True I suppose
Also, I really cannot wait for second level, I'm definitely picking up Dark Matter as soon as I can to make all the tanking I'm going to be doing easier. If that doesn't make things easier, I'll probably do a bit of a rebuild at higher levels and swap Longarm Proficiency for Weapon Focus Small Arms, pick up a Handcannon and a Tactical Shield.
My damage will take a modest hit since I don't think a Tactical Shield counts as a free hand for the Free Hand property of the Handcannon so Double Tap isn't an option. Range will be a bigger hit though. Blade in the Dark will help with that and the damage dice of Handcannons is roughly equal to Long Arms.
I've always allowed a free rebuild in my campaigns once people hit lvl 2. There are so many things that can happen. Things not working out. Party composition changing.

Level 1 is pretty rough in Starfinder. I've done a lot of Society play with newbies and having a level 2 character at a table of level 1s can mean the difference between success and a TPK. The big things are that you finally stop feeling like cardboard and you get access to your first really mechanically unique ability.

Wait! We're approaching this all wrong! They"re space kitties so we use a laser pistol like a laser pointer to lead it out the airlock and then just seal the hatch!

Jaru is tentatively leveled up. When I built the character I specialized in piloting, however, since that time we skipped the only space combat(which I am totally fine with!) and GM Woran has mentioned that a level 2 rebuild is allowed. I am wondering if I should re-allocate the resources I put into Piloting. Will we be skipping every Space Combat(again I am totally fine with this) and if so does the system make use of the Piloting skill often enough outside of Starship combat to make it worth keeping the investment. Currently, my theme, feat, and one skill point per level are all geared towards Piloting.
There are a few fun space battles, but they all happen in the last two books. Up till then they are all of the 'we need to put a space combat in becasue we have to' variety.

I vote we do at least one before the actually interesting and story relevant ones come up so we've got a little practice.

That's why I've finally started to overcome my fear of needles for the yearly vaccine. Getting jabbed in the shoulder is better than wanting to die for several days.

Sorry to hear about your flu. Con crud(and apparently LARP Crud) is real. I think I barely escaped a similar fate. I felt incredibly worn down and on the edge of getting sick but managed to stave it off.

Do I retain my fly speed inside the drift rock? The wording says I have a 20 ft. fly speed while in space. It sounds like we're headed into the interior of the rock so I wouldn't be surrounded by the void of space but if there's no atmosphere or gravity it might still count.
