Crowe - Iconic Character |
Crowe nods.
”I am also ready and to thank you all for your support of freedom and the willingness to overcome hurdles as one team! What we did today is going to send ripples in this sea of fire and brass!“
Crowe casts enlarge person on himself.
GM Hawthwile |
As Crowe begins chanting, Fahd drinks his mutagen. With a nod, Cirri flings open the door to discover a closet, empty save for a few scraggly bathrobes sized for someone twice her size - or Crowe's current size as his spell finishes. The only door out of the closet leads back into the bedroom.
What do you do?
Fahd Bin Stavain PFS |
Snaggletooth keeps listening! [dice=Perception]1d20+20
I'll move Fahd for you if you want--you still want help moving about the map?
That would be great. I forgot to post that. Thanks so much.
Ninlil of Dilmun |
"I think you can manage, Snaggletooth." says Ninlil, as she tries awkwardly to corral a pterosaur running around her shoulders and scratching at its nose out of (perhaps psychosomatic) irritation. "I think this leaves only a couple of doors left--which door do you think we should be focusing on, everyone?"
GM Hawthwile |
The Pathfinders look at each other in awkward silence for a few seconds.
What do you do?
Cirri Merryweather |
"That's... much less dangerous than I thought." Cirri quickly leaves the bedroom and heads to the northwest door. "How about we check this room before you guys shrink back to normal?"
Crowe - Iconic Character |
”Yes, that sounds good! Let us move on! Can we leave more of the evidence here at least? Who has it?“
GM Hawthwile |
Then it is decided.
The Pathfinders move to the next set of double doors. As Cirri opens them, they see another bedroom with similar furniture and decorations to the previous room. Another set of double doors marks an exit to the east.
What do you do?
Crowe - Iconic Character |
Crowe starts searching the room.

”Can someone cast detect magic!“
Fahd Bin Stavain PFS |
Fahd moves to the next set of double doors, ready to open them upon agreement from the group.
”Have we planted all our evidence? We need to make sure all of that is taken care of before we find our item and escape...”
Cirri Merryweather |
Cirri grabs another piece of evidence and puts it in the room. "Sure, I'll look for anything magical. Let's check that room in the corner while we're here, too."
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
GM Hawthwile |
Then it is decided.
Crowe does not see anything extraordinary from outside the room as Cirri tucks a brass plate into the top drawer of the bedstand. Cirri then inspects the room for magical auras, but does not notice anything new besides her companions' equipment. Fahd dramatically opens the doors to find another closet, this one completely empty save for a few hangers.
??: 1d20 + 14 - 10 ⇒ (1) + 14 - 10 = 5
What do you do?
Cirri Merryweather |
"Well, one more room to look into. We'll place the evidence in there." Cirri moves to the last room on this floor.
Ninlil of Dilmun |
"I hope we can find the missing stuff."
GM Hawthwile |
Then it is decided. Cirri, currently you are not invisible unless you've applied it again (if so, please link to post so we can determine how much time has passed and if you're re-re-applied the spell).
Cirri opens the door to reveal what looks like an office. The walls of the chamber bear a patina that continuously shimmers and swirls, and every inch of the floor bears fantastic mosaics of metallic tiles. A disk of polished marble stands to the southeast between two bay windows. The desk's surface is covered in an abundance of brass sheets, and in a glass case atop the sideboard in the corner sits a brass azer jawbone poised atop a metal stand. A large elemental of fire and rock stands near the desk - as it sees the door open, it starts moving to investigate.
"Haltu," says a forceful voice. Seated at the desk is an older, regal efreeti who looks nearly identical to the portraits in the bedrooms. As the elemental relaxes, the efreeti stands and walks around the desk to better see his visitors in the doorway. "Now who might you be? Certainly someone important, to have not even bothered scheduling an appointment, but nevertheless let me welcome you to my home. What business shall we discuss today?" He bows mockingly, eyes never leaving the Pathfinders.
What do you do?
Crowe - Iconic Character |
Crowe steps in and seeing the man is not hostile tries to mimic the bow.
Diplomacy aid: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Cirri Merryweather |
I am definitely visible.
Cirri sees the jaw- that must be it! and almost completely misses the living mass of fire and rocks before her. Only as the efreeti addresses her does she react.
"Oh! Eek!" Cirri nearly loses her balance. "This must be the head of the house... Xojject Cinderfury."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
"Why would... why would you keep that awful contract?" She points a finger accusingly. "Enslaving an entire family of azers, with no way out? This House is in great trouble, yet there is a chance for you to redeem yourself and ask for forgiveness."
Cirri isn't sure where she's going with her speech, but all she can do is plead. Maybe this efreet has a heart?
Riddywhipple shakes his head at the woman's naïvety. "He's going to burn us alive, isn't he?"
Masayoshi |
The moment Masayoshi hears Cirri begin speaking he rushes forward to stop her from trying to say anything that will get them killed!
”What my companion here is trying to say is that we were not greeting warmly—no pun intended—by the household servants. A pair of salamanders attacked us for not ‘punishing’ a group of azers—which is not our job! I apologize for the inconvenience to yourself, good sir, but it’s not as if we have not been inconvenienced ourselves!”

Masayoshi runs interference and manages to keep Cirri quiet. She glares at him angrily but manages not to fly off the handle. Yet.
GM Hawthwile |
Because we need to finish in seven days, I'm going to nudge things over the edge. I hope you will find it in your heart to forgive me someday.
Xojject smiles mockingly as Crowe bows, but his eyes betray his displeasure as Masayoshi cuts Cirri off. He folds his arms and taps a finger. "A pair of salamanders, you say?" he inquires. "Now, the only folks with me in the estate are Ewari, her pet Neisti, and the help staff. Unless someone's been making changes to the serving roster, there are no salamanders here." His hand shifts to the axe hanging from his belt. "But you know where there are salamanders in my employ? In my security detail." His tone is openly antagonistic now. "Now, I'm just a simple businessman, but the logical implication would be that you premeditated your trespassing here and sought to isolate me as easy prey." His hands and head ablaze now, he shouts, "WELL, YOU SHALL FIND OUT WHY THE CINDERFURY FAMILY IS FEARED! I WILL NOT DISAPPEAR WITHOUT A FIGHT!"

Xojject: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Craterflame: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Xojject looks as powerful an efreeti as Basira - maybe even moreso. Craterflame, on the other hand...
Well, he looks like a magma elemental. Large ones like this are difficult to damage with any weapon (DR/-) and are immune to fire damage - but vulnerable to cold! Like most elementals, they don't have discernible internal organs or vulnerable spots (immune to precision damage), don't need to breathe, and can see in the dark. Magma elementals can burn those they touch and even cause them to catch on fire, but not as strongly as true fire elementals. They also can glide through stone and soil like an earth elemental. Lastly, they don't tend to have the strongest minds.
This one, however, is smiling in a positively fiendish way...
It looks like a magma elemental - immune to fire, vulnerable to cold, and capable of setting those it touches ablaze with the sheer heat of its body.
This one, however, is smiling in a positively fiendish way...
It's well-known that magma elementals are immune to fire damage and vulnerable to cold damage. However, most folks don't know that they can also generate molten rock and spit it up around them, causing an area of difficult terrain that burns those foolish enough to step in it even after the elemental has moved on.
This one, however, is smiling in a positively fiendish way...
Xojject points at Crowe, and the flames dancing around his fingertips leap out at the enlarged man...

"Go get 'em, guys! Don't patronize me you stupid ring!"
Fahd Bin Stavain PFS |
Fahd clicks his heels together, activating his boots of speed. He centers himself (enters Pummeling Style) and pulls and drinks a potion of Barkskin, heading into the room at his earliest opportunity.

"I'm not even surprised. Violence and slavery, it's all you understand."
"Why is that magma elemental so... cheerful?" Cirri grips her quarterstaff. "Whatever. Just use lots of cold magic- it resists weapon damage."
A field of Obscuring Mist forms around her, covering most of the party. "Now it can't pummel us as we approach!" Her quarterstaff head frosts over.
Spending an Arcane Pool point to add +2 Frost to my quarterstaff (so it's now a +3 Frost weapon.) This gives a +2 Shield Bonus to AC.
She then moves to the edge of the mist.

Xojject Spellcraft vs DC 16: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (3) + 20 = 23
"You think such parlor tricks can stop me!?" Xojject taunts Cirri. "I will show you the cunning and skill of the Cinderfury family!"
Fudging initiative slightly to allow more people to post sooner since Craterflame can't attack this round.
Cirri watches as the magma elemental slowly moves into the cloud and disappears from her sight. Moments later Crowe sees it moving past him, but is not wielding his weapon and cannot take advantage of the creature's distraction. The mists behind Cirri swell as the elemental reveals itself in a flanking position behind her. Shaking a massive fist at her, it yells in distress, "Þú! Þú gerir magann vitlaus, gerðu mig pirruð! Ég mylja þig, ljósta þig!" and seems to grow angry and rageful.

"Oh. This is bad."
Ninlil of Dilmun |
Ninlil steps forward and looks through the mist, her eyes glowing. Ninlil can see through the obscuring mist with her mask. She chants an incantation and the words of arcane power seem to come faster and faster.
Haste, on Cirri, Crowe, Ninlil, and Snaggletooth as Ninlil 5' steps up to be in range. This misses Fahd, who is boots-hasted, and Toctep, unfortunately. Sorry for not checking in last night! Things have been really crazy.
She begins narrating (quickly!) in Taldane. "Magma elemental, most likely fiendish. Has probably smote Cirri, as it can smite those with a history of good intentions. Can spit magma--creates terrain that is difficult to walk through and burns to the touch. Also likely has fiendish resistances to damage and we'll need weapons of powerful good auras to punch through."
GM Hawthwile |
Botting Toctep
Toctep casts shield on himself before plunging into the cloud until he spies the elemental.
Meanwhile, the front doors open and a salamander enters. Hearing the ruckus upstairs, she slowly slithers up the grand staircase and hisses at Ninlil threateningly.
Hearing the salamander's hissing, Xojject laughs triumphantly. "You see! I may be old, but that means I have had a lifetime magnitudes longer than your pitiful mortal spans to forge alliances. Now, let us dispose of this," he waves a hand dismissively at the mist, "nuisance." He furrows his brow, keeping an eye on Cirri as he flicks a glowing pea-sized speck towards the wall that blossoms into sudden heat, burning away the cloud and scorching those within.

Crowe, please remember to check the initiative order. If you have questions about who's up, please don't hesitate to let me know!
Given the proximity of the salamander to the wall, I would say she is interacting since it should be giving off some pretty chill vibes, man.
The salamander looks at the wall...
Will vs DC 14: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
...and seems to recoil in fear before Masayoshi shows her the monkey...
Will vs DC 22: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
...and she flies against the railing, looking quite nauseated by the whole affair.
Given that the Pull monster ability states a creature stops if it runs into a solid object, the salamander only moves 5 ft. I'm open to ideas that it would slide along the railing into the illusionary wall, but I would rather not open that mess of rules unless someone's got something handy at their fingertips to clarify.
Cirri casts her spell, but the two of her cannot land a blow on the cagey efreeti, who roars with laughter. He tries to avoid Ninlil's shocking addition...
Reflex vs DC 21: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
..but lightning strikes his foot and he roars again - this time in displeasure.
Fahd, I'm going to "skip" over you to keep things moving so more folks can post while I'm asleep. Craterflame's old location is marked with the faded icon - you should be able to move up to strike without triggering an AoO since you have cover from Crowe and Toctep.

...but he seems to ignore some of the heat even as he catches on fire!
The unhappy salamander, blocked by the "wall of ice", slithers down the steps as quickly as she can in her nauseated condition and reaches the foot of the staircase. Xojject, seeing several of his opponents veiled with illusions, floats above the thundercloud and frowns in concentration. A moment later, a ring of violet fire springs into existence around the room!

Ninlil shouts, "We need to get him out of the fire! Hurry! Someone bring him over here, I can close at least some of his wounds if you cannot--"
Ninlil's player is figuring she probably does not have the strength or carrying capacity to lug our enlarged friend out of the flames but she DOES have a once-per-day use of Lay on Hands from a Silver Crusade faction journal card. She thinks we need to move fast on this one...
Ninlil's player is aware she can act, but Ninlil is delaying until she knows how the rest of the actions in this group are going to turn out.

Masayoshi turns to see Riddywhipple's giant block.
"That's not fire, that's ice...on the Plane...of Fire...What?"
The aasimar moves forward and reaches his hand out toward the wall.
Will: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
As his hand falls through the illusion Masayoshi pouts.
Hey, Riddywhipple, how about next time you use your dang telepathy to tell me that you created an illusion?! Technically he doesn't know that, but nevertheless it was frustrating because when you said that you created those words in the ice "facing the party" I'm pretty sure that that excluded me since I wasn't with the party.
Masayoshi, through the translucent image of the illusion, sees the true threat.
"Great gewürztraminer, that's a wall of fire!"
Realizing the dangerousness of the situation, Masayoshi frantically casts dispel magic!
Dispel Magic vs Wall of Fire: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
That's not good! Reroll!
Dispel Magic vs Wall of Fire w/2 GM Stars: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 2 = 17
That's. Not. Much. Better!!!

There's a side facing the salamander, and then there's the other side. Sorry that wasn't clear.
Fahd Bin Stavain PFS |
Fahd sucks it up and punches the elemental several times more, using his Pummeling Style.
Attack with Haste 1d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 15 + 1 = 17
Damage 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
Attack 1d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 15 + 1 = 23
Damage 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Iterative Attack 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 1 = 27
Damage 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Extra Haste attack 1d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 15 + 1 = 29
Damage 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Pummeling Style adds all damage toegether before reducing for DR.

Thanks for the note about Pummeling Style!
As Cirri transforms into a gargoyle, Masayoshi tries to extinguish the flames with little success. Fahd punches the elemental, landing three solid hits on the creature. Not all of his damage penetrates the thick skin, but thanks to his incredible fighting style Fahd pummels the same spot again and again - and it's a knockout! But even in defeat, Craterflame is too hot to handle safely...
Fire damage: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4) = 16
Fahd Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Fahd Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Fahd Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
...and Fahd is burned before catching on fire as he puts the magma elemental back into the ground (figuratively).
Thankfully, Toctep's burns from touching Craterflame have stopped hurting. Now only Xojject himself remains. (Well, and the salamander I guess.)
Round 3! Bold may act!
Xojject (-10)
Cirri (-40)
Fahd (-21, On Fire 1/??)
Masayoshi
Ninlil
Craterflame (-144)
Toctep (-29, Shield)
Crowe (-89, Bleeding out, 4 images)
Salamander (-8)
Active Area Effects:
- Haste (Cirri, Crowe, Ninlil) 3/7
What do you do?
Ninlil of Dilmun |
Ninlil is on delay until after Toctep goes--it appears that GM Magabeus is indeed missing, having been replaced with a backup GM for his game of the special, so I think you'll just want to bot him from here on out until he catches back up with us. Ninlil and Cirri have been asking him to toss Crowe out of the fire, if he would be so kind?
