Ischell
|
Ischell allows the others to continue to talk with the creature, but offers little in the way of additional commentary. "Let the others deal with the Fey. They have caused me enough trouble in my life already..."
Slipping the cold iron kama back in his belt, he feels the slightest of uncomfortable shocks as the metal touches his hand. "I'll never get used to touching this thing..."
Ischell
|
Too late to edit...
"So, are one of you dudes going to tell me what the heck I dropped into?", the tall and handsome man looks around and asks the assembled group. After a brief moment of pause, he adds "The name is Ischell. Or Sir Ischell de Ivocus, noble house of Taldor, if you're feeling formal. Aram threw me through the portal and the next thing I know... SPLASH... Not the kind of awakening I was thinking of when I heard about the tapestry, man. Gnarly? Sure! But only when you're expecting it, ya know?"
Antonella Schiavo
|
“I prefer the term ‘dudette’, brother. However, I am prepared to ‘fill you in.’ ”
With her judogi and long braid hanging limply, Antonella bows and presents her dripping right palm in imitation of the holy symbol of Irori. “Antonella Schiavo at your service. Iroran, Pathfinder and Silver Crusader.”
“We have been charged by the Master of Spells with conducting a trade mission with the Ironwhip Clan. I can expand on the nature of our assignment once we are closer to the proposed venue.” The monk raises an eyebrow and glances in the Fossegrim’s direction.
“I assume you are no worse for your ordeal, Ischell? Indeed, the Iro-shu expounds on the benefits of hardship to one’s resolve.”
Kelumur
|
I think Kelumur played with Ischell before.. but I could be mistaken. Might have been the GM at the table. lol
Kelumur does a little scowl/growl towards the Fey, still unsure what to think, but continues to address him nonetheless in hopes to learn more, "This Chergin Ironwhip, what do you know of his people, their ambitions, affiliation with Aspis?"
Ischell
|
Ischell has played with Brayne (Silent Tide). Edmund, my other choice for this game played with Red and was at your table for the Devil we Know series. I don't think he has played with Kelmur though (but I have been wrong before)
Ischell bows to Antonella, his somewhat lackadaisical form shifting into a disciplined stance. His hand mimics hers, and he responds. "Trials are just one means the Master uses to draw us towards enlightenment"
And just like that, his posture relaxes and the jovial smile returns. "You have a familiar face, perhaps we have crossed paths at the Irorium before"
Flyndyngylyn

Once down from the tree, Flyn retrieves his dagger from the draugr's corpse before joining the others and talking further with the fossegrim...
Upon seeing and hearing the newcomer, Flyn arches an eyebrow. "Ischell, is it? Greetings, I'm Flyn. Zey sent you? I'm sure he's sent you to express the confidence he has in us...in particular, me. Any way, welcome to our party...we can explain more once we've finished our discussion with this enchanting creature..."
He looks around trying to account for everyone, making sure no one is down. "Hey, where's Martha?"
Flyn then turns his attention back to the fossegrim. "And what else can you tell us about this Chergin Ironwhip? What exactly do you mean when you say he has power over stone?"
Lynn Kuro
|
Once lowered onto the ground Lynn gives a firm tug at her rope and re-coils it before approaching and conversing with the Fey.
"So they've gotten a different leader... makes sense given how long they've been here. Even dwarves age. Despite you attempting to drown us would you mind sharing your name? Also if you are truly generous to friends could you help us across."
after they are assisted across
"I'm glad to see that even the more unruly fae-kin are true to their word." She gives a subtle bow of the head, though keeping gaze with the Fossegrim. "I'm afraid I'd be no use in identifying what these objects do... despite being a practitioner of the arcane arts.. i've no real talent in discerning magical effects."
She then gave a weary smile towards the being, "Business before pleasure i'm afraid."
Ischell
|
"Dark blue hair? Badly wounded?" Ischell turns towards Flyn. "If she's who I am expecting, the dudette staggered right out of the tapestry before Zey sent me through. Seemed like she would make it at least, but she was bailing at the very last, man. The very last"
Zaarah Katsu
|
Zaarah seems truly amused by this group.
She looks at the fey and bows. ”Thank you for the opportunity to stay with you but you cannot really believe that at some point I won’t succumb to the urge of killing you. Your know?!?“ she says in sylvan and tries to have an innocent smile although it looks super strange instead.
”Just one question fey. What reputation do the pathfinders have here?? Seems skewed to b honest!“
Antonella Schiavo
|
“Dark blue hair? Badly wounded ..? She was bailing at the very last, man. The very last”
“That description fits Martha. I am pleased to hear she is no longer in danger.”
"You have a familiar face, perhaps we have crossed paths at the Irorium before"
“Entirely possible. I train there regularly when I’m home.”
Antonella speaks in a neutral tone, so it’s difficult to tell whether she’s just being polite.
Then she makes a sharp head movement like something has pricked her memory. “High Priestess Ysia Ironpalm speaks of a noble brother with a legendary appetite … I had assumed for doing good works.”
“Perhaps she was referring to you, Ischell?”
Zaarah Katsu
|
Zaarah is somehow not amused when she hears that Martha left.
”I hope that this was an emergency and that she did not leave the battle in our moment of need for something trivial! I could understand if she forgot her cookies in her oven and feared that they would burn ... anything else would be completely unacceptable!!“ she says in contemplation.
”Ischell, you on the other hand ... Jump into the heat of battle without planning and thinking! You can be sure that my goddess is surely very proud of you!“ she says and claps her hands.

"My name is Brahlim, friends. I've never met Ironwhip myself, but occasionally one of the sacrifices he makes to me survives long enough to tell me how old Chergin is made of stone, or hurls rocks like a giant. As for 'Apsis', I've never heard that name before.
My dear, I think you would make a good fossegrim" Brahlim turns to Zaarah as she threatens him. "Det er et klart hint av fey i du er ikke der?"
Brahlim smiles, an enchanting smile displaying teeth like river pearls. "People who are well acquainted with the Pathfinder Society’s acts have spread the word of the danger of attempting to negotiate with you."
Brahlim helps you cross the pool.
.
.
.
.
Barely half an hour from Brahlim's pool, two pairs of enigmatic, smiling stone faces are carved into the face of the mountain. These faces flank a precariously tall, ten-foot-wide stone staircase that leads to a flat plateau 60 feet overhead.
Here you have a choice as to how you climb the stair. If you go slowly no skill checks are needed. If you want to climb faster some moderately difficult climb checks are needed, and you might make progress at different speeds. Or you could use magic, of course.
Flyndyngylyn

Unless one of us has magical abilities, Flyn will go slowly...

Zaarah just smiles at the fey but doesn’t say more.
She turns to her companions.
”We might want to be careful. The Aspis might have ... Well they might have told the truth which is scary enough that they could also have told many lies about our goals!“
Later...
”I agree master Flyn. I am not a climber anyway!“
Antonella Schiavo
|
"Zaarah, can you identify the magical properties of the items the Fossegrim presented us?"
“If not, no matter. Again, I am reluctant to try to activate the wand blindly in the event it impedes us while we stand in Clan Ironwhip’s shadow.”
Once the matter is resolved, Antonella nods in agreement with Flyn and accompanies the archer at the head of the party.

Lynn Kuro

After the travel from Brahlim's territory towards the steep towering stairs, the woman shivered a bit in her drenched outfit. Having reloaded her weapons with standard shots once again.
"Achoo! Ugh.. could we have stopped to rest and dry our clothes at least? It's all good and well to know we've got a wand of healing, which i could utilize on you all, but i very much doubt it will cure hypothermia or the common cold... a shame we haven't the spells for that yet."
Glancing up at the giant stone faces she pondered between bone-rattling cold "Why do i have a bad feeling about this... we should all stick together. I'll take that wand if no one else wants it.. i'm afraid i won't be the best fighter among us. Much more suited to a supporting role."
I don't know if we're actually on an In-game time-limit but if we could stop and rest it would be beneficial to get back everyone's abilities, heal up, and maybe shake off those Negative levels from the drauger if anyone has any left.
Ischell
|
Ischell smiles and laughs to himself. "I would be surprised if Ironpalm referred to me as noble. Many other words, yes.. but noble..." He chuckles again.
"Let's just say that we don't always see eye to eye, Priestess Ysia and I. Not bad feelings, mind you. Just a different outlook on life, ya know? But each must find their own path to the enlightenment of the master"... "Man"
As the party progresses forward, Ischell continues talk to each of the other members. Introducing himself in turn. He is surprisingly casual for a paladin of Irori, his temperament taking some time to get used to. If asked:
"Not everything needs to be serious, Man. If you can't find some momentary contentment where you are, there aint no way you are gonna make it to the end in one piece- less you are Irori yourself, ya know?"
Reaching the stairs, Ischell nods in agreement with Flyn's observations. As Lynn speaks, he also nods. [/b]"I am fine to continue on, though it appears I missed the harshest of the combat. Is this mission you were sent on, is it pressed for completion?"[/b]
Vote: slowly up the steps. Ischell has no reason to rest, nor any opposition to it, if the party determines it best

I would also rather pause at some point. Zaarah uses her two pearls of power to retrieve her two shocking grasp spells.
Kelumur

Kelumur also has no reason to rest but will not reject the idea of it, also agree on talking it slow up the stairs if we're not confident of our abilities, which Kelumur isn't at the moment.
"Caution would be wise at this time, we do not want to rush and find ourselves in a dire situation. If we need to rest, then take the rest." Kelumur chimes in.

“Oh Antonella! What I wouldn’t do for you is rather the question!”
“You honor me, sister.” *bow*
Antonella looks up the steep staircase, pinching the wet sleeve of her martial artist’s outfit, as if realizing its condition for the first time. “Sister Lynn, you speak wisely. The confrontation with the gray dwarves can wait until we are at our best.”
“Your bardic performance and healing prowess are an asset to this group. I am glad you chose to join us.” *another bow*
“Let's just say that we don't always see eye to eye, Priestess Ysia and I. Not bad feelings, mind you. Just a different outlook on life, ya know?”
“Yes brother, I do. When I first arrived in Absalom, I felt the High Priestess was testing me more harsh…”
Antonella cuts herself off abruptly, bowing deeply to the party and remaining bowed. “Forgive me, brothers and sisters. My words reveal just how far up the Mountain I have yet to climb.”
“Ischell, I look forward to hangin' with you on the Mountain, brah.”
Ischell
|
"Relax, Antonella. You can let your hair down here- this aint the temple in Absalom. Extending grace to others, and ourselves, is important. Perfection is to be always strived for, yet rarely obtained. It is not failure... simply humanity."
"I'll take watch, if you dudes (and dudettes) want to catch some shut-eye."
Ischell settles into a spot where he has a good view of the surrounding area, and begins to go through his meditative forms.

Thankful that some of the others agree with her she assists in making camp. "A fire to dry our clothes and gear... Makeshift tent... and a watch schedule, good." Lynn hastily swaps to her colorful dress while she waits for her adventuring gear dries and warms by the fire, taking some time to dry off her new chainshirt so it didn't rust. Got a bite to eat and then packed her things away until the next day curling deep into her sleeping bag for the night's rest.
Hoping there aren't any planned encounters here so just a quick sloop through the downtime for lynn, and she's not sure if magical metal rusts or not but still. Afterwards when they are faced with the mountainous climb once again.
Back in her adventuring attire, the bard struts proudly, "Let us venture forth and tend to those that hold the sky-key shard. And hope they are still willing to barter and not attempt to make slaves of us."
I'm okay with climbing at the same slow pace as everyone else for the time being, doesn't look like we'll be in a super big hurry for the moment.
| GM supervillan |
I believe you can use Prestidigitation to dry clothes Lynn.
You spend a night under the unfamiliar stars of Hao Jin's Tapestry.
The next morning you begin an arduous climb up the giant stairway, going at a slow pace so that those less used to such activity can be helped by the more athletic members of the group.
You reach a plateau at around 60 feet up.
Jagged and barbed iron sculptures of various sizes cover the floor of this large stone plateau. A pair of wide stone stairs ascends to a balcony overhead. Shattered pieces of intricately painted pottery and shreds of fine silk are piled along the walls. Four pillars divide the space, holding aloft stone arches covered with pictograms. A wide pair of iron doors bears a ruby-studded engraving of an inferno and a hefty iron lock.

Since Flyn is just finishing a climb (as are all of you) when initiative is rolled, he has to draw his bow, so no full attack. I'm fine with using adamantine arrows straight away though. One arrow fired (which hits).
Zaarah, you cannot parry the construct's attack. Opportune Parry and Riposte must be declared before you see the result of an opponent's attack roll, so you need to use it as you were doing in the previous encounter at the waterfall.
Lynn, not sure what you mean by 'edges' of the sculptures. Can you show me on the map the route you plan to take, and I'll tell you how much movement that would be?

Thanks GM, I completely understand your reasoning. At the same time in a normal game I would have announced the parry before the attack roll but in PbP I wasn’t expecting a melee attack as the opponents had ranged weapons and thus I did not roll a parry in advance.

| GM supervillan |
No worries folks.
Zaarah, the construct had not yet animated at the end of your turn, so with no melee threat apparent naturally you wouldn't expect a melee attack. However, pbp being what it is, I've rolled an attack in the open, and so cannot really allow the parry attempt. To be on the safe side, it's best that you roll a spoilered parry attempt on every combat round, which I can apply to the first melee attack against you unless you give alternative tactics.
Flyn, the map doesn't give an accurate reflection of the description of the 'stairs' in the scenario text, which is that they are effectively a sheer climb. However, since you see the plateau from the starting position on the map, I'm happy to say that you're able to use your hands for fighting now, just not before initiative is rolled.

Cold Iron Dagger, flank: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 12 + 2 = 31P/S+Sneak: 1d4 + 6 + 4d6 ⇒ (2) + 6 + (2, 6, 3, 2) = 21

Forgot to add: swift action and 1 arcane pool point to make black blade +2 into a flaming and keen weapon.

Ishell calls upon his holy healing powers as he closes with the enemy archers. Stairs are difficult terrain, yes.
Zaarah empowers her strange sword, whilst liberally applying grease to herself in order to facilitate an escape from the construct's clutches.
Kelumur looks for a weak spot, finds one, and regrets not investing in an adamantine weapon. Construct has Hardness, but you do some damage.
The iron sculpture attempts to crush the life out of Zaarah.
maintain grapple vs oily fox: 1d20 + 15 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 15 + 5 = 27

Round #2: AC 35 vs yellow (defensive crane wing, osyluth guile), 31 otherwise; CMD 39 vs yellow, 35 otherwise (+6 vs grapple), bless (2/10)
"Brahlim! Brahlim!"
Antonella burns 1 ki point to add 20’ to her movement speed as a swift action. She then heads up the stairs 60’ of move equivalents and readies to defensively strike any foe that comes within range of her.
