Why might we be interested, any connection to the gang fighting? What sort of shop is it? Any more details Reu might know as a local?

first time back to Waterdeep since he was a boy for Marquez. Would he know that the Xan’s namesake is a beholder? That might lead him the think that the stuffed beholder is significant.

Oh, you know, PCs are notorious for checking out anything weird and this certainly qualifies. However, it might be something you might be interested in later... Just wanted to give you guys the chance. Move on ahead?

@Marquez, not many people know that the Xanathar is a beholder. I might allow someone with the criminal background to make a check, but even amongst folk of that type, it is not common knowledge. It's one of my pet peeves about this adventure, things that are not common knowledge are bandied about as if they were... (Such as Jarlaxle's family name...)

Damine looks into the shop, trying to hold herself back from her natural curiosity. ”Uuuggghh, I reeeaaallly wanna go look in there, but I know we have a job to do. We can come back here, right?”

Hahahaa, stop proving them right! XD Just kidding. You guys want to split up for a little while? I am not a proponent of 'Never split the party' so it's not bad unless you are somewhere SUPER dangerous... You're just in the seedy part of town... ;)

Bhoors looks around realizing that some of the others are splitting off. Weird. Its a group that needs me to keep them on task. Bhoors looks at the halfling, "I guess we need to visit a weird store." He shrugs.

"Okay guys we are going to the mall just pick up lunch before the movie. OH LOOK, Spencers. I didn't know they had one of these here.

Aye, so it seems. A trip at sea would hopefully take this outa them, time an' place for most things. Well, what say we go on ahead? They kno' where ta' go when they are done. Besides, if we don't find anything we may be able to sneak in a couple O' drinks for they get there. She gives a smile as she finishes her thought.

They can take care of themselves but you know safety in numbers and all that." He shrugs, "We've almost half a normal life for drinks, before consumption claims us."

Damine squeals in excitement as Marquez offers to go inside, not thinking anyone else would want to take a look at the odd shop. She takes a look at the handsome man and wistfully puts a strand of hair behind her ear until Reu comes up and shouts, getting in between the two.

"A-Ah! Don't scare me like that!" She puts her hand on the gnome's head and pushes him downward.

"Ooompf! I just wanna shop!" he pleads apologetically.

A cloud of lavender-scented purple smoke trails out of the shop’s door as you peer inside. Every wall is painted purple, and every dusty knickknack on the shelves is dyed a deep violet. The hairless old gnome sitting cross-legged on the counter wears plum-colored robes. His cheeks are decorated with nine purple face-painted eyes.

The gnome lowers a pipe and exhales a cloud of lavender smoke before raising a hand. Hail and well met! Come browse the shelves of the most curious curiosity shop in the world!

He raises a hand shaking his head trying to stop the gnome from speaking even before he is finished "Hold it. No. First things first, what is that delightful pipeweed you are enjoying and do you have some for sale?"

The elder gnome licks his lips a bit before looking down at Reuleaux, Why this it shaved black-top! Freshly delivered from the Underdark!

Why, I do have some available, though it is at a premium price! It is a gold dragon (1 gp) for a box!

"Excellent...I am here to inform you that you have a done deal. Moving on, second, what's with the purple motif. I must know."

I am still here. Its been a few days since Amelia has posted so I don't know if she will follow into the shop or press on toward the tavern. Bhoors would let her go alone. So I am not sure if we are split or not. Hence I have played like I haven't gone into the shop yet.

Grand Lodge

We'll wait a little longer before we progress that possibility...

The gnome looks down at Reu, Well, it matches so well with that beholder corpse that I had once found in the Underdark, don't you think?

He thinks a bit, Well, there's the spider...

The bald gnome gestures toward a little clockwork spider on a shelf. Every once in a while it seems to clean itself with its forelegs...

... There is the statuette of Gilarra... She'll bring ya dreams!

He gestures on the other side of the room, to a small statuette of a stone woman, possibly pregnant...

The gnome scratches his chin, Oh dreams! There's the dream catcher there!

Just above the statuette is a bronze pentacle with the etching of a rat's head at its center.

If that is not to your liking, there is a block of incense made from a black ooze...

He fishes around in a drawer, finally producing a pyramid of black incense that even from where you are standing smells foul!

Unless, you like teeth! he laughs, pointing to another shelf, That bag's got 46 of them! Or was it 47?

Reu inspects the beholder corpse, poking each eye in turn with his stubby little gnome fingers before studiously claiming "Purple has the highest energy of all visible light, were you aware of that optics fact? How much for this beholder corpse?"

Okay, Bhoors and Amelia heading on to the Skewered Dragon, correct?

Oh no, no, no. The beholder is my favorite! You'd best be aiming to buy my business from me first! The gnome puffs on his pipe, matter-of-factly.

He holds up one finger "A single stalk. One eye. Think of it, a person with one eye is always much more interesting than the usual fare. Any old Joe can scrape up a beholder corpse, but a beholder corpse missing an eye? Now thats instantly got an aura of mystery, does it not?? So, the price...for one eye?"

anything else of note here that may catch Marquez’s distracted eye?

Investigation: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Consternation grips the gnome's features, and he crosses his arms explaining "I want you to know, everything that's happened since I entered this establishment has been quite remarkable. Twenty gold is a price among friends, and I'm flattered and comforted by your temperance and judgement. At this time, however, I will have to write you an i.o.u!!" he begins scrawling out a little note in fantastic penmanship. He does include with the note the 1 gp for the drow snuff.

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

Reu, make a Charisma (Persuasion) check. He does not look amenable to I.O.U.s...

@Marquez, not so much. There are various curiosities, but those listed for Damine seem to be the more expensive of them...

--

Bhoors and Amelia head off to the Skewered Dragon, which is only a block or so away, if memory serves...

They follow Fillet Lane until they see Net Street crossing.

The Skewered Dragon looks like a ruin. Both of its front-facing windows are smashed, and a ship’s anchor is lodged in the roof. Through the windows, you can see a group of haggard patrons drinking from huge tankards.

Having only heard of the place before, it takes the two of you a few seconds to realize that this is how it is supposed to look!

Bhoors grabs a table and takes survey of the room. These folk are mostly dock workers and street toughs. The rowdier the better, you think.

There are cat-calls and grabby hands as the barmaid passes through. She smacks the hands away and delivers drinks before coming up to Bhoors and Amelia, What'll ya have?

Bhoors spends time laughing and carrying on with the patrons sharing bits of news.

persuasion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 Just rubbing elbows for now.

After awhile he pulls his lute from his back and strums absently as he talks with the others. The strumming turns over time into a slow but percussive tune, that suggests tedium and drudgery of the workaday life of heavy labor, but with a rough edge of angst. Every few measures he thumps his fingers against the lute adding a rhythm to the song. He finally lets out a song inviting commiseration.

Performance: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

The Song

Well I know, I miss more than hit
With a face that was launched to sink
An' I seldom feel, the bright relief
It's been the worst day since yesterday.

His voice is raw and full of emotion.

If there's one thing I have said
Is that the dreams I once had, now lay in bed
As the four winds blow, my wits through the door
It's been the worst day since yesterday.

The sadness of the song gives way to its real force a sort of kindred call to all those who feel put upon by life.

Fallin' down to you sweet ground
Where the flowers they bloom
Well it's there I'll be found
Hurry back to me, my wild cailín
It's been the worst day since yesterday.

The returning phrase becomes like armor. Celebrating that through spit and vinegar 'we'll give back to life as hard as it gives.'

Though these wounds have seen no wars
Except for the scars I have ignored
And this endless crutch, well it's never enough
It's been the worst day since yesterday.

Hell says hello, well it's time I should go
To pastures green, that I've yet to see
Hurry back to me, my wild cailín
It's been the worst day since yesterday.

You mean like this.

Performance: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Bhoors chuckles as one of the workers in the back calls out for something a bit more lively. He begins a swifter strum and lays into a the rhythm of a Mooshea's Jig.

Drinking Song

While In the merry month of may from me home I started
Left the girls of Tuam nearly broken hearted
Saluted father dear, kissed my darling mother
Drank a pint of beer, my grief and tears to smother
Then off to reap the corn, leave where I was born
Cut a stout black thorn to banish ghosts and goblins;
Bought a pair of brogues rattling all of the bogs
And fright'ning all the dogs on the rocky road to Callidyrr
One, two, three four, five

Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
All the way to Callidyrr, Whack follol de rah!

Bhoors begins to move among the crowd dancing with those who seem to be enjoying themselves.

In Mullingar that night I rested limbs so weary
Started by daylight next morning blithe and early
Took a drop of the pure to keep me heart from sinking;
Thats a Paddy's cure whenever he's on drinking
They hear the lassies smile, laughing all the while
At me curious style, 'twould set your heart a bubblin'
Asked me was I hired, wages I required
'till I was almost tired of the rocky road to Callidyrr
One, two, three four, five

Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
All the way to Callidyrr, Whack follol de rah!

In Callidyrr next arrived, I thought it's such a pity
To be soon deprived a view of that fine city
Then I took a stroll, all among the quality;
Me bundle it was stole, all in a neat locality
Something crossed me mind, when I looked behind
No bundle could I find upon me stick a wobblin'
Enquiring for the rogue, said me Connaught brogue
Wasn't much in vogue on the rocky road to Callidyrr
One, two, three four, five

Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
All the way to Callidyrr, Whack follol de rah!

From there I got away, me spirits never falling
Landed on the quay, just as the ship was sailing
The Captain at me roared, said that no room had he;
When I jumped aboard, a cabin found for Paddy
Down among the pigs, played some hearty rigs
Danced some hearty jigs, the water round me bubbling;
When off Holyhead I wished meself was dead
Or better far instead on the rocky road to Callidyrr
One, two, three four, five

Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
All the way to Callidyrr, Whack follol de rah!

The boys of Liverpool, when we safely landed
Called meself a fool, I could no longer stand it
Blood began to boil, temper I was losing;
Poor old Erin's Isle they began abusing
"Hurrah me soul" says I, me Shillelagh I’ll apply
Galway boys were nigh and saw I was a hobble in
With a load "hurray !" joined in the affray
We quickly cleared the way for the rocky road to Callidyrr
One, two, three four, five

Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
All the way to Callidyrr, Whack follol de rah!

Bhoors moves about dancing and carrying on ending the jig in a chaotic flurrish.
