Yeah about a half hour. Winter is nearly here, so I'm taking longer now with the ice and snow.
It's nice, almost meditative. I like it much more than any other exercise.
GM Mort |
Be careful on ice and snow. Slippery and all that. Same reason why you'll never see me run down a muddy slope. You have boots with sufficient traction?
Also was busy with gift exchange ceremony yesterday and just did my half marathon. Timing was 2h 21 min and dunno how many seconds.
Not the best of runs(left knee started giving problems at 12km mark) but 2 weeks on vacation in Taiwan will do that to you - 100 burpees on alternate days does not substitute for running very well.
Half marathon post mortem:
-Lack of training
-Training routes for long distance runs were too flat(did not sufficiently prepare me for elevation increases). I can do short but sudden increases in elevation(since I run up the hill near my workplace for fun during lunch), but all those long, but gradual inclines and declines I think messed up with my knee.
-I started too fast. Should have known better to think I could keep ahead of the 2:15 group (I did manage till about 13 km mark) when my usual pace is around 6'45/km by using caffeine and during race adrenalin (you usually run faster during the race then your practice runs).
Garrosh Saurfang |
Man, you surely know how to keep yourself busy Mort :D
I hope the gift exchange ceremony went well, and mainly that you and your fiance enjoyed it.
As for the half marathon, I am not familiar with what should be an average time, but 2h21min seems pretty solid to me. Though... Be careful with the knees - knee injuries are THE crap to recover from. Better do your best to simply avoid them...
Bottom line, go easy with the training now for some time.
GM Mort |
He forgot to bring the 六礼 but brought the full set of candies (despite us only asking for half the varieties), so we're all good. A checklist on keep notes is really helpful to check who brought what and no items are missed out.
Finished eating the bananas, also yesterday I headed down to the restaurant to do the table arrangement for solemnization + tea ceremony + wedding lunch. Posted on the whatsapps group for wedding planning who's doing what and timetable for the day, but due to the solemnizer not being able to join us for lunch(she has to rush off to conduct another solemnization), the guest list will need to be amended.
I should bounce back pretty quickly but since my knees are still a bit dodgy(especially going down stairs), I've just scrapped plans to join local run group today and go swimming instead. I can't sit around and do nothing, you know. I'll get fat!
I tried running to catch the train, for short bursts like that, I'm still good to go.
I have been trying to avoid knee issues but it generally crops up everytime I do long runs (12k+). It's just how much I can delay the onset etc. I did do some stretching before but there was some waiting time in the holding pen.

Sorry was travelling for the past days - just arrived home.
Does Garrosh know what the ghost unicorn is exactly?
Garrosh Saurfang |
Not where but 'what' :D
Is it a spirit craving release? Is it a ghost? A haunt? Along those lines.
Garrosh Saurfang |
Wohoo! Enjoy :D
GM Mort |
Actually the food wasn't that great but I did have fun with the mocktail bar by filling my glass with all sorts of berries and fruits (so there's less room for syrup and soda water) and ate too many canapés for my own good. Drank 2 glasses of white wine, found the white wine better then the red (I generally prefer white wine anyway).
GM Mort |
In a quick lunch time climb(30 Min) , I did the following:
Green up, pink up, white up and down
Tried yellow but failed. I think I might have managed it was I fresh.
Garrosh Saurfang |
And what about having lunch? How do you manage time for it? :D
Piotr Tataru |
But lunch...
GM Mort |
I bring my own food to work, then microwave it. It tastes great and I've always hated queueing for food anyway.
Also from 22nd November to 25th November (GMT+8) I won't have time to check paizo boards due to pre-wedding admin and post wedding admin. No updates from me during those above dates.
Piotr Tataru |
If I have not said it... well even if I have, cause it deserves to be said more than once... CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
I bring my lunch, consider it for a few moments, then 50% of the time go out anyway.
GM Mort |
That's a waste of good food. What do you do if you don't eat your brought lunch? Also what does your brought lunch consist off? You'd save more time for work if you ate in, IMO.
Piotr Tataru |
I save them for the next day. 50% of the time means I normally do eat them the next day. Today I had left over stew and instead went out for a heaping filled with everything salad. Tomorrow I will eat my stew... maybe.
LEGO ROBOTICS COMPETITION SATURDAY!!!! the kids have been great this year, so I hope they do well.
Piotr Tataru |
They WON! Both the robot game and the robot design, woohoo RoboTroopers! I'm proud of them :)
game bits, E5 has a door going North doesn't it? Should we look there first?
GM Mort |
Congratulations! How many bananas or coconut cream pies were involved in the commands this time? ;)

I don't mind - just give directions what as a group you'd like to do.
Piotr Tataru |
LOL! None, they named their functions sensibly, but did change all the names of the attachments. They had the Pusher, the Slapper, and the Twig.
The kids were great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Much more focused this year.
Piotr Tataru |
!!!!!! Very Cool!
What is Solemnization?
GM Mort |
In the context of marriage, solemnization refers to the performance of a ceremony. Some jurisdictions in the United States may require solemnization in addition to a marriage license for there to be a legally valid marriage.
I think I twitched the last link so the photos should work. Let me know if otherwise.
Piotr Tataru |
Now I understand. Yes, if a priest marries you, then you have a ceremony here. If the justice of the peace does, you don't. So depends on what you want really.
Pictures!! Yes they are working now and are awesome!!!!
Congratulations Mort. Very Very Very much so.
Garrosh Saurfang |
BIG congrats Mort!!
The pictures look amazing, mainly the bride ;)
No funny business now - I hope you guys enjoyed yourselves, and the time with your family. Weddings can sometimes be stressful :P
Garrosh Saurfang |
Happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating it!
GM Mort |
Yeah I'm still trying to catch up with things, both work and meal prep wise, thanks for the congratulations. I have a fridge of chocolates to clear so I'm busy eating through them? ><
There was some slight overrun in timings for make up but was okay since we managed to do the tea ceremony faster then expected.
GM Mort |
Waiting for player input, even if it is to ignore the rat creatures. Do I have to constantly remind you about it?
Piotr Tataru |
Hi Mort! Only Garrosh can talk to them, so Piotr would just be standing and waiting. Hence the big pause. Piotr will post though.
Garrosh Saurfang |
Apologies guys. Work is hammering me hard...
GM Mort |
Eh..next time tell me about it? Though yeah getting married has gotten me busier too.
Piotr Tataru |
It usually does. But hopefully happier as well.
GM Mort |
Technically I'm still playing life on easy difficulty since my in laws are cooking my dinner, though it's gotten a bit harder since they insist I have to cook things up fresh everyday and cannot batch cook. I cook for my husband every morning - it alternates between an omlette with pork, onion and carrot, or stewed turnips with chicken. Last week's menu was an omlette with prawn and French beans and beef and mushroom.
Weekends are spent walking around playing orna, though I can't wait for the long steady distance run trainings to start again. I'm running to the rock climbing walls on Tuesdays and Thursdays to climb still, Monday, wed and Friday I hit the gym.
Piotr Tataru |
Easy mode isn't a bad thing is it? We got snow last night! Doesn't happen often here, so me and the kids were out until we were completely numb. School delay this morning so nice and slow.
Kilarra Dimir |
Hmph. Back in my day we didn't have snow delays. We had one snow day, ever, since I was a kid. Back then it snowed so much people were jumping outta their second story windows to get outside. My father and I spent the day building an igloo and snowmen. I was wrapped up in so many snow clothes that I was a lumbering inukshuk.
One day I was in the 5th grade, and it was so dang cold outside. -40 degrees, and it don't matter if you're using Celcius or Americain, cuz it's the same temperature. We kids stood outside before school started, freezin our tails off. It was a terrible day, but I'll never forget those damn teachers for keepin the doors closed when your eyes are ready to freeze like icicles.
Garrosh Saurfang |
Hmmmm Mort, omelet with pork :D
So you are living close to your inlaws now?
Awwww man! We've been having a few threats of snow on my neck of the woods, but nothing so far. No need for freezing eyeballs, just some snow :D
GM Mort |
I'm living with my in laws now actually. And last nights cold weather sent me huddling into my blankets. As expected lol. I have serious cold vulnerability.
GM Mort |
BTW areas like D6, some areas south of C1, east of C1 remain unexplored but since no indication was made to explore them they remain covered under fog of war.
Piotr Tataru |
Canada and the southern United States have different cold threshold, good treasure :)
Do you like your in laws Mort? I... um don't think I could live with mine. Not more than a few days, and then I'd be an irritable snapping butt head.

Nowadays I think Winter wear has become less thick but still warm, or does it only work for not too sub zero temperatures?
Kilarra Dimir |
That might get you into -10. I can't imagine walking around in that in lower temperatures though. Not for any length of time, at least. If it's -30 outside, I'm wearing a long-sleeved shirt, a sweater/hoodie, and my bulky duck-down jacket. I have a hat that covers my ears, a hood, and a scarf. I'll wear sunglasses, something to go over my mouth/nose, and two pairs of gloves. I'll also be wearing sweatpants or long johns under my jeans, and I may even wear snow pants depending on what I'm doing. I'll wear thick wool socks, and waterproof, insulated boots with a good grip to them.
If it gets worse than -40, which is quite rare, I give up. My buddies and I were joking the other day that if there's a house fire during such a time, we might just stay really close to the house to stay warm.
People might wear less if they're going from house, to car, to house/office. I don't have a car, and I'd be worried about being stranded in the cold if something bad happened. In those temperatures, we don't have much in the way of snow, but everything is covered in ice. Some of it is called Black Ice, with is a patch of ice on the road that you can't see.
And I live not far from the border of Canada and the US. I can't imagine what it's like for people living in the northern provinces, and I've heard that the winters in Nova Scotia and coastal Quebec are terrible as well.
But as a consequence, I can barely stand 30 degrees in dry conditions. I remember being in the province of Ontario, which is much more humid, and it was only 20 degrees. All I wanted was to somehow exist in a constant ice-bath. It was awful.
GM Mort |

Not enough proteins in their meals(rather carb heavy) and they don't allow me to batch cook because they say reheated food is bad but otherwise I'm fine.
GM Mort |
I've heard black ice is very dangerous because you don't see it coming. And is slippery as fk (like algae on rocks). I know someone who's running in 2 degree Celsius weather so I'm like what the hell? But people say it's easier to run in cold weather then not weather. Anyway I'm taking notes for cold weather survival in case I need to use it.
Like the last time a navy friend of mine was telling us how to jump from a height into deep water. Fold arms over shoulders, crossed, then step off the board, hit water with your feet. Used it in a water theme park then cussed because she didn't tell us how to find the right direction up and out of the water.
Piotr Tataru |
I should have noticed he hadn't complained about, well, everything in a bit :)
