Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

At Mal's command, the air in the center of the gulch condenses forming a thick cloud of fog. Everything much beyond arm's reach becomes impossible to distinguish, and you even have a difficult time seeing your own hand in front of your face in the long shadows of the late afternoon.

From atop the cliffs, the giant archer shouts a warning, which is echoed by the the confusion of the giant that Lureene charmed just a moment before. Neither understanding nor caring what they have to say, Malandraenas and his little sister slink forward into the fog — not as quietly as they might have liked, but with no less of an intent to kill.

Rolls:
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

Even with the fog surrounding them, Lureene cannot help but notice the presence of both Mal and Talvyra, who is obviously looking for a quick and easy meal. To forestall any further conflict, she whispers to Alis, keeping her voice down so the other giant does not overhear,

Alis or Perception DC 25:
”I am sorry for freezing up there, I was not expecting that. Can you forgive me? Also, we should ask him whether Ieana and Kovack passed this way, and whether they tried to make contact with him or others of his…tribe.”

Eric: A perception DC of 25 for whispering means that you are pretty much in the person's ear whispering as per the Message cantrip. Otherwise, whispered conversation has a Perception DC of 15.

Seeing the fog arise and noting that the giant's reaction to it is anything but unconcerned, Alis sighs inwardly. Looking up, she sees the dark form of Mal towering over Lureene who promptly begins trying to converse with her in a loud whisper.

Of all the...

With a deft roll, Alis gains her feet and slips past Mal and Tal doing her best to remain quiet and shooting an incredulous look at Lureene for trying to have a heart-to-heart at a time like this. Alis hisses something quietly to her as she moves, but she is unable to hear what 'Lis says.

Perception DC 15 (Mal, Priyya):
"He's pissed El, fall back!"

With that, she reaches into her boot and is just barely able to pull free a spare dagger with her numb fingers. Clenching it in her teeth, she begins attempting to saw thru the thick vine.

"EEEEH!!!"

In an attempt to distract the giant from his new mistress, King Tut screams and flings a handful of excrement at the giant before scampering further into the trees higher up.

From in front of them, Mal and Tal can suddenly smell the giant even more strongly than before. It smells like... monkey poop?!

Priyya, about to advance into the fog, hears the order to 'fall back'. What the hell is going on in there?

Justin: "He's pissed El, fall back." It should be clear to Mal and Priyya that Alis is telling Lureene to get clear, not necessarily anyone else. Unfortunately, Lureene is about the only person who didn't hear Alis. Go figure, right?

Male Human Fighter 4

Priyya fires off two shots, the first tags the archer in the arm, while the second ricochets off the rocks.

Unamused at the momentary deception on the part of the winged woman and her friends, the giant that held Alis in his grasp only just a moment ago, gets to his feet, drawing his blade and swings a crushing blow at the last spot he remembers seeing her.

The other growls in frustration, and begins to move down the slope towards Priyya, stopping only to fire upon her. The shot misses by about a foot or two, the massive arrow lodging itself in the earth like a pile-driven stake.

Priyya looks at the monstrous arrow dubiously and says in a loud but measured tone, "Uh, kids... we have company coming and I didn't put out the good china. A little help would be appreciated."

Mal, wishing to pull deeply from his reservoir of primal power, opts to only release a trickle, just enough to enhance his claws and teeth. His grin goes from feral to straight up wicked as his canines grow to triple their already impressive size, and a soft shnickt shnickt announce Larathiel's gifted claws to the party as he settles into a pouncing position.

Come on, big guy.. you know you want to follow Alis through the fog…

Totemic Transformation (natural weapons).
Then move action to hopefully get a better stealth 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24.

Talvyra stalks through the fog, looking for an opportunity to attack the massive prey.

Lureene finally realizes the Giant has shaken off the charm effect. Wha...happened? I did not do anything to threaten him, and neither did 'Lis, in fact the only one who did anything was...

As the realization of what happened here hits her, she looks back towards Mal and his pet. It is fortunate for him the fog cloud has obscured the two, for if he had seen the look Lureene gave him, he would have keeled over dead right there. Needless to say, it is not a friendly one. She curses foully in Abyssal as she realizes the fog cloud spell has obscured her vision as well.

How am I supposed to hurt this thing, if I cannot see him? OHHH, there will be a reckoning over this...

She decides at this point discretion is the better part of valor , and retreats back the way the party came, and decides to summon a distraction to cover the group's escape...

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Lureene sweeps past Mal, Tal, and Alis exiting the cover of the fog only to see the giant that was at the top of the cliffs making his way down towards Priyya's location. Giving a flourish, she summons her favorite pet eagle and the scintillating raptor attacks the giant from the rear!

Immediately, it begins tearing into the archer's neck with beak and claw!

Rolls:

C'mon, c'mon! YES!

Sawing at the thick vine with the dagger clenched between her teeth, Alis finally manages to finish sawing thru it... only to be greeted with the burning sensation of pins and needles throughout her fingers as the blood finally begins flowing again.

Stifling a whimper, she gingerly frees the healing wand from behind one of her bracers using her teeth even as she attempts to coax the feeling back into her poor little purple hands.

Why aren't Mal and Tal attacking yet? I can hear Priyya calling for help, but...

For now, the princess decides that using the fog for cover is her best recourse until she's able to regain sensation enough in her hands to hold a weapon.

Priyya slides closer to the bank of fog and the winged spellcaster. We can't afford to have our party split. She knocks an arrow and fires it without thought. It streaks towards the archer's face.

Priyya moves over next to Lureene and fires off another shot burying a shaft deep inside the archer's side. He bellows in pain and shouts what seems to be a warning to his hot-headed accomplice.

Ignoring the eagle which fails to hit him, he moves down the slope as fast as he can, though not with the reckless abandon of his kinsman.

The other giant, standing in the fog, hesitates for a moment as if sniffing the air or listening for something. Then with a brutish chuckle, he side-steps to the east then stomps straight for Talvyra evading the wrath of her claws before knocking her prone with his thunderous footsteps.

Cursing her luck, Alis dives out of the way as the enraged giant rushes through to the other side of the fog, drawing his gladius as he goes. Upon emerging from the bank of fog, he immediately catching sight of the tiny woman who dared to trick him a moment ago. A feral grin splits his face as she looks upon her with hungry eyes.

Mal shadows the giant's movements north, pouncing when he sees the giant clear the fog.

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Ben: Tal doesn't have enough actions to both stand and charge. She can stand and move into position though if you'll let me know the square. Also, I need to know what square Mal is moving to and what his attack rolls are.

Priyya's glance shoots between the giants in front and behind her. Her voice is more jaunty than she feels, "So... a 'rock and a hard place', eh? This should be fun."

Removed the spoilers for Mals blue text. And for Talvyra, there are two fog-squares just south of the giant. Put her in the one to the right. (Sorry for the lack of coordinates, my phone isn't pullingup the map.) This should put her in concealment for now, but able to provide flanking (with some slight maneuvering) next round.

Lureene glances at Priyya briefly, wondering at her sense of humor at a time like this. To be honest, I really do not understand why this is fun for her.

Seeing the other giant barreling down towards them made her next action pretty straightforward. While one giant would be difficult enough to handle, two would be next to impossible. She shouts, ”’Lis, hurry or we will be cut off!” She then casts another spell, and points at the charging Giant where a thick mass of webbing appears in front of him!

Talvyra moves thru the fog coming up behind the giant that just bowled it over. Meanwhile, her big brother stalks thru the fog, using it to cover his approach until the very last moment when he leaps out to strike, interposing himself between the giant and Lureene.

The giant however, is not quite taken aware, catching Mal's strike on the edge of his blade as he keeps his burning eyes on the two hunters.

Note that Tal/Mal are not yet far enough apart to be flanking.

Trying to salvage the situation, Lureene spins about to cast a spell on the approaching archer but neglects to consider the reach of the towering berserker. With barely any effort, the brute pushes aside Mal's claws and brings his chipped, blade crashing down on Lureene sheerig painfully into her right wing!

Seeing that the towering foe is occupied, she slips past Talvyra and delivers a deep wound to the giant's back with a powerful thrust from her thin blade.

The brute grunts in pain at the surprisingly painful sting, teeth clenched in rage.

Sensing that his mistress is on the move, King Tut leaps from his hiding spot and starts racing around the bank of fog to rejoin her.

Descending the hill in a cascade of stones, he drops his bow and draws his battered old gladius with the scape for rusty metal. He swings at Priyya, taking her legs out from under her and sending her to the ground even as he looms over Lureene, seemingly daring her to cast another spell.

The sound that issues from the old is like a great harbor bell being run by a mallet. Flakes of rust fly from the blade as it impacts her skull and shoulders. Without ever knowing what hit her, the blonde succubus is knocked out and knocked flat. O_0 Man, way to UNLEASH the BEAST!

Laith:
If that drops the giant, have Mal spin, blood flying from claws and teeth, and scream out a wordless challenge at the other giant.... please.

Finally deciding to help out the ladies, Mal proceeds to eviscerate and then... bite... the giant that just leveled Lureene. He then wheels about like some feral beast, gore dripping from his suddenly over-sized canine teeth and claws. A bestial howl erupts from him chilling Alis to the core.

Even as he roars, Talvyra slinks forward seeking to protect Lureene. Having none of it, the giant swings at her attempting to keep her from stealing his supper. However, the hunting cat is too steady on her feet and weathers the blow without getting bowled over.

What the hell was Lara thinking?! I hope he hasn't gone berserk or something...

Making a mental note to drink until the image of Mal gnawing upon a giant's leg is purged from her memory, Alis skirts the still twitching corpse and comes at the other giant seeking to protect her downed friends. The giant swings for her legs seeking to trip her up, same as he did Priyya, but Alis easily hops over the attack to deliver one of her own.

You posted while I was still typing. Gotta modify that AoO and insert Tal's actions I guess... Gimme a minute here...

EDIT: OK, map and actions corrected now. You might have to click on the image to see the big version before you'll see Talvyra in the right spot. I guess the caching webserver I'm using hasn't detected that the image has been update yet. (The specific updates have unique filenames and don't suffer from that problem.) I've just disabled cachine so hopefully that will correct the issue.

Priyya sits up on her elbows, angry that she's been tripped for what seems like the thousandth time since teaming up with Alis. What is it with all these men trying to get me prone?! Who am I, Lureene? She glares at the giant with a look that says Get ready to bend over friend because I'm going to...

But the thought remains incomplete, derailed by the grisly show Mal puts on - literally tearing the giant into chunks with a ferocity Priyya hasn't seen before. And while Surya-ka-Vahaak says 'keep your head in the fight!', the Priyya side watches his wild abandon and thinks Oooof... I'd like to see if he brings that intensity to the bedroom.

Priyya shakes off the idle speculation and rises, disdaining the attack she knows will come. She knocks an arrow and takes careful aim. "Let's see if you're allergic to feathers, a$$hole." The bow twangs and Priyya does her best to bury the arrow up to the fletching in the giant's chest.

His eyes climb back up to the ridge-line once again as he finds his way over to a place on the rocky ground that creates a natural bowl. Bending down, he whispers more of his rustic words, and the bowl fills with clear. He dips in his hands and begins efficiently cleaning off his claws and face, speaking without looking up. "I wonder if these two were acting alone. I could make my way up there quickly if it were worth the expenditure, just to make sure. I just hate to lose any more time on our quarry."

Priyya keeps working to bring Lureene around but she nods at Mal's comments and smiles a little smile to herself. "Be careful, Mal. I'm a girl whose susceptible to flattery - particularly honest flattery. But I think the credit for the best kill is yours. For a moment there, I thought you might fully dress, butterfly, fillet, and slather lemon-juice on that big bastard." She gives a smile. "That was something to watch."

TEST: It looks like the boards are failing to process special characters in new posts for some reason. ?????Al?ta, Aernel?th, Tuonw?, ?, ?, ?, ?.

Justin: Yeah, Alis was still pretty beat-up (14/22) so starting with the channel makes the most sense. After the 3rd LoH, Lureene is back to full HP, although she still has a good bit of nonlethal that she'll just have to work thru.

Eric: Until enough time has gone by for the remaining nonlethal damage to heal naturally (4.5 hours), and then for her to get a full night's rest, she will be treated as shaken. Also, this would be a good time for you to swap out those flaws that we talked about.

It takes Priyya some time, but eventually she manages to return Lureene to consciousness. However, the young beauty is clearly disoriented and keeps trying to drift off to sleep (which Priyya advises Alis is very dangerous with a concussion).

Holding Lureene in her arms and trying to keep her attentive, Alis can't help but overhear the conversation between Mal and Priyya.

"Yes, thanks be to Alita for gracing us with Priyya and her gifts. And thank you Priyya for always taking care of us. I hate that we're always having to depend on you like this especially, when it could have possibly been avoided."

Alis helps Lureene back to her feet, pretty much holding her up by herself.

"This," she points to the lump on the back of Lureene's head and shoulder, "this should never have happened though, Mal! If you could have taken the giant down so easily like that at any time, then you should have fought like that from the get-go. I know you're in your element here, that... display of yours made that pretty evident. However, this isn't your own personal game refuge and we're not bait."

"And no, before you ask it's not alright for you to get all torn up yourself instead." She shakes her head, clearly upset. "In case you haven't noticed, in spite of your vulgar mannerisms Sasha isn't the only woman here who fancies you as mate. Even beyond all the pain and anguish it causes, it's an abuse of Priyya's station to have to keep asking a Surya-ka-Vahaak to step away from their fight to keep healing others like this all the time. It's an abuse of her heart to let yourself and those she cares about get torn-up and hurt without need."

"Even if none of that matters to you though, just remember that if she or I use up all our healing magic treating injuries that could have been avoid by exercising better tactics, what will we have left when someone really gets hurt because of something unavoidable? I might keep asking myself why Larathiel sent you along with me, but I'll be damned if I'm going to have any of you turn up dead on my watch!"

The tiny woman is practically shaking from the strength of her emotions as she looks up at the towering hunter, still covered in blood and gore from his kill. "I don't expect you to like me or to agree with me, but I do expect you to execute the orders your C.O. gave you to the best of your ability. Understand?"

After a several heartbeats with indigo eyes locked on green eye she asks, "Now then, what is your professional assessment on how we should proceed here, Sergeant? Do we search the area, take to the high-ground, continue following Ieana's tracks, or some other option that Priyya and I are overlooking?"

While she is dimly aware of the raised voices around her, of the warmth of Alis' body, and a constant pounding in her skull, that's not what holds Lureene's attention. Instead, it is the procession of little yellow canaries with bat wings flying around her head whispering arcane secrets to her.

In an epiphany, the pseudo-succubus finally understands how it is that Alexis is able to perform her spellcasting without overly complex movements. The grandness of the flourishes themselves are not even what is important, but rather the practiced knowledge behind them. She suddenly shifts her weight, holding her hands up in front of her face, trying very hard to focus on her own hands.

There is the momentary sensation of vertigo as she experiences a momentary lapse in her own weight, but something catches her, keeps her from falling. With an almost giddy laugh, she follows the procession of chirping bat-birds as they hop into a dark chest full of wonders.

No need to keep my eyes open in here, it's so dark. I have other sense now...

Alis is nearly toppled by Lureene as the incoherent woman seemingly tries to lurch for something standing three feet behind her. Feet scrambling beneath her, the princess just barely catches Lureene under her arms, her golden head coming to rest on Alis' chest.

The sound of Lureene snoring into her bosom elicits a worried sigh. "Come on El!" She pats her gently yet firmly on the cheek, speaking in a loud voice, "I've told you before, I'm not a pillow. On your feet, lady, stay with me!"

With a bit of effort, she gets the wobbly wizardess back on her feet. Keeping her knees bent, Alis holds Lureene's left hand, securing her retainer's left arm across her shoulders. She then wraps her right arm around El's waist, keeping their hips close for support and balance.

"Priyya, please see if you can twist El's sword belt around so her rapier is on the other? actually... see if you can just unclip it from the frog and stash it in my pack for now. I don't think she's going to be doing any fighting for a bit."

Couldn't Priyya use her healing power to just remove the non-lethal damage?

Lureene giggles quietly to herself, "Awww...come back little birdies, I want to play with you...". As her eyes roll back into her head, Alis shakes her awake gently. As Lureeen looks at Alis in the face, the princess is struck by just how young Lureene looks now. There is hardly a trace of her demonic heritage showing now. She remembers the first time they had met back at the Silver Hart inn, and how sensuous and sultry she had been. It is like she has grown younger by leaps and bounds. Considering what she knows of her early childhood, it occurs to her she never really had one.

All in all, considering how happy Lureene looks now, maybe this could be a blessing in disguise...hopefully.

Ugg ninja'd twice...Justin, I believe it is because of the amount of non lethal damage she took exceeded her total HP.

LK Calendar: Uniens 07, 4210 ? Starsday (day 2) | LK Time: 6:00et (eventide, 6:00pm)

As all of you debate amongst yourselves, still deciding what to do, the Sun dips ever lower on the horizon. Although the clouds above are still illuminated in golds and reds, the gorge you are in has become quite dark. Somewhere to the east and south, you can hear a faint cry not unlike the one given by whatever that monster was that killed the goats earlier.

Ben: If Alis' reactions don't make any sense, let me know in chat and I'll fill-in any questions you might have.

Mal:
Somehow, in spite of the spell upon you, you find yourself feeling quite warm. There's also an unsettling sensation in your gut and you're quite certain it is not attributable anything the tiny woman before you just said. As if that would get to you after the things you've had to endure out in the 'Shade with the marines. Hell, compared to your drill sergeants, Alis might as well have been singing you a lullaby.

You can, but being as Lureene would have been cleaved to -19 hp (i.e. dead) had the giant not intended to capture her to roast on a spit later, I think a little bit of verisimilitude is justified. By all rights, Eric should be playing Sasha right now and Priyya performing funerary rites.

Lureene will remain shaken until she's gotten a good night's rest. Consider it psychological trauma from an NDE if you prefer.

Priyya sighs, "Perhaps I should haul Lureene. Her weight is less of a burden for me than for you."

I've got no problem with your 'shaken' call. I was just wondering if there was something in the rules that I wasn't aware of that prevented healing powers from being used on non-lethal damage.
