Zeriax you recall correctly that the drake riders are superb riders and can steer their mounts away from incoming attacks. However if they are targeted themselves they lose that ability. Turning briefly in your aim past the wings of the drake you send a swath of arrows at the rider and land 3 of them. The drake rider seems barely conscious and looks to retreat to heal before engaging again.

While I totally hate swarms, I'm gonna say the drake rider might prove to be more formidable. Here's hoping I'm not wrong on that. But just to be safe, I wouldn't advise gambling on me being right. :P

The swarm, finding that it has a ready meal where it is, stay and munches on Nasira and Pakak.

Recognizing the seriousness of the fight they are in, Nasira husbands her divine energy to aid her friends rather than striking out against their enemies. She stoically weathers the annoyance of the swarm, knowing that it is a temporary concern, and moves to stay with Garith as he enters the ruined keep.

Thinking Pakak will want to stay close both for Garith's protection and Nasira's healing.

I could provide resist electricity to everyone except Zeriax (because of line of effect) but I am going to hold off for the moment.

What kind of swarm is this? Do we even know? Looking back, it says the derakni cast the swarm. So I'm gonna go with a demon swarm of some type.

Can a swarm take an A0O? Can ones attacking Zeriax at the top of the wall still reach Pakak? If he's unable to move, Nasira will push him down and raise her shield over both of them. I can't give him AC, but I can give him cover. It just won't help with the swarm.

Edit: It is a swarm of bats, per Variel's description when it was summoned. Pakak should know that it's not a long-lasting effect, I would think.


Swarms do not get aoo. The drake rider is up in the air and thus not in reach of Pakak.

even with a successful save the swarm is torched by Pakak freeing them. However they are still taking bleed damage of 1 per round till him and Nasira are healed.

Morgrym hears Nasira's plea and flies over a pace to lay waste to the riderless drake. The raging barbarian misses with his first 2 swings. focusing himself he swings again and connects solidly. Having found his mark he uses his inner strength to gain another attack which literally takes the drake's head off with the massive blow. crit confirmed...dead drake

he has taken damage based on his AC of 28 I show he has taken 78 damage and has 3 bleed going on! Your channel would have him included.

OK, I had no idea Zeriax was getting it handed to him so thoroughly. Based on Variel's math, he's now at 24 hp after that healing, not enough to be perched on the wall getting full-attacked. Here's my suggestion: He uses acrobatics to drop to the ground inside the wall - his slow fall ability should make it moot, actually - and he does a vital strike on the rider. Next round, Nasira goes for a uber-heal on him. In case the group finds that acceptable, I will roll in the spoiler here (no fair peeking until after you decide):

Zeriax' action?:

Acrobatics to fall sans damage, only if necessary: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (18) + 20 = 38

Vital Strike vs rider: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35
Damage: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (4, 7) + 10 = 21
I'm unsure if those boni include his favored enemy vs evil outsiders or not

Back from vacations!

I have no issue with Nasira's suggested actions, but the thing is if the drake and its rider simply turn around, they wipe out Pakak or Nasira easily in a single round. They are attacking and hitting really hard.

That is about the only reason why Zeriax stood up top - we have about zero battlefield control and close to zero ranged damage (apart from Zeriax and the occasional spell from Pakak), but still we need somehow to split the threats. Had they be focusing all on any single one of us and that would probably have meant at least one death by now.

Good call. To retcon slightly since I know how injured Zeriax is, Nasira use her ability to deliver touch spells at short range to cast cure serious wounds on Zeriax, followed by a mythic point to channel (shown above). This healing is for Zeriax.

The lone drake attacks Zeriax as the rest of the demons move forward to get closer to the action and blood. The bebelith climbs over the walls and is within reach of the gate should anyone get past it.
