Anchoring Aura (Su)

At 8th level, a paladin’s aura hampers extra-dimensional travel by evil outsiders. The aura extends 20 feet from the paladin. Evil outsiders attempting to use abilities such as dimension door, plane shift, or teleport to leave or enter the aura must succeed at a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 the paladin’s level + the paladin’s Charisma modifier); failure means the ability does not function, as if the outsider were affected by dimensional anchor. The aura functions only while the paladin is conscious, not if she is unconscious or dead.

Alternatively, as an immediate action, the paladin can expend one use of her smite evil ability to target an evil outsider within 30 feet with dimensional anchor. A targeted dimensional anchor persists even if the paladin is unconscious or dead.

This ability replaces aura of resolve.

——-

Losing Aura of Resolve hurts. But...that ability is really useful in an all Paladin party.

At 8th level, a paladin is immune to charm spells and spell-like abilities. Each ally within 10 feet of her gains a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against charm effects.

This ability functions only while the paladin is conscious, not if she is unconscious or dead.

I amn't sure if ye did but I usually put Kaeldron and either Fredric or Davok up front (or both if space allows) since they all have great flat footed AC. Claire if it's a really wide area as she's melee. Sariel being dedicated ranged will often be a bit further back with your squishy allies.

An idea with some of your new abilities if ye are going for a proper marching order is for Fredric to be in the back to have a heavily armoured combat guy there who can redeploy frighteningly quickly.

That makes sense.

To write down a marching order for convenience, how about this?

Kaeldron - Davok - Claire - Sariel - Fredric

Yeah, between Burst Through and Impossible Speed, a crowd is no real impediment to Fredric reaching the battle. :)

Sounds like the best marching order to me.

Kaeldron is the best to be up front. Anyone who can ambush us likely has sneak attack damage, which he can ignore via Windy Escape. And Frederic moves so fast that he could be left behind to tie his shoes and still reach combat first.

Though Davok will he mounted soon. Which means he’ll also have movement 50. Meaning that we could, at that point, do this:

Kaeldron/Claire - Sariel/Draghis - Frederic/Davok

That way the back line is protected, and the two heavy-hitters can easily Flank anyone who hits the front.

Plus if Claire can get a breastplate, or (eventually) mithril plate, she will have flat footed AC equal to or greater than Kaeldron’s.

Davok is already mounted, and when I get a chance to level him up, he'll be tied with Kaeldron for the best Perception bonus. I'm not sure if positioning is so important for Perception, but a good score in the front and a good score in the back seems prudent.

Really curious to see what Claire and Sariel decide.

Plenty of cool choices, but I'm taking 'contingent channel energy.' She's going to use it to automatically use channel energy if she or one of her companions would be reduced to 0 or fewer hp. *pointedly looks at her feeble familiar that thinks he's a melee powerhouse*

@Davok:

But that’s what makes it fun. I mean, I run a Fortune Finder Infiltrator Ranger (6) Constable Cavalier Order of the Guard (1) Vampire Hunter (1) Stalwart Defender (4). The sheer amount of book keeping is a hassle. But it means that we can do stuff that you can’t do in 5e.

I mean...heck. I’ve been tempted to run an old dwarf who fights with his beard. Something that can be done using RAW in pathfinder. I’d like to see 5e let you do that!

I don't disagree. And I'll note that PbP sometimes makes the bookkeeping harder. If Kevin had been able to correct the 66 to 6d6 right away because we were all at the same table, we could have carried on more naturally.

Anyway, my friend would argue that if you have a more rules-light game, you can theoretically do anything at all, not just the options outlined in a book. Actions not covered by the rules are adjudicated on the fly using the existing mechanics as guidance. And in a 3.X game, you can only do that up until the rule becomes covered in some new trait or archetype's special ability somewhere. I can't say he's wrong, but after playing Castles & Crusades (and now transitioning to 5E), in practice, players can be more hesitant to try off-the-book things because it's hard to gauge the action's likelihood of success since you can't really determine what chance of success the GM is going to assign to the action with having a "discussion" about it first.

And while I was a huge fan of PF1E combining all of 3.5's combat maneuvers into one mechanic, putting so many disparate actions into a single advantage/disadvantage mechanic that C&C and 5E do does take away a lot of the game's flavor.

On the other hand, when I'm reading the rules for a new system (right now I'm reading the Numenera rules) it's nice to have a more streamlined and consistent mechanic for most things that still allows options. I'm playing in a Powered by the Apocalypse game on these boards, and it does a nice job of having streamlined mechanics and a plethora of colorful character options to choose from. It's a better balance than most games I've found, anyway.

This fortress is deadly. How much healing have we used thus far? A lot, I’d say. I think that many groups we need to treat this as an actual siege, with regularly falling back to rest.

Doing some work on the loot sheet...

Who set this loot sheet up? It doesn't look like meloriel's from the RotR campaign. Anyway, I valued everything at one unit. I forgot to account or the number of units in column B.

Kevin:
- There's a couple places where the loot just lists "flail" (one and two), so I'm assuming heavy flail unless you tell me otherwise.
- Does the holy symbol of Kabriri from this fight have any significant value?

Sariel, there's some magic arrows on the list you'd probably be interested in.

Draghis is going to claim that wand of hold person.

Lets go with heavy for the flails.

I don't think the holy symbol has huge significance. Lets assume it's a silver one.
