help out at Emerald City Comic Con. I have a business meeting Monday and return flight Tuesday afternoon/evening.
I should be able to keep posting throughout as long as I have Internet access (which I expect to). It would still be comforting to have a backup GM just keep an eye out in case something happens and I am delayed for some reason.
Is anyone available?

While I'm not going to announce it at your tables until it becomes relevant at the transition to "Heart of the Blight", we've reached the milestone for Unaware Guardians already. Well done, folks!
We're only one away from Helpful Spirits, too, so if you haven't done Grove of Faces yet consider nudging your table there.

Posted our first announced condition, Helpful Spirits. Please double-check that I posted in your table.
GM Dennis |
Please post Aid Token passes in the recruitment tab, following the format we've been using so far. It helps everyone keep track of where they are if we follow the same format every time.
GM Blake |
Thanks, Worg. Which token number was it? Any boosts on it?
I gave him #3 with the Allied Offensive boosted.

Test of Speed: Cheating
I do not recall and cannot find any reference to the consequences of flying or teleporting, which Grimpfkin explicitly forbade. I have a group that seems likely to cheat if they think they can get away with it.
Am I missing the consequences somewhere?
GM Blazej |
I don't see any consequences for cheating for any time I've run this, but Grimpfkin is present at each leg of the race and can see how the players overcome the challenge. I think that if the PC cheats the test in a segment (and doesn't make an appropriate showing of Bluff, Performance, or so on) that player would fail that segment.
GM Bret |
Wouldn’t it be better to have Grimpfkin call out the cheater and count that as a failure on the task just for them?
Failure by one PC doesn’t cause a complete failure for the team. It does reduce the odds of them getting the success though.
GM Blake |
Grimpfkin is present at each leg of the race and can see how the players overcome the challenge.
I didn't play that up much at my Subtier 1-2 table at GenCon, but I am making a point of describing him there in an effort to not need to adjudicate it.
I think a personal failure for the first catch is a reasonable penalty. Even if you played it up as Grimpfkin saying, "Go do it again without cheating," the consequence is to 'slow' the team.
Thanks!
Gum B the chewy |
I would also say that if it is blatant and they receive warning, proceed to Jinxing a player or the whole team as if they had attacked Grimpfkin as well.
Considering my players went from considering throwing a bomb before meeting Grimpfkin to giving him a kiss or compliments to pass the final test, I think I did well getting across the zaniness of a high level fey.

I wanted to check in again about the aid tokens. My table isn't in a real need of them but a lot of them have been slowing down for a while and none seem to have been passed since Monday at best.
GM Hawthwile |
Perhaps a lot of GMs are in the Test of Speed - there's not a lot of opportunities to use the token there. I know that's why my table hasn't used theirs yet.
GM Bret |
If they aren’t using it, might as well Boost it and pass it on!
The more they move, the better.
GM Worg |
My table doesn't need our token, so I am getting them to boost it then move it along.
GM Bret |
My table is being pounded in the test of strength and probably would like an Aid Token for the healing.
One Hero's Defiance plus lay on hand along with a Bear mauling the enemy took care of the problem. They are now out of combat and have plenty of time to heal themselves.
GM Dennis |
Hey folks, just a reminder that we have plenty of backups that are happy to help you. If you're not feeling well, or have a busy day of meetings, or whatever, don't be afraid to ask for coverage, even if it's just for an afternoon. One of our intrepid backups can step in and keep your game moving until you're back.

Call for backup
I came down hard today with a nasty bug. When I posted in my discussion thread this morning I thought I'd have a game post up before lunch.
They are just about to start the encounter to rescue survivors - "Pathfinders Grave" - and will be facing two spitting garden oozes.
The map is up (though one player just moved themselves into water because I hadn't provided a description yet) and the ooze tokens are under cover on slide 8.

Passing aid token to: Lorenzo
Current Boost: None
Please pass these in the Recruitment thread, so they stay in one place.

Any backups able to jump in?
GM Dennis |
Hey folks, we have way more than enough successes, so I'm going to move us on right on time, rather than waiting for encounters to finish. Please prepare to move to the Heart of the Blight encounter quickly, once I've posted the transition.

I'm having a hard time tracking which tables currently have aid tokens (for when I'm passing a token from my table to another). I guess it stressed me out enough that I blacked out - and when I came back to my senses there was a spreadsheet on my computer. Do we want to put it with the other handy links in the campaign header?
GM Silbeg |
Sorry, been a bit busy this weekend, and haven't been paying attention. Does GM Numbat still need a backup?
GM Dennis |
FYI all, I'll be on vacation all this coming week. I should have internet access, but may be a bit slower to respond to posts than usual. Feel free to email me if you need something more urgently.
GM Blazej |
On the questioned Aid Tokens. I passed Aid Token #1 to Our Mysterious Benefactor. I think it is still there unless it snuck away.
For Aid Token #4 I believe it is on Greenclaw's table.
GM kuey |
One of my players has decided to smite evil on the seed. Don't think it is stated in the scenario what alignment the seedpod is, but seeing how it would radiate negative energy when destroyed, I am going to take it that it is evil, albeit an evil object?
GM Batpony |
The flower periodically creates seedpods that its host of evil witch and druid attendants distribute throughout the Fangwood and beyond.
I would take it as evil based on the text above.
GM Silbeg |
The corpse lotus is N, so I would assume, myself, that the seed pods are as well. Plants don't have the capability of not being Neutral, I would think.
This is only my opinion, however. And, what GM Auke said above also matters.
The seed pods only do their negative energy burst when destroyed, in any case, so it may be argued that this is a side effect, not something innate to them?
Dunno...
GM Worg |
So my table made quick work of the plant and guardians.
Want us to do the encounter again or sit down for now and wait?
GM Bret |
Development: Once the PCs have defeated their enemies and destroyed a seedpod (lower subtiers) or the heart of the blight (Subtier 10–11), they can see the battle continuing to rage across the swamp. If there's plenty of time left, you can begin another encounter with the same monsters but without the seedpod as reinforcements appear from one side of the map. In Subtier 10–11, you may use the corpse lotus in this follow-up encounter, or you may include a pair of goliath spiders (see page 66).
Looks like more come in from the area marked 2. It is unclear to me if this second battle can generate a success or not,
GM Bret |
My table used the tree portal to create a path closer to the seedpod around the log.
GM kuey |
My tier 1-2 table looks like might need an aid token, preferably with burst of healing boost. Only the wizard is L2, everyone else is L1. One is down to 2hp, one down to 6hp, and one down to 1hp if he fails his saving throw. And one is entranced and helpless. I've never TPK'ed a table and don't really want to start. :P
GM Blake |
Yes, musk creepers can be tough! It nearly took down my 1-2 table at GenCon in C.
GM Blake |
My group will probably be using theirs soon, so I'll move it once they do. ...and they'll probably need another right after that (but not yet).
I think they underestimated the huge flower. They poured energy into destroying Mother Bloodleaf--she lasted all of her opening Cloudkill and 1 hex--before being impaled and tossed around like a rag doll by a woolly rhinoceros.
Now the druid must decide between leaving the brawler to fight 3 (wounded) shambling mounds on her own to go rescue the three grabbed/swallowed companions or leave them to their own abilities in order to help the brawler.
