EM - [PFS] Occasional Demons

Game Master Evil Minion

A series of 6 PFS scenarios... all set on the edges, and often inside, of the demon-infested Worldwound!

I remember once, a number of years back, reading the effect that Floria ran afoul of, and thinking that it made for good flavor, but would never actually come up in any sort of playing session.

Fast forward to here... and suddenly it does! Who knew.

Ah well... good RP fuel, I suppose! =)

(I admit to getting a lot of mileage out of Floria's backstory during these scenarios.)

Hmm... need more interaction here, so we can move forward! =)

ball's in your court guys.

Sorry to delay things again - Do these presumably incorporeal creatures actually impede us? Cant we just walk straight through? I mean if they are going to harden? shift? enough to block our path surely we can attack back? Maybe I can lead with my weapon :P

Im winging it here. :)

Heh.

I pondered that when Huni was looking to tumble past there. But could find no rules that indicate incorporeal creatures work any different than corporeal ones in this regard.

And you can attack back. There's enough of them there to swing a sword at... just with less effectiveness.

Think that's why I described it more as Huni backing off to avoid a counterattack, then it physically pushing him back.

If its any consolation, I did readjust its CMD to use its non-existent strength, instead of charisma, like it normally would. So at least Huni had a 'chance' with his meager +2 bonus... but no such luck.

Curious what would happen to my Chain of Perdition if Kara becomes Fascinated (or otherwise mentally incapacitated) again. It clearly obeys my mental desires, but if I'm staring slackjawed and unable to form coherent thoughts, what does it do?

I imagine just sits there, looking cool.

The relevant bit for the scream is a different bullet point:
"Immunity to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects or is harmless)." Otherwise you'd be totally correct that nothing in the bit you quoted prevents your spell from working :-)

Oh, also, not sure if this'll come up, but knowing how it would work could help - what kind of rolls/actions would be required for someone to toss a prism up to Sangkip?

hmm... I supposed a ranged attack roll to get close, and a reflex save or the like from sankip to catch it.

Exact specifics are open for discussion.

So is the readied action to catch in place of the reflex save to do so?

No, both are in effect.

Ie: it takes you an action (we'll say a move equivalent) to do it, and said action involves the save.

edit: though, in retrospect, the DC I was giving it, means you only fail to catch something thrown near on a 1... so I'll wave the catching roll (will still take a move action), unless the throw is way off. =)

Jeeze... these last few single round summaries were awfully long.

I think I have a problem... 8P

Can one climb to the panels from where Alessio is? Or are the stairs all the way around the only way?

Trying to figure out the best way to be helpful. Either make my way to the panels to figure out the operation of the machine or deter the demon with sand bombs.

The stairs are pretty much it, without a very good and very slow climb check that I don't think you can make.

As you are probably guessing, we are approaching our (hopefully) dramatic conclusion... though some of the better dramatic options you've already nixed on me! Though I suppose I had a little karmic payback owed for Floria using her detect thoughts on the allips. =)

You will only be getting a single prestige point for this one, since you let Ollysta die. The other will depend on if the demon breaks through before you can turn the weapon on... neither a given at the moment.

And all this on Hard mode!

And, we're fast approaching page 50 for the Gameplay thread. Not bad!

Back from my surgery. It went better than we had expected. Now there's nothing but the healing.

There's a lot to read through. I've only looked at the last few posts and wonder if I should have stayed in the hospital. This is intense.

#1 glad everything went well

Where we are: Most of of the prisms are charged and placed in the machine. The only enemy threat is the most dangerous monster I've ever faced in the game, right over there. I'm trying to blind it so it doesn't chop anyone else in half. Sangkip and Alrik are firing up the cannon so we win.

Intense is more exciting! Pushovers are no fun at all.
We need to make Kara's 'Adventure' worth the words!

Glad to hear it all worked out well! As someone who's become all too familiar with hospital visits over the past year, its always good when there are no surprises. =)

Assuming three prisms are enough...

Well, if either (or both) get stunned, they won't be able to activate both switches. If either Sangkip or Huni fail the reflex save, they go in the pit, and again, can't activate buttons. If Alrik fails his fly check and has to move, or flies over to place the last crystal himself, he might be out of position to activate the switch or not have a standard available to do so.

And even blind, the demon still has a 50% chance of hitting someone (possibly sometwo) with all 6 attacks now on line... and likely killing them outright. =)

He has a set sequence of actions he takes... but it all goes to hell around now, and the blindness changed his options a little... ramping up things by a round. Once we get to round 10, its pretty much a complete loss for the good guys.

Lots of unknowns yet!

Adventure!

No! You're wrong. I'm the kind of guy that takes candy from babies and likes to push little kids around. I want adventures that are pushovers. They make me feel mighty.

Grand Lodge

So, as I understand it, Huni is no longer stunned. Need to roll a d10 to determine if he is effected by the gaze attack and a Will save if he is. Then there's a save against the pit. After all that, Huni can then walk over to the controls and hit activate and save the world. Do I have that right?

The pit save comes at the end of your turn typically.. .but given the need to pause and wait for coordination purposes... I shall require it before you push the button.

So check vs the gaze.
Then you can walk over to the other control.
Then you have to save vs the pit (with the +2 bonus for being on the slope)

Both buttons have to be pressed at the same time. So you need to coordinate the button pressing with however is on whichever one... so will be resolving the pit before that button press.

Possible Scenarios:
2 or three people stunned, you can't activate the machine this round. Demon gets another go, though blinded.

1 person stunned:
If Huni: likely drops in the pit, Alrik has to stay where he is, requiring a fly check, and you have to make do with just three prisms placed. Sangkip has to avoid sliding in the pit (Sangkip can avoid this by hopping up on the panel), then he and Alrik activate.

If Sangkip: Alrik again has to stay put (requiring fly check). Sangkip likely slides in the pit. Huni has to stay put (though can shift a square or two), has to avoid falling in the pit. Huni and Alrik activate.

If Alrik: Due to moving the try to place the 4th crystal. Have to make do with just three. Huni has to move to Alrik's side. Both Huni and Sangkip have to not fall in the pit (Sangkip can avoid this by hopping up on the panel). Huni and Sangkip activate.

0 persons stunned:
Alrik can fly over (fly check required) and place prism 4. Huni moves over to second switch. Huni and Sangkip try not to fall in the pit (Sangkip can avoid this by hopping up on the panel). Huni and Sangkip activate.

There's a lot of 'if then else' scenarios on this round. =)

In preparation for the next (and last) scenario (5.24 Assault on the Wound), there is some chronicle bookkeeping to check on... so figured I'd start that process a little early.

And as a reminder, the start of this one uses the Mass Combat rules, so we'll have to go over those a bit too.
Not sure how those will work over PbP, but hopefully we can streamline it a bit.

Good guess, one tribe of Mammoth Riders coming up!

Kind of rushed that descriptive stuff a bit... to get it out before I got caught up for the afternoon.

Already wanting to rewrite some of it! But too late to edit now. So you gets what you gets!
_____________

You only needed 17 charges to activate the weapon to its full effect (though it could still work partially with less)... well with +2 due to damage done by the wrecker demon... so 19 required for full effects.

You put in 32 ... plus Sangkip's UMD roll added 3 more. Twice as many as you needed, so had to add some extra Oomph to the description!

Was basically a slightly modified version of the Holy Word spell, bumped up to caster level 20 by your activation, but with a much greater area, and thankfully a little more lenient towards the Neutral types.

The suits just upped your effected level vs resisting said effects... Sangkip with none, Alessio fully protected, and Huni only partially protected due to suit damage. The full gamut of options.

Can those that have them, and can think of a way to use them... throw out a day job check or two, in preparation for chronicles.
Still a little ways off, just trying to get my demonic-ducks in a row.
