It's why I made sure to give him a family member nearby once I decided on Vildeis.
Kaeldron |
So I’m thinking I know what I need to do...
Shield +1 (1000 gold)
Shield Bashing: increases damage by two size categories (3000 gold)
Shield Spike +1 (2000 gold)
Shield Spike Bane Evil Outsiders (6000 gold)
Shield Spike Glamered (4000...just so that it never needs to be off of him and thus never Unarmed)
Hope we find good loot. Because looking at these prices, if I put everything into this plan, it should be complete by lvl7. And that’s the current plan. :p
Really seeing this campaign as one where “Evil Outsider Bane” & “Holy” are going to be very important enchantments to have.
Davok Scarred-Sight |
Guys, so I'm pretty old-school in terms of D&D, so aasimar and tieflings are still pretty new to me. In most cases, is it easy to differentiate between demons and tieflings?
Davok Scarred-Sight |
It's fairly clear they have some kind of fiendish taint in their ancestry. But tieflings are common enough in this neck of the woods I'd say you would generally know... as to resistances and things that's where knowledge planes comes in.
Yeah, not looking for a tactical advantage, I just don't want to have Davok chop a dude in half when everyone else is thinking he's just like an odd-looking elf or something. Thanks for the clarification.

Kaeldron |
Well...overlaps on mercies aren’t a bad thing. I didn’t take sickened because we are all immune to disease...though on reflection I see that doesn’t mean immune to sickened exactly. Given that Kaeldron has a healing centered archetype and VMC, I think I’ll switch to sickened. It might even prove useful. Feel free to take it too, I don’t want to kick you off of it!
Though I would recommend fatigued for you. You can’t rage while fatigued. Your mercy would let you remove that condition on yourself, which would be really useful. Also when you get a rage power it’d give you minor rage cycling, which is good Class synergy.

Yeah, I find "sickened" effects to be most common from monster abilities that cause excessive pain, not anything to do with getting a cold.

Oh dang, excellent point. I'm switching to fatigued.

This weekend my family’s going to be super busy so I’m not going to have a chance to make a post. I should be back to regular posting by Monday evening. Feel free to bot me (with great panache and flair!) if necessary.
Thanks!

Pretty much the same with me, except substitute "great panache and flair" with "unfounded faith and conviction."
Claire Calloway |
Today will be the last post I make for a few days, as I'm spending the holidays with my family. I will resume regular posting on the 27th (although I might be able to squeak in a post on the 24th).
All the best, and Happy Holidays!
Claire Calloway |
Sick. Not sure I'll be on again for a day or two. You can bot me as needed.
Kaeldron |
Faced this foe in a different group. A paladin, hunter, wizard and an oracle. The wizard outright died against the half-orc. Interesting to see how at early levels the Paladin party smacked him down in one round.
Fredric Fulk |
We're Heaven's Wrecking Crew. :D
Davok Scarred-Sight |
Once out of earshot of the prisoner, Kaeldron said to Claire ”But you don’t know it. While I hope that he is redeemable that may not be the case. If we are not just, as well as merciful, we risk allowing our mercy to cause harm to innocents.”
Oh man, that probably means Kaeldron's out of earshot of Davok, too. It's probably for the best. :)
Davok doesn't see any difference between this guy and the crazy dwarf they encountered underground. He's not protesting because he fears delaying the party's joining the resistance even more, which to him has the bigger potential for fighting evil.
Fredric Fulk |
So, story?
Fredric Fulk |
I thought it might be that. Back into it hopefully!
Sariel Daore |
Just realized Sariel is, in fact, not immune to fear! The Divine Hunter archetype trades that out in exchange for an archery aura and a six pack of Miller Light. Oh well..

Well...at least you get the +4 bonus as you’ll likely be close to someone else
Davok Scarred-Sight |
Here's a classic paladin joke: How is Miller Light like having sex in a canoe?

GM Kevin O'Rourke |
Posting will be slow the next few days but I wanted to get a post in.
I had an idea I'd like to throw out there. For those with significant characters in their background that have been rescued so far would people like to consider adding them as cohorts, a bit like the squire feat with a few changes, without it become leadership and without being restricted to a martial class. Claire's mother could be a swashbuckler or perhaps a cleric for example? I'd give this squire* feat out for free and those who don't want to manage a second character in combat they can take another low enough level feat like toughness, power attack etc.
Not all those have an NPC they might want to bring along but perhaps they might like to befriend someone at the Defenders heart or a significant NPC.
It's an idea I want to pitch at the group to see how people would feel about it.
Sariel Daore |
I think it's an awesome opportunity for those who are motivated enough to roleplay a cohort. It would be fun to read! I'm sort of strapped for time as it is and wouldn't take a cohort, but I definitely wouldn't argue with a bonus feat!
Kaeldron |
I love the idea. It sounds like it wound add a lot to the story for some PCs. Davok’s sister comes to mind.
It would also shore up our knowledge skill deficiencies...
Davok Scarred-Sight |

I had originally envisioned Draghis as an NPC to run a temple that she and Davok started using the Downtime rules, but with Kenabres in its current state, that's obviously not feasible, and I don't know if the AP will take us to another place that could be an appropriate base for us. So I like the idea of re-purposing her so that Davok retains some sort of interaction with her.
And eyes off my sister, Kaeldron.
Kaeldron |

Kaeldron’s eyes are the eyes of purity. His hands the hands of justice! His feet the feet of retribution! His...wait, what were we talking about?
Oh yeah. Right. Your sister is hot.
Davok Scarred-Sight |
I'm also wondering if this would kill the paladins-only vibe we set out with, so if anyone doesn't like the idea, feel free to speak up. There's no hard feelings.
Only soft feelings.
Fredric Fulk |
I'm cool with it, though currently I can't think of whom Fredric might pal with.
Will think on it more.
Kaeldron |
I’ll grab power attack. Otherwise couldn’t get it until lvl5, which is really late. Plus...the only follower Kaeldron could get via his background is his dad. Which is weird and wouldn’t make sense.
Any idea what class Davok’s sister will be?
“A squire can only take levels in a class that grants proficiency with all martial weapons as a class feature, such as paladin, gunslinger, cavalier, or fighter. She cannot multiclass, though she may take any archetype she qualifies for.”
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/hybrid-classes/skald/
A Skald would work and would be really useful. Might fit her well too.
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/fighter/archetypes/paizo-figh ter-archetypes/weapon-bearer-squire/
This archetype is pretty fluffy for a squire

Yeah, Skalds are great with squire feat. I’m a big fan of Spell Warriors

Squire classes that I can think of:
Fighter
Barbarian
Bloodrager
Cavalier
Ranger
Paladin
Slayer
Warpriest
Skald
Magus
Vigilante
Vampire Hunter
Swashbuckler
Gunslinger
Hunter
Skald, of course, seems to be the most mechanically useful at lvl-3. But a Warpriest could do useful things with blessings as well.
As an example. Let’s say that Sariel meets an old friend who is a Warpriest with Good Blessings.
“Holy Strike (minor): At 1st level, you can touch one weapon and bless it with the power of purity and goodness. For 1 minute, this weapon glows green, white, or yellow-gold and deals an additional 1d6 points of damage against evil creatures. During this time, it’s treated as good for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction. This additional damage doesn’t stack with the additional damage from the holy weapon special ability.”
Pretty darn good to go on his bow! Especially as for action economy it wouldn’t stop him from shooting.
Then make the Warpriest a Bulwark
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/hybrid-classes/warpriest/archetypes/paizo- warpriest-archetypes/bulwark-warpriest-archetype/
His job? Bless Sariel’s bow. Then stand in front of the archer with a tower shield and spear. He uses his turns to cast bless and divine favor to buff the archer and protect him from enemies who get too close. And once his 2 spells per day are gone? Guidance, to give Sariel +1 to Hit. So long as he doesn’t die you’d get at least +1 to hit.
And to keep him alive: Fullplate, Tower Shield, Shield Focus. With Dex12 that’s AC25.
Then...with Sariel having a Buckler take this feat for both of you
It gives him AC26 and you +2 AC. Furthermore “If an adjacent ally with this feat uses a tower shield to grant total cover, you also benefit if an attack targeting you passes through the edge of the shield.”
——
So you’re offense goes up considerably and you’re defense is increased as well.
Davok Scarred-Sight |
When I first conceived of Draghis, I envisioned her as a cleric. Her role was meant to be more of a shepherd of the flock type, not a crusader type. A skald or a warpriest wouldn't be completely out of character for a warrior of Vildeis (or at least the Vildeis that I'm creating head-canon for), but she was always meant to be a spell-focused cleric.
Plus, Kevin had said that it would be an adjusted Squire feat, not limiting it to a martial class.
a bit like the squire feat with a few changes, without it become leadership and without being restricted to a martial class.
I've been waiting to hear what other changes to the feat Kevin is proposing before I get too hung up on any particular concept or build, however. I'll consider classes other than a cleric, but it might not be satisfying as such because her concept already pretty embedded in my head.
Claire Calloway |
Yeah, I want my mother to be drunk off her ass and good in a bar brawl, if not much else. That's how I pictured her, anyway. And not pious at all. She slept with a god by accident, and supposes that's pretty cool. Haha. Haven't had time it give it much more thought than that, yet.
