Sometimes the decemvirate is just mysterious like that Regnum. It's kind of what you sign up for as pathfinders. "Pathfinder members often shrug off strange orders from above as simply the "will of the Ten". Nevertheless, members of the Society are sworn to absolutely obey the will of the Decemvirate, or risk expulsion or an even darker fate"

In other news, Barm is waiting to open the secret door. Is everyone ready? No pre-enter-the-room actions?
000dafi03
|
Well, 50 minutes as long as you concentrate on it (standard action), but I'll assume you do that unless we are in combat.

That is how he would have reacted seeing someone in and take a compaion that explored many levels of the tower together away..... Not questioning anything, just a bit of RP in this combat heavy enviorment.
Saint Gudule
|
oh, wow. ok...
Saint Gudule looks at the scene with a weird expression. He chooses to shrug eventually.
"Yup, go on with the door, Barm."
000dafi03

I figured Regnum, just giving some background on the Decemvirate, because I honestly didn't know much about them.
You find no traps, so you open the door.
Double doors stand in the south wall of this huge temple. On the left and right of the door are six alcoves, some empty and some with rough bedding on the floor. In the center of the main chamber is an enormous pillar of green crystal. A stone serpent is wrapped around it, its head aflame. In the back of the chamber is a raised altar, and behind it a wall mosaic pulses with green light.
As you explore, an echoing voice speaks. It seems to come from all around, saying, “Have you come to seek the wisdom of the prophet? Swear allegiance to the Awakener and my prophecy will be but the first of the gifts you receive!”

Saint Gudule kneels and raises his hands.

Saint Gudule kneels and raises his hands.
"I, Saint Gudule, swear allegiance to the Awakener!"
If only you said that in the first room of the dungeon, it would have opened the door and disarmed the alarm lol.
Hearing Saint Gudule's reponse, the voice says, "Yesss, bow before the Awakener and bear his gifts."
Then Trutzburg, "Fool, you shall die here then and face the Awakener in death!"
You then hear spellcasting coming from somewhere in the room.
The spellcasting is coming from a "hidden" pit that circles the spire in the center of the room!
Saint Gudule: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Barm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Baied ponders her options, readying herself for a fight while listening to the incantations, trying to identify the spell

Baied senses no auras of chaos coming from anywhere in the room. But she can tell that the spell being cast is displacement.
Saint Gudule
|
haha too bad! ^^
Saint Gudule moves inside and begins to focus on Barm, as the man becomes more and more big.
Casting Enlarge Person on Barm.
000dafi03
|
Enlarge person takes 1 round to cast, then finishes at the start of your next turn. I'd say yes, you can reach him, but I think he would have cover. The pit isn't described, like at all in the scenario, nor is it pictured well, or at all, on the map.
000dafi03
|
Also, the creature has no climb speed or skill ranks, so I'm not sure why it has been placed in a pit to fight you, especially since it can't do anything to you from in the pit.
The serpent creature rises up over the pit and slithers out to face Barm. It then tries to wrap itself around Barm.
grapple: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 This provokes, so it probably won't actually succeed since the damage you deal gets added to the check as a penalty. This creature has some weird tactics for it's skill set.

Hampering Hex: –2 penalty to AC and CMD for 7 rounds. A DC 18 Will saving throw reduces this to just 1 round.
If Barm is grappled, Saint Gudule will cast "Liberating Command" on him.

escape artist, Barm: 1d20 + 2 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 14 = 27 Your profile says +2 escape artist, does that account for Armor Check Penalty and ranks?
Assuming that number is accurate, Barm escapes from the serpent.

Trutzburg hits with one of his attacks, despite the extremely blurry state of the snake creature.
Baied fires a crossbow, but many of you wonder where she was aiming.
The creature gives up on grappling for now as it tries to cast a spell instead.

Combat Over!
Ok, so the creature's tactics are: "Sanaz toys with PCs while casting defensive spells, then uses spells judiciously and tries to knock PCs into the pit". The problem with that is that its only spells are displacement, lightning bolt (DC 16), cat’s grace, invisibility, scorching ray, expeditious retreat, magic missile, ray of enfeeblement, shield, silent image, daze, detect magic, light, mage hand, open/close, ray of frost, read magic. So I'm not sure what spells it is supposed to use to knock you in the pit, or how it is supposed to get you in the pit in general. I tried to grapple Barm to throw him in, but its CMB is terrible and it doesn't have any improved maneuvers to make use of.
Looking down into the pit, you see a swarm of venomous snakes, but also the glint of gold. Given enough time, you could kill all the snakes safely from outside the pit if you have the resources or skills to harm swarms, otherwise there is nothing else of interest in the room.
Regnum Blastface
|
Given Regnum has his Swarmbane Clasp (that allows regular weapons to deal damage to swarms), he jumps down into the pit and bashes the snakes to death with his club.

Would not recommend jumping into the pile of snakes with their CON damage poison plus distraction.
