Kael Cullen |
Kael shakes his head-That's my point San. Telling Desna that you don't appreciate her gift of luck is a sure way to get punished the next time. Had you not heard your 'voices' things might have gone quite differently.
Plus, did it seem easy; you mean besides the fact that you almost died during the fight? In that case, I guess yes, for the rest of us it seemed easy.
Sanrael Bloodthorn |
sanrael scratches his head....looking perplexed....and goes to reply....then thinks the better of it.....Kael must be smoking the pipeweed again....
what next my fellow adventurers...
Pnin |
I think I can guess you're meaning, Sanrael. I too remain on edge.
Pnin walks toward the center of the bone pile, nervously.

Perception: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (20) + 23 = 43
Pnin |
Pnin silently calls the party's attention over to his find.
When the party is close:
Much as I'd love to whack some undead with this, I was never very good at swinging big hammers like this. How about you?
Kael Cullen |
Given the foul nature of the place, Kael takes no chances.
~detect evil~ on the hammer
I will try to sense it's nature, Curral will have to determine if it is more than a shiny bauble.
Any other routes in/out from this room?
Sanrael Bloodthorn |
Sanrael furrows his brow and stands.....looking about...speaks out loudly who speaks to me....I am Sanrael Bloodthorn....are you a ghost...a tormentor...or am I going mad?? by Freyas overgrown teats...answer me please... sanrael turns in a slow cautious circle...looking about
Sanrael Bloodthorn |
Sanrael looks about more....trying to discern where if at all possible a voice comes to only him....are you friend or foe...by what means do you speak to me....do you have a name
perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25
DM Darkvision |
Kael detects no evil on the hammer.
Curral detects magic on it.
+2 Great Hammer (Earthbreaker), +3 vs Undead, Detect Undead at will, Disrupting. A disruption weapon is the bane of all undead. Any undead creature struck in combat must succeed on a DC 14 Will save or be destroyed.
Kael Cullen |
Ooh, I wonder if it is worth as much as the Gloves of Delmoran? We could sell it or give it to a worthy retainer! JK. Sweet find Sanrael!

Kael Cullen |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
@Sanrael-I would think you best suited for it, no? You already have a great hatred for things undead ~favorite enemy~ and if we are going to be fighting more creatures of that nature I would think it best to maximize your abilities against them. As well, my guess is that the voices you have been hearing might be coming from the great hammer and I'm not sure if I would want that voice competing with the guidance I receive from Iomedae. In addition, I already have a magical blade where you do not. Having both of us with magical weapons increase our chances against a great many enemies. Finally, I don't think it's the type of weapon that best suits Pnin or Curral's approach to fighting. So that leaves the two of us and for reasons I just listed, you would seem to be the best wielder of it.
Sanrael Bloodthorn |
does my companion speak the truth Tolarchan....do you choose me to pair up and vanquish the undead? Sanrael speaks loudly
Sanrael Bloodthorn |
sanrael takes the hammer and looks at it closely....studying the silver dragons etched on either side
Sanrael Bloodthorn |
sanrael takes a few practice swings with the hammer....testing the weight.....
Kael Cullen |
Let's go practice those swings on some un-live targets San. I don't want to leave that pit of undead behind for anyone else to fall in to and if we open the door, that should provide us a nice choke point to funnel them towards the attention of your new hammer.
Assuming there is nothing else of value in the dragon's lair and no other way out Kael heads back to the door that leads to the undead pit to see how Sanrael's new weapon works.
After that we should return to Drax at the Goldenfire tower to inform him of all we discovered in the dungeon and see if he has news of Taeserle or any updates on the roving undead menace.
Sanrael Bloodthorn |
on the way to the room....Tolarchan....what can you tell me about how you came to be in this place...is there anything i should know of your power
Kael Cullen |
Kael motions to Pnin-See if you can get this open and then we can see what San can do with his new toy.
Looking at Sanrael-The rest of us will be right here in case things get sticky. It's hammer time!
Sanrael Bloodthorn |
and your thirst will be quenched tolarchon
Sanrael stands back from the door a hammers swing away......and nods at Kael...by all means Kael....lets invite our guest in
Pnin |
Pnin takes another look at the door to double-check for traps:
Perception: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (14) + 23 = 37
Unless he finds a trap this time, he opens it and backs off in order to give Sanrael first dibs.
Sanrael Bloodthorn |
GreatHammer PA: 1d20 + 2 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 2 + 8 = 292d6 + 13 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 13 + 2 + 2 = 24
Pnin |
Pnin will take some shots:
Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 11 - 2 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 11 - 2 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Kael Cullen |
Kael delays to see if Sanrael's hammer does the trick on the zombie he attacked. If it does Kael attacks a different zombie; if it does not Kael attacks the same zombie.
GSPA: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 92d6 + 13 ⇒ (5, 6) + 13 = 24
DM Darkvision |
will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Sanrael strikes the zombie with substantial force and it explodes, causing Kael to completely lose his concentration.
Pnin is also awed by the fireworks and his arrows fly off to the side.
Curral stays relatively calm and sinks an arrow into a zombie.
The zombies attack!
Sanrael
slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Kael
slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Dam: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 6) + 2 = 14
2 more zombies come through the door for a total of 4
Sanrael Bloodthorn |
GHPA: 1d20 + 8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 3 + 2 = 162d6 + 13 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 13 + 3 + 2 = 22
Kael Cullen |

Kael is a little stunned by the exploded zombie Holy shield! THAT was impressive.... and hacks at the one Curral hit, doing his best to jam the zombies at the doorway to prevent more from coming through GSPA: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 212d6 + 13 ⇒ (5, 4) + 13 = 22
If three of us hold the line at the door, the zombies should have to bull rush or some other maneuver to get more through.
Pnin |
Pnin keeps on firing
Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 11 - 2 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 11 - 2 = 29
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
I forget: is the rule that the 1 for the first rapid shot stops the entire sequence?
DM Darkvision |
will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Sanrael fells another zombie but this one doesn’t explode. Kael takes one down, while Curral wounds another. Pnin’s bowstring snaps putting his bow temporarily out of commission.
Sanrael
slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Kael
slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Dam: 4d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 3) + 4 = 14
Two more enter the room.

Those things will trip up on their fallen comrades at some point and then we'll have a nice big wall of destroyed zombies to keep them at bay...
GSPA: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 162d6 + 13 ⇒ (3, 4) + 13 = 20
Sanrael Bloodthorn |
Sanrael yells die you foul creatures...we shall give your wretched souls the peace they deserve!!!
GSHA: 1d20 + 8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 3 + 2 = 202d6 + 13 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3, 6) + 13 + 3 + 2 = 27
i wonder if i could learn to swing Tolarchon in such a way to hit more than one...hmmmmm
Pnin |
Does Pnin have to take a round to restring bow?
If not, he fires again:
Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 11 - 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 11 - 2 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
