The gnolls get a larger area, but must deliver some of the food they harvest to the yeti.

Silvermane makes regular deliveries of necessary resources to the gnolls and the gnolls will stay out of the forest.

The yeti won't attack the gnolls and the gnolls can harvest resources from the yeti controlled area (the yeti are too chill to do it themselves). In return, the gnolls provide food for the yeti.

Pytho-7 watches on and uses his datapad to map the area and show the areas controlled by each of the species. He creates an electronic treaty that describes the agreement that is to be reached, starting with Donovan's words. "Now if we get the two leaders together with Silvermane, then they can ratify this treaty, though we should add, that if any want to follow us out when we leave, then we should allow them that option. It might increase our success threshold, if we also agree to be arbiters in any disputes that occur, when we make visits to this world, if we can find a consistent method of communication." the android concludes.

Starship Roles | S2-12 Slides | S2-18 Slides

Throughout the day you hammer out an arrangement with the three parties. Both the gnolls and the yeti agree to refrain from entering the swamp, though the gnolls do get access to occasional, careful visits to harvest some healing herb they need which seem to only grow there.

In exchange for occasional food shipments from the gnolls, the yeti agree to completely stay out of the hills (unless invited). The gnolls are willing to do this as it will allow them to stop worrying about defense and focus only on their farming.

Sparklemane wants nothing more than to be left alone.

The three leaders are uncertain if this will satisfy the requirements of the "game" but frankly don't care. They are content to lead a peaceful life without trying to please some faceless controller. Should you wish it though, they will accompany you to the center temple. Just let me know if you want them there.

Early that evening, you arrive back at the building and discover an opening on one wall leading to the interior of the building. A quick check around the outside of the building shows no other changes.

Baròleg readies his sidearm, making sure it's set to stun. Examining the new opening in the temple, "At least they're willing to let us in now. I am curious to find out more about whose running this so-called experiment."

He takes a moment to examine the new doorway, and get a look inside the building.

Also indifferent. If they want to leave this place, that is the way to do it. If not, that's their choice.

Rastar pointed and was about to remark about the new entrance...but Baroleg beat him to it. "I'm less curious to know about the experiment than I am about finding out the info we came for and leaving. This place gives me the creeps. I mean, what kind of mind does it take to set three different intelligent sophonts up against each other, where the only success condition explained is total domination? That's just begging to have all out war."

As he talked, he examined the doorway and surrounding area.

Okay, we'll leave them behind.

The opening leads to a large stone door, inset a few feet in from the outer walls. You find nothing odd in or around the door, and cautiously open it. Beyond it you can see a short hallway leading to a well lit room. From the outside you can see occasional blue pulses of light but hear nothing and see no movement.

I was hoping to hear from Pytho-7, but we shall continue.

Sparklemane, Inix and Corev join you at the temple, and the entire party make their way inside. Compared to the dim light outside, the interior of this circular room is quite bright. The source of the illumination is a clear central pillar approximately 10 feet in diameter, which pulses with a continuous series of bright bursts of blue light that travel up and down the interior. Around the perimeter of the chamber, numerous terminals and instruments are embedded in the white walls and provide readouts on a range of information both biological and technological. There are no creatures, or drones to be seen.

The terminals around the room have fairly standard interfaces. Pytho-7 and Seven both pick terminals and start to work. As soon as they touch the controls, the door to the room vanishes, replaced by solid, featureless concrete as a cool, mechanical voice speaks.

"Greetings, interlopers. Your behavior thus far has been noted. Final adjustments to the study have been made, and the building has been sealed for your personal safety. Commencing Duskmire sterilization protocols. Thank you!" With that, a deep and ominous hum fills the room.

Delta quickly responds to the vanishing door, but it is as if there was never an opening. Studying the computers they find the power output readings for the systems. Oddly, they find no changes in the power output of the system.

Pytho-7 and Seven starts hacking into the computer, but are unable to find any sterilization protocol running. They do find records from previous iterations, including a tally: "Gnolls: 2, Yetis: 3, Unicorn: 3." Donovan joins them to see what else they can find. Donovan's aid will be applied to round 2

Baròleg gets no response from the system, but is able to keep Corev and Inix from panicking. Rastar readies for action, but finds no targets. Inix begins beating on the wall where the door was.

The humming becomes louder, and the pulsing light in the center of the room quickens.

As the team tries desperately to understand and control what is going on, there is a loud, bass rumble and the lights go dark for a moment before returning to normal. The computers resume their monitoring and central pillar returns to a steady glow, with occasional pulses of blue. Any attempts to communicate with the room are met with silence.

Baròleg failed to find any breakers or overrides, but does locate a sliding panel. Behind the panel is a clear plastic canister with 750 UPBs.

The doorway reappears and Inix quickly rushes out of the room, following by Corev and then Sparklemane. Outside you find no evidence of anything having happened, and you suspect the controlling intelligence was either testing, punishing or just messing with you.

A more relaxed investigation of the room confirms that the pillar in the center is a sensor node with massive energy usage and output. You further learn that the information gathered by the equipment in the room is being sent somewhere else, but exactly where remains unknown. Penetrating the security features and understanding the nature of the high-tech equipment in the room likely requires several months of dedicated effort from Starfinder technicians.

Having finished your investigation of the power source, you make your way back to Venture-Captain Vex. The airlock to the vault is open and you find Vex and a team waiting on the other side. "Starfinders! I'm glad to see you back safely. You had me worried when the vault locked down." You report your findings to him, and he calls an end to further investigations for the time being, focusing instead on studying the temple's technology and extracting any survivors from the vault.

Any final questions or RP, now's the time. There are some chronicle questions on the discussion page.

Pytho-7 reports back to VC Vex, but cannot stop showing his annoyance that they failed to crack the alien technology and get into the control system. "It may be ancient, but is in advance of our knowledge. We'd best be careful if we meet whoever created it in the first place. Especially now they know their experiment has had visitors. He thanks the rest of the team sent into the experiment, "If we are chosen to work together again, it increases our chance of success." he pauses, "By at least 6.8%."

He then returns to Absolom Station where he lies low and seeking more quiet jobs.
