GM Fez |
After some discussion you have a plan that sounds workable. While the majority wait on the porch Elaril and Berato set up. Soon, duplicates of you scramble out of the house and rush down the road. The screeching of the giant eagle grows louder and you make out its form as it dives on its 'prey'. Moments before it touches the illusion Torag's blessing fills its mind, causing it to brake sharply and land. It looks around, seemingly confused, before bowing in your direction then flying off to the west. Combat avoided!
1d100 ⇒ 4
<21: 1d100 ⇒ 38
You begin your day of travel in earnest, moving towards the next homestead on your map. With all of the crazy animals you've been experiencing keeping an eye out is the least amount of precaution you can take. It pays off with dividends when a lowing is heard coming from the south, revealing a maddened Auroch lowering its head and about to charge!
Marcus: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Vindlér: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Berato: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Vindlér, Elaril, Anthys, Vegazi, Berato, Marcus
Auroch
Vindlér Far-seer |
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
Before the auroch charges the group, Vindler points out the red-tailed hawk and the rustling of the undergrowth that has followed them all morning. "Could be the source of our unfriendly animal encounters," he suggests. "Perhaps after we deal with this one, we see what we can see about them, eh?"
For the moment, however, the auroch poses an immediate threat, so Vindler raises his shield in defense, hoping to give Berato a chance to deal with the auroch as he had with the eagle.
Total defense with shield wall = AC27
Anthys |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
"Good eyes Vindlér... we'll deal with them soon enough."
Anthys falls into a familiar formation with Vindlér.
Total Defense with Shield Wall = AC 33, or 34 from Heart of the Streets if adjacent to 2+ allies.
Berato Aquilinus |
Berato casts the same spell on the auroch hoping top relieve him of his enchantment!
Marcus Volso |
Perception, Scion: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 9 + 2 = 15
Marcus will form up next to Berato, and ready an action to aid his AC if he is attacked by the Auroch in the course of casting his spell.
Anthys |
Anthys points to the undergrowth and approaches, sword and shield ready, hopefully with Vindlér and Marcus by his side. He looks for any hidden foe or any tracks.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 +2 from Scion if Marcus or Berato is adjacent.
Vindlér Far-seer |
Vindler follows alongside Anthys. "The hawk has fled to the south," he says, "But let's see if its master has sent other minions ahead to track us." He presses his hand to his chest to call on Abadar's guidance, then looks hard into the undergrowth.
Using Touch of Law, then making a Perception check for a total of a 24 Perception check to see if anyone is hiding in the bushes.
Berato Aquilinus |
Survival, Scion, Guidance: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 2 + 1 = 16
Anthys |
"Vegazi, can you help us follow these tracks?"
Is she a ranger? Or just a wilderness-oriented fighter. Either way, probably has a pretty good Survival.
Anthys will Aid Another on the best tracker.
Survival to Aid Another, Scion: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 20
Vindlér Far-seer |
I don't know what Vegazi's skills look like, but with the Track inquisitor ability and Guidance, my Survival is effectively a +9, which I think makes me the best tracker in our group. Hooray!
Vindler quickly spots the hoof tracks and begins tracing them through the undergrowth after looking to his deity for guidance.
No material components for Guidance, so I should be good to cast that on myself.
Survival, Track, Guidance, Aid (Anthys): 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 23
GM Fez |
Vegazi nods and helps out where she can.
Survival aid: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
With your entire party helping along it is easy to pick up the subtle clues left by whatever was watching you. You follow the trail for a couple of hours, keeping a wary eye out for ambush. Eventually you find yourselves on a well used game trail.
Vindlér Far-seer |
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
As Vindler comes to the edge of the game trail, he looks ahead and suddenly thrusts out an arm in front of his companions, signaling for them to stop where they are. Without a word, he draws out a wand and passes it over his eyes.
Used wand of See Invisibility.
Berato Aquilinus |
Upon hearing Vindler's discovery, Berato casts communal delay poison on Elaril, Marcus, Vindler and Anthys.
"You need not fear its sting anymore; Vindler: you should seize it with your gauntlets and pin it down for Anthys!!"
Elaril |
oops my bad. Assuming Vindlers instructions are precise enough....
Elaril casts Glitterdust in the area over the bushes....
Vindlér Far-seer |
"Attack!" Vindler leads the charge as Elaril's spell brings the imp into full visibility and also removes its sight. He rushes ahead and leaps to seize the infernal creature around its skinny little neck.
Grapple: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Anthys |
Anthys draws the MW Consecrated Silver Warhammer and smashes it across the imp's head.
Attack, Scion, PA: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 - 2 = 17 And against its flat-footed AC with a -2 penalty, right?
Damage, PA, Consecrated: 1d8 + 3 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 4 + 6 = 15
GM Fez |
Vindlér: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Elaril: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Berato: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Marcus: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Vegazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Imps: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Ilka: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Umber: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Vindlér grabs a hold of the imp, allowing Anthys to crush it with his hammer. It still twitches feebly in the dwarf's grasp, but most of the fight has gone out of it. Its screeching seems to have attracted attention from nearby.

Vindler continues holding onto the flailing imp and attempts to pin the devil to the ground.

As you continue your preparations a boar comes rushing through the underbrush, preparing to gore you. Everyone is prepared however and attacks as soon as it rushes in.

Thrum!: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 1 = 20

Vindlér Far-seer |
Vindler moves up behind Anthys and Berato and grants Abadar's blessing to his fellow holy servant.
Move up and Touch of Law on Berato.
GM Fez |
The blue boar on the map is actually a giant spider, just don't have access to a computer that'll let me drop new tiles in.
The chanting coalesces into an enormous spider, crouched above your party on a nearby boulder. A new chant starts, coming from the orc-blooded tiefling standing near the fire pit. The large boar near her rushes forward as the spider throws a web at Anthys.
Webs!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 Burst check for the webs is DC 14. They've only got 2 hp.
As Anthys gets wrapped in thick sticky webbing the boar tries to gore the man.
Gore!: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Damage (?): 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Order 3rd round
Vindlér, Elaril, Anthys
Ilka, Umber, Spider
Marcus, Berato, Vegazi
Anthys |
Anthys is base AC 25, then +2 Shield Wall and +1 Heart of the Streets for a 28. Even entangled he is still AC 26, so the boar misses him. Don't think the boar (or spider) are evil so Lastwall Phalanx wouldn't apply.
Berato Aquilinus |
Berato attacks the boar that threatens them, keeping the shield wall with Anthys.
MW Consecrated Silver Warhammer, Scion, Divine Favor: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 for 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 silver bludgeoning damage.
GM Fez |
Yeah, that's why I try to put question marks behind damage if I'm not sure what will or won't apply. Also, Anthys, I didn't mean to ignore your readied attack, but it doesn't get through Umber's AC and I forgot to mention it in the description.
The boar squeals as Berato's hammer takes it in the side, crunching on some of its ribs.
