Everyone gets resistance, in the order of Kayin, Muraisa, Titan, Aerryndol, and Bjorkus.

It's a rough night for the oracle as he shakes and shivers in the grip of the disease afflicting him and his companions, but somehow he feels a bit better upon waking. Before setting out for their return to the brewery, Kayin secures one of the two longspears that they've been given and hefts it thoughtfully with a slight grimace at the weight. "Damn it, this thing isn't going to fun to haul around, but better than getting nearly killed again." With that, the oracle falls in with the others and begins his now-standard casting routine, this time including Aerryndol in the set. Between casts, he answers Muraisa's query with a faint smile. "Only when things go horribly wrong, I think. Then you're the designated leader, so it's your fault."

Is Titan aware of any ceremonies specific to Sanctumday in the Korlez faith?

Having spent the night watching the others, Bjorkus in particular, struggle with the plague, Titan doesn’t sleep very well either. ”How long is it supposed to take for that medicine to kick in?”, the hunter asks as the party prepares to break camp. ”Poor Bjorkus doesn’t have much of an appetite and the two of you spent the whole night tossing and turning.”

Finding themselves in front of the brewery once again, Titan considers the newcomer as he strings his bow. ”Aerryndöl was it? Before we move inside to destroy more of these corpses, we should know a little more about you. If you trained at the tower you must be some kind of mage. What kind of magic are you learned in?”

Former Initiate of the Visum Sodalitate, the Bright Tower.

@Titan - His holy days centered around the phases of the moon rather than a specific day of the week. I had begun to work out the phases but with them vanishing from the sky in the Shaping, I slacked off on the concept. I can look back into it, if you'd like the flavor.

@Titan - I forgot Bjorkus was infested as well, correct? If so, he can make his Fort save.

Aerryndöl looks back and forth at Kayin and Muraisa. "Oh... I just figured... nevermind," she says with a shrug. Turning her attention to Titian. "Never passed their precious trials, so can't really call myself a diviner," she mumbles with quite of bit of disrespect in her voice. "I've just picked up a few tidbits here and there. Whatever was handy... and useful."

"I have no idea if I would make a good leader," Muraisa explained to the woman. "I'm a berserk. I don't do well beyond crushing foes with my axe. And throwing myself into danger has not worked...well." Or at all, really. "But I have some ideas from my times hunting, and I will happily share them with the group. If you all agree, we shall do so."

Considering, she added, "And if it all goes badly and we must flee, I assure you all I shall lead from the front."

Nodding to Titan, she added, "I am...better? Not well yet. I can feel this stuff lingering. But I don't feel as cold nor as sick. Another night, with luck I think, and I should sweat the last of it out."

@Titan - Working on them. :)

"Burglar? That's rude. Are you implying that I take things that aren't mi... no, that's larceny. Burglary is," she scratches her head amoment looking up into the dark sky for inspiration. "Oh, yea. Burglary is the unlawful entry into a building or dwelling with the intent to commit a crime, especially theft. And that, would be an inaccurate assessment of my intent. So, offense taken," she says looking sideways at Titan. "I'll let it slide."

Aerryndöl glides up to the front doors of the brewery and listens for a couple seconds. "Yep, no one home." She flings open the door taking a step to the right and ducking behind the door for cover.

Several mutilated zombie corpses lay upon the wooden floor.

Much of the way to the brewery, Kayin is silent, his attention taken up by keeping his magic active on both himself and the others. Once the site of his near-death is reached, however, he pauses to address the others, even as their new fourth makes her entrance in the building. "I think we should definitely make sure that the upper levels are fully cleared before we head down. And once we're down, I've got a few useful tricks I can use to flush anything lurking well in advance of our actual position." The oracle's expression briefly sours as he recalls that at least one of the undead being a bit more capable in the brains department. Kayin nods and cautiously enters the brewery main room. As he does, he begins casting a different spell and soon the others can hear what sounds like a group of people moving ahead of them as the thump and shuffle of shod feet across the brewery's floor. The sourceless point of sound moves about slowly for a few moments before fading as the spell ends, though the oracle is quick to recast the spell and resume the noises each time that it does so. "Damned well wish this'd last a bit longer," he mutters between casts. "And that I had something shedding some light too, I've got a spell that could easily wave that about ahead of us with the noises."

Kayin is casting ghost sound with a duration of 1 round, at a varying distance of 15-25 feet ahead of his position. It's a DC 13 Will save to disbelieve the effect of the spell.

Stepping over the rotting carcasses of the zombies, the party proceeds through the large brewery, retracing their steps towards the open pit in the back. Entering that area and finally getting a good look, Muraisa notices the fireplace along the northern wall. A crowd of crates are stacked in the corner. Some broken open. Others still nailed shut. An open door along the west wall gives a little glimpse into the far room.

Following cautiously behind Muraisa and Bjorkus, Kayin keeps up his casting, making certain that the sounds of life brought forth by his magic keep well ahead of the party's actual position. Upon spying the open door, he narrows his eyes and directs the spell's focus through it and into the room beyond. "Let's see if there's anything lurching about in there before we go poking our own noses in," the oracle says softly.

Former Initiate of the Visum Sodalitate, the Bright Tower.

With her patience wearing, Aerryndöl walks forward and opens the door further exposing the room. "Looks, like an office... and no bodies, alive or dead... or mostly dead." she shouts back.

Watching Aerryndöl push ahead, the oracle just shakes his head slowly. "You know, taking a moment to make sure certainly beats finding out the hard way, especially when finding out doesn't cost anything but a spell or two that I can cast all day with little cost." Still, since the room is clear, Kayin follows and looks around intently for anything of use or value. After a moment's consideration, he addresses the others. "You know, while we're here, I'd like you to keep an eye open for anything that looks like a recipe. I don't recall that this place had a reputation for specialty brews and distillations, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they had one or two things that they made special on request." After another moment of thought, he speaks again. "And keep that eye open for ingredients too, while I'm thinking on it. Anything that isn't outright spoiled, I can likely get some use out of, one way or another." With that, Kayin begins to carefully the search the room.

@Valjoen: Though Kayin didn't use the technical terms--he wouldn't think to do so, unless someone else brings it up--he's making reference to alchemical alcohol recipes, alchemical reagents, and generic ingredients that might be useful in regular alchemy. If you need a refresher on available recipes or reagents, let me know :).

@Valjoen: Also, on the subject said reagents and ingredients, would a Survival check to forage be possible under the circumstances? I mean, this place has been unattended for a time with barrels and/or bottles of product still in the fermentation process. Maybe Kayin could find something useful in a container whose contents have gone off?

@Valjoen: Finally, though Kayin doesn't have the Profession (brewer) skill, would his Craft (alchemy) suffice to accurately the gauge the progress and fitness for consumption of the various potables around here? I'm sure Muraisa, at least, would appreciate not getting a mouthful of brew that turns her guts to foul-smelling water after it makes the passage through :D.

Outside of typical brewing supplies, Kayin doesn't find anything useful here to make alchemical items. It's cool and dry here. The barley, wheat, rye and hops found about the warehouse are all in decent, albeit slightly dried, state. A quick survey of the barrels, confirm that much, if not all of them, are fit for consumption.

Titan begins to search several of the boxes, noting that the largest crate has a false bottom allowing the bottom half of the crate to be filled separate from the top half.

After his own inspection turns up little of interest, Kayin approaches Muraisa for a moment. "Since we're here, and you've made your love of alcohol quite plain, those are safe enough," the oracles says while pointing the barrels whose contents he's sure of. "So if you have, or we find, extra flasks or bottles, you won't have to worry about unripened contents there." His tip delivered to the booze-happy barbarian, he then wanders over to see what Titan's found at the crates. The one with the split interior draws a laugh out of him when he sees it. "Oh my, looks like someone had an interesting sideline going on here. I wonder if this is related to that information we learned earlier about this place?"

Former Initiate of the Visum Sodalitate, the Bright Tower.

Earlier - As I forgot to include the description of the brewery's office following Kayin's search.

Kayin peers around the room. A small table holds a dry, empty flagon and a plate with some hardened meat. A small knife with a ornate wooden handle is planked between the plate and table. Across the room is a small desk. A leather bound book is open to a ledger discussing recent sales of their various brewthe s. Another older book contains several recipes and discussions on the brewing of beers and ales.

As Kayin turns to leave, he kicks something metal across the floor. A large silver coin rolls away from the oracle and stops between Aerryndöl's feet. She bends down and picks it up, flipping it between her fingers. She flashes one side towards Kayin which holds a large "G" engraved into the metal. "Odd coin... don't recognize the minting, but..." she says inspecting it carefully. "It is made of silver. Not that coins are worth much these days," she concludes with a shrug and pockets the coin.

Finding nothing remaining of value on the main floor, Kayin cautiously approaches the hole in the floor leading down to the basement. "Right," he mutters, more to himself than the others. "Guess we're back to this and whatever's down there. But before we go jumping in," he says with a glance toward Muraisa, "Let's see if there's anything waiting for us." While one hand shifts nervously upon the haft of the longspear, the other goes through the motions needed to direct a spell, and the sound of movement can be heard from below as the magic takes effect. The sound of ghosts is conjured by Kayin. The murmurs of the incantation echo softly through the cellars and reverberate up into the brewery. After a few nerve wracked moments, the group is confident that nothing real has reacted to the sounds.

Aerryndöl shrugs at Titan. "No more than him..." she says pointing at Kayin. "I can possibly aid a little misty magic to help in a retreat if it comes to that."

Considering the rope with a dubious expression, Kayin eventually drops the spear down to land on the floor below with a clatter and then, after a quick bit of magic to aid his grip, cautiously and nervously trusts his weight to the rope. It's not a pleasant experience for the oracle as he makes his way down, and he's not shy about voicing his opinion on the method of travel. Kayin follows after the barbarian and peers down the passage that she's discovered. Almost absent-mindedly, he renews on the both of them the magic that's he been casting since leaving the safety of the bridge camp. "Right then, I guess we go this way first and see what's at the end of the tunnel," the oracle remarks as he briefly returns to the others to restore their magical protection before trailing after Muraisa. As he does so, Kayin keeps his eyes and ears constantly seeking any sign of trouble, loot, or features of interest, briefly bolstering his senses with a bit of power.

The pair head into the northern tunnel which immediately turns almost due west, from what they can tell. The ground slopes downward and is uneven. Two small grooves in the floor suggest a cart of some sort has been traveling the lengths of this tunnel. As they travel further in, the humidity in the air rises ever so slightly. A rancid smell accompanies the moisture.

Looking over her shoulder at the others, Muraisa looked at the rails in confusion. "Are those how people move stuff out of a mine. You don't need to mine anything for beer, do you? I thought it was water and grains with yeast, mostly." The rancid smell was enough to make her keep her eyes open.

Titan and Bjorkus bring up the rear. The hunter pauses to examine the worn grooves in the floor.

"Could be more dead men", Titan warns as the rancid stick hits him. "Or worse."

Not sure what else there is to glean from the tracks. Maybe how heavy of a load the cart was moving?

Studying the grooves worn into the floor, the oracle answers Muraisa's query without pause. "Remember that we're not here just to clear this place of any lingering undead, but also to find out what part it played on that map we recovered. Considering the crate with the false bottom that Titan found upstairs, I'm quite certain this isn't anything to do with mining, but rather smuggling."

His own nose twitching at the rank odor in the tunnel, Kayin slows his steps to look consideringly at the hunter behind him. "Right, then I think we need to pause for a moment at some point, because that scroll we were given by Árón should be a big help in figuring out what's waiting up ahead." Even as he speaks the words, the oracle is already fishing the somewhat crumpled scroll out from under his armor where he'd stuffed it in absence of a more appropriate container.

Cautiously, Kayin and Muraisa proceed down the tunnel following the foul stench of death. Forty feet down the passage the pair finds three large crates still sealed with large iron nails. The outside of the crates are marred with scratches as though a feral beast had tried to claw the crate apart. A small whole at the base of each crate is particularly marred.

The smell that had attracted the beasts and alerted Kayin and Muraisa seems to emanate from the whole. The putrid smell is at times overwhelming. With the pair, guessing what is inside. Sure enough, as they unseal the crates, they find heavy blocks of iron holding down a false bottom. Inside each crate, they find the remains of a humanoid. To Muraisa's dismay, one corpse's dried and wrinkled flesh is stained with markings of ink tattoos. Unmistakable signs, she recognizes as the Firebird clan.

Further exploring the caverns underneath the brewery, Titan and his companion find a small alcove where the minotaur had fashioned a room. Other than a few trinkets and 75 gold pieces, they find nothing else of interest.

Two major tunnels lead out of the caverns. One leads nearly due east while the other leads northeast. Another smaller tunnel, leads southeast and sharply downward until it is submerged in water.

Having destroyed any other dangers here, the group returns to the bridge and the safety of others.

We'll pick up in Table #1 Thread with the groups meeting up that evening. I'll get that post done later this weekend.

With the source of the putrid smell filling the tunnel revealed by the trio of bodies, Kayin examines them carefully, attempting to discover how they ended up in such a state. He also examines the crates themselves with similar care, trying to figure out what this setup was about.

@Valjoen: Is there a skill or ability check we can make to learn anything about the bodies. Specifically, were they dead before or after they were crated? How did they die, and do the crates' interiors show any evidence that the occupants tried to get out?

Following the cursory examination of the remaining tunnels, the oracle points out an oddity regarding the last, the southeastern one. "Say, why does that one have standing water in it," he asks of his companions as he considers the submerged passage. "Didn't all of that get sucked into the Rift?" Leaving the others to consider that question, he approaches the water, dips a hand into it, and gives it a cautious sniff followed (assuming the water doesn't have an off-putting smell to it) by a tentative dip of his tongue.

Making a Survival check to see if the water is from something like a lake or river, or from the sewers.
