If the tageted admixture is up, she will target the demon; otherwise, she will target the clockwork nearest her.

  • - to hit ranged touch, long range: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 - 2 = 14 (ignore allies in splash due to Precise Bombs)
  • - damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 1) + 5 = 7 (catch fire from Explosive Bomb, 10' radius 7 damage splash, DC 15 Reflex save for half splash damage)
+4 damage if targeted admixture working but no splash.

    What crappy rolls.

  • Survivor's Salvation

The targeted effect would have worn off by this time, so I'll target the clockwork.

    Red Reflex vs. splash: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
    Schir Reflex vs. splash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

The bomb crashes into the clockwork servant, and the flames catch on something among its joints. The one on the other side of the steps dodges most of the fiery explosion, as does the schir, although the demon is completely unaffected by even the flames that do wash over it.

Something whirs around inside the clockwork servant that received the direct hit and it singed limbs repair themselves slightly, but the fire continues to smolder. It moves forward and shoots a net out of a socket in its shoulder, down at Yanda on the level below.

    Burn: 1d6 ⇒ 2
    Net vs. Yanda touch AC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

The net lands harmlessly on the ground nearby. The schir meanwhile charges directly forward and swings its halberd at Balin.

    Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Its enthusiasm is stronger than its sense of aim, and the weapon merely whooshes through the air. Drops of spittle fly off to the side.

Kahwen knows he's not going to get anything done against these creatures from where he is. Nor is he going to be much help if he lines up in a row with the others.

Instead he has to get behind their opponents.

To that end, he darts up next to Balin, twisting nimbly to avoid that halberd. Then, insanely, the continues that twist to squeeze past the demon, coming very close to touching the thing.

    Acrobatics to Avoid AoO: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25
    Acrobatics to Move Through: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16

The first move is impressive. The second, not so much and he ends up back where he started but not before having a halberd coming at him.

I'm assuming the first Acrobatics check was a success and the second a failure, so that provokes and I "lose the move action." Kind of a weird rule but I guess that means I don't move?

    Survivor's Salvation

That's how I understand it as well, Kahwen.

    Slashing damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

It's a bold move, but Kahwen trips at the last moment and the schir knocks him back where he started with a blow of the halberd. The other clockwork servant grinds a few of its gears to start internal repairs, and then moves up to attack the first enemy it sees before it.

    Survivor's Salvation

Balin's strike slices deeply into the demon, and it hisses in pain. Yanda follows up with a well-aimed bomb that explodes on the schir. Unfortunately, the fire washes over its tough hide and doesn't seem to have any effect. Its fur catches fire, only serving to increase its menace as it ignores the flames completely.

The net wraps itself around Balin, tangling his arms and feet. Balin is entangled as described here but can get out with a full-round action Escape Artist or Strength check.

    Survivor's Salvation

Kahwen starts feeling a little queasy. He's not sure what nastiness was on that halberd, but it wasn't good.

    Disease details:

Kahwen has contracted Gray Pox. There are no immediate penalties because it has an onset of 1 day. After that the save frequency is 1/day, 2 consecutive saves cure, but a failure results in 1d6 Strength damage.

He shakes off the feeling and vaults up the ledge, just barely managing to pull himself up and sneak around behind the clockwork servant. His blade sends clockwork parts flying.

Thadeaus again misses with his crossbow, but Ash sends a magic missile to assault one of the clockworks. The two clockwork servants are actually equidistant, so I'll send your attack to the red one.

Suddenly a wave of emotion ripples through all the demons in the room. Looking up, you see that many of them have already fallen beneath the blades and arrows of your fellow Pathfinders. The schir in your midst looks less certain than he did moments ago. He gains the shaken condition.

The red clockwork creature that has just been attacked from behind clicks some gears in self-repair, and then reaches two of its arms inside its own structure to do some extra manual repair. This does not provoke an attack of opportunity.

-24 HP, Balin? You only took 7 points of damage.

Seeing the demon is not long for the material plane, Kahwen takes a rather circuitous route to avoid giving it a chance to attack him. He rushes across the stairs, then across, then drops down to the lower level before attacking the remaining clockwork. (I put an X where he crosses to.)

    Elven Curve Blade plus Flanking minus Fighting Defensively (Crane Stance): 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 10 + 2 - 2 = 20
    Slashing plus Sneak Attack plus Dirty Fighter: 1d10 + 9 + 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 9 + (6, 2) + 1 = 25

And I forgot to do it last time, but if it's a hit, I use Debilitating strike so he is at a -2 to attack anyone and a -4 total to attack Kahwen.

AC is 25 this round but only 2 more rounds of Crane Stance, left.

    Survivor's Salvation

Balin, I assume you mean you have 24 damage? That sounds right.

Ash continues to chip away at the remaining clockwork. (Is that a wand of natural 1s? I feel your pain on those rolls.)

Kahwen creeps around the top of the steps and drops down right behind it, bringing his sword down in a perfectly-placed strike that slices right through its torso from the top down. The rest of it immediately falls apart and each individual gear and piece of machinery drops to the floor with a clatter.

Esmeralda, you have the same disease as Kahwen. Copied here for reference.

    Gray pox:
There are no immediate penalties because the gray pox has an onset of 1 day. After that the DC 14 save frequency is 1/day, cured by 2 consecutive saves, but a failure results in 1d6 Strength damage.

Esmeralda retaliates with a vicious slicing attack. The demon's tough hide resists some of the damage, but even so it can't hold itself up any longer and it falls, still tangled up in the scarf. The schir has been defeated!

You look around to see that many of the other groups are also taking down their demonic aggressors. The tide of the combat is gradually shifting.

Venture Lieutenant, Play by Post (online)

The strange device around the demon overlord’s neck pulses with angry green light, its vein-like circuitry illuminating the entire chamber. With a thunderous crack and a blinding flash, a wave of crackling energy bursts from the relic, freezing anything it touches in mid-stride. In the span of several heartbeats, the entire room is locked in stasis. As the combatants stand helpless, the room’s features slowly rebuild themselves as though decaying in reverse. Ghostly figures— dwarves, demons, duergar, and more—flit about the room at incredible speeds, sometimes slowing to speak to one another as if playing out brief scenes from an eclectic play. All the while, frozen Pathfinders and demons who were fighting only moments ago begin to wink out of existence. As the chamber reaches its pristine state, duergar apparitions appear fighting dwarven images, and a slain king rises from death to stand before a stone throne. The room brightens as illuminated torches fill once empty sconces, and the immobile Pathfinders begin to move once more.

The king glowers and shouts from his throne as his honor guard level halberds toward you. ”What is this? What devilish trick sullies the throne room of King Gutheran of Jormurdun? Where are the rest of my soldiers? Where are the duergar who invade my citadel?”

Briefly taken aback, Master of Scrolls Kreighton Shaine quickly recovers and asks, ”You are Gutheran the Bold?” The dwarf receives the question and sputters at the elf’s audaciousness. Shaine quickly bows and continues. “Your majesty, forgive our intrusion. Some sorcery has transposed our forms into an alternate configuration in temporal space, which is to say we are seeing your time, or you are seeing ours. I am Kreighton Shaine of the Pathfin—”

Angrily perplexed, the dwarven monarch cuts off the Master of Scrolls’s explanation. ”Speak sense, elf! By Torag’s knucklebones, can no one here tell me what in the seventh hell has happened?”

King Gutheran appears quite mollified by Balin's respectful address, and he calms down to listen to Thadeaus's words. He nods slowly. "I know not what Pathfinders are, or what demons you speak of, but it seems circumstances have brought me the enemy of my enemy. You have come at a difficult time. The duergar have breached our defenses, and despite our bravest efforts, they are winning Jormurdun. I have sent my heirs from this dying place to forge a new future for our people, that they might one day return and claim these halls as their own. Some have stayed behind out of duty or out of love for their homes. I do not know if the duergar or some worse threat still plague the citadel. Slay my enemies, but spare my people; they are the only legacy left to Jormurdun. If a dwarf should trouble you, inform them that you travel with King Gutheran's blessing."

Kreighton Shaine has been off to the side hastily writing notes on sheets of paper. At this point he looks up and says, "Thank you, your majesty. Pathfinders, I've studied our surroundings and can conclude that whatever has shifted our place in time is unstable and cannot last. We have perhaps an hour—maybe two—before it collapses, and when that happens, I think it wise that we not be inside. Make your way back to the Grand Cathedral in a timely fashion. But..." he trails off while gazing at the beautiful throne room. "We can't ignore this splendid opportunity to explore Jormurdun as it was thousands of years ago! Retrace the steps you took to get here, see what has changed, and document what you see. I've been able to record brief instructions based on what I have already learned of your earlier discoveries. Be wise, be brave, and make haste!"

As a side effect of the time shift, some of your expended powers and class abilities are once again available as if they have not been expended for the day. Each of you can choose two of the following benefits, and the same benefit can be selected twice to double its effects.

    * Recover one or more spells whose total levels are equal to your character level.
    * Regain one daily use of a class feature. If you would normally be able to use the feature five or more times in one day, instead regain two uses.
    * Heal 1d2 points of damage to all ability scores.
    * Heal 1d8 hit points. Add your character level to the number of hit points recovered.

We also still have an aid token, and you can use that as before.

I have added three handouts to the slides, corresponding to the Armorer's, Miner's, and Monument districts. You can also choose to go the Seer's and Temple districts, but you will probably be at a disadvantage since you didn't see them on the way in. I'll copy the instructions here as well. Just let me know where you'd like to go first. The time pressure is a real thing, so we won't have a lot of time to linger.

    Armorer’s District Tasks:

We must discover the secret of Jormurdun’s fabled forges. If you happen upon any of its blacksmiths, persuade them to share their technique. We have also heard reports of shrines to Ghrode, a shadowy entity who acts as something of a bogeyman to craftspeople. Retrieve one of the offerings left for it, and we shall use that to study the cult further.

    Miner’s District Tasks:

Based on our interrogation of the captured duergar and Pathfinder reports of a freshly dug hole in the mining tunnels, we have concocted an audacious plan. Along with this message I have provided you a magical device—a trap of sorts—called a “digger’s travail”. Carefully place this where you observed the duergar will tunnel into the mines prior to their attack on us, then arm the device. Be careful, though; these devices are somewhat infamous for their volatility. Also, give what aid you can to Jormurdun’s miners who may not have received the message to evacuate.

    Monument District Tasks:

First and foremost, avoid harming any subjects loyal to King Gutheran. We are their guests here.

In our time, the plaza known as the Brothers’ Arches was too damaged to study in detail. When passing through that area, take time to note if the ages wore away any rune work from these masterful monuments, and record what you find. In the Hall of Hounds there stood a statue once fitted with gems for eyes, but they were gone by our time. Since we know they’re going to get removed, I’d rather we were the ones removing them, for the sake of posterity and research. Make it happen.

Kahwen is absolutely fascinated by everything that passes, including just how impressive Thadeaus eloquence is. He looks around at the rejuvenated citadel with all it's wonders and again bounces on his heels in excitement.

"That bull boar thing must have been Ghrode! Maybe we can find out what he really does if we go to the Armorer's District again!"

"Or...or...we could go steal the shiny, shiny gems. I mean, it's for the good of the Society and the people here aren't going to miss them and...and...they're probably shiny..."

The time dilation, if it's had no other affect seems to have truly invigorated Kahwen.

    Monument District it is!

You pass back out through the throne room door, to find that the large room on the other side is dramatically different. The ravages of time erased, this grand hall sweeps open before you. A gigantic archway is formed by the arms of enormous twin statues, each proudly holding a hammer aloft. Other smaller statues stand at attention, firm and resolute, painted in lifelike detail. A pool of cool water fills the center of the chamber, lit by mirror-reflected sunlight cast through skylights cleverly carved into the ceiling. You can see now why this place was known as the Brothers' Arches.

New map is added to the slides. You can review the handout there as well if you need a refresher of what you're supposed to be doing.
