I believe that the general rule is that for crafting taking 10 is permissible in this universe but taking 20 is not. It always carries some risk of failure.

As far as spells, pretty much the same, though Maria will be spitting tanglefoot bags for a while, probably. Still, self-buffing and buffing allies is usually superior to debuffing, at least most of the time. Unfortunately it'll be a good while before I can cast spells on other people, but when I do, I get to cast "self" spells on other people, which will be very powerful in some cases, because they can be some of the best spells in the game.

Its certainly an interesting party setup we have!

Wouldn't that apply to just the making though, not actually identifying something (made) with the skill (I didn't try this with the vial of perfume because it didn't occur me)?

I mean, Valjoen has the final ruling, as always--and let's hope he drops in soon for some results and rulings--which is why I spoilered it just in case. I suppose, however, that if the identification attempt were treated along the lines of using a Knowledge skill, that would explain not being able to take 20 (in which case, note should definitely be made in the Skills section of the campaign wiki for future reference).

If you're going to collect ranks in Knowledge skills, have you considered the Kirin Style feat set? Identify a critter with a Knowledge check, get assorted bonuses against it.

And I certainly hope Kayin works out as I'd like. The emphasis on combat maneuvers is certainly going to be different from straight up racking targets for as much damage as possible.

The only problem I'm going have with Kayin's build is that there are a good few feats (okay, a lot more than a few :D) that'll be incredibly useful, but nowhere near the feat slots to take them. Unless I give over being an oracle and go pure fighter, but I'm already playing a melee character of that sort in the original Bright Tower campaign, and really wanted to dip into something different for the Last Haven game. Honestly, just about every life essence I get in this game is going straight to a feat; Ysildaë will understand the reference when I say I'm going to be the Niyut of this campaign around life essences :D.

I can only say what he has said in the past that taking 20 presumes that there is at least 1 fail state and you achieve it. So taking 20 isn't good for any task where failure would be a bottleneck. Knowledge rolls, crafting, ect.

I think taking 20 is only good for searching things and if you have a special ability that lets you do it for stuff.

I feel like that's what all of us will be using it for. Especially if I wanna grab the Kirin Style feats (damn, that looks REALLY good, and as written it looks like it interacts with crits, but could be wrong on that). There's also an enchantment I'll be looking for that idk how to make; if I use it, I'll be able to spend a single inspiration to add 2d6 and later 2d8 to a damage roll, while adding 1d6/1d8 to the attack roll itself. So many things to do!

Fortunately, I have games on PC (including a couple of Pathfinder games, lol), so I'm not going nuts from lack of input. It's even given me a few laughs, because one of my few Steam friends is also a GM here in a campaign I'm part of. And the game I'm currently playing, Shadow of Mordor, had a few missions that featured me killing enemies that had killed him the last he played that :D.

I'm wondering if I could parley that into a campaign bonus of some sort, rofl.

Sorry for the silence. Work obviously became a bit more focused the last few weeks. I've been focused on moving 90% of our workforce to home, which means lots of unforeseen logistic issues to keep the bank running smoothly.

Everyone at my house is doing well. My wife, who is immune-compromised, works in healthcare treating patients recovering from surgery. So, little stressed out for her safety. I hope everyone else is doing ok.

How is everyone? I'm jonesing for some role-playing here.

Today in Philadelphia, it is the most glorious spring morning. All the trees on my street are putting forth new leaves and the color is almost unreal. Or it could be that after a literal month of isolation I have forgotten what the world outside my apartment looks like.

Surviving in a post-apocalyptic world would help distract me from those bright green leaves and how much I want to frolic outdoors.

I was just checking character sheets and realizing that you were all still second level. Yes, I forgot to post that you should advance to third level. My bad!

On the subject of leveling and character progression, it occurs to me that we (at least the former table #2) have a few essences we never imbued.

Is the process of imbuing/using essences known and/or intuitive or is it something that the characters would need to seek out information on?

There was more than three. We found a couple early on and we found some more in the big battle that killed our rogue.

In this post it was mentioned we needed planes to identify the essences. What skill did we need to identify the second batch?

Well, in fairness, the campaign had dropped to a sputtering crawl, even before the whole "stay at home" mess, so they're probably not checking in very often.

Not even going lie, lol, I was doing three checks a day when we were moving along last year. One morning, one mid-afternoon, and one late night. Nevermind the more frequent checks whenever the insomnia had a hold.

When we are more active, I was checking in every couple of hours while working. And then again maybe an hour before bed. There was a glorious point where our GM was answering messages and the discussion thread between ~10:30 and ~12:00 EST. It was amazing.

But, now he is buried in professional success which is also amazing, but doesn't directly entertain me. :-p
