Crane Wing and "aware of attack"

Rules Questions

if im facing 3 enemies, and one moves behind me (which i see him do) and scores a hit, am i unable to deflect it with crane wing? am i "unaware of the attack" ?

there is no facing in this game, so there is no 'behind'.
it basically doesn't work if they are invisible/stealthing or it is dark/you are blind.

if you are merely aware of their presence (lower DC vs. invisible, or via scent or blindsense or tremorsense),
or pass a check to hear them in darkness but can't see them, that isn't enough because you aren't aware of the actual attack...
UNLESS an attack mode has an inherent auditory factor that you can perceive thru darkness/etc,
then that could plausibly count for being aware of the attack, but very very few attacks state that.
(some weapons make sounds when being used, e.g. from holes drilled in them resonating air flow...?)

No. You know he's there, you could see him pass and flank, you just cannot fully devote all of your attention to him. You're very well aware.

You should be able to deflect it, unless you're flat-footed and have yet to act. In that case, you wouldn't be in Crane Style to begin with.

You kind of amswered your own question. The thing to realize is there is no facing. Being un aware would be if he was invisible or you were surprised.

so looks like the general consensus is it would work.

i suppose if the DM rules otherwise its fine, but ill bring it up, thanks
! have been having some debate over my MOMS with crane/snake/dragon styles (levle 8)
