Room 8 -- The Control Center

As Rush, Spec and Minos dive into the computer systems, they confirm a number of things. This room is the command center for the Azlanti garrison. From here, the garrison command officer operates the defensive heavy laser cannons mounted on the roof, maintains the planetary suppression signal, and coordinates communication with other Azlanti forces in the system.

The communications array in the ceiling is the suppression signal generator. This device functions as a level 4 signal jammer, with two important exceptions. First, when connected to the garrison's communications array, it interrupts broadcast signals within 200 miles—a significantly larger area than signal jammers used by the Pact Worlds and sufficient to block communications throughout all of the colony on Nakondis.

You also learn the name of Azlanti's main ship, the Barazad. The holographic display of Nakondis is a map made by the Barazad when it initially arrived in the planetary system, and it slowly rotates. Azlanti occupation forces commonly use a map like this; it provides an overall view of the state of Azlanti control. Although the planet is predominantly colored blue, two patches of green show where the Azlanti forces have established their authority: Madelon's Landing and a smaller area that is 12 miles to the northwest.

You do have a roster of troops that are supposed to be here, and realize that the roster has three more troop members listed than what you have eliminated so far: two senior cadets and an officer named Master of Arms Olajra. In addition, you learn that there are ten officers stationed off-site at that secondary green location: A Lieutenant Sharu and nine cadets.

Am I hearing that you're taking a ten minute rest and searching the other rooms you cleared?

Yes, there are firearms on the goons. Everyone can completely replenish small arms and rifle ammo. Going through the other rooms you've cleared, you are able to notice details that you missed while under gunfire.

Room 1 -- Main Entrance and Staging Area

There is a holographic map of Madelon's Landing in this room. The map provides only mundane details, including the occupants of each building, the building's basic function, and notes about entrances and exits. This information is presented in clipped and formal Azlanti sentences. Of more interest to you are blurry pictures of the team, with notes on each one of you. There's a picture of Dalinar raising his sword, with a note about his mixed ancestry, a blurry picture of Pon, asking if a certain cadet had become a traitor, and then revised with a note marking Pon as a potential shapeshifter. The picture of Minos elicits some confusion, and is marked as 'unknown race'. The one marked of Wint notes that he's likely 'an escaped slave from the Veskarium'. Rush's picture correctly identifies him as a wrikichee. Prosper is marked as a human, but the most speculation is written about Professor Spec.

Azlanti:
What is an Oso doing out here, so far from Azlant space? That population is pacified. Is this a sign of possible rebellion back home? Worth investigating.

Room 2 -- Barracks

This room contains thirteen bunk beds. The footlockers each have two hinged lids; one on each side. Each lid is emblazoned with a personal symbol incorporating a family crest to denote ownership. Each lid opens into a compartment just large enough for a cadet's personal gear. Although some compartments have a few personal items, such as valuables stolen from slain colonists or pictures of grinning cadets posing over gruesome kills, none contain anything of value.

Room 3 -- Washroom

The Azlanti have some awesome scented soap and bath gels in here.

Room 4 -- Back Door and Rear Staging

This room has almost nothing of interest in it.

Room 7 -- Mess Hall

The four tables here are each equipped with a prominent activation button; when pressed, the tables unfold and sprout benches for sitting. Then, like a spider, the table scuttles to an unoccupied part of the room, keeping its distance from any other table in order to give diners some space. Pressing the same button causes the table to fold up again, although a table doesn't fold up if it has anything on its benches or its surface.

The posters in the room are amazing pieces of Azlanti propaganda. One shows an idealized looking soldier standing on a pyramid of other bowed and cowed people from other races. There are 17 other races depicted here, including a group of little owl people.

Another shows a fleet of emerald ships in the sky, and a group of emerald soliders on the ground, shooting at everything in their path.

Another shows a gorgeous cadet whipping a small furry creature, and reads,

The domestic drone has finished sweeping up the bullet shells and damaged bits of walls from the shooting in here.

Azlanti:
“One Soldier Is Worth a Thousand Natives,” “The Aeon Throne Needs Your Every Effort,” and “Serve Your Superiors, Dominate the Weak.”

Earlier:
Prosper takes the short break to recover and change out of this azlanti armor. He rubs at the spots where he was shot earlier and mentions "I don't know what it says about azlanti, but their armor is definitely about fashion first and comfort second, and maybe actually protecting you waaaay in third place."

He looks up at what Minos and Spec are learning about from the computers. "So the other spot must be the place the azlanti were investigating, right? The... ship? If they split so many of their people there, they must really care about it a lot, don't you guys think?"

10 min rest - 1 RP for SP refill.

"And WOW, how did they put together all these notes on us already?" He tilts his head as he looks at the pictures taken of the party, then tries to work out when and how they were taken. "We should tell Aibretta to sweep the town for hidden cameras, probably. Especially if more azlanti end up arriving from that huge ship of theirs."

---
A little later:
Prosper helps himself to awesome scented soap and bath gels. There's no harm in smelling good - even if you smell like an azlanti. (When he goes back to the Pact Worlds, he's going to have to open a business importing azlanti bath products :>)

In the mess hall, he simply stands there with hands on his hips, looking at the motivational posters. "Gross."

This room also contains several mundane supplies such as cable, digging tools, and spare batteries.

As you look through, you find four suits of Free Booter Armor I, all with bloodstains. 1000 credits worth of UPBs. Room 6 -- Kitchen

The humming sounds coming out of this room have turned into an all-out performance of what can only be Azlanti opera.

Azlanti:

♫ O my darling
With you I am undone
Let us cook,
What a glorious meal I will make for you!
Splashes of golden oil
The freshest of spices,
Tender morsels,
A folded crust that would make angels cry
Oh let me feast you
Oh say that you will dine
With me tonight
And every night, yes every night forevermore! ♫

As you pop open the door, you see a tidy kitchen contains a sink connected to a large vat of water, an electric stove, and a neatly organized pantry loaded with spices, flours, beans and packages of vacuum-packed ingredients. There are runes all over the stove and sink, and spinning in the middle of the room is the singing clockwork, floating three feet above the floor. As it spins in the room, knives chop some sort of vegetables, and a package of meat appears to be unwrapping and then leaping on a knife to slice itself.

As you peek in, the clockwork stops singing, and throws a spatula at you.

Spatula throw!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

The spatula bonks harmlessly against Minos's armor.

“रसोई में कोई कैडेट नहीं!” the clockwork shouts, “क्या आप एक कलाकार को बाधित करेंगे? यह भोजन केवल एक उत्कृष्ट कृति होगी यदि आप बीच में नहीं आते हैं!”

Azlanti:

"No cadets in the kitchen!" "Would you interrupt an artist? This meal will only be a masterpiece if you do not interrupt!"

Then a wind slams the door shut. As you back away, so do the spider-like mechanical tables in the mess hall.

Spec wanders over to slightly-wounded-Dalinar and compassionately (healing) touches him on the shoulder to restore 5 HP. ”Hang in there noble friend”

Dalinar:

Spec looks up at Dalinar, but can’t quite seem to meet his gaze. ”Umm… I’m sorry to say this to someone as valiant as you Dalinar… but I really don’t know. When I was just a hatchling, the Azlanti were this great green boogeyman that lingered around harassing our few outer colonies. (We were just outside of their space at that time.) The colonists always seemed to be the ones that couldn’t come to terms with the changes in our divinities Xa and Osoro. See, our gods actually lived in the stars in the center of the system before 300 years ago …. And then Osoro didn’t, and a lot of my people didn’t survive his departure.”

“When I turned 8, I thought I was so grown up, a brand new adult!” He sniffles quietly then angrily dashes the traitorous drops of water from his eyes.

”I thought they’d never come into the system with Xa living there … but that was probably WHY they came … 30 years ago, I left to learn more about the people of the universe and follow my theory about where Osoro went. I was so absorbed in my own pursuits, that it wasn’t until maybe a decade later that I even began to wonder why I hadn’t received comm-packets from home. I tried calling back once, and when a human voice answered in Azlanti … I disconnected and haven’t been brave enough to try again or get too close to knowing anything.
I guess I figured if I didn’t know for sure, I could hope my family was still alive somewhere.”

The professor gestures around them wildly

”After seeing this place though …. My father was way too … I mean there’s no way ……”
He clears his throat vigorously
”Ahem, suffice it to say that he’d.ve been the first one on the bottom of that pile … maybe they’d all be there with him ….. I was always the timid one… heh..heh” Spec laughs bitterly

-------------
In the supply room
”Oh goody, grenades!” He gets the far-away look of remembrance in his eye ”A long time ago, in a life that doesn’t seem so far away as it did last month, I used to quite enjoy these things. Letting my partner distract some poor unwitting schlub and I’d just fly overhead unnoticed and drop incapacitation grenades all over them…. heh”
He shakes his head as he comes back to the now. ”Oh, sorry about that, we should probably gather what we need from here huh? ... Minos, do you think your token spell could get these bloodstains out?”
-------------
In the kitchen
Spec wracks his brain as he tries to remember why this situation feels so familiar to him
Culture: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Mysticism: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

But ultimately concludes that the stress of the situation must be interfering with his long-term memory … (because it could never be due to getting older … right?) Maybe a quick browse through the base records later on will jog his memory?
"Sorry Minos, I feel like I should remember something, but it's just static right now .... Maybe we can research it more later?"

This time Dalinar does put his hand on Spec's shoulder. "Professor...Spec, there is nothing for you to be ashamed about. You did what you thought was best. There are far worse things one could have in their past. Your father sounds like someone deserving of your pride in him. I wish I could feel the same way about my own. Rooting the empire out here may not be much vengeance for your people, your family, but let's take what we can get."

When Prosper translates Wint's words to the singing clockwork, the clockwork responds, "में कोई कैडेट ..." A mixing spoon hangs in the air, pointing in your direction aggressively. Then it pauses and lowers the spoon, puzzled as it peers at both Prosper and the Skittermander. "ओह। तुम कैडेट नहीं हो। नई मदद? मुझे नई मदद के बारे में नहीं बताया गया था!" Then its springs compress and decompress as it cogitates. "रात के खाने के बाद मुझे देखना।" It says in an imperious tone before the wind once again shuts the kitchen door.

Azlanti:
"No cadets in the..." "Oh. You're not a cadet."

"New help? I was not told about new help!"

"Come see me after dinner."

Alas, neither Spec nor Minos recognize exactly what the odd little chef is, but that can be examined later.

You've rested and explored the other rooms. It's time to find the prisoners and the other Azlantis. As you open the door, you discover two Azlantis waiting for you with readied actions. The Red Senior Cadet is poking his head out of the Brig, and enjoying the partial cover of the doorway. He has a Sopranino singing disk in his hand.

This wide training room has several colorful, stylized posters on the wall. Well-used targets are mounted on the walls to the north and east. Large, thin pads cover the floor on the eastern half of the room. The Blue Senior Cadet has piled these pads on top of each other to give himself a barricade with cover, and has a tactical semi-auto pistol aimed at you.

See, I was keeping Hyper for EXACTLY now. I didn't forget it before. Honest :-) :-)

The Hyper Skittermander suddenly rushes the blue Azlanti so that it now does NOT have cover from him

At the last second, he ducks behind a couple of the mats that are protruding, hiding himself from the Azlanti

Seeing that the kitchen robot is less single-minded than he'd thought, Prosper waves at it and says "हाँ, बाद में मिलते हैं। अज़लंती यहाँ हो सकता है थोड़ा उह, अप्रत्यक्ष, के बाद हम कर रहे हैं। इसलिए मुझे आशा है कि आप खाना पकाने के नए अवसर की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं!"

Azlanti:
"Yeah, see you later! The azlanti here might be a little uh, indisposed, after we're done. So I hope you're looking forward to a new cooking opportunity!"

Now:
Seeing the light at the end of the azlanti-fighting tunnel, Prosper calls out cheerily "Go go go guys! You can do it! Knock that hidey guy out. His nose is too big anyway~" Before firing his flare rifle as a distraction.

Prosper does a Get 'Em on Blue, but fails to activate fire support.

Minos starts chanting, "Ooga". I wonder what he could be summoning?

Meanwhile, you all hear a voice that speaks in a clipped Azlanti accent. "Unwelcome visitors, by all means continue with your rude trespassing. I will of course respond by starting to shoot the prisoners. Hmmm... I was hoping to keep them for public executions, but we do have an audience, now don't we? Who should I shoot first? Madelon, or the disgusting former swarm component? Or perhaps one of the humans? They're all lesser creatures -- so easy to break. Choices, choices..."
