Botting Mao
Mao tries to get to the prisoners as fast as he can. Provoking from two of the thugs.
AoO To Hit (Pink): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 hits for Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
AoO To Hit (Purple): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 misses
He drops to the ground holding his hand out for the old man to grab.
GM Auke
The purple thug follows Mao back to the cliff and tries to push him into the sea!
However Mao is not as helpless as the thug thinks and the monk gives a backward kick from his prone position.
AoO: 1d20 + 3 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 4 + 1 = 20 for damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
confirm: 1d20 + 3 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 3 - 4 + 1 = 14 for damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9
The thug drops to the ground unconscious.
Another warhounder moves in and strikes Mao with his dogclaw shaped cestus.
To Hit: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 1 = 19 Hits!

Botting Travail
Travail drops his rapier and rapidly shoots 2 arrows
To Hit: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 1 = 16 Hits
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 1 = 8
The first arrow drops the closest gangmember.
The second arrow is a more difficult shot, but stepping on last turn's kill Travail manages to get aglimpse of the thug harassing Mao.
To Hit: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 1 - 4 - 4 = 15
Even with the cover and combat going on the shot hits!
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9
The second arrow also manages to take out an opponent.
"Three, One, Zero, Zero, Zero" Travail says with a smirk.

The gnome begins to concentrate moving his wand around as he chants
Hiccitus, piccitus, bonga kazee.
I want your attention, every thing
Continuing his chant he begins to cast silent image to create a wall of stone between the sorceress the paladin and the baddies
DC 17 will save if they interact with it.
Cloudia

The thug that slipped on the grease gets up and consequently hit by Cloudia's AoO.
If there was a performance going add 1 to the damage she did.

Nice idea, but you don't have line of sight. :-(

Putting Lukian in delay for now.
The blue thug steps towards Cloudia and claws her.
To Hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 Misses
Aurus drops his bow, draws his heavy flail and moves. With Travail's cries of victory, he decides to stop his performance.

"Oh no! You killed them."
Cloudia steps back, pulls out her wand, and zaps him with a magic missile, her now useless spear dangling from her semi-free hand.
Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Unfortunately the fury of her spell does not match the fury in her voice.

I currently have Cloudia on 0/16 hitpoints, so you might want to do something else.

I had her at 4. If she is at 0, she will pull out the wand of CLW instead and heal herself. I'll review the logs and get back to you, probably replacing this post.

Yep, confirmed the 16 points of damage. That means...
Cloudia backs up and briefly considers taking a shot with her want of magic missile, but realizes that if she does that she will collapse from the strain and do nobody any good. Instead she casts her heavenly fire on herself.

Anyone have rope? Cloudia does, but its too heavy for her to carry around normally and she only takes it with her when she can bring her mule.

Mao does have rope. Character sheet updated.
Mao takes out his rope and hands it to Cloudia. He then joins Travail, diving into the water.

Cloudia is on the other side of the map, so dropping it and having her (or another partymember) pick it up will be much faster!
Mao drops his rope, dives into the water and swims to the townsfolk.

Right. I originally posted that I was using the wand of CLW but realized that a failed UMD would knock her out and reposted almost immediately with the heavenly fire roll. I must say that heavenly fire ability has been far more useful than I thought it would. Saved butts more than a few times.
Cloudia rushes over to the rope.
"I'm coming!"
Cloudia was able to keep out of the warhornders reach in her mad dash.

Aurus looks at the one standing Warhounder with a cruel twinkle in his eye. "So obviously you're gonna hop right in there to help all those old men out, huh?" he says, swinging the flail menacingly. Suddenly, he drops the flail and draws his sword. "Those clothes look restricting, what if I help cut you out of them?"

With no warhounders to treaten your efforts, you can all just take 10 on swim and disable device checks.
The prisoners are dragged down to the sea bottom by the weighted chains, but Travail dives down and easily manages to open the locks. Mao helps the freed prisoners to stay afloat. Cloudia picks up the rope and ties one end to a tree and throws the other end down the cliff.
Everyone manages to get back to safety!
Combat is over!

"Thank you so much for saving us! My name is Yargos Gill, and these are my friends Tashen, Ilmn, and Samchar. I'm a historian and we're all members of the Absalom Reenactment Group of Historical events."
He pauses a moment while catching his breath.
"Absalom is in danger, but I'll need to give you a bit of background to explain, so please bear with me."
"Eight hundred years ago, a hidden armada of ships from Taldor floated off the coast of the Isle of Kortos like a thousand locusts, waiting for the signal to invade Absalom. The plan was simple but deadly: When the misty weather of Desnus took hold, a fifth column of infiltrators known as Black Echelon would weaken strategic defense points and destroy Absalom’s warning system from within. Once their bloody mayhem was complete, the hidden saboteurs planned to signal the fleet, welcoming them to lay siege to a city now brought to its knees."
After quickly looking if everyone is still with the story he continues.
"Prearranged signal lights were prepared for each phase of the offensive. A red flashing light was the sign for Black Echelon to poison Absalom’s granary. A violet light with three pulses was the signal for a prearranged team to destroy the city’s bell towers, and so on. But when the mists of Desnus descended, the prearranged signal lights never appeared. Unbeknownst to the hidden strike teams, the leaders of the Black Echelon infiltration cell were discovered and assassinated by brave heroes of Absalom. The signal lanterns lay dark, and the rest of Black Echelon sat idle. Several hours later, the fleet’s hiding place was discovered. A quick counterattack by Absalom’s navy ambushed the would-be invasion force and Taldor’s armada was destroyed to the last mast. In the coming weeks, Absalom’s constabulary rooted out the remaining hidden members of Black Echelon and put every last one to the sword."
Yargos face turns red as he continues.
"The failed invasion mission was called the Silent Tide. I acquired a copy of the ancient codebook detailing the signals for the Silent Tide and we replicated them on a lark. We soon watched in horror as Black Echelon roses from the dead and began to fulfill the tasks these spies swore to complete so very long ago. It seems that somehow these signals still hold power, even beyond death! If the same is true for the marines of the massive armada that now rest on the seafloor, once the Black Echelon finishes their final task, the invasion force will rise and the Silent Tide will roll across the city, bringing death to all of Absalom."
The old historian sighs.
"I tried to alert the city and avert disaster, but before I hurl the codebook into the sea to abort the Silent Tide once and for all, a crime lord named Nessian intervened. He took the book and he intends to manipulate the undead operatives and take advantage of the disruption their sabotage wreaks. As the bearer of the codebook, Nessian alone knows the lantern signal to abort. The codebook is his chance to blackmail the populace as he wishes and finally secure his place in Absalom’s underworld."
"Thousands and thousands will die if he isn't stopped!"
Cloudia

"Why, that's horrible! My entire family could be slaughtered if he starts this thing and does not cancel it! We have to tell the someone and have them stop it!"
Cloudia is fit to be tied. Wringing hands, tears, horrified expression, the whole works. She forgets all about her wounds and the need for healing.
Aurus Goldson

With Cloudia distracted, Aurus takes over tapping folks with his trusty wand. (Let me know how many charges people need?
When the story ends, he shakes his head. "Undead saboteurs? The criminal underground? And Taldans to boot??" He gives a beatific smile. "Feels like my birthday. These are some good heads for crackin'."

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

I'll deduct the three changes from Cloudia's wand. With those rolls she is still at -1 HP.

Mao nods his head in agreement. That does sound horrible. We must stop this Nessian fellow. Do you have any idea regarding his whereabouts?
Cloudia

We? Why is it always us that has to stop these types? Don't the gods know that we are not nearly powerful enough to take on a bunch of ghosts?
"This sounds more like a job for some seekers, not us. How could we possibly stop a whole army of ghosts? What if we failed? The whole city could be laid to waste! Do you really want all that responsibility?"
And I should go tell my family to leave the city.
GM Auke

"I don't know where Nessian would be. I try to keep as far away from criminals as I can! But there is a notorious information broker that goes by the name Grandmaster Torch here in the district who most probably knows!"
GM Auke
"This sounds more like a job for some seekers, not us. How could we possibly stop a whole army of ghosts? What if we failed? The whole city could be laid to waste! Do you really want all that responsibility?"
"Indeed stopping the assault when it's underway would be a task for greater heroes. Preventing it starts is a different thing altogether!"
Yargos looks at the corpses of the slain warhounders.
"Looks like they bit off more then they could chew when they resisted you! I think you will be more than capable to take care of Nessian."
Aurus Goldson

Aurus puffs up a little bit. "Yeah Clou! You hear that? We're capable. We're practically Seekers already." He looks back at Yargos. "So this Torch fella - where do we go to find him?"

Aurus puffs up a little bit. "Yeah Clou! You hear that? We're capable. We're practically Seekers already." He looks back at Yargos. "So this Torch fella - where do we go to find him?"
"His headquarters are hidden in the Siphons. I'll take you there!"
He looks at Aurus' armor.
"Nice protection you've got, however, it will slow us down, so you might want to take it off!"
As you start traveling towards Torches hideout, Aurus spots a red light flashing in a distinctive pattern from the top of a distant building, deep in the city.
“Nessian!” shouts Yargos. “He’s signaling Black Echelon—the undead! Six flashes of red—I remember that signal… By the gods! That’s the granary! Nessian has sent those monsters to poison the granary! C’mon! I don’t know how, but we’ve got to stop them—we’re the only ones who know what’s happening.”
Aurus Goldson
|
Aurus looks sadly down at his armor. "I'm totally gonna wind up wrestling another crocodile," he grumbles as he takes the time to disarmor, leaving him in a stained and sweaty undershirt.
As they reroute to the granary, Aurus breaks into a jog. "So you think we'll catch Nessian here? Just cut the whole thing off at the pass?"
GM Auke
Yargos explains that Black Echelon intends to lace the city’s reserve grain supply with a foul and forgotten poison called Gut Wither. In the event of a siege, Absalom would be left without its granary and the city could face the threat of mass starvation in the coming months.
As you get nearer, you find an eerie cold fog has suddenly descended on the adjoining streets and alley ways.
When you arrive at the massive granary, you find the three guards posted to protect the food depot are already dead and the massive wooden door has already been forced open.
