As soon as it appears, the scaled one's avatar launches itself into the air and at the tentacled creature. In a brutal display of savagery, "Arc" tears into the creature with tooth and claw and finally, slamming it with his wings.

Relevant Abilities:

Intimidate(Demoralize Opponent): You can use this skill to cause an opponent to become shaken for a number of rounds. The DC of this check is equal to 10 + the target’s Hit Dice + the target’s Wisdom modifier. Success: If you are successful, the target is shaken for one round. This duration increases by 1 round for every 5 by which you beat the DC.

Frightful: You may escalate the effect of fear effects when you use the Intimidate skill to demoralize by increasing the demoralize DC. You may make a shaken creature frightened by increasing the DC by +10 and a frightened creature panicked by increasing the DC by +20. You must choose to apply this DC increase prior to making the check.

Fear’s Herald: At 4th level, the fright wright’s mastery of panic and terror can begin to erode away even the fiercest resolve. All enemies within 10 ft. of the fright wright take a -4 penalty on saving throws against fear effects. Creatures normally immune to fear lose that immunity while within 10 ft. of the fright wright. A creature maintains their immunity to fear effects if they have 4 more Hit Dice than the fright wright has class levels.

The octopus speaker who had originally proposed the odd vicarious combat appears to... frown noticeably. Indeed, its large eyes crease into a pair of incredibly exaggerated half moons that join in a crisp needle point at the center of its face.

In a moment, the creature still holding the hostile expression, a voice holding a noticeably aggravated tone arises simultaneously in the heads of all present,

"TWO OUT OF THREE!"

The Destined Attendant cheers, her hands clasped and her relatively long arms far above the top of her head. "Delightful attack, dragon friend! Delightful! Only, you forgot to see what these hard shelled ones can do."

Then when the demand for two out of three comes, a wide grin breaks out on her shaggy face. "Excellent! Maybe I'll get luckier with the game this time!"

Eirkur steps forward as well. This is how the Queen's Emissaries conduct themselves? With dishonor, lies, and manipulation? The disapproval in his voice and stance is quite clear. Regardless of his (poor) opinion of the individual creatures, the fact that they claim to be representing a higher authority and act this way disgusts him.

The Unfettered Prince turns to the emissary.

"You are beaten. The duel is over and ww have won. If you wish to propose another duel for different stakes, we *might* hear you out. If you pay up for the duel just won."

If it is even possible, it seems as if the nose-less creature's face squints in an even more pronounced frown as the annoyed tone of its mental communication again breaks the silence between the two parties,

"Our glorious Queen is the most noble AND most honorable of all beings!"

It is easy to imagine the octopus sputtering wildly if that were possible.

Another of the creatures arises nearby, and it is as if the strange party overhears its communication with their angry interlocutor,

"Peace Tigraks, neither you nor I could have known that they would have been so far... advanced in the interim. It will be something to report to Yufrencis. I suppose you might as well answer their questions now that Essox has been so resoundingly defeated. I would have deployed Pherenx, but of course you never ask my advice about such things, do you?"

The Nightmare Dragon takes a step back, thinking that he probably isn't the best ambassador to the octopus people at the moment.

Iy all goes too fast for Cassius. It seems as if he was charmed, bound or something, but he can't think as fine as he used to. Or, at least, that's the feeling he gets, because he can't really remember how fast he used to think.

Every time he's about to open his mouth, everything changes, so he sticks to nodding when his companions say something he agrees with.

"Let's hope they don't take reprisals."

"So many of the land dwellers have come and gone over the course of the last billion or more years, that it becomes difficult to separate them in one's mind, no matter how well cultivated to the task of recollection."

"Our peoples? What do you mean?" Any information about their origin, given their amnesia, might be key for them right now.

Busumol blinks,

"Why, the long departed races from which each of your strange assembly derives."

The octopus squints,

"Whatever else should I mean?"

Arc comes from a world of brutal conflict and a caste system. There are those who believe that "might makes right" and use that as an excuse for greed and avarice. Those who oppose them fight the caste system and believe in compassion and lifting others up.

Cassius comes from a world where different tribes fight for food and land, but share some links that make them unite against foreign invaders if the situation arrives. Technology is close to Bronze Age, and the landscape is usually woodlands and plains. These people worship a pantheon of natural gods, representations of the Sun, the Moon and similar natural entities, and they usually live in good terms with Nature, having no big cities and altering their environment quite a few. An example of all of these would be the Black Forest tribes in Germany before the Romans arrived.

You can pm me or give me fluff info here. I just need something to work with for Busumol's reply.

Eirikur and Dagun have no real recollection of their former homes. However, given the nature of their skills and the magics and weapons at their command, Eirikur is quite sure they did not come from a settled past. Whether by cataclysm or culture, he had to fight for every scrap of gain.

The octopus known as Bumusol, whose eight-limbed body is a distinctive sea blue shade speckled with orange spots of a striking tangerine hue, narrows its eyes in apparent annoyance as it begins to answer the being known as the Unfettered Prince,

"Well, as it so happens, the venerable Yufrenics, along with the savants Kamansul, Tegranif, and Chanak'ek, all high servants of our Glorious Queen, preserve a distant recollection, several tens of millions of years in age. It is as follows: none are certain if the so-called Burning Angel truly came from Heaven, but he certainly appeared to be a figure of righteous fury. In any event, one day this entity manifested in the middle of the great land known as Antak, appearing in a blinding blaze of light."

"This being rapidly gathered allies. The cyclops seers gathered most of the giant clans with urgent prophecy. The fey courts and a number of outcast lesser celestials of uncertain past both saw Him as their leader. The lesser peoples were divided, as were those in the grip of the Lords of the Shadow Vale."

"The Vale was left a scorched ruin, the Shadows burned out, their secrets seized. Those who opposed the Burning Angel soon learned they could kneel, they could run, or they could die."

"The inhabitants of Antak made their choice among those three, often sooner than later."

"After a shockingly swift series of conquests, the Burning Angel took to rule. He established the Glorious Court, to advise and to delegate to. And in the long centuries to come, to take over the burdens and the joys of rulership as He drew more isolated from the cares of the earthly world."

"The Unfettered Prince knows of the Glorious Court, rulers of a realm of wonders. Nobility, the products of ancient and powerful bloodlines, competed and collaborated for power and position. He knows that he was a scion in that very court."

"Everyone else will have to ask questions in character to get info from Bumusol.

The Unfettered Prince? That is the title that seemed most apt when I first spoke to you all. And I have powers that can most readily be explained by inheritance. Perhaps from the Burning Angel themself! But then...how was I cast to here? A jealous foe in the Glorious Court, surely!

He thinks at the octopus, allowing his companions to "hear" also.

My thanks. That is food for thought indeed, and brings understanding, if concern also.

And for extra layers of mystery...

The Unfettered Prince:

The octopus appears, from all available evidence, to be dealing forthrightly with they amnesiac fey.

As satisfied as he can be of the octopus' intent to tell truth, the Unfettered Prince continues mindspeaking.

I have more questions. What became of the Burning Angel? Where is Antak and what happened to it? What became of the Unfettered Prince of this prophecy? And what of the Glorious Court?

Cassius waits patiently for the rest of the group to have their answers.

Eirikur thinks on the responses, trying to decide whether there is any advantage to be gained from asking what these beings might know of his own history. Deciding that knowing more is rarely worse than knowing less, he poses his own question to the being in a moment of silence between thoughts. It seems that your recollections span many years and in great detail... Can you share with me what strikes a chord of recognition when you look at myself and my companions?

I have more questions. What became of the Burning Angel? Where is Antak and what happened to it? What became of the Unfettered Prince of this prophecy? And what of the Glorious Court?

I think I got all the lore you gave me, let me know/

"The Glorious Court began as a gathering of elites, hand-chosen members of their respective races and factions for ability and ethics. The primordial forests and soaring mountains of Antak offered all the material and spiritual wealth they could have wanted."

"But over time, the Burning Angel appeared to even the Court less and less often, and Antak's few foes had fled beyond the endless ocean. Without a unifying cause, leader, or enemy, the Glorious Court slowly but surely changed from elite advisors and delegates to increasingly debauched despots. They began to use the peoples of Antak as part of their petty vendettas and power plays, often carried out over millennia."

"A prophecy arose, from one of the few remaining Cyclopean Seers:"

"One will arise, akin to the First, to repeat the end of the dark, and the order of the light."

"Centuries rolled on, and this prophecy was all but forgotten."

"A youth with promise began to rise from the interwoven branches of the Glorious Dynasties, as they had taken to calling themselves. A minor scion, but one who did not approve of the decay around him. This scion agitated and gathered ears, then supporters. He seized upon the prophecy and began to place himself in it, as "the Unfettered Prince" who would be akin to the First, the Burning Angel."

"And perhaps this Unfettered Prince would have accomplished great things. But in a gathering of the Glorious Court, where he openly denounced powerful figures, there was a blaze of light. And then the Unfettered Prince was gone. And his nascent movement collapsed without its leader."

"The Glorious Court's stagnation and final disaster were millennia in the future. But came they did, and the Glorious Court tore itself apart in internecine bloodshed rather than come together to save Antak from civil war, famine, and increasing barbarism."

"The last days of Antak saw fires sweep across the continent, leaving little but ash and blackened mountain peaks."

The Unfettered Prince is stunned into silence for long moments as he absorbs what feels like the utmost truth about his past and the fate of Antak.

Not sure if the octopus has responded the one called Bizan already, Cassius ventures forth. "I would like to know about me and my homeland, please. Help me refresh my memories." He can feel that the creatures respect power more than politeness, but he just can't help it. Maybe Cassius comes from a kind word? If so, why would he have such amazing abilities, other than to be used for good? And if they are needed abilities, it must be because goodness is threatened...

Shooing away his thoughts, Cassius focuses on Bumusol's answer.

Eirikur laughs in humor. Aye, that sounds about right. Can't say I blame them. He looks over to his companions, and with just a bit of loneliness in his voice says Guess it's just us now. We'll just have to show all of these folk what we've got!

In a voice heavy with sorrow and rage, the Unfettered Prince resumes mindspeech.

Ash. Antak, the Glorious Court, the people, all ash, and aeons gone. Whomever I was, whatever I am, I cannot save a people millions of years dead. Unless...Busumol. Do your people know of a way to traverse time? To return to days gone past? Do such things exist in this distant future?

The scion racks his mind, eager to find some chance, no matter how slender of fulfilling his destiny.

And turns to Eirikur and the others.

You are correct, Eirikur. It is just us. And if I cannot save my own, here is where destiny lies.

Did you give me any information to work with on the world your character is from?

The Unfettered Prince: Knowledge (Religion (i.e., on divine intervention)):

The Unfettered Prince can recall nothing useful.

The Unfettered Prince: Knowledge (Knowledge (Arcana (i.e., on mighty spells)):

It seems as if the Order of Truth, the principle religion of the Steadfast mentioned by the stones of the Sunken City of Cle, might be the most likely candidate to harbor such knowledge.

The Unfettered Prince: Knowledge (Knowledge (Planes (i.e., on creatures or planes to allow access to the past)):

The Ninth World is filled with the bizarre and unexpected. But beyond it, the truly astonishing awaits. There are many dimensions in the 'Outside' including such exotic locations as the Banded Bluff, the Endless Abode, the Whispering World, Celerillion, or mysterious Reeval—the source of the Nibovian threat.

Perhaps one of these might hold the key to the fey's temporal ambitions?

The Unfettered Prince: Knowledge (Knowledge (Engineering (i.e., on marvels of technology)):

The Unfettered Prince can recall nothing useful.

Duly noted. Before I respond, does the octopus reply to the Unfettered Prince's questions?

Sorry, didn't see it was a question to the octopus, and not just to himself.

"There are many means of traversing both time and space in the Ninth World."
