Géatan Émond |
Gaétan listens at Tortuga's advice. The dwarf looks like an old sage and elders have good advices.
reflex: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (20) + 22 = 42
Close your eyes a little Géatan and feel the current.
The archer opens his imprecise senses. He hears the people who want to go away, the heat on his skin, the humidity of the fog.
A click can be hear.... A heat comes very close... Géatan knows what it is ... a gun! Like the Plasma cannon from his experience in Numeria!
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
"It's like sailing through a thick fog, Géatan! You have to sense the shifting currents of air around the obstacles rather than rely on your eyes!"
As Geatan hears Tortuga's words, he shuts his eyes and, unbeknownst to him, the heat on his skin that he felt was actually the powerful blow of a gust of wind down the entirety of a hallway that he was flying through! He feels something in the wind shift and he quickly braces against the wall and hears the sound of something smashing against a wall. He opens his eyes and finds the wooden remains of a box that flew through the air and was about to impact with him--it seems that Tortuga's words of wisdom were more literal than Geatan initially thought...
In case you guys didn't catch it, that was multiple castings of guards and wards, and I took all of those flavors for your checks from actual things in the spell.
Amidst the shards of the box is a headband and a note--apparently another commissioned magic item! Geatan grabs the headband and note and flies off to rejoin his allies.
That was the last of the magic items, so we're moving on.
Nox Neuropastum |
If I could wear that headband, I suspect I could use the will boost, if no one else can use it or wants to.
Nox keeps his head down.
This blasted place is huge! And I don't think it's just the terrible design!
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
The maze of hallways finally gives way to a room. Polished flagstones and meticulous masonry line the floor and walls of this atrium, whose mirrored ceiling and small skylights seem positioned to channel sunlight throughout the entire chamber. The floor bears an intricate serpent design inlaid with silver, and two sets of stairs ascend to a balcony and two heavy doors. Map Updated
Amid this mirrored hall is a single man. This grizzled, relatively unkempt (compared to other individuals you’ve met within the Aspis Building) man is doing push-ups, whispered words leaving his mouth but the words dissipate soon after leaving his lips, leaving you all hearing soft mumbling.
He finally notices you all and springs to his feet. He glares at you all, sweat dripping off of his brow.
”What the fu—Oh right.” With a frustrated grumble the man reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a set of index cards and starts reading from them, his voice a complete monotone and devoid of any emotion. ”’Welcome to the Argent Atrium, the grand pinnacle of the Aspis Building. The Atrium was created on the generous funding of the Patron Delavia’—Ah, screw it!” He rips the index cards into pieces and throw them to the ground. He pulls out a flask from his coat pocket and takes a swig from it. He then pulls out a small object and—oddly enough—begins to file his nails. You notice that his fingernails are sharpened to a point, like claws.
”I’m Mr. Khayn, head of security here. I suddenly learned that a group of misfits have been completely demolishing my security measures, disrupting the spirits of the Gallery of Fortune, and climbing up the ranks of the Aspis, literally. Needless to say, I’m more than a little f*cking annoyed! Fortunately for you folks, the people who pay me said that I have to be ‘fair,’ so here’s your ultimatum: Get the f*ck outta my sights or I’m gonna make you get the f*ck outta my sights!”
Nox Neuropastum |
Nox looks around the atrium and sees the distinct lack of shadows. Knowing he's gonna be in trouble once the fight start, he uses the horse's shadow to hide as he pulls and prepares his lantern, sliding off of Sentry and preparing to light the lantern once battle joins...

I have drink the blueberry.
This guy and Ambrus could be best buddy. I like him for the moment. Time to use his language.
Gaétan says in a corse tone.
We are going nowhere! We have killed no agent when we could have cause a bloodbath. We are here because a little s%~! in your rank called Suliji Peshar.
This b+@&+ has used assets from the consortium to do a terrorist attack in the grand lodge. Worse, we suspect that she was an informant that sent us in a goose chase against her ex-collaborators who are important assets of the consortium worsing the very bad relation between our two s!$~hole that we work for.
We have proof that she exploited a prick called Alexander hisnamesistoo long and that she is the cause of most of troubles you see at the moment. We suspect that the c*%* aims to put some lead in your sugardaddys to be one herself.
And we're gonna f@#&ing save them, whether you want it or not. Even if I am sure that one of your patrons is a motherf#!+ing archdevil or something.

@Nox, feel free to take the headband for Wis.
Sir Hendric goes to his stump speech.
"It is as my colleague said. We are from the Pathfinder Society and are in pursuit of a common enemy. Out of respect for your illustrious founder Jhandorage Vaulnder Alexayn, we would seek to help you by joining forces to defeat this Suliji Peshar."
Auto-aid on Diplomacy.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Khayn blinks in confusion at Geatan.
"Whoa there, soldier! There's no need to be swearin' like a sailor; I only caught about half of that. You!" He points at Hendric. "Can you explain what this elf just said but with about 75% less profanity?"
Gotta admit, I laughed way too much at the "Alexander hisnameistoolong"! That was really freaking funny!
Sir Hendric the Vigilant |
"Your colleague Suliji Peshar is in the process of attempting to become a Patron by assassinating one of the current Patrons. Is that standard Consortium procedure for a promotion?
All those simultaneous attacks on Aspis properties around the city? That was her.
Normally, we wouldn't get involved, but Peshar has worsened relations between our two organizations. Turning our rivalry into a war. I don't think this is beneficial to the Consortium either, so I propose we work together to stop her."
Not sure if you need Diplomacy from me. If so, +18 with Heroism.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Treating it as Hendric’s aid to Géatan
Mr. Khayn scratches his stubble in a deep thought.
”So, you’re saying that not one, but two people managed to break into this building—one of which did so without my knowledge—and that the only way to take care of them is to send a group of heavily armed, unauthorized people who work for the Consortium’s archenemies into the most secured portion of the Aspis Building that even I’m not authorized to go to?”
Sir Hendric the Vigilant |
"You have the right of it. Though 'Archenemies' is perhaps a bit strong, we aren't Rovagug cultists or Galtian anarchists. I have fought alongside Aspis in the past, such as at Azlant Ridge. I imagine your employers will thank you for bending the rules. Together we can defeat Peshar. What do you say?"
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
The grizzled Aspis laughs loudly—a belly-laugh that reminds you all of Marcos Farabellus during your training days.
”I think ‘archenemies’ is actually about right—did you forget about that Tapestry business all those years ago? The Patrons ain’t happy about that, and they tend to hold grudges.
“Look, I like to think that I’m not an unreasonable man, but put yourselves in my shoes: I’m a Goblinblood vet and have been doing this a long time, so I’ve seen some sh*t—see this leg? Wooden. Lost it and my eye in a tussle with a particularly savage bugbear. I’ve put my trust in someone before and do you want to know what happened? I got a knife in my back and friends that I had to put in the ground. So yeah, I’m a bit f*cking cynical.
“Don’t get me wrong, in a strange way, I like you guys, I think the efforts of Trade Prince al’Hakam and the Society itself keeps the Consortium on their toes and able to adapt—it keeps us from going soft. But I don’t come to your Grand Lodge and tell Mr. Valsin to stop giving mission assignments, or go to Magnimar and order Miss Heidmarch to stop examining Thassilonian ruins—well, we’ve tried, but that’s beside the point.”
Mr. Khayn puts away his nail file and pulls out his flask and takes a long drink from it before looking Hendric in the eye.
”My point is that I have a gods-damned job, and that job is to keep this place safe and secure of outside threats. I appreciate the tip you gave me—I’ll even overlook my urge to strangle you for creating weeks’ worth of resetting security measures in favor of a pat on the back and a ‘Well done!’—but right now I have five men and a shadow in front of me who I know for a fact are not supposed to be here as well as another intruder that may or may not be a total lie, but I’m going to be an adult and ask you one last time: Please get the f*ck outta my sights or I’m gonna make you get the f*ck outta my sights!”
Géatan Émond |
"Wait Hendric! We could be doing now her bidding! Now! I have been in this exact situation before and I am sure that in this moment we are doing Suliji alias Three rings work.
How can she enter the most secure place? Unless that for some reason, we are opening the door for her?
We have done our job now. What ever happens to the patrons is not our fault or our responsability."
Damn is the contract with this mummylord.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Geatan, the contract included bringing Alexayn either Suliji's or a Patron's head on a platter; you're not done yet.
You guys spent an hour getting from the Calikang encounter to the Argent Atrium, and spent 10 minutes talking to Mr. Khayn.
Mr. Khayn sighs before taking one final swig from his flask.
”Well, I must admit, you Pathfinders are determined, but I’ll show you mine by giving you a hell of a fight—I expect you to do the same.”
Mr. Khayn stomps his wooden leg on the ground three times.
”Ten-hut!”

It floats all the way up to the ceiling 20’ ceilings, by the way and casts an SLA.

If you guys got confused as to why the dice results of my last post changed, it's because I posted right after Geatan (Post 1) then did a separate post for the first round of combat (post 2), but because I did it as a separate post then the RNG for the dice results that I wrote the post around were different, so I copy-pasted Post 2 into Post 1 (which had the dice rolls that the post was based around) through the Edit function and then deleted Post 2; I promise that I wasn't cheating, I just made a slight mistake.

Géatan starts his attack against the stone man. Even in a corridor with a lot of people, his arrows go without any difficulty into his target.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Geatan is unable to identify the Stone Men, so he shoots nonlethally. As Geatan lets the attacks fly, his arrows bounce off of something midair in front of Kaldane and as such fail to hit the Stone Man! Would Geatan keep shooting?
Out of the snake sigil comes yet another ghostly and desiccated figure, but this one is a grown woman rather than a child and surrounded by humanoids rather than teddy bears—however, the two apparitions share a familial appearance, as if they were mother and child.
The grown woman also flies all the way to the ceiling and casts a spell.
With a pointed finger, the adult apparition sends one of its surrounding spirits flying right at Tortuga!

Whoops! Slight retcon. Just changing the positions of the ghosts so that they could actually do what I said they did. They have enough movement to get to their new positions and still be 20' above the ground.
EDIT: Bah! Mathed it wrong again! NOW they should be in the right spot! (Had to do a lot of Pythagorean Theorem) Sorry guys, my intended actions for the both of them was to fly to the ceiling, cast a spell, and send a spirit each at Tortuga--I just got the precise positioning (coupled with the range of their thing) incorrectly; I'm human too, everybody.

Because there was a slight bit of dialog right after "Suli, make him sleep.", can I have drank the potion that Suli has in his hand?
No, because as soon as you guys refuse to leave is when initiative is rolled; everything else was just flavor.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
"Tortuga - can you knock down Mr. Khayn?"
Technically, you can’t actually talk before you’ve acted.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Assuming that after the first shot Géatan switched to attacking lethally with Adamantine arrows: There is now a very tiny crack floating in the air right in front of Kaldane.
Additionally, I would like to state that adamantine doesn’t ignore hardness, it ignores hardness less than 20. Also, objects are immune to crits and take half damage from ranged attacks (except specifically siege weapons) (Sorry Géatan!).
Still waiting on Tortuga
EDIT: Bah! Just noticed that you meant the normal wall! Give me a sec.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Okay, gonna have to make a GM call here: Considering that this room specifically is made of stone (box-text mentioned masonry) and the fact that the Aspis Building is heavily fortified, then I would say that the wall is a foot thick (which isn’t completely outside the realm of possibility; real-world castles sometimes had 12 feet of stone walls). Considering that stone has 15 hp/inch, then it would have 180 hp per 5-foot-square. Géatan dealt 143 damage, which is halved to 71 because he’s using a ranged weapon, so he’s barely scratched the surface.
However, There is a paragraph that I find interesting that may not bode well for you guys:
Ineffective Weapons: Certain weapons just can’t effectively deal damage to certain objects. Likewise, most melee weapons have little effect on stone walls and doors, unless they are designed for breaking up stone, such as a pick or hammer.
EDIT: What the?! Table 7-14 specifically calls out a 1-foot masonry wall as having 90 hit points instead of 180?! The math there is wrong, but since it’s specifically called out then that’s what we have to use. So Géatan has “broken” that 5-foot square, so I’ll rule that you can get through with an Escape Artist check.
Tortuga |
Nearly ripped apart by the undead, Tortuga looks to Kaldane for healing.
Delay for Kaldane
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Mr. Khayn looks up toward the two spirits.
”Well, how gracious of you ladies to join us!”
The apparitions sneer at Khayn but do little else.
Mr. Khayn cracks his neck loudly and clicks his heels together and rushes at Hendric he’s not charging, before you ask
Sunder: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (14) + 30 = 44
Damage: 6d8 + 8 ⇒ (6, 4, 7, 7, 6, 5) + 8 = 43
Hendric watches in horror as Mr. Khayn scratches at Hendric’s belt and it falls to the ground! Hendric takes 38 damage and his belt is destroyed!
Khayn looks up at the knight and grins. ”I’m sorry; did you need that?”
Kaldane pounds on an invisible wall and shouts ”Can’t exactly heal you right now, Tortuga!” Invisible wall shown by the orange line
FYI, Hendric, I treated your belt as being a generous 1-inch thick strand of leather (5 hit points) and he does indeed have Greater Sunder and the ability to ignore some of an object’s hardness. And before you ask, the bonus to hardness and HP from having an enhancement bonus only applies to weapons, armor, and shields.

The shaitan next to Xon takes a surprised step back.
”Je v bezvědomí!”
“Zapomněl jste na smlouvu, že?”
“Smlouva? Jo jo!”
“You forgot about the contract, didn’t you?”
“Contract? Oh yeah!”
The shaitan casts an SLA.

”There’s always one straggler, isn’t there?” Mr. Khayn groans. ”I wish I could stand up without them hitting me! And make them fabulous, soldier!” Khayn replaces his drill sergeant voice with a stunned silence. ”...Didn’t think I’d say that today...”
“Neither did I...”
“What was that?!”
“Neither did I, sir!”
The shaitan casts two SLAs!
Suddenly an explosion of golden glitter erupts from near Hendric red circle is the point of origin
Xon affected on a 1: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Hendric Will: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (17) + 18 = 35
The ghostly child sends one of her teddy bears flying at Sentry!
Touch Attack vs. Sentry: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30
Mounted Combat: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (17) + 24 = 41
The apparition lets out a howl—a horrifying mix between a tantruming child and a banshee! She casts an SLA and rushes towards Hendric, palm outstretched and burning with black flames. Would provoke from Hendric—I’ll allow you to use the AoO from the above post even though it wasn’t Khayn that provoked.
Touch vs Hendric: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17
Mr. Khayn facepalms. ”He was right there! How could you miss that?!”
The infantile nemhain shrieks in anger at the man.

Sir Hendric the Vigilant |
I am NOT using Mounted Combat vs the child ghost, and not using Indomitable Mount vs the genie's spell. So that means Sentry is blind (for now) and also suffers the effects of the child ghost's teddy bear strike. Am instead saving my swift action to use Mounted Combat (or Snake Style) against the adult ghost's ranged attack on its turn. And if it doesn't attack either of us, I'll have a swift available on my turn.
But having heard Mr. Khayn's latest Wish, Sir Hendric will in fact use the AOO on the child ghost rather than saving it for Mr. Khayn.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
You...are aware that Mounted Combat isn’t an immediate action, right?
EDIT: Whoops! Guess I read an incorrect errata (which makes it funny that the link above actually says "an immediate action"). That makes the last sentence of Trick Riding really weird, then. Well, that's my bad! Give me a sec.
Sentry Fort: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Untyped Damage: 12d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 3, 3, 2, 1, 3, 4, 4, 6, 6, 6, 6) + 12 = 60
And, unfortunately, you can't crit a ghost...
Sir Hendric the Vigilant |
Sentry gets another +1 from Shake it Off, but not enough I expect. You are rolling bad saves for us. I know your ghost rolled a 1 to hit Sir Hendric, so it's not like it's too one-sided bad luck, but really...
With Géatan's 43 Knowledge (Religion), can he tell how often these things can use their various SLAs?
Totally Doesn't Count Sentry Fort Save Just for Kicks: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 11 + 1 = 31
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Harm, Slay Living, and Telekinesis thrice per day each, and Antilife Shell and Wall of Force once per day each.
The lesser one has the same SLAs except antilife shell, and it can only cast harm once per day. And it has a lower CL.
They also have regeneration that's negated by electricity or good, and they have their Bound Spirits (which lets them cast their touch spells as Quickened and Reached).
Géatan Émond |
If that worked for one wall....
Géatan continues to shoot for the other wall in from of him.
first attack: 1d20 + 29 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 29 + 1 = 42

Kaldane Starlight |
Okay, I am all caught up now, and prepared to take my next turn. Sorry about the delay folks, but it looks like we soldiered on pretty well!
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Géatan destroys the wall—anyone can walk through it without difficulty.
Glad to have you back, Kaldane!
The nemhain directs one of its spirits at Sentry!
Ranged Touch vs Sentry: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (9) + 21 = 30
Mounted Combat: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (8) + 24 = 32
The woman growls and casts an SLA and an invisible force strikes against Sentry!
Telekinetic Bull Rush vs Sentry: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (10) + 22 = 32 I’m desperately trying not to go into the dismounting rules—or the lack thereof—because of how...unspecified they are.
Khayn leaps to his feet swift action, doesn’t provoke. ”That works too, I suppose.”
Khayn steps over and Full-attacks Hendric/Sentry!
FYI, when there’s question on how much hit points and what material an item is made of, I err on the players’ benefit (headbands/belts/cloaks being made of leather and one inch thick, which they likely aren’t, but they may, meaning that’s what I’m going with)
Haste Unarmed vs Hendric: 1d20 + 28 - 2 - 5 ⇒ (13) + 28 - 2 - 5 = 34
Bludgeoning Damage: 6d8 + 9 ⇒ (6, 7, 2, 4, 4, 6) + 9 = 38
Hendric Fort: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (5) + 18 = 23 Success
Trip vs Sentry: 1d20 + 32 - 2 - 5 ⇒ (11) + 32 - 2 - 5 = 36
AoO from Greater Trip vs Sentry: 1d20 + 30 - 5 ⇒ (18) + 30 - 5 = 43
Bludgeoning Damage: 6d8 + 9 ⇒ (7, 7, 5, 6, 4, 1) + 9 = 39 Don’t know how tripping the mount will affect the rider, so I’ll have two separate things for if Hendric is prone and if he isn’t.
Sunder “off-hand” vs Hendric: 1d20 + 37 - 2 - 5 ⇒ (7) + 37 - 2 - 5 = 37
Slashing Damage to headband: 6d8 + 9 ⇒ (8, 7, 6, 7, 3, 3) + 9 = 43
Secondary Sunder vs Hendric: 1d20 + 37 - 2 - 5 - 5 ⇒ (6) + 37 - 2 - 5 - 5 = 31
Slashing Damage vs Cloak: 6d8 + 9 ⇒ (7, 8, 7, 2, 6, 7) + 9 = 46
Secondary Sunder “off-hand” vs Hendric: 1d20 + 37 - 2 - 5 - 5 ⇒ (11) + 37 - 2 - 5 - 5 = 36
Bludgeoning Damage vs Lance: 6d8 + 9 ⇒ (7, 5, 2, 3, 3, 4) + 9 = 33
Tertiary Sunder vs Hendric: 1d20 + 37 - 2 - 5 - 5 - 5 ⇒ (15) + 37 - 2 - 5 - 5 - 5 = 35
Bludgeoning Damage vs Lance: 6d8 + 9 ⇒ (7, 1, 4, 1, 8, 2) + 9 = 32
Tertiary Sunder “off-hand” vs Hendric: 1d20 + 37 - 2 - 5 - 5 - 5 ⇒ (10) + 37 - 2 - 5 - 5 - 5 = 30
Bludgeoning Damage vs Lance: 6d8 + 9 ⇒ (6, 3, 8, 6, 7, 3) + 9 = 42
Quaternary Sunder vs Hendric: 1d20 + 37 - 2 - 5 - 5 - 5 - 5 ⇒ (2) + 37 - 2 - 5 - 5 - 5 - 5 = 17
Bludgeoning Damage vs Lance: 6d8 + 9 ⇒ (8, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7) + 9 = 49
Hendric takes 117 damage, his headband and cloak are destroyed, and his Lance is broken (25/60 hp)—if he went prone with Sentry then his Lance is destroyed and Hendric takes 2 more damage.

Sir Hendric the Vigilant |
I think Sir Hendric would not have gone prone with Sentry - as best as I can tell this would be a case of the Soft Fall use of the Ride skill, which he auto-succeeds at.
So, sure, he's at -53 and dead with his most important gear broken or destroyed. And the dude kept attacking his stuff after he was dead.
