Looking ahead to 3rd level, I'm wondering if Emil could take the Boon Companion feat even though he does not yet have an animal companion. When he gets to 4th level, he will get an animal companion from his Animal Domain. That ability sets the druid level for the animal companion level at 1st level (cleric level -3). If he had the boon companion feat, he would start with a 4th level companion and that would mean the lynx might be a candidate.

This assumes the lynx is still friendly and following Emil and that the creature represents a 4th level lynx companion, which matches the size level of a lynx, which would otherwise be small.

I'd love a lynx as an animal companion and it would be more fun to have one that grows into the role instead of just having one magically show up when Emil gets to 4th level.

I have no problem with that Father Emil.

Ok, thanks for that Caspan. Let's say you can get 3 tents from each bolt if it is all just used for tents, so that would 9 tents from all of that material in total.

So two tents have been made out of enough cloth for 9 total (plus we have one tent in our loot list). Enough cloth for two tents was lost by the bad rolls the other day, which means there's still enough cloth to make 5 more as time allows.

OK, those were some successful rolls. I did a little less hunting/foraging, since we knew we'd be hunting boars (though I'd have badly misjudged if we hadn't found all the smoked meats). One person will have had to sleep outside, unless someone(s) could use the shack itself? Not sure how bad its condition actually was. GM?

Alright, to the caves!

We've got a few days of marching through the woods and the next three days are going to pass without any encounters. I need to know your watch order for the nights however, something may happen then ;)

Hmm. My suggestions, based in part that I think Caspan and Emil aren't going to become fast friends (which is a dynamic I'm liking):

First: Caspan and Wren (pairs a melee combatant and spellcaster)
Second: Selde and Jillian (have the best potential to see in the dark)
Third: Emil and Thael (Emil can be more of a melee combatant)

That's just a suggestion, though. Feel free to offer other suggestions if folks want.

Also, GM, let me know when you want me to do rolls for daily activities.

Wow, we're getting good at this. I don't think we have anyone sleeping outside anymore. We also gained food for a couple days before using up a bunch the last day. However, we've gotten more sheep so that's boosting our PP and I think I'm going to move most of those folk to foraging. Barring some new setback, I think we've mastered outdoor living. :)

Another idea: We could move some folks to work on crafting if we wanted to. We could do alchemical stuff (though it might be best to have Thael do that), or possibly weapons (Kining).

Hurray for leveling!!! Woo!

I'll go ahead and roll the influence check here. Though this may prove to be a bad idea if Emil is right, the only NPC I've really talked to much is Edran, and he's also the only non-divine spellcaster in the group. So I'll go ahead and try to improve him. I'm adding +2 from Unbreakable Survivor trait, which allows me to add bonuses to the check. However, it's for residents of Phaendar...Edran may not have been a resident for long enough to count. If that's the case, remove 2 from my roll.

Rams are on the ascendent, a young team with a young coach, so I expect better from them in the future. This game reminded me of a baseball game where most of the innings are scoreless as the pitchers dominate the hitters. Way too many punts with no one even getting close to the red zones until the last. Stranger still is that the Rams usually score more than 30 points a game and also usually allow more than 30 points a game. So to have their offense get nowhere while the defense was so effective was unexpected.

Portrait Male Human Cleric of Erastil 6 | hp: |

It won't take me long to level, but I'll have to do that later. I've mentioned the feat I want. The rest will be a few tweaks to BAB and a save or two and his channeling advances to 2d6, plus he will be able to cast 2nd level spells.

Is there someone who can enchant weapons? Emil would really like the Composite Bow +2 str, since he has strength 14 so he can take advantage of the extra damage. But he'd also like the magic and accuracy and damage bonus from the +1 longbow. If someone could enchant the composite bow, he could take that and someone else can have the +1 longbow.

I was actually at the first super bowl the Pats won after that 2001 season. Had a buddy in New Orleans who was tight with the Saints legal department. Got face value tickets in the fifth row of the end zone. Opposite end zone of where the kicker hit the FG to win. It was just a wonderful experience. The guy and his kid sitting next to my group said they paid 5k per ticket (and this was 17 years ago)!!!!!! Only Super Bowl I’ve ever attended. It was the post 9-11 super bowl and U2 put on a great halftime show. Security lines were like 90 minutes to get into the stadium!

Super happy to level. I’ve got a ton of court prep to do tonight, so it might be tomorrow before Wren gets leveled.

Trying to decide who I want to influence (that said, if someone doesn't have a particular person in mind, you may want to look at who's getting +2 to the tasks I have them set to. If they get a level, they could get a rank in a relevant skill presumably) before I do my post.

Will try to level up later today. Mostly I have to figure out what feat I want to take.

Aubrin is not available to be promoted, everyone else is available.

Promotions allow NPC's to retrain classes or increase skills in their current ones.. So, if you promote a commoner they can retrain into adepts, aristocrats, experts or warriors.

Adepts gain 3 HP + Heal, Knowledge Religion and Spellcraft.
Aristocrats gain 4 HP + Knowledge History/Local/Nobility, Sense Motive, Survival
Experts gain 4 HP + Craft (any two), Knowledge Dungeoneering/Engineering/Geography, Profession (one), Stealth, Survival
Warriors gain 6HP + Handle Animal

Looks like Sofia would be a good match for Wren withher being an orchard tender and all. She will be my target when I get around to the influencing and levelling.

Just for quick reference for Thael and Emil that still need to do their promotions. These are the survivors that have already been targeted by the group:

Lirosa/Taidel
Soria
Kining
Skyler

Question about the Hemlock Banner. I was assuming it was a larger stationary type banner that would be hung in the caves, if we ever got there. Jillian pointed out it might be more of a mobile banner that was can taken with us. Could we get more details on it?

TG1 | GW | FF | RH

Sure. Think of it as a standard instead of a banner if that helps. Here's a picture of it.

The descriptions states it functions as a Cavalier's Banner ability:

Banner (Ex)
At 5th level, a cavalier’s banner becomes a symbol of inspiration to his allies and companions. As long as the cavalier’s banner is clearly visible, all allies within 60 feet receive a +2 morale bonus on saving throws against fear and a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls made as part of a charge. At 10th level, and every five levels thereafter, these bonuses increase by +1. The banner must be at least Small or larger and must be carried or displayed by the cavalier or his mount to function.

So clarification on the promotions:

1) If they are already a class (Warrior 1 for example) does the promotion level them up to Warrior 2?

2) If they are retraining (starting as Commoner 1 for example) do they retrain to Warrior 1 or Warrior 2?

3) Do they have to retrain or can they just add another class ie if they were commoner 1 can they then become commoner 1/warrior 1?

Maybe if there is a specific section of rules on the whole promotion thing we can see that could be helpful.

EDIT: As a side note, I can create a hero lab file with all of the NPC survivors so we can be sure to track/adjust the levels properly. Then maybe the GM can add them in a spoiler on the campaign info page for quick reference?

TG1 | GW | FF | RH

1) Yes.
2) Warrior 1.
3) If you are a commoner you must retrain and drop commoner.
4) There isn't much at all in the book, it's only 1 paragraph. Here it is:

Over the course of this adventure, the PCs will gain promotions they can assign the NPCs of their choice. A promotion allows an NPC to retrain to another NPC class (most often allowing Commoners to retrain into Adepts, Aristocrats, Experts, or Warriors), or to gain a level in their current class. An NPC cannot retrain into a base class unless a PC specifically selects that character as a companion with options such as the Leadership feat. An NPC cannot be promoted to be higher level than the PCs.

5) Sure, I can add anything you want into the header.

Ok, you guys had some serious influential impact on your group. Here are the outcomes of your effort:

Selde: 4 Promotions
Wren: 4 Promotions
Caspan: 3 Promotions
Jillian: 5 Promotions

Please choose who you are influencing and what class and then adjust the survivor sheet accordingly. Father Emil and Thael still need a promotion check as well.

Dang, we got WAY more promotions than I expected! :) Since Jillian's doing warriors, in addition to Kining, I'll focus on our aristocrat (Ionela) and one of our experts, Amaliel, who managed to ruin some of the tent cloth we really needed (using my same tough love approach as I used with Kining).

Note: I shaded the class field of the three I promoted on the spreadsheet. I figure that'll let us more easily see who's already been handled and make it easier to avoid accidental duplication.

I'd suggest someone (Thael and/or Emil?, both of whom I think would make sense) level up Rhyna and our other adepts. That could be important maybe down the road since they have spellcasting? Someone may also want to make sure to advance Jet, but I didn't think Caspan would be the right choice to do that.

Do we just add the HP and Skill you have listed previously IE a Warrior 1 that goes to Warrior 2 would be 12 HP Handle Animal +5 (from the previous 6 HP, Handle Animal +4)?

Female Halfling | Psychic (Faith) 8 | AC (17 with Mage Armor)14/13/12| HP 49/49 | Init.+4 | Perc.+14 | CMD 14 |F+5, R+6 W+10(+2 vs Fear) | SenseMotive+6 | Phrenic Pool 6 points/day

So, Wren got

1. Soria.

If it’s cool with everyone else, she will also speak with,

2. Jet,
3. Austyn, and
4. Drulus.

If those are spoken for, just give her a name at random.

"I'll go ahead and roll the influence check here. If that's the case, remove 2 from my roll.

diplomacy (unbreakable survivor): 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 2 = 20

Everyone's waiting on my influence roll, but I was actually the first one to say anything. :) I had asked if I could train Edran further. I thought it might make sense, since he's the only other arcane spellcaster.

If I can't train him because he already has a class, I'll go ahead and try one of the adepts. Let me know...

If I train an adept, can they ever learn to cast spells? Are any of them more arcane-oriented?

Let's go ahead and bump Lirosa and Taidel to Lv 2 warriors. Then let's go with Cyne Nemma and Steff Moss to change to Warriors.

We need Warriors but we definitely want to level up our Adepts and Experts. Increasing their numbers isn't a bad idea either.

You are able to influence Edran if you like, but he can't increase his existing class much the same way Aubrin can't. You could have him gain a level of something else or you just might be better off influencing some of the commoners instead.

With 5/6 done, I'll go ahead and start the next gameplay post to move on. Father Emil can post his when he returns.

Also, it looks like a few of you still need to update your status bars for level 3, please update those too.

Okay, I'll go ahead and apply my roll to Rhyna, if that's alright (rolled a 20 with modifiers).

Sure thing. A 20 is equal to 4 promotions! You guys definitely saved your good rolls for this one, wow!

Congrats on another level passed, another notch in the book. We're about to start part 3 of the book very, very soon. There are 4 parts total which means we're cresting past the halfway point. It's only been a few days past two months since we've started, and we worked through the hardest holidays of the year on top of that.

If we keep this pace, we should be able wrap the first book before May. My best previous run through a full book of an AP was 12 months and we're looking to cut that by more than half.

One of my friends told me his Ironfang group fell apart after nine months, so out of curiosity I checked his thread. They finished the ambush hobogblin encounter we just finished, but they only had 9 pages of gameplay posts (We have 21!) and it took them 9 months of playing (We have played 2) to get that far. I'd classify that pace as a typical PbP game which makes you all extraordinary.

Once again, bravo, thank you for your commitment!

Portrait Male Human Cleric of Erastil 6 | hp: |

I've leveled Emil to 3rd. I have a lot of work to do the rest of today, so 'bot Emil if need be. I'll make decisions on the leveling of the survivors based on Emil's diplomacy roll (in the Gameplay thread). I'll add whatever info you need on the promotions once I know how many he was able to affect. The first two are adepts, so I assume they'll level up as adepts. The others are commoners so let me know if he affects any of them and I'll decide on the NPC class to promote them to.

Edit: I've set Emil's prepared spells for the day, listed on his profile.

I'm very excited about this game, and look forward to posting in it.

Again, the lion's share of the glory goes to our illustrious GM Shadowlord. If any spots open in any of your other games, or if you run anything when they close, I'd love to be considered. You're absolutely fantastic! :)
