Looking forward to this GM Tyranius. Thanks for being an awesome overseer for SFS #1-99 last session. What is your current plan for a start date of this scenario?

Fellow players - who are you planning to bring to the party? Who would you like with you?

My current selections, though they all need some updating, are Bard; Cleric; Ranger; Rogue. I am also happy to generate another character and I am toying with the idea of testing at least one of the multi-class options.

I should also disclose right from the start, I have run this scenario so will minimize decision making and try to ignore what knowledge I, the player, have.

Looking to start around the first or once all players are ready. I'll shoot out PM's tomorrow for those that didn't see the recruitment thread.

The scenario itself doesn't provide any pregens but they can be found and downloaded:

Or you can create your own level 5 character.

Silver Crusade

I will need to create a new level 5 character. I have an alchemist 5 that I committed to another game. Oops.

I think I am most interested in creating a Paladin, so if that is OK with everyone- I will make a paladin tonight and get it posted by tomorrow!

This will be my first time playing PF2, so sorry if I am a little slow in getting everything figured out

Silver Crusade

I see we already have a paladin. Ok! New plan for me!

I am going to make a cleric! Character will be up this evening (perhaps over lunch, EST)

Everything is set, other than equipment. I am confused about what counts towards the item limit we are given versus what needs to be purchased. Does master +1 armor count for both the level 4 and the level 2 item?

I cant find any really useful level 3 or level 1 items either, so I am happy to hear suggestions about what other characters have chosen.

Thanks!

My Announcements

Sorry, didn't catch that the link went to gameplay.

I was wondering why there wasn't much posted yet.

My Announcements

I'm gonna try to build a concept based on Cardcaptors a little bit, but not sure I can finish it tonight.

If that takes too long though I'll just use the lvl 5 Seoni pregen.

At the core the system is mainly the same. The largest difference being the actions phase. You get 3 actions a turn now and each action listed in the book to include spells will state how many they use. A lot of the skills were consolidated.

Sounds like you have enough PCs. Good thing, too. My level 5 character is nowhere close.

Quick question, can I reflavor the goblin as a kobold? Same mechanics, different flavor?

Same with spells, can I be a sorceress but instead of directly casting spells, I use a small charm to cast the effect ala cardcaptors? Again, mechanically the same but flavor-wise different.

Unfortunately not for Society play. Though what you can do is use Deception (Impersonate) to disguise yourself as one.

GM: Does master +1 armor count for both the level 4 and the level 2 item?

All of the 5th level pregens that I looked at managed to have both +1 armor and +1 weapons. Based on the 5th level character creation guidelines we were given, that doesn't appear possible for us to match (and it doesn't initially appear we can do a +1 weapon/armor and have even an expert left for the other)

Let me punch it into Herolab and see. I would think that it would count towards the highest level. Though Master armor is lvl 7 not level 4.

The way I understand it is:

Expert Level armor = 2nd level
Master level armor = 7th level

Armor Potency +1 = 3rd level
Armor Potency +2 = 7th level

So an Expert +1 armor would be 3rd level item.
A Master +1 Armor would be 7th level item.

It is definitely confusing when it comes to weapons and armor.

I’ll get equipment posted tonight and be ready to go!

I found my issue. The item levels differ between weapon/armor.

My dwarven waraxe is a 2 to be expert, but a level 4 to make +1. Same goes for the heavy armor. 2 to be expert, but 4 to be +1. A breastplate is 2 to be expert, but only 3 to be +1. I guess I have to make a tough decision...

@Chadius- Anytime!

Hey all, just joined and will be putting together a character this afternoon, just trying to take stock on what we have so I know what to make.

I see bard/rogue and cleric and paladin, with some talk of a wizard or sorcerer.

Leaning towards a fighter. I had been thinking wizard-fighter but it sounds like we probably have magic covered.

Thoughts?

GM Tyranius - having just discovered that my Gathering Information post did not stick, I am wondering if you want us to make such rolls or do you want us to post our modifiers so you can provide the secret rolls as indicated in the rules as the default?

Dark Archive

Tyrant's Grasp | | Age of Ashes | | Dead Suns | | ◆ | ◆◆ | ◆◆◆ | ◇ ◈ | ↺ | ★

If you guys feel a roll is necessary somewhere or I post a spoiler then go ahead and roll it. As for secret rolls I will set those off for traps, ect.

So even if you roll a perception check later and it would beat a trap's spot DC you still wouldn't notice it.

There are certain spots for secret rolls. I think they worded that section quite poorly as it is nearly the same as what we have already been doing all along with PbP spoilers and asking for rolls. You still won't know the results if you fail or may get misinformation.

Oh, I really hate phones. I just lost all the charsheet updates, and I wasn't even trying to post them yet (I'd have copied the sheet before clicking the button).

I do have a question though, I haven't found any penalties for wearing armor as a caster without proficiency (unless a lack of bonuses counts as a penalty). I'm not missing anything that interferes with spellcasting (like spell fail chance) right? Well, anything that interferes with mundane attacking would be nice to know too, but that is mostly just a backup weapon.

Tyrant's Grasp | | Age of Ashes | | Dead Suns | | ◆ | ◆◆ | ◆◆◆ | ◇ ◈ | ↺ | ★

Armor Proficiency

Let's start with armor proficiency first.

So the penalties for wearing armor that you are not proficient in are the same as skills.

Untrained = Your level -2
Trained = Your level
Expert = Your level +1
Master = Your level +2
Legendary = Your level +3

To calculate her AC, add 10 plus her Dexterity modifier (up to her armor’s Dexterity modifier cap), plus her proficiency modifier with her armor, plus her armor’s item bonus to AC and any other bonuses and penalties that always apply.

To calculate her TAC, add 10 plus her Dexterity modifier (up to her armor’s Dexterity modifier cap), plus her proficiency modifier with her armor, plus her armor’s item bonus to TAC and any other bonuses and penalties that always apply.

So for example say you are a Level 1 Wizard with 16 (+3) Dex. you AC would be:

AC= 10 + 3 (Dex) + 1 (Character level) = 14
TAC= 10 + 3 (Dex) + 1 (Character level) = 14

Say you bought a medium armor (Breastplate) AC +3; TAC +1; DEX Cap +3.

Your AC totals would now be:

AC= 10 + 3 (Dex) + 1 (Character Level) -2 (Proficiency Untrained) + 4 (Breastplate) = 16
TAC= 10 + 3 (Dex) + 1 (Character Level) -2 (Proficiency Untrained) + 1 (Breastplate) = 14

Hope this makes sense.

**********

Arcane Spell failure

As for arcane spell failure chances due to armor, that is no longer in the rules and does not exist.

**********

Another rule to be aware of is that only Fighters are able to make attacks of opportunity now. Paladin's have the choice to pick it up at level 6.

Female N Half-Elf (Varisian) Bard 5-Rogue | HP 48/58 RP 9/9 SP 6/6 Hero 1/3 | AC 21 TAC 20 | F: +7, R: +10, W: +8| Perc: +7, +1 Initiative | Speed 25ft | Spell points: 6/6 | Spells: 3rd 1/2, 2nd 3/3, 1st 1/3 | Active conditions: Hasted.

I have finally addressed level 5 purchases etc.
I also had a minor rebuild as I started at 1st and rebuilt her level by level to make sure I had everything correct.

I have updated her character sheet and header. Please feel free to let me know of any potential errors or discrepancies.

Eldrish Silversong | Male Elf Scholar Wizard 5 [Fighter] Universalist | Perception +6[T] | AC 18, TAC 17 | Fort +6[T], Ref +8[T], Will +7[E] | | HP [56]46/46 | Resonance 9/9 | SP 4/4 | Hero 1/1 | Arcane Focus 3/3

I don't have my pdf with me today, but do the proficiencies in armor fall under the update with 1.3

If so untrained would be -4 now

Dark Archive

Tyrant's Grasp | | Age of Ashes | | Dead Suns | | ◆ | ◆◆ | ◆◆◆ | ◇ ◈ | ↺ | ★

You are correct, with 1.3 Untrained proficiency is now -4.

So:

AC= 10 + 3 (Dex) + 1 (Character Level) -4 (Proficiency Untrained) + 4 (Breastplate) = 14

TAC= 10 + 3 (Dex) + 1 (Character Level) -4 (Proficiency Untrained) + 1 (Breastplate) = 12

So even wearing breastplate would keep your AC the same and you would actually lose TAC in the process.

I was being stupid with both bracers and leather armor. :)

But that brings up the question of Unarmored Defense. Bracers say to use my unarmored defense proficiency, but I can't find anything about what my proficiency for that should be, nor any way to improve it.

As a note, aside from general feat and few gold, I have her complete, I think. I just need to finish typing her up, which makes me wish for a real computer. I've been looking up more details on each segment as I do this to catch anything and to make requisite notes on my sheet.

I'm part-way through typing the "choices" section, which is the section that has all the choices I made without derivitive info. Makes it easier for going back and checking my work, especially for those who rebuild it using those fancy chargen programs as a means of checking. If you happen to be the sort that does that, that section is the place to start. (Of course, I need to move it to the end. Not sure how it ended up in the middle)

Ninja'd

TAC in that example would be 11. 10+3+1+1-4
So even worse actually.

As feedback, it'd be better for untrained to penalize armor bonuses (min 0) rather than penalize AC, otherwise, for lower armor you get less AC than fighting naked.

Haha correct. Math is hard. I never received that new fangled common core stuff is my excuse :)

Okay, I totally waited forever for my phone to do a ctrl-f search for unarmored defense, and aside from monks improving it, animal companions getting it, and using it when you have no armor, there are no references to it. Nothing basic nor simple that tells you what it is, what it starts at or anything. Every reference expects you to already know what it is.

Edit, the character sheet doesn't even have it. In fact, the character sheet AC stat block assumes you have a minimum of trained apparently, as it only lets you select T,E,M,or L.

Edit: Am I literally at a -4 AC if I don't train in armor or be a monk? That doesn't really make sense to me.

Female N Half-Elf (Varisian) Bard 5-Rogue | HP 48/58 RP 9/9 SP 6/6 Hero 1/3 | AC 21 TAC 20 | F: +7, R: +10, W: +8| Perc: +7, +1 Initiative | Speed 25ft | Spell points: 6/6 | Spells: 3rd 1/2, 2nd 3/3, 1st 1/3 | Active conditions: Hasted.

I think it was the first update that included "All classes are trained in unarmoured defense."

Thank you.

Also, I am pretty sure my sheet is finished.
