So once upon a time there was a website, I forget the name, that had a great Star Trek pbp system filled with dedicated writers who were great at collaboration. Something happened to it while real life got weird for me and it doesn't really exist anymore. So my main man and I were thinking about trying to restart it here. He'd "GM" it as a Captain and sort of head-storyteller, with other players taking up other positions. The only rules would be to write interestingly, basically. We'd probably start with us, another friend or two of ours from RL, and some folks from here, if there would be interest.

Writing ability and cooperation would be tantamount. Our objective would be to tell fun, old-school style stories where everyone gets a moment to shine. We wouldn't want a lot of Mary Sue-ing, or chapters and chapters of internal thoughts that go nowhere, but I think you guys get that. Would others be interested?

Your thread seems to be broken, had to find a path to reply that didn't try to open the thread. So if you're wondering what happened, that might be it. I'm not sure how many would try to treknobabble their way into being able to reply.

Me? It was a simple matter, with the primary comms channels corrupted, to re-isolate a hailing frequency based on per-communicant secondary signature traits. (With the thread ID broken, I used your ID to find your post and reply to it.)

I used to get a lot of CSO assigments. :)

Just figuring this out puts you in the front running. I couldn't even get the GM to see it ...

HOpefully this thread is less broken soon? Can we blame Sandy?

I just changed the "campaigns" after the first slash in the URL to "threads" and got here. Much less interesting, but quicker, I think.

As for the game, I might be interested, though I don't know much about Trek or the universe.

Really should repost. Or ask for board admin help with repairs.

Unless you WANT a puzzle as a hurdle. :)

Loup: Good on you, much cleaner.

Hah. Honestly, I just noticed that on the threads that work, the second part of the url is "threads," not "campaigns." I was mostly hoping.

Aha!

I followed Loup's post history as he was the last poster, saw his last post about how to get here, and here I am.

Anyway, I am in.

I was on the old ship that Digger speaks of. I would love to bring that character back, wildly tweaked; an engineer of Bavarian origin, who loves brewing beer and quantum mechanics.

Lt. Kaspar Von Sturm, who rolls up his regulation sleeves when he gets to work, revealing a Star Fleet tattoo with the words "ad astra" on his arm. A real "lifer" in the service, his biggest thrill in life is solving emergency repairs on the line, when things seem hopeless. And then celebrating with a tankard of ale he secretly brewed in the shuttle bay.

Digger, can we christen the ship?

I suggest the USS Aubrey, named after the great British seaman "lucky Jack" Aubrey, who sailed for many years aboard the HMS Surprise, and served under Lord Nelson.

I can do a rough design today.
