After all the battle, the party begins to search for any magic items, aided by Aggrippa.

Lord’s Private Chamber
This plainly furnished room is the residence of the commander of the watchtower, Lord Thomas Havelyn, Knight of the Alerion, protector of Aldencross.
Thomas’ chamber is as much a shrine as it is bedchamber. There is an oil portrait of the lady Bronwyn of Havelyn. The painting shows one of the most beautiful women any of you has ever seen. The portrait does not do her justice. The portrait is surrounded by carefully tended candles. When not on duty, Thomas is often here communing with the picture of his dead wife.
There is also here a family “bible” of the House of Havelyn. This ancient holy book in praise of Mitra also features a chart detailing Lord Havelyn’s family tree.

Perception DC 15:

You notice that a one name has been blotted out. That name ‘Samuel Havelyn, Cardinal of Mitra’ can still barely be discerned.

This antique book with its fine leather bindings and gold fittings is quite valuable (450 gp) but would be almost impossible to sell since it so obvious belongs to the Lord Havelyn. It can be vandalized for its gold fittings which are still worth 50 gp on its own.

Loot list.

Lets lock this lot up for now and see to the mages room. We can either retreat back here to hole up or we can go on search and destroy missions through out the keep as you see fit, that said? Lets have that imp fly out to set off that fire work and summon our allies. It will take them a while to get here and we can either count coins in here or amuse ourselves by taking out some more of the guards... .

When Agrippa reappears, he takes in the wizard's unblemished robes and shoots him a scathing glare as he comments on their survival. The look is somewhat less effective than he was aiming for due to Johan's current lack of eyebrows.

40. Magister’s Laboratory
This is the workshop of the watchtower’s magister. This poorly lit and crowded chamber is full of tables laden with strange equipment and apparatuses.
Amongst the other pieces of equipment here there is an alchemist’s lab worth of components. In addition there is fine cooking pot with four stout legs that radiates fait transmutation magic.

41. Magister’s Private Quarters
The room itself is well furnished. There is a single window large enough for the wizard to fly out of. The exterior door has an average lock (DC 25). The door that connects to his laboratory has no lock and is often propped open.
Tacitus has a locked strongbox pushed under his bed with a good lock (DC 30). Inside the lockbox is his spellbook “The Heart of All Flame” and 120 gp.

“The Heart of All Flame”:

Bound in the crimson, scaled leather of some indeterminate reptilian beast, this large locked tome bears its title proudly in Common across the front cover. Inside is found not just spells but a lovingly written treatise on the beauty and purity of flame and how ice, when it grows cold enough, also burns.

Oppositional Schools illusion, necromancy

A group of soldiers stood in a nervous group, quietly muttering and murmuring.

They didn't know what was happening to them, only that whatever had been happening, that removed their leaders one by one, that removed their contact with the outside world, had just gotten a lot worse.

Like many of those chosen to guard the keep of the Northern border they were without leadership. A fact not helped by Corporal Retheld taking three of their commrades to investigate recent events. He had not returned.

There was rumours from a passing patrol, who were even more nervous than they, that there was fighting up near Lord Thomas's quarters.

Since it had moved on they'd been left alone. Only the occassional scream and ring of steel on steel hinted at what was happening through the keep.

So caught up in their deliberations were they that they only noticed the creaking and clatter of armoured footsteps when it was nearly upon them. They formed up, spears and swords held tightly by trembling fingers.

A giant of a man seemingly filled the corridor as it strode towards them. A blood stained sword in one hand and the head of Lord Thomas Havelyn dangling from the hair of its scalp in the other!

The group of smirking cuttroats and gloating diabolicalists behind him only added to their knee trembling fear.

Throw down your weapons NOW, kneel at my feet and you will live to see the dawn!, the figure roared, the hellish scenes in his black armour standing out in the torch light.

The clatter of shields, spears and swords was a brief deafening.

And so it went - those who would not surrender were cut down with blade, with arrow and with unholy magics until those who had surrendered, and such priests that remained living knelt in the courtyard of the keep.

After an hour of this a trio of men tried to make a break for it.

What happened afterwards to them by way of example made the prisoners weep and feel ill.

At length one of their captors cocked his head. I'd say our friends are arriving, he comments sardonically.

I concur - Excellent, says the thin bearded scholar as he flips through the leather bound book that recently belonged to the keeps wizard.

The first of the villains who spoke nudged one of the prisoners with his foot and indicated another with a jut of his chin. You and you - open the gates!

Rushing to comply they gaped in horror as they saw the army of torch carrying monsters marching towards the gateway to Talingard... an army with nothing to stop them!

Human Hero Killer1 / Holy Assassin1 / Deceiver2

Death, pain, humiliation.
That's what was waiting for Balentyne soldiers.

However, not everyone was broken, not all courage was lost.
The gates were open, but even then, the traps were still in place.

Scalding Hot Sand meet the first bugbears to set foot at the gatehouse entryway.
The murder holes and the arrow slits on either said were used in a deadly manner. That however was not enough to stop the horde.

The two fearsome ballistae point out across the rocky approach to the gatehouse. They were loaded with great barbed missiles that conveyed the message “death to any who approach unbidden”. However, that was not enough to stop the horde.

From the chapel, the saints statues light came forth, merging together in a fearsome celestial creature. It lays waste to many bugbears, until Sakkarot himself put an end to it, with his infernal fire axe. Even then, it was not enough to stop the horde.

The last survivors, in a desperate attempt to stop the enemies, used the Seal of Baleytine, a great stone emblem bearing the heraldry of Talingarde, to seal off the main entrance. However, it was not enough to stop the horde.

Death had tome to this place, no one was spared, no mercy was given.

Balentyne burned.

I think Agrippa is just going to keep the book instead of recopying the spells. Added the book as a tab in my spreadsheet.

Balentyne falls though there is still some resistance. The bugbears losses could have been much worse. Sakkarot is unwounded and much heartened by this success. Still, it takes a day to get the whole body of the horde moved up and through the Watchtower gates. The citizenry of Aldencross flee in terror spreading word of the invasion led by the monster who wields an axe of flame. The war has begun and Talingarde has lost the first battle.

Once the deed is done. You break the clay seal.

Some moments later, Tiadora appears, carrying a small but heavy wooden box.

She spend some time, staring openly at Sidious, but says nothing as she hands the box to Johan.

Inside it, platinum ingots worth 5000 gp and a a small hand written note.

"Our lord smiles upon your success. Here is a token of my esteem. Use it to rest, recover and strengthen yourselves. Other commands will come when the Knot is needed. Your work has just begun. – A."

From a promontory, you can see the great bugbear horde camped south of the Watch Wall. Balentyne yet burns behind you. Tiadora remarks, "I have seen no evidence of any army gathering to meet the horde. It seems Zadaria has also succeeded at her mission and has assassinated the commanders. Truly, a great achievement."

“Making matters worse for poor Talingarde, small bands of creatures unaligned with Sakkarot approach the breach, eager to take advantage of the chaos. How could these beasts know already about this break in the Watch Wall? Someone must have told them. Probably best to leave. This region is about to become very dangerous."

“Still, this will not be enough. Balentyne may be broken but Talingarde is yet strong. Soon word will reach the south. The Heartland and the great cities of the Cambrian Bay will marshal their armies. They will meet Sakkarot on the field and it will be far too close to a fair fight. We must do something about that."

“Come, my lords, your ship awaits. Try not to burn this one.”

Agrippa nods at the low-born rogue I will require time of my own to prepare the arcane magicks which will bring hellfire and ruin upon the Mitran. And allow my ascendance to power!

Before they board the boat:
Agrippa, taking his new prize possession the spellbook of Tacitus, proceeds into the town with several bugbear toughs. He heads to the Tavern which they spent several nights while hatching their devious plan for the destruction of Balentyne. He searches for Master Bellan, the impudent barkeep who infuriated Agrippa. Agrippa drops all pretense and approaches the man without his disguise. Now Master Bellan, do not be surprised. It is I, Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa von Nettesheim who orchestrated the fall of your city and even now it burns and its people are put to the sword. Agrippa gestures for the bugbears to seize the man. You will be the first. The first I sacrifice in the Great Lord's name. You will bring me great favor. Agrippa has the man beaten within an inch of his life and dragged aboard the sailing vessel and thrown, bound into the hold. Do not die Master Bellan, or I will animate your corpse and snatch your soul from the bosom of your Lord of Light.

Unless something in the spoiler doesn't meet your approval GM, Agrippa's plan is to sacrifice Bellan in a bloody ritual designed to garner the service of a devil. Preferably one of these Marnasoth Barbazu Gaav or Imp Also, GM how do you feel about spell research?

We burned it to the ground and Johan personally killed him

Ah yeah, I forgot about that. Thanks Johan, well Agrippa will find some poor soul for his evil scheme. Substitute Bellan for someone else

Sidious desecrates the temple inside the fortress to Asmodeus and holds dark rites there. He also repairs the siege engine on top or the watchtower and offers it as a gift to Sakkarot, if it can be sparred from the fire.

Before Tiadora shows up Sidous communes with Hell through Abraxus, asking for Asmodeus' guidance for what he should do now that he was free. Should he continue with this knot and serve the Cardinal, or should he seek the master's will elsewhere?

Assuming he gets the logical answer...

When Tiadora stares at the evil priest he steps forward boldly to greet the "woman". Well met, servant of my master. These men freed me from captivity of the Mitraites and so I fought with them. I think they will tell you I made a good accounting of myself. I am known as Father Sidious, and this one He indicates the Imp that sits exposed on his shoulder. is Abraxus, my helper and advisor. My master has bid me to submit to the Cardinal, so I do. What is his will for me?

S'okay, I like your version better!

After the siege:
Johan meets Sakkarot across a courtyard strewn with corpses, bloody mace in one hand, sightless, staring head of Sir Thomas in the other. Well met bugear. The ninth knot held up our end of the plan. You proved true to your word also. Your horde fought well. He strides forward and drops the lord's head at the fire axe's feet. Sorry we didn't save this one for you. But here is a gift fit for the conqueror of Ballentyne. Johan presents Sakkarot with Thomas's sword, Balerion.

Tiadora is moving us on soon. I wish you luck and the Master's favour in the battles ahead, but before we go, I'd propose a trade. Your men will be glutted with plunder come morning, but much of it will be useless to an army on the move. We have stockpiled a good amount of weapons and armor - forged steel, sharp and hard. We will have as much need of coin where we are headed as your horde will of sword and spear in the weeks ahead. Gather 12000 gold together from the plunder of this town and we will guide you to the cache I spoke of. In addition to arms and armor for at least 50 men it contains other trophies like that blade. Johan waves to Balerion, and adds meaningfully, some of which are magical.

Okay guys, if there is anything else you want from our loot, now's the time to speak up! Headband? Halberd? going once...twice...

@Eldred
”Why Dearest, are you in such a hurry?” the woman teases as Eldred question their new destination.

@Sidious
”Keep with this band, and you may eventually meet the cardinal.” she says.

”Well met Master Hale” says a happy Sakkarot.
You drop the head at his feet, and then gift him with the sword he looks at you and then accept it. At the same time, the call one of this sergeants and say to him ”I want this head, spiked into our flag. The first one many.” he says.
Then he listen to Johan proposal and laughs ”I see, I little knife work did not changed you at all Master Hale. On our first meeting, you made me similar offer, though it’s now more interesting.”
Johan, what’s the complete list you are trying to sell?
