I do know Ihrin will take the Cardinal aside and tell him of Autumns plight in the tower, after she learns more and more of it.
She will also train her to be a well-versed rogue. Go Skill monkeys!!

Skill monkeys will be needed in some parts of the Catacombs and also on the quest for the Mines of King Solomon, for sure!

Would I be allowed to visit an enchanter and get my amulet+1 upgraded to a +3 for the difference in cost? (16,000 gp)
Mwikali |
Mwikali will make some wands unless there are wonderous items they wish to have done.
I know I would love to boost my necklace and my cloak

Because greater teleport scrolls of high enough caster level to transport such a large party are rare and costly, it might actually be more practical for the party to sail from Italy to Africa... I know the party might be extremely prejudiced at this point against long sea voyages after their adventure in Atlantis, but it does seem the most cost effective option...
If you insist on teleportation, it will take probably every bit of extra treasure the party has on hand to purchase or scribe the necessary number of teleport scrolls, and multiple trips... I will do the calculations to determine how many teleports (at CL 9th) would be required to teleport 8 PCs the distance from Rome to the junction of African rivers shown on Landry's map, and post my findings here soon...
Michael Johnson 66 |
Nautical miles between Naples, Italy and Anfa, Morocco is about 1,420, a voyage of about 6 days at sea. This option assumes some additional overland travel, from Rome to Naples (not much), and then from Anfa in Morocco down to the region of West Africa where the junction of rivers shown on Landry's map lie (considerably more... I will get back to you on exact travel details in a bit).
I still am working on the details of teleporting...
Okay. The site of the Lost Mines is not far from Addid Abada in Ethiopia, so I calculated distance "as the witch teleports" between Rome and Addid Abada, which is 2,779 miles. That's 3 teleports at 9th level, and 6 teleports total to get 8 PCs there at 9th level (900 miles and 4 PCs including caster at 9th level). So you will need at least 6 teleports to get everyone there, and 12 altogether for a round trip! Teleporting three times to get there means stops in Cairo, Egypt, and somewhere in the Sudan, probably.

If anything teleporting to Marakesh and then traveling to West Africa might work better - save time and money, or at least find a reasonable compromise...

That would be a good compromise, actually, as it would cut down the required number of teleports to about 2 one-way, or 4 round trip. It would add a potentially dangerous yet exciting and XP-awarding overland journey from Marrakech to Ethiopia, as well, giving you a chance to fight against the Arab Slave Trade along the route and experience more of my fantasy version of the Dark Continent!

Mwikali isn't the only teleporter; as I mentioned, Toshiro takes it most days from his Lore Wandering Spirit. There is also little reason to assume we'd need to push hard to arrive same day. We can stop overnight once spells are depleted and push on again in the morning, with potential for exotic mini-quests or encounters wherever we stop off.

Great points. This sounds good to me. But I will leave travel plans and details to the players.

Also I have an idea for a couple of magical items.
One: A set of earrings for use to talk to each other and inturperate each other.
Two: Teleportation Circles or Gates between Marrakesh and Rome as well as Safi.
Three: Possibly a tongue stud of Tongues!

All of those are possible, given time and gold...
Cardinal Lucius d'Borja |
I can get the Pope on board with the teleporting gates I think.
Lucius doesn't need the rest - he speaks more languages than an reasonable person should! (2 lanaguges per linguistics level, a lot at the start because they made sense and max ling ranks... I'm just having a hard time explaining why he knows most of the ones he does...)
That said if my rebuild takes CWI I could make the earrings etc. Although might be better if a caster without a limited spell-list did that!

Mad respect, Lord P. That was very cool.
Yeah, that was awesome.

Now let's hope we can keep most of the people of Rome alive through the coming months so that they may enjoy the benefit of those alms...

If I had known Fox's real name was Toshio, I MAY not have named my character Toshiro. =p
It took me a good while to puzzle out why the Cardinal was asking Toshiro if he had anything else to add in confession...
Lol I saw that too but chalked it up to a natural slip. Yeah, Toshio is Fox's family name, Toshiro is your given name, much potential for confusion. It might help to remember that Okumura is Fox's given name (which kind of sounds more like a family name, and Toshio sounds more like a given name, but I'm a gaijin, what do I know? Lol)...

Oh, Toshio is his given and Okumura his family name--I figured since he had grown up in Europe he would adopt the local conventions regarding the order of given and family names.

So it seems that some of you need some time to craft.
Ogon Fox/Toshio Okumura needs 9 days to write a processional march for the Holy Roman Emperor...
Mwikali needs some time to craft magic jewelry that will facilitate easier communication within the party and abroad...
During this time, Quinlan could leave the formulation of fireproofing ointment to Nicolas Flamel for a few of those days to scribe caster level 9 scrolls of teleport to assist his former adventuring mates in their venture to the Lost Mines...
The Ogon Fox |
We could do the crafting while adventuring...but it only progresses at 1/4 of the normal pace. Now if there were several uneventful days on a ship at sea, I would make a case for those being "non-adventuring" days allowing the normal crafting rate. So that's something to consider.

The Mines are all detailed, as is the overland journey from Marrakech to Egypt to Ethiopia to H Rider Haggard's* fictional Kukuanaland. I'm just giving everyone time to decide what they want to spend their gold to craft, and post it in gameplay.
(*Author of King Solomon's Mines)
I've adopted for my Fairytale Earth a few literary inventions of previous fantasy and pulp fiction authors, such as Edgar Rice Burroughs' Pellucidar, a wild lost world you will find at the core of Fairytale Earth, and his Barsoom (Mars)...
Other worlds exist as demiplanes coterminous to the Material Plane:
The Land of Oz
Wonderland (the Land Beyond the Looking Glass)
Neverland
Gooseland (in the Black Forest)
Tir Na Nog
Avalon
Alfheim
Etc...
Storm Dragon |
How much money in raw gold do we have? Toshiro might craft a few things too, and Habiba could scribe some scrolls.
Edit: Hm. Looking at it, I goofed a midge making Toshiro; he does snot qualify for the Ritual Hex Feat (I though it said Kn. Arcana OR Kn. History 4 ranks, but it requires both). Going to get rid of that since I haven't used it yet anyway.
In exchange I'll probably get that cool Feat that gives me a permanent Unseen Servant effect. I was torn between the two anyway.
I'm not a huge fan of Occult Adventures, but the spin-off book (Haunted Heroes Handbook) has a bunch of REALLY cool Feats in it.

So it is now February 3. We expect the Apocalypse on February 14 (unless it deviously happens earlier).
Teleporting to Marrakech and then traveling overland to Ethiopia sounded like a good idea--but do we know how many days that overland journey would take? And then there is the travel time getting back to consider. Can we get back by February 14?

Everyone who hasn't leveled up to 9th level, reminder to do so.
And Lord P, you sneaky fey, how are you 10th level already? :P
You don't want to miss out on experiencing all the fun of 9th level first, do you? Lol
Me Bad, should have checked where we where, I will roll back

Hehe! No worries, I figured you misunderstood when I posted about this next adventure giving you the XP needed for 10th. I assumed you just read it quickly as "You have enough XP for level 10" lol

Doubtful unless you make strategic use of teleport. It might make more sense to wait out the Holocaust and then go in search of the Lost Mines of King Solomon to help finance the city's recovery from the dragon attack.
Mwikali |
Also Mwikali will if she is around help take care of Zags' favorite playmate. Its the least she can do.
Besides a burgeoning same-sex coupling in a devout Cardinals' Home seems...fun.

Oh god... Zag sleeping with the maids was bad enough, now I have an african witch seducing a roman prostitute and potenitally a Wallachian Princess and a Japanese Geisha getting up to things...
Lucius is FAR too old for this!
Vote for Rome - unsurprisingly.
*Adds Enochian as another language for Lucius to pick up* (By my count, at 2 languages per linguistics level and the 5 or so he began with Lucius can speak 20 something languages now... am I going overboard?)
