It very much depends on your plans for the character. At the beginning, I would imbue your Masterwork Great Sword so it becomes a Wonder. And then plan from there. Like if it is a Death Essence, I would see if Vicious is the only special weapon it could grant or if Bane (undead bane would be awesome) or Vampiric would also be thematically aligned with Primal Death. (I'm guessing they would be.)

The real secret to getting the most out of your essences is to be able to link thematically the ability that you want to the essences you possess.

If it stays near the bars and lets her attack with impunity. If that's the case, we don't really need to roll.

This party really cracks me up.

It's a good thing we're all pretty good at taking hits, because so far we are kinda bad at just about everything else. I'm enjoying the struggle. It's a fun change of pace from other games. Every time we manage to pull something off it feels like a major victory.

Its really hard to maintain the fantasy of your character being an expert at something, like, say, a brilliant and well read investigator, when you roll 3's and the cleric goes scouting

I could be glib and say that at level 2 none of us are experts on anything. We can be promising, but we don't have the chops yet. I would think of it is you being well-read, but this is your first time in such trying circumstances. As you gain in-field experience, you improve in turning theory to practice.

Don't feel too badly all of us have had awkward in character moments so far.

As for scouting, in play by post I find it better to keep everybody moving. Whether one is good out scouting or not. As this campaign has shown things can stall even with the best of intentions.

We have a protocol for moving with the shield, opening (breaking) doors, searching the rooms. I don't think you need for us to roll-call each time.

Agreed. GM, if you want to do batch-rolls for things like perception, initiative, and saves to speed us forward, I say go for it.

Ok, I'll move us along, but have a few questions.

1) On the undead corpse in the detention cell, you found a magical (according to Akula) belt pouch. You were unable to unclasp it. Are you leaving it or attempting any other actions to take it?

2) Are you taking anything else from that corpse?

3) I understand that Toraim has the dagger & message tube and that he has passed out the 4 CLW potions, correct? And Maria has the other two, unknown potions, correct?

Anyone in for impromptu surgery? At the least, Maria could simply break the hip and slide the belt off, leaving the skeleton mostly intact. Its a fun alternative to upsetting the beliefs of our Dwarven friend :)

While its probably a Heal check, a +4 isnt terrible and its a good use for inspiration. Besides, its something I plan for her to get better at, which should help free us up to some degree or another, since I wont have the ability to give other people things like cure wounds for a while and our divine casters are more combat focused. And heal has other uses :)

Plus I'll probably pick up a talent next level that lets me auto-inspiration on heal checks, as well as perception, sense motive, diplomacy... and profession, but who cares about that. I love playing a skill monkey, finally. Its refreshing.

Just wait till I can take 20's on even in-combat knowledge checks. And give everyone a to-hit bonus for a round if I identify a monster. Woot.

I just now realized you can preview dice rolls so you can actually like, make confirmation rolls and other stuff you might need to do. Also: "standing in the way" did not imply a threat of violence!

Toriam might not have intended a threat, but more than one of the other characters took it as such. (Maria was prepared to draw her sword.)

I know that if a man (or woman for that matter!) with multiple weapons stood in a door way and said that I or an injured person with me couldn't leave a room because one of us were somehow inhuman or evil, I would feel very threatened. Of course some of that threat is a product of real-world legacies of violence against communities of which I'm a member.

Ysildaë, for her part, isn't nearly as afraid as I would be in the same situation. She is a warrior confident in her abilities to protect herself and the injured, unconscious child she is carrying.

She agrees with Toriam that this child could be a danger and should be watched and questioned. However, in the child's current condition she is vulnerable and in need of aid. Aid that Ysildaë for ethical and religious reasons will be quick to render.
