I went ahead and made a post but we won't really get started until tomorrow. Just for a note about tone this is a comedy. There will be anachronisms like pizza and references to memes and i phones and such, and please feel free to let lose and be ridiculous

First real post up, and a poem before it. Everyone needs a reason they're at the pre-Christmas pizza slumber party -- that's where we're starting.

whichever sounds fine.

I'll be done with crunch today!

One Q: it seems like, at this level, it makes sense for all of us to use crafting costs, if any of us are doing it.

I can squeeze crafting for myself into my build if you prefer...but alternately, are you cool with me paying crafting costs and saying I got it for being extraordinarily charming? (I do, after all, have a 38 Charisma, Diplomacy +48, and a racial ability (Irresistible) that says "npcs always start with a friendly attitude to Jiinjas unless circumstances dictate otherwise".)

Just lemme know as I copy / paste, proofread, and debug my final build.

Ooooh, one potentially big Q: Jiingas are constructs...but the way the race is written up doesn't make clear which (if any) construct traits I should have. Does a Jiinja have a construct's immunities? Does it not have a Constitution? Does it heal from Make Whole and *not* from healing magic?

(Might be simplest just to ignore the good and bad construct traits...but I can make either work.)

...and I *finally* have a profile up. Please give it a gander and let me know if you have Qs or see mistakes.

TODO list for me: clean it up & organize it more, doublecheck skills (I've overspent skill points somewhat), make sure I've applied all modifiers everywhere...but it should at least all be there.

...and I've fixed Kuchen's profile up pretty good now, I think. Qs and comments welcome.

Merry Krampusnacht to all!

I'll post soon. Like most of us I'm imagining I'm doing Xmas stuff with family right now and all my games seem to be taking a brief break

Merry Christmas everyone. I know the holiday season will be slow here on the boards. To make matters worse, I'll be travelling to Egypt until Jan 5th. In case this gets rolling again, please bot me.

To help move things forward, I think I need some more story help.

Do we know that we're extraordinarily powerful?

Or are we not yet powerful, but about to have a Sailor Moon transformation sequence?

You know you're super powerful -- sort of like Dragon Ball-Z/Pokemon.

I'm about to get the Krampus sleigh raiding party together to attack the inn you're at -- I work weekend shift at a medical lab, and there are a LOT of stats I'm getting together -- so it may take till Monday for me to post the attack group to start combat.

Ok, great. I thought we might have to go looking for trouble.

;-)

"Dragon Ball Z/Pokemon"...so Gokizard, Blasticcolo, Pidgeunks, Bulmasaur, Vikachuta?

Pretty much!

And just realized I never completed anyone's spell books. Crap.

Sorry to delay the start of combat there!

For future, I'm always happy to have you make rolls on my behalf, if you know they're needed (e.g. Initiative, Perception, Saves). If I see something you've missed, I'll let you know, but I find that helps games move faster, if it works for you.

I'm working on a stat bar to make that easier now.

...And Happy New Year, everyone!

Will post shortly--the dinner bell is tolling. My statblocks are all over the place at the moment. Should have typed them out pre buffs just to have them available for moments like this. Snowflake's AC and Saves are lower than what is stated at the moment, but I need to figure out what is not active at the moment (i.e. there are "all day" buffs like mage armor that are just automatic things in the morning at this point).

Hmmm, I'm working on a post too. Oy!

Tinsel, thanks for putting out numbers. With your indulgence, I just changed them to match the # order of the profiles DM listed.

Also, Seb, you gave stats for 3 non-boss ettins, but only put 2 on the map. I added a third. If that's wrong, please remove.

I think it's worth taking a step back here.

Assume for the moment that the Boss has a CL 48 Intelligent Item that can cast Dimension Door at will. (I have one--admittedly at a far lower CL--that can cast either D.Door or Heal every round).

If he had that--and you could certainly hand-waive him doing so--he can appear on top of the tables North of Kuchen, and from there--with his 60' reach--hit every PC.

Alternately, he can use this round to turn to mist and come in 20'. He can spend next round getting into a good position, and can turn back to regular size on round 3. That lets him start full attacking by round 4, at the latest.

It looks like he gets 300 attacks. Without power attack or other feats, his ave dam is 54/hit. That's an average of 16,200 damage / round. Let's say only 1/2 of those strikes hit, and he divides the remaining 8,100 damage between our 7 heros (including entourage). That's over 1000 damage each.

I--and likely all of us--have some defenses that can help us overcome a bit of that...but likely not enough of it.

Seb, is that your intent, or is he oversized for this encounter? It looks like our options are to flee or die, though in character I'm not sure we'd realize that. (I think the only clue before he starts killing might be that our Knowledge rolls to identify him come up blank.)

Snow: 435/435hp AC 64/flat 45/touch 45 Fort+32, Ref+30, Wil+24; Fox: 244/244hp AC 42/flat 21/touch 32 Fort+19, Ref+18, Wil+21; Pepp: 346/346hp AC 32/flat 19/touch 21 Fort+22, Ref+20, Wil+17

Yeah when I plotted out Snowflake's full round average damage (When fully buffed and polymorphed) it only comes out to ~500/rd if every single one of her 13 attacks hit. Peppermint when mounted can possibly get off ~400 damage. Mr. Foxerson is all about the summons so his is variable, but most likely much lower.

This boss could do 2 damage on every hit and still take out a character every round.

Keep in mind that if he comes in the room, he can share floor space with us as he is 3 sizes larger than everyone else in the room, but the roof will still be a problem for him. If he is standing up, then his head, shoulders and arms are all going to be sticking out the top of the building. He wouldn't be able to see in the building to do anything until he destroys enough of the roof to see through it.

As Kuchen said, I would have assumed he had some way of Dimension Door as a free action to get inside at that level (1000HD). Though he would still have problems standing up in there. I would have just D-door'd onto the roof and came crashing in if I needed to get close.

Really though, his level is beyond god like. Even adding in the 10 mythic tiers for all of us, I don't think we would survive the fight. We'd all resurrect the next day or sooner and could probably keep everyone alive long enough to kill all the mooks but succumb to the boss in the end.

Honestly, I thought the optimized characters would be able to do something like teleport out of the way, turn invisible/blur etc., and do a musical chairs rendition of raise dead to cover themselves, as well as do enough damage to kill him in a few rounds (I thought the damage output of the characters was going to be more in the 1,000 hit point range/round).

I would also think there were possibilities like casting dimension door or plane shift to get rid of the boss (or get the characters out of the way).

I just noticed all the Flame-Spawned creatures have this ability:

Fiery Aura(Ex): Fortitude save DC 21(+3 HD, +0 Racial, +8 Con, +0 Feat)
Anyone within 5 feet of a creature with fiery aura must succeed on a Fortitude save or take heat damage each round from the intense heat. The amount of damage equals the fire damage dealt by the creature's natural attack.

So, if everyone could roll for that if they got too close...

I need to alter a couple of things for this round, I see that I misunderstood Wintersparkles point as CL vs. CR -- so the Troll doesn't have a high enough CL to teleport the boss, and I need to come up with a different way to achieve the same effect -- as well as take into account the AoO.

The idea with the boss is that you have to think creatively to avoid being hit at all, because otherwise it's instant death.

That fire aura DC is way to low to really affect anyone from the mooks, but that boss DC is hard to ignore. Also keep in mind that the rest of the mooks are not immune to each others auras and they would get just as burned by the aura as anyone else would (unless they have a fire resistance/immunity).

I think we all have a way to play keep away from the boss and beyond his reach he is really hampered and can't do much. A couple of javelins is not going to cut it for damage and without his own means to fly to get us, he is in trouble. If he turns into the dire bat form (really bad idea) he is much worse off and looses most of his devastating attacks and all that armor and size advantage, then is subject to getting beat up in flying combat which some of us are really good at.

Forgot to note that Vampires cannot enter a private home or dwelling unless invited in by someone with the authority to do so. Mooks can't invite so I guess he couldn't even come in the building even if we figured out the D-Door or teleport to get him in there. Not sure if he is allowed to destroy the building as a means to get in. There is probably some rule about that.

From a creativity standpoint, if we just stay in the building, then he can't get to us. Worst case, I d-door outside above the building to safety.

I think designing for L20 gestalt characters with access to all 3p content is crazy tricky.

Looking at this first round,
1) I wonder if I'm over-optimized relative to the group, and need to tone anything down.

2) I suspect that a Boss will be more engaging if it's made a bit differently. In particular, having 1000 HD means it will never fail a save and we'll never pass a save vs any HD-related effect. I tend to find things more interesting if both success and failure are possible (e.g. Saves and DCs such that there's a low chance of success, instead of zero chance of success)

Perhaps have us fight more mooks (even having more filter in each round, if you'd like)? To get a sense of our limits first?

Or choose some of these high-CR PF monsters to add in? Then adjust up or down, based on how it goes, to get to an interesting challenge?

I can wait for it to roll a 1 on a save. but that doesn't kill him...

Did we break the DM? Anyone still home?

I'm still here -- just a helpful note - I work 3rd shift hours on the weekend at a medical lab, so I find it pretty hard to post on the weekends.

I'm thinking about replacing the boss with a hecatoncaires from 3.0 Epic. I'll try to post something this evening.

@Sebecloki Is work keeping you from posting still? Nothing in 10 days leads me to believe this campaign is over.

Christmas is over

Just messaged with Seb. He's still up for it, but been slammed. Says he'll get something up soon.

I think what we should do is just move ahead to the battlemap that inspired this and do a bloodbath for a few weeks and call it a wrap.

I'm not really sure how to deal with the current fight, so we're just going to skip ahead to the Krampus Lair.

HERE is the Krampus Lair; tell me all the buffs etc. you're going to use and how you're going to approach and we'll go from there.

Does anyone have a cohort who plans to cast Haste? I have a Wand of Haste with 50 charges and I'm happy to have it used on as many of us as it can be, as often as is possible. If you have a wand-wielding cohort who wants to hold it, they should feel free.

If noone plans to cast it at the start of encounters, I can cast it periodically from my wand. It'll only last 5 rounds / casting...but we've got 50 charges.

Also, I have a Wand of Echolocation. It's a Personal range so I can't cast it on others, but if you have UMD you're welcome to cast it before entering.

Finally, I'll have added each of you to my Collective. That means we can all communicate telepathically, and it lets me cancel (and/or absorb) some of each HP damage that you take, and/or defend you from a distance in other ways.

I was debating between eternal haste or eternal displacement (Alchemist's eternal potion discovery); if you're going to handle spamming haste, then I'll plan to use displacement instead.

I was going to try to post tonight, but internet has been screwy and now I need sleep since it's almost 3 my time.

I'm going to work a bit on the map -- I need to know if anyone is doing stealth activities/stealth effects in place to decide if the sentries detect your approach

I'm not stealthy at all and being only 100' up is probably less than a +14 distance mod to add to their perception to see me depending on how far they are looking.

Does anyone else have any stealth options?

I'm removing this game from my feed reader at this point as I consider this game over.

Thanks Sebecloki for running it, even if briefly. Thanks to the rest of the players for joining and hope to see you all in other games.

I'm sorry I think I overcommitted in terms of DM time and didn't appropriately take into account how difficult running a game at this level would be. I'd like to make it up by offering a space in one of my other games or run something else if there's an agreement about some dream scenario no one has had the chance to do yet. Let me know.

Thanks Seb. I totally understand, and I had fun building Kuchen at any rate.

Cheers to all!

please deactivate the game. Thanks for the invite to other games, but they're all kinda "special" :D
