"ERROR. FALSEGOD.INI NOT FOUND." Soundbyte intoned, moving into the room with determination.

The being beyond the door is horrific, a mass of eyes and mouths and tentacles.

Two large masses of it occupy the far ends of the armory, but the one two the right stands out. Embedded in one of it's eyes, however, is a familiar sight. A Shard of Unity, glowing softly.

It's festering bulk spreads through most of the room, and three large tentacles, each menacingly spiked, rise up as the party enters.

The same horrid voice sounds in the party's minds, "You had a chance to kneel. I will give but one more. Submit, and be spared."

Mechanically, the red highlighted one has the shard. The tentacles and the farther ones will have separate initiatives.

"Umm.... Guys? Is that thing organic? Because I didn't think Unity could take over organics..." At least, I'm pretty sure everything so far has had technological components. Also. Gross looking.

Krizen starts shooting, hoping the mass of the enemy would make his shots count for more than his aim had been providing.

Bravo and SET both miss the tentacles, but Krizen hits, nanites burrowing into putrid flesh.

The party is fast, but Octis is faster. It unleashes a psychic scream, buffeting the party with waves of primal rage.

Party must make a DC 16 will save or be shaken for 6 rounds!

The tentacle closest to Bravo lashes out, trying to slam into him but missing.

Alright, the party is up, and Soundbyte will get both a surprise round and a normal turn's actions.

Net was off at the worst time, but it's back now. Fairly tired, but I'm here enough to try taking my turns...

Soundbyte slams his stave into he ground, it's inscriptions lighting up as a miniature star is brought into existence just above. The staff is waved, and the mote of starlight is flung forward towards where the Shard of Unity has taken residence. "Ready, aim, fire!"

Harrying fire, +2 on attacks attacks the target.

The party focuses their fire on the closest tentacle, riddling it with holes and burns and nanite wounds, and it collapses to the ground.

Octis shrieks and gurgles in pain at Soundbyte's retaliatory psychic attack.

The other tendrils wave menacingly, ready to lash out at anyone that draws close.

The tendrils covering the ground, however, begin writhing and twisting on the ground, making the ground unstable and slimy at the same time.

The SRO takes note that his companions seemed to be focusing their fire elsewhere, so he directed the miniature sun towards the target of their aggression. S.E.T. and Krizen focus their fire on the tentacle to the right, and together manage to take it down, opening a pathway to one of the main bulks of Octis.

The remaining tentacle lashes out at Bravo, but the soldier is able to kick it away and prevent it from pulling him off his feet.

Octis' psychic voice echoes in the party's heads, "Suffer!" As it does so, several chunks of debris rise of the floor, hurling themselves at the members of the party in the room. While Bravo ducks out of the way, S.E.T. and Krizen aren't so lucky, with the robot taking 6 damage and Krizen taking 7!

The nanites burn into Octis who's massive bulk prevents it from getting rid of the microscopic robots.

Octis waves it's tentacles wildly as a cloud of greenish mist comes into being in front of it, partially obscuring it from view. Bravo stand just on the edge of it and the vapor from it waters his eyes and burns his nose.

The party fights on, throwing nanites, bullets, and magical projectiles. Eventually, they wear it down, and a shot from Bravo's rifle strikes the creature in a large, pulsating eye. It bursts, and the bulky monstrosity's core slumps to the ground.

A horrible psychic scream rings through the room as the tendrils write in agony. They crawl up the party's legs, almost dragging them to the floor before they abruptly collapse, landing limply on the floor and quickly disintegrating into a viscous slime.

Octis's body sits at the end of the hallway, it too turning into a mound of black slime. A crystal shard embedded in a hunk of degraded meat is the only thing that remains.

The party feels stronger, wiser, better.

Alright, level up y'all!

"Good work, Starfinders."

He approaches the shard and attempts to yank it free.

Soundbyte gently grab's Bravo's hand before he can touch the object in question. "Look before you leap." He comments, gesturing to the mass of decaying organic tissue with his staff. Then with a quick rotation, he begins to try removing it with a phantom grasp. "Look mama, no hands!"

Fragments of the First Battle Maps | Old and Broken Battle Maps | Twilight of the Heroic Age Battle Maps |

The shard floats towards Soundbyte with very little issue, though as it floats into his grip a voice echoes in his head. It feels like his goddess but...wrong. Divine but...harsher, unflinching, arrogant, "Even the children of steel turn away from my light. Your people are my chosen. No matter. Still others kneel for the gifts I promise. That option remains open, for now."

It fades, but just like a bad aftertaste, the feeling of the voice lingers in Soundbyte's head for a while.

Anything else you all would like to do in the facility or on the planet?

Male Human Soldier (Starfinder Forerunner) 4 | SP 28/28 HP 32/32 RP 5/5 | EAC 13 KAC 16; Tch 11; FF 11/14 | F +4; R +4; W +4 | Speed 25 ft. | Init +3 | Perc +4

Bravo takes the shard from Soundbyte and boxes it up.

"I'd recommend rigging up some sort of explosive to initiate a core-melt of this facility's reactor-core on our way out...but I don't wanna unexpectedly pollute this planet's waters. We don't know what kind of old-fashioned, dangerous materials these people used to build this base. I guess we go back to Hlaashyaal and ask the Karang what they wanna do."

I really don't think he'd want to touch it physically, but if there's no consequences to it then alright.

"Condemned to a watery grave," He comments after a moment, still parsing the strange echoes in his mind.

Fragments of the First Battle Maps | Old and Broken Battle Maps | Twilight of the Heroic Age Battle Maps |

Unless there are objections, I'll move us back to Hlaashyaal.

The journey back to the Karang city is a peaceful one. Several schools of fish come to investigate the STEVE, peering into the view ports as the vehicle passes by. Hlaashyaal is still a glorious sight to behold, delicate coral spires glittering in the odd light of the sea and lush gardens of kelp surrounding it.

STEVE touches down, it's wheels gripping into the sand on the outskirts of the city.

The party's quickly greeted by Hlaush, riding out to meet them on his coral skimmer.

"Finders of stars! You return from the dark waters. Those depths hold death, yet you escaped it. Tell me, did you find what you sought?"

Bravo nods.

"We did. It appears that people like me, humans, built that place a long time ago. They were studying a creature they called the Octis, but it was somehow corrupted by a piece of the false god Unity, prompting it to kill the humans, who haunted the place as ghosts afterwards. The Octis creature is dead, the ghosts have been laid to rest, and we took the piece of Unity to destroy it safely. The only question left is what your people would like to do with that place. We can set up something that should destroy it completely, but I was concerned that might pollute your planet's waters so I wanted to ask you guys first."

Hlaush turns away for a moment before looking back at the party, ”I have a request. I wish to come with you Finders of Stars. If what you say is true, and the travellers between the stars are more prolific than ever before, they will reach my people eventually. If I can help them by leaving, it is my duty to the world and my ancestors.”

Bravo is slightly taken aback by Hlaush's request, but nods.

"Uh, sure! We can bring you to Absalom Station and show you around. Obviously the Starfinders will wanna interview you. We can help you gather your things and take you back to our ship, the Pipe Dream."

Hlaush gives a slight bow, the closest thing that the karang seem to have for a smile, before retrieving a bag woven from kelp from his skiff and a carved coral spear. He nods, "I am ready then."

The party makes it back to the Pipe Dream without any trouble. Krizen heads to the engine room, getting the ship ready for liftoff. Hlaush seems confused by much of the ship, full of materials he's never seen and he audibly yelps when Lexi speaks, "Welcome back, Starfinders. It seems you've brought a guest. It seems likely that it is aquatic. If necessary, the bed in the spare quarters can be repurposed into an immersion basin."

After the crew gets settled, the ship lifts off, leaving the world behind before shifting into the Drift. It's a few day's journey back to Absalom Station, during which Hlaush asks many, many questions about nearly every aspect of life in the Starfinder society.

The docks are a crowded, chaotic place, as always, and even though Hlaush is obviously not from the station, nobody bats an eye as the party makes their way back to the Lorespire Complex. After all, it's Absalom Station. Nearly everyone has seen something stranger.

As the party enters the large building, one of the receptionists flags down S.E.T. and Krizen "Ah, excuse me. You two seem to have been reassigned to an excavation mission on Aballon. If you'll come with me, I'll get your briefing started." S.E.T. grumbles but relents, "Well, seems we're needed elsewhere. Take care you two. Next time we're all on the station, libations are on me." Krizen gives a wave as he walks away. The robot and the space-ferret, it seems, are off to other business.

Historia-7's office is clean and neat as always, and the android researcher is accompanied by three people, a vesk, a kasatha, and another android sit in the barely comfortable chairs in Historia-7's office. She greets Soundbyte and Bravo, "Welcome back. I'm sure you're aware of your teammates reassignments. You're being reinforced, however, with these three. I will permit, she checks the small holo-clock on her desk, "three minutes for initial fraternization. Once that is complete, I'll begin the briefing for your next task."

Bravo patiently answers Hlaush's questions to the best of his ability, and when they land he makes a grand sweeping gesture.

"Welcome to Absalom Station, Hlaush."

When they're ambushed by the receptionist and Krizen and S.E.T. are reassigned, Bravo nods.

"Great flying with you, boys. Hopefully there'll be fewer ghosts and monsters on this mission."

As they arrive in Historia-7's office, Bravo gives a cursory wave to the new crew-mates.

"Hi. Name's Bonar Vizetelly. Call me 'Bravo.' This is Hlaush, he's a Karang from Planet VW-248A-U, the first of his people to leave their homeworld," Bravo explains, spending more time introducing Hlaush than on himself.

Durring the trip, the missionary can't help but 'subtly' recount various recordings of the sermon's he'd sat in durring opportune moments around Hlaush. For one who had never seen the full majesty of Her Stars, this was the perfect chance to bring new seeds of light to bare.

Once they'd reach the offices, he makes an odd mechanical whine as the two figures begin to move out of this phase of their lives. Safe travels be upon you." Soundbyte comments in the end, tone not quite a match for his mood.

He continues to follow along behind the organics, standing up straighter once the other starfinders are encountered for the first time. "I am /Soundbyte of Sunlight. /I bring upon you good tidings on this blessed day."

Roskar stands upright and gives a small bow to the two. The small, pulsing crystal orbits slowly around and slightly above his head. It seems to give off a cool, almost soothing glow. The red scaled Vesk is large, even for his people. After the initial small bow, he stands in a military stance of rest. With his arms Clasped together behind his back. He speaks in a deep voice.

Greetings, may the stars find you well. I am Roskar Katavo Avular Elinasto. You however may refer to me as Roskar Starcaller, Or Roskar if you must. I have taken liberties to garner a little information on your strengths, from what I have discovered, I believe we will work well together. At least in combat.

Roskar gives Hlaush a curious glance and a quick nod before returning his attention back to SoS and Bonar.
