The day was dark, overcast. And yet, there was something else that pervaded the area. A dark overtone. It sapped your morale, any humor was quickly lost, it was as if evil roamed the land, denying pleasure in anything.
You have traveled to Solace, and find it oddly soothing. The fog upon your mind seems to lift slightly when you enter the village proper. Up ahead, you see the Inn of the Last Home. Beyond that, a Knight of Solamnia taking a road that leads to the Tomb for the Heros.
With the last bit of sunshine fitfully streaming through the dark clouds overhead indicating sunset, you make your way to the Inn, hoping to get some of Otiks famous spicy potatoes.
As you walk, the feeling of darkness, of wrongness seeps into your bones, making you wary. You glance about at fellow travelers and villagers, and each eyes you in turn, the cool distant look of strangers.
A scream! Where? There! Your eyes lock upon a grisly sight. A knight of Solamnia, one who was walking earlier, has tackled a woman and is... Oh Gods of Good, he is eating her! The knight looks up, bits of gristle hanging from his mouth. His eyes lock upon you; his eyes. His eyes make you tremble in fear, for no mortal has that look. The look of the soulless.
The knight, no the thing, swallows its ghastly meal and bellows loudly. Moments later, around town, more sounds echo throughout. Glass breaking, men shouting, women screaming, children crying...chaos. All is chaos.
The Inn! to the Inn! you break the things gaze and glance up, only to see more of those things streaming up the stairs.
No, not there. Where? you glance around. The thing is gone. Where? You spin around, looking at everything. There! A building! Without thinking, you sprint to it, hoping to reach the door, to get out of sight.
You rush up to the door, only to find others have had the same idea. Throwing the door open wide, you all rush inside, and slam the door shut behind you. Just in time, for a loud bang erupts from the door. Banging, thumping, a moan. Two more bangs and thumps, and then the moan recedes from hearing.
You look back, and see darkness. The building is dark...
In the darkness, the exposed parts of Ajah's skin faintly glowed, belying the power barely contained within.
Once the moans receded and it was apparent that they weren't coming back, a stream of fire erupted from Ajah's outstretched finger and arced towards the lamp on the table. As the light level increased, and he could see with more than his darkvision, Ajah took stock of the people standing around him. His eyes quickly summed everyone up, noting what they're wearing and their probable professions and skills, and then moved onto the next person. For himself, he was wearing simple red-tinged leather breeches and sturdy shoes. His shirt was standard off-white, but his vest was red with arcane runes embroidered in orange and yellow thread. His sturdy cloak is leather on the inside while the outside is the same color with the same patterns as his vest.
"Ok, first we need to secure this building, or at least this room. We need to make sure that there aren't any of those things in here and that they can't get in while we're deciding what to do next." He pauses to let that sink in then adds "Then we can decide what to do next."
Spoiler:
Ajah's list of tasks is pretty much what he said. Sweep the room to make sure it's clear, and then secure the doors, at least temporarily, as best they can.
Once that's done he will try and get everyone together to discuss and come to the conclusion, IC, that this isn't a single instance, that this is a long-term survival scenario.
Once that is decided in person, he'll try to get a list of abilities and skills of everybody, he'll give his, and he'll try to make a pool of all their resources (both character inventory and from inside the crates).
He'll offer to make traps, and ask for people to help fortify the access points, and ask for some other people to scout to see what they're up against and if there's a better place to hole up, and another group to gather, inventory and distribute their resources.
"I'll start barging the doors we entered in as they seem to be a big hole. Its easier to bottleneck things coming through one door instead of double doors."
He barres the door with his spear by putting the spear through the handles of the double door. He then looks for a more sturdy material to hammer into the walls around the doors and make an "X" on the doors to completely seal them from use. Trying to make something resembling this. But out of wood not metal.
That won't last forever but for right now, until I find something to fully bar the door, it should do.

You see a huge shape before you.. Easily 7' tall, with muscles bulging from everywhere not covered by his chain shirt. From his helmet stretches a pair of long, black horns and from the eye slits you see a pair of beady red eyes staring at you.. He holds a two handed, white knuckled grip on a massive axe.. "Was it better outside?" Some of you might ask yourself..
Keep that light down flaming man.. We don't need to draw unwanted attention.. I am Skizzor, a bounty hunter.. Who are you all and what are you good at? If we're to mount a defense against those things we have to coordinated and know what each others strengths are.. I'm decent with this axe and i'm pretty good at tracking" He pauses.. "Lets start setting up some obstacles in front of the entries.. What's all these boxes?"
Is there a window in the rafters? A way to get on the roof possibly?
Spoiler:
If so he'll climb up there and take a peak..
Take 10 Climb=19, Take 10 Perc=20/22 vs zombies
Depending on what he see's/if he see's might be another action..
He'll help open all the boxes and gather what supplies he can... He'll assist in any traps being made..
He'll take a look at the wagons and see if there's any chance of fortifying them for use in a escape..
Oops i read complete with harness for horses as complete with harnesses and horses.. Edited..
Umm... I am Gerard. I am a Squire of the Crown. I knew that knight... What the hell happend to him? Seems there are lots of them. The Red Wizard is right. we first must sweep the building. Glad to have you here Skizzor. Yes get to the roof. Get us a tactical layout and estimate of what the numbers look like. Lucky was it? Those doors slide apart. Keep your spear as you may need it. Secure them with some rope, also find something to wedge in them at there ends to keep from sliding open. How many others do we have in here?
If there are regulare non adventure types Gerard will ask them to assist him with opening up crates to see what resuources we have at our disposal.
I am in training to join the circle of knights. My defense is my greates asset. I force my opponets to trie and make a mistake. I also have soldire/malitia experience fighting as a unit, and tactics. Alright lets get ot work.
the above link will take you to the warehouse. It was difficult to annotate the location of the doors and windows, so i highlighted the locations of these items along the perminiter of the building. I also notated the location of the rows of boxes ranging from stacked up to 10 feet tall down to a single box. The lines in the long rows are stacked up to 10 feet high, whereas the ones next to the wagons are just a single box.
Look things over, and if you have questions about how to read the layout, just ask.
i wont ask you to put your pc on the map yet, because we are still within the 3 hour phase.
To inventory all the boxes will take 2 hours total. There is a hammer and 10 crow bars found within the office area.

you see on the far end a single iron rung ladder set within the wall, allowing a person to climb to the rafters. There are no windows, nor any doors to give access to the roof.

"Well met all.. There doesn't seem to be access to the roof atm.. Il get up there and see if i can punch a hole threw the roof to allow access.." He'll set his pack aside and climb to the rafters with just his warhammer.. Once in position he'll bash a hole in the roof to allow him to crawl out on it and observe the buildigns surroundings..

for searching for items, ill let everyone do a perception check to search for items. An immediate success will allow you to find the item within 2 minutes. for every redo, it adds another 2 minutes. Or you can take 20 and have it take 10 minutes to search and auto find what you are looking for.
Grith patrols the perimeter wall, polearm at the ready in case something should come popping in.
My perception sucks, so someone else should look for things.

Am I successful in making an exit to the roof?
After success or failure Skizzor will come back down and with help move the wagons to in front on the doors on each end.. Should create a nice baracade..
After this he'll just open random boxes to discover there contents.. Not looking for anything in particular..
"I am a fire mage. Fire runs through my blood. Beyond that I know spells to mend simple objects, disrupt the undead, and shield several of us from harm for a time. I suggest that anyone who can use a hammer and nails without making enough noise to raise the... alert the undead do so to help with our defenses. The rest of us should see what of use there is in these boxes."
Spoiler:
Taking 20 to find the makings of a simple but lethal trap that he can put just outside the doors (I'll allow the GM to decide what materials he finds and what type of trap would work best.

skizzor:
Climbing out onto the pitched roof, you gaze upon a scene of carnage and slaughter. People run around in all different directions, fleeing from family members that seek to do them harm.
A shuffling noise is made below you, and you lean slightly over the edge of the roof, and spy upon a couple of those things as they shuffle about. A loud scream emerges from the building next to you, and moments later the two creatures leap forward, bursting into the building through a window. Several heartbeats pass and then another scream that is suddenly cut off.
Being careful not to fall, you ascend to the peak of the roof. Swinging a leg over the peak, you straddle the roof, but keep low. Looking about, you see the building to your east, and then another one next to that one. Both of these have the same large frame as the building your in.
To your right, you see another large frame building, but next to that appears to be a two story house, complete with windows and an rear balcony. One of the windows shows a red tint to it, along with stained curtains of the same color.
Looking back over to the street, you watch helplessly as men, women, and children are viscously attacked, dragged from their feet, and consumed while they writhe in agony.
You begin to hear the thudding noise of someone banging within the building, but you can barely hear it, and with all the people screaming, you doubt that anyone can hear the noise out there.
Looking up into the large vallenwood trees that grow overhead, you see the branches swarming with these creatures as the move about, chasing down people to consume.

Did i read that last part right? Zombies chasing people in the tree tops?
Overlooking the brutality occuring he tries to get a grasp of if the buildings could be gotten to via jumping or possible a made lean over or something..
Ok, good to know, I was guessing since we were going to the Inn we were in the trees, that kind of makes things much worse to be on the groud with Skizzor being a becon of meat on the roof. Zombie paratroopers without the parachutes dropping down. NNNNOOOO!!!! :)
How big are the box tops? How big are the windows. Six nails a top will get me five tops to use. If I have too, will go to four nails a top to get eight to cover.

There are adjacent buildings, one being a house, about 20' from the top of our building.. It might be possile to build a lean over that will cover the distance and allow us to get over there if needed.. The house in particular might be nice.. It looks fancy, no telling what goods we could find inside.."

A man stands up in the darkness, and slaps his side before light srpings up from his armor. He looks around at all the other people there.
"Who are youuuu?"
At the end of this he quickly begins to heave into the crate behind him.

"Problem? Don't worry the Knights of Solamnia, or we Clerics of Paladine will solve it."
Xarian gets his greatsword and holy symbol ready and begins looking around to help the others while they wait for the 'resuce' Xarian thinks is coming.

Inventory of items:
for the below items, pick out the item that you wish to find. Roll a percentile dice. if you roll within the target range, you find the item. If not, roll a 1d4 and a 1d8. On the d4 roll, odd you move up the list, even, you go down the list. the d8 roll indicates the number of spots you count off to find item you found.

need to refine the process. State the exact item you are looking for. example: i am looking to find a flask of acid. The target to find is 35%.
search for acid:1d100 ⇒ 10
since i rolled a 10%, i found the acid flask.
now, lets say that i had rolled a 38%, which falls outside of the 35%. I would then roll the d4 and the d8
1d4 ⇒ 4 1d8 ⇒ 7
i got a 4, which is even, so i move down the list. i rolled an 8, so i count off 8 spots. according to the list, instead of acid, i have found an alchemical solvent.

Ok your saying its impossible to get to the other buildings from the roof? I dont see how we could take a rafter that weighs several hundred pounds and get it onto the roof..
Ok, i will admit it, the idea for this came from Ghost of hallow's eve short adventure, last stand on hallows eve. I read that and it made me think of an easy and short survival adventure. So i give full credit to ghost for this idea. Thanks!
Basis for adventure is simple: survive.
I will allow the PCs 3 hours to prepare for the onslaught. (hey, you finally get to use the skill Profession Carpenter!)
Setting: You are located within Solace.
character build info
1st level

Starting wealth=max
since this is dragonlance, i will review any PC that is made with a Dragonlance race. So if you wish to play a minotaur, make it and i may approve it.
Dragonlance dietys
backstory: just what brought you to solace. And please, no "im in a caravan that is traveling with 15 bags of holding where each contains 3 years worth of food and water; and +5 holy avengers".
Character advancement:
Instead of assigning xp, i will instead set goals. Meet the goal, you advance to the next level. Example: to make 2nd level, the group must destroy 10 zombies.
Characters can be leveled on the spot. No waiting to sleep, or a lull in combat. As soon as you meet the prereq, you can level.
Leveling will also refill your HPs, spells, and special ability uses.
As the party advances in levels, i will reveal locations of unique items that would normally come with adventuring, so it is possible to find that +2 Bane mace of undead.
Dragonlance PrCs will be allowed...if you survive that long
Id like to get this party started quickly, so ill have the recruitment open until friday, and will start on friday.
How long are you planning to have this go? You mentioned leveling, so I assume indefinitely? I'm mostly curious if there will be a story or if it's just scavenging / survival / seeing how long you last? I'm into the idea either way.
I kind of had in mind of doing an Oracle (either Dark Tapestry or Bones) with the Wasting Curse, the idea being that the character acquired the zombie disease, but has a certain degree of immunity to it (rotting the body but not the mind).
Thinking about an Urban Ranger.. Ill have to think about race..
If i was to build a minotaur do i use DL stats for them of PF stats for them? Their pretty similar, but in DL minotaurs are medium not large..
DL ones only have +2 NA not +5 as well and their racial skill bonuses are diff.. DL gets +2 intimidate, swim, and use rope(escape artist now), PF ones get +4 perception and +4 survuval..
How bout a mix?

Stat Modifiers:

-2 int
-2 cha
Skill Mods:
+2 intimidate
+2 perception or survival
Medium Size
+3 Natural Armor

Special Abilities :
•Heart of the Streets Humans from bustling cities are skilled with crowds. They gain a +1 racial bonus on Reflex saves and a +1 dodge bonus to Armor Class when adjacent to at least two other allies. Crowds do not count as difficult terrain for them. This racial trait replaces skilled.

Gerard was born and grew up in Solace. He played in the square with other children. He always wanted to be Sturm Brightblade when they played The Tales of the Lance. As he became older he started working at the Inn of the last home as a dishwasher. He always daydreamed of adventure and joining the Knightly Circles.
One day a knight, Sir Gregory came to Solace. Gregory was a knight of the Crown. He stayed at the inn for a bit while he conducted his buisness. Gerard was awe struck with the man and would bring him his dinners and drinks just to have a moment to chat with him. He formed a bond with the knight. It was then that Sir Gregory took Gerard as a squire. Gregory would sponcer Gerard as he seeked entrance into the circle of knights. Gerard received some traing from Gregory. Fortunate for the now young man as tonight something is stiring...
Lol, kender zombies...i can only imagine the scene im being attacked by 20 zombies, a zombie black dragon, and a zombie irda, but i will ignore all of them for that zombie kender that is sitting on the hill munching on the hand he grabbed from another zombie lol
@werepox: go with pathfinder minotaur.
@stargaizer: use pathfinder ruels and creation.
@yoricks: just a survival game. Not planning a storyline, per say, but knowing me, i may throw in some random survivors at some point to make you guys sweat. And i like your PC concept...id like to see it "fleshed" out so i can look it over.

Sound solid. I'll see about getting it written up tonight. Are normal PF races allowed or just things that are specifically mentioned in the Dragonlance book?

I was thinking of putting together a draconian. I've drafted a 10 RP race that seems to be a reasonable facsimile.
Draconian:
Draconian (10 RP)
Draconian Racial Traits
Humanoid, Reptilian (0)
Specialized (1): +2 Strength, +2 Constitution, -2 Wisddom; Draconian are physically strong but are also dull-witted.
Medium (0)
Speed: 20ft (-1): Draconian speed is never reduced by armor or encumbrance.
Natural Armor (4): Draconian have a +3 natural armor bonus.
Darkvision (2): Draconian can see in the dark up to 60 feet.
Low-Light Vision (1): Draconian can see twice as far as humans in dim light.
Bite(1): Draconian possess a bite attack that deals 1d3 damage.
Claws(2): Draconian receive two claw attacks. These are primary natural attacks that deal 1d4 damage.
Languages (0): Draconian begin play speaking Common and Draconic. Draconian with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Abyssal, Aklo, Gnoll, Terran, Sylvan, and Undercommon.
Special Abilities :
•Brass Draconic Bloodline: Whenever I cast a spell with the (fire) descriptor, add +1 point of damage per die rolled.
•Elemental Fire Bloodline: Whenever I cast a spell that deals energy damage, I can change the energy to (fire)
•Spell Like Ability: I can use burning hands 1/day as a spell like ability.
•Fire Affinity: Treat my Charisma score as 2 points higher for all sorcerer spells and class abilities.
Ajah is a traveling mage. He wanders the countryside helping where he can, performing where he can't, and generally just trying to be a good guy. Of course, there have been some unexplained forest/property fires in places that he has visited, but it's 'purely coincidental'. Would a face like that lie?
Yesterday you said no to traits here: http://paizo.com/campaigns/v5748p75hoijr/recruiting#16
Just trying to get clarification, traits or no traits.
Also, he doesn't know magic missle, so no using it on the darkness. He will try to light up the night with his fire though (provided it's situationally appropriate... and maybe a little even when it's not!).
yes, you are correct ajah. Thanks for pointing that out to me. when i answered i was thinking to myself wasnt there a question about traits...but couldnt remember where i had seen it.
Still working on my Ragechemist, now I'm thinking of adding on Vivisectionist. It will be Human and depending oh how long he survives will be nearly unkillable.
If noone posts one by picking time i can redo into a cleric.. This seems impossible without healing..
but think of how epic it would be to survive without a cleric? hmmm...if no cleric presents itself, i may change the ending from survive, to help is on the way.
