Yes Alrik will level up to 5 after this (thanks to the Gameday GM credit I allocated to him). Playing a Level 4 in a 6-7 tier is not much fun. I think that ghost could technically have one shot me (even without a crit)!

On a side note, despite being a Paladin I felt rather useless in this scenario. Incorporeal undead + patched together demon things that weren't evil plus flying eidolons. But maybe that was more a function of being an out of tier Level 4 character.

As to the rest... ya, only one thing to smite, and I played him as cleverly as I could within the described tactics (though intentionally kept away from him spontaneously healing himself ... as it was dragging on enough as it was).

As a side note, it was able to lure Alrik from the others (and only Alrik) due to Alrik being the one that used his name to open the secret door under the altar at the beginning (its the only way he learns anyone's name... and he needs a name to use the ability)

Still ghost minotaur with 5 cleric levels... that's 11 HD of unpleasantness.

Anyone need a evil cleric of an evil god for a faction goal? =)

Trust me, Alrik. This was the first time I've felt effective at all in combat. The scenarios swing a bit. We should shore up our gaps with magic items and what not. Happy to discuss tactical options as well.

Floria will also be levelling as she's done two scenarios at level 5 and had that one GM credit. I think she'll be grabbing an extra level 2 spell known via FCB and 1 level 3 spell in addition to her discipine spell of excruciating deformation, but I haven't decided what they will be yet.

I was planning on buying a Potion of Fly for emergencies. Hitting level 5 gives me the ability to self enchant my weapon so that's not a problem any more. A pity it cant be used to add Ghost Touch.

Speaking of - is there a way to add options to the list of abilities Paladin's can add to their weapon?

Thanks again for running, and for (barely!) not killing Floria.

In honour of her experience, she's had her armour enchanted with the deathless property to help her against negative energy in future.

For spells I went with Id Insinuation II at level 3 (which also allows her to cast Id Insinuation I with a 2nd level slot thanks to undercasting), and Hideous Laughter with her FCB spell.

She has also taken advantage of the psychic feature to swap out a spell at even levels to swap Aphasia for True Strike. In the absence of anything else to do against golems, now she can hit ocassionally with a crossbow!


Ah... good ol' Id Insinuation... the name brings back the old Advanced D&D days.

Just a note, that I should have mentioned earlier.

You did find, during this scenario:
scroll of perceive clues
scroll of heroism
scroll of break enchantment
scroll of cloudkill

Three of which would be available for Kara to scribe if she wanted (heroism (opposition), break enchantment, cloudkill)

And two of which would be usable by Alessio (perceive clues, heroism)

As well, in the case of Alessio's alembic there was
potion of cure moderate wounds
potion of cat's grace
potion of fox's cunning

And also, Kara, are you just buying the scrolls to have the scrolls? Or are you buying scrolls to scribe from? (If the later, there are cheaper ways to go about it)

Alessio prestige purchases of items are limited to "once per session", per the guild guide (page 22). I always understood that to mean once per scenario, so I think you could do one on this chronicle and one the next? Unless session means something else for play-by-post I suppose.

Kara continual flame has a 50GP material component so scrolls of it cost 200GP. Sorry to be a rules-lawyer today.

I didn't realise Id insinuation came from an older edition! I'm a noob as pathfinder was the first RPG I played. Ego whip looks underwhelming, but I'm eagerly anticipating "Explode Head" :)


Aye, one prestige purchase per session is true enough!
And Continual flame is 50gp per cast, and only one can persist across scenarios. Just things to be aware of.

Ah, good old Advanced D&D during the late 70's!

When elves, dwarves, and halflings were classes

Bards were druids, who had to go through 5 levels of fighter, and 5 levels of thief, first

And Psionics had its own appendix entry, giving anyone with a 16 in at least one of the mental stats, basically a 1-2% chance of having the ability.

They had 5 attack modes, and 5 defense modes.

The attack modes were Psionic Blast, Mind Thrust, Ego Whip, Id Insinuation, and um... Psychic Crush? something-Crush.

The defense modes included Intellect Fortress, Mind Blank, Tower of Iron Will, and 2 more I can't recall.

Nice to see them reusing these old names =)

It turns out, the scenario we're about to embark on (Weapon in the Rift) has an option to scale up the difficulty (that some refer to as 'hard mode')
No extra rewards of course, though there are boons out there that trigger off of these.

NOTE: You guys need to decide if you want to try the harder difficulty (has to be unanimous)

Kara, you can actually pay a small price to gain access to an NPC spellbook, for scribing purposes.

It adds an additional 50% to the normal scribing cost.
So to scribe a 1st level spell from an NPC's book, it would cost you a total of 15 gp (10 for normal scribing costs, plus half of 10 for access to the spell).
To learn a 2nd level spell (ie: continual flame), again, would be the cost of scribing it (40 gp) + half of that cost for access (20 gp)... so only 60 gp total (much better than the price of a 2nd level scroll + expensive material component + scribing cost (240gp))

Also, to revisit the earlier post about the scrolls you found, you can scribe spells that are too high for you to cast (assuming you can make the spellcraft roll), in case that was in doubt.

Groovy. So, two three level-2's and one level-1 transcribed, plus 50gp for Continual Flame pebble equals 245gp spent.

No, that doesn't sound right.

Level 2 = 40 (scribing) + 20 (access) = 60
Level 1 = 10 (scribing) + 5 (access) = 15

So 2 level 2's, 1 level 1, and the material component, would come out to 185 gp.

Unless you meant 3 level 2's, I guess. =)


Oh, and as a side note, all the rare cantrips you have in your book are not legal for PFS. None of the cantrips from that blog are (says so right in the blog!) (penumbra, scoop, breeze, jolt, drench, root)

I say we try for hard mode. This is tier 5-6 and the last one was 6-7, and half our characters have levelled

The funny thing is... in normal low tier, you'd have failed the diplomacy check on this fellow, and combat would be ensuing!

But, because you're in hard mode, I'm supposed to use the higher tier critter, which has a significantly lower charisma, thus the diplomacy DC is slightly less, and you succeed... barely (even with both aids).

Who knew hard mode would make something easier? =)
