Cmd-Keen Commissar |
Bit undecided here - I was thinking about breaking radio silence even before the new time limit was put in place.
I'd say let the crazies start the distraction - making it rain a ton of sh!t onto the orks - and order them back to their vehicles and start a full attack on the orks fighting the worm. All the while buying time while we shoot down the cable and have the techies attach it to the next chimera.
Speaking OT that will probably fail because the techs will need another 30 minutes to dismantle the turret of the next apc and the fight is either going to be won or lost by then, but the Commissar doesn't know about that being away from whats happening at the home camp.
Thoughts?
If no one has a better Idea i'll go with it because I think that's what the Commissar would do IC at this point.
Choon the Expendable |
Well, we just performed a minor miracle of engineering over here so we might be done by the time you get back/radio in. I say we radio the tank and have it attack the worm pit with us. This chimera is out of commission until we set up the resonance cascade and we need another vehicle to set up the second power interface needed, right?
Cmd-Keen Commissar |
@Choon thats pretty much what I'm proposing, except let them start the rain on the Rokk first(and not return at all, just break radio silence and order you guys forward)
@GoW I believe they are actually a little way back and not above at all - they are parked in the first cave to the right according to what the other groups message said and Aurius went to confirm it
The Ghost of War |
Actually no.
Read again, Aurius just found tracks fitting to their vehicles in that cave but not the actual vehicles.
For all you know, they just used the cave to hide from a passing-by patrol before pressing on.
Otherwise, they would not be able to shoot down the 'ceiling' (and activate your diversion-rock-slide) with the Leeman Russ' battlecannon right?
So they actually managed to get all three vehicles (Tank, Chimera and Sentinel) to their forward position.
Cmd-Keen Commissar |
I think things going a bit slow is mostly on me. The Commissar is making the tactical decisions in concert with the npc officers so its probably hard to act for the 'rank and file' until I got my post out and that is going a bit slow right now - for reasons you are well aware of GoW ;3
I don't think we should let that change the pace tho. Just be strict and Bot the Commissar just like anyone else after 24h since the last post.

If you guys want to get in on the remainder of Part 3 before its finished up and posted, here you go: http://boards.4chan.org/tg/thread/58286435
Note that as of my posting this, Shoggy hasnt finished putting them all up.
The Ghost of War |
Just added a rough map of the open area battle that is happening before you guys to help with imagination and planing.
Added a kind of legends in the commentary field below the slide, if you have any questions: ask.
The size is not fully representational, otherwise everything (but the worm) would be on the tiny side of things.

The Plan
From the Guy who already lost a character due to suicidal tendencies
1) Bring bikes to the ridge and point them at the leftmost emplacments. Hang a brick on the accelerator and let go. Resulting explosion should create a LOT of dust and "cover".
2) Convoy moves into position with the Fist providing cover for the rest and systematically taking out turrets right-left on the way
3) Connect cable
4) Set up positive feedback loop.
5) Run like the Warp itself is after us
6)?
7)?
8)?
9)?
10)Glory to the Emperor!
Choon the Expendable |
OH, and the Father should be embedded with the Zealots. They'll probably listen to him before they will anyone else.
The Ghost of War |
Which 'access' method did you settle on?
I think it was Bolus&Anatoly (+x) board one of the emplacements to disconnect the cable there and lower it to the waiting vehicles below?
If so which emplacement do you target?
***
Or was it Anatoly tries the circus trick of men-machine-on-machine-uses-mechandrite-to-disconnect-cable?
Choon the Expendable |
We go for the right, closest to where the cable goes into the wall and so less likely of it getting hit. Fist destroys the right emplacement first so we don't have fire raining on our heads, then goes to the left to continually narrow the arc we have to defend. Anatoly goes up on the sentinel while the dust is still thick, brings it down, and then we get to work.
Cmd-Keen Commissar |
Pretty okay with this plan too, except 2 points I'd like to add:
1. we only fire on stuff that targets us. In an ideal world the orks and worm thing continue to fight eachtoher while we do our thing. No need to draw the orks on us by destroying their heavy weapon support without any need. That'll happen as soon as we disconnect the cable anyway(probably, cable seems to be running from our target to the others)
On this point I'd like to confirm one thing with GoW tho:
The turrent emplacement we are going for does not have a firing arc towards us if we approach close to the wall. Correct?
2. We have plenty of Smoke grenades left. We won't be unseen, but why would a blood maddened berserker go looking for new targets in smoke while they have a perfectly good one in sight? We'll have to lend 1 or 2 googles to the gunner(and maybe driver) of the fist tho.
(Not smoking us, because longleg needs to see where they go too and we simply don't have enough googles for everyone but throwing them between where we'll 'park' next to the encampment and where the orks are fighting should work)

And for the off-topic part:
What GoW was hinting at is that as for sunday I am now father to a healthy little baby boy so while I might not be as well rested as before I _should_ have enough time to post while watching over him while my wife is asleep. We'll see if I can actually manage it tho
The Ghost of War |
Yes, the emplacements are already hard-pressed to target the worm in the middle of the canyon, no way can they fire at you, as long as you stand directly beneath them.
Emplacement on the opposite sides are obviously able to do so though.
So going with Choons plan, A, C, D will be able to attack you, E can't.
I think I have read 2 ways of how you want to use the nutjobs.
1. Have them come with you to the right (with their chimera), using them as meat shields against incoming fire
2. (From Lind-Bolus conversation): Have them make a suicide charge along the right side (following the bike, on foot) to provide distraction (and generally be out of your way)
@Liam: I think Anatoly asked you for a bit of a patch-up after the engagement with the burning Ork previously. Probably slipped through?
Cmd-Keen Commissar |
Probably not the best idea. No matter how inspiring your leadership is they ARE going to start firing the moment they think they can get away with it after being kept on the short leash for such a long time.
And starting to fire early will draw the orks early.
Hence why I would like for them to start away from us. Draw them away, not towards us =3
I'll leave that up to you thought. The Commissar is not going to say no to discplined soldiers of the imperium heroically holding the line and putting their bodies between the enemy and the mission objective(aka Meatshields)
The Ghost of War |
Hmm I thought Anatoly was fine until that hit, so jo first aid on him IIRC. Anatoly you probably know best?
Not really. That's really beyond 'mundane horror', but you will only take half the amount (to a minimum of 1)
@All: Got more busy than expected and my day runs out. Big update will come tomorrow!
The Ghost of War |
@All: You're up, if that wasn't clear from that wall of text.
@First Aid: Yeah, I am not entirely happy with the 'new' first aid rules.
The old ones were more cumbersome, but also much stronger ... and ... realistic?
You would treat each wound you suffered ... up to once.
If you were not able to treat all of the wounds damage in one roll, it would have to heal naturally, but you could actually patch up every wound with good rolls.
The new one certainly has the benefit of speeding first aid up, since you no longer have to keep track of all the single wounds you suffered (once upon a time).
But the once/day restriction seems a bit harsh.
Cmd-Keen Commissar |
Mhhh, I think thats supposed to pace the game. Quite a lot of military missions aren't won or lost in a single day. Make it a very impactful choice whether to wait for your troops to recover or to attack in a window of opportunity
The Ghost of War |
Good thing you used up all your explosives before, eh?
1d100 ⇒ 29
Liam has one dose of stim left in his medikit that should be able to raise the proverbial dead for a couple of minutes.
Putting the flames out (if your patient isn't struggling against you) is a full round action without a test necessary.
Keep in mind that you still have 2 FPs to burn and one to use.
E.g. 1 FP use -> 1d5 instant heal or something similar.
Choon the Expendable |
But I'm not conscious and therefore am very helpful!
fate point HP: 1d5 ⇒ 4
I am now at 1 critical and still unconscious and burning and all that.
