With only Beck and Helgash overcoming the nausea inducing shriek they try to lay into the mandragora. Both however are feeling the effects of the others puking around them and cant concentrate enough to land the blow.
The mandragora targets Beck with its bite while it uses its reach to go after Variel.

Beck is hit hard by the bite but the mandragora can not latch its mouth on tight enough to grapple Beck. Both tentacles flail at Variel but are ineffective somehow.

Venja stays out of the creature's way, but as a move action, pulls out an alchemist's fire, preparing herself for when she feels up to throwing it.

Variel steps up and attacks the mandragora trying to take some of the pressure off of Beck and the others so they can recover from the piercing shriek. Hoping to do as much damage as possible Variel takes his usual stance so he can cast spells and attack at the same time while enhancing his rapier.

Variel lands a solid hit with his magic empowered attack but the mandragora ignores the acid damage entirely. The blow was just off though that it did not hit a vital location as Variel would have liked.

The group slowly starts to recover from the shriek as Variel and moves up and hits the mandragora. Beck also has great luck as he is able to hit it just barely getting past the defenses to bruise what would likely be its shoulder. Helgash reaches through the double doors with his bardiche to harass the mandragora now that Beck has moved out of the way. Even though the doors do not hinder him as they are opened up so wide the mandragora sidesteps in time to avoid the blow.
Venja pulls out a flask while Jetro continues to hurl in the corner. Xanxan holds onto Sheelah as Sheelah moves up to be able to attack it next round. The problem is that Sheelah is starting to get covered in the gnome's vomit and it is making her quite upset.

Being hit by both Beck and Variel the mandragora lashes out again as it did before targeting Beck witht eh bite and Variel witht he 2 tentacles.

Venja steps to the side and launches an alchemist fire at the plant creature 1d20 + 3 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 3 - 4 - 2 = 14 for 1d6 ⇒ 3 fire damage. The small creature is able to jump out of the way but not before it still takes 1 point of fire damage from the flask splashing over it.
Xanxan continues to hurl into his bag as discreetly as possible thinking that he is finally getting over the sickness while Sheelah flails at the mandragora with force but not accuracy. Her master does the same as his club just nicks Helgash's bardiche throwing off his attack as well. Helgash takes some of Variel's wounds through the established link causing Variel to feel a bit more up for the fight.

Beck gets hit by the bite but just manages to avoid being caught in the sharp teeth of the mandragora. Variel avoids 1 tentacle but the resilient creature manages to get past his defenses still injuring the elf and seeping poison into his body once again.

Variel is just able to shrug off the poison as he steps to the side to flank with Beck. Hoping to again continue his trend of hits he attacks twice even knowing tha the acid wont do much.

Variel's first attack is a miss but the flank paid off as he was able to hit with the acid aided attack for full damage to the creature.

Beck and Sheelah combine for a deadly barrage of attacks that leave the mandragora reeling. Jetro gets into the action as well now that he has stopped puking and places an arrow just past Beck's right ear as Beck moves out of the way. The arrow lands and impales one of the 2 tentacles holding the creature at bay for a moment. Sheelah managed to get hold of the other tentacle and bend the small creature down closer to the ground. It is in this position that Helgash and Xanxan both strike at the creature. Helgash unleashes his bardiche attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 for 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Xanxan also stabes outward with his blade now that he is not puking in his little bag that is overflowing with vomit. Dropping the bag on the mandragora gives a satisfying splurch sound as Xanxan drives his blade home.

The plants shrieks one last time but not to the extent of the first time. Instead this is its death rattle as it slumps over dead as the group shows what it is quite capable of.
Nice job guys. That was one of the nastier creatures here besides the final end boss. Too bad it never got the grapple off as a successful grapple causes blood drain (con damage).

Moving things along a bit to clear out this level...
After everyone has done whatever it is they need to after the battle the group hurries on to the kitchen. Opening up the door 2 atomies and a sprigging can be seen at work. They completely ignore you and go about their duties until someone steps forward and into the room. At that point the atomies and sprigging shout to leave them alone and start hurling cutlery and knives at the group. The sprigging even casts scare to make people flee. Stepping back out of the room the help goes back to their chores and everyone figures to leave well enough alone and let them be. After all they are only dong their chores and would get beaten or worse by the witches according to Hatch if they would screw up something.
Level 2 map revealed. Only options are the ice teleporters in Q13 and where Venja is located.

[Good with you having the cure mod potion as you are taking damage from Beck and myself. Works pretty well that way.
I agree that up is the way to go but which ice portal should we go to. Hatch gave us the code to get to the dining room but do you think the same words will work for these?

To save time and a fruitless encounter and no the kitchen help is not going to give you any information.
Trying the words at the north ice teleporter does nothing and you get the same results at the east teleporter. However when you touch the east teleporter the 2 ice statue nymphs come alive and attack. Made of ice they do not last long as 2 alchemist flasks are thrown at them and they melt into water. That combined with a horrible AC and Sheelah ripping into them ends a futile threat.

That means 10 more hit points for both Beck and Variel, and less 20 for Helgash. Then downing a Cure Moderate Wounds potion.

I am good on spells but like you said healing is at a premium. We do not know what is beyond these portals. I will go with what the group decides. We have claimed 2 levels of this place and eliminated many threats, how many more are there I wonder. If we do rest I should think that we go to the bottom level where we know the portals come and go and post a double watch.

Looking at the loot list, I see still 2 Cure Light Potion and 3 cure Moderate Pots - if that is up to date, I would take one Cure Moderate, one Cure Light, and bum another Cure Light from Jetro.

Huh, there looks to be a keyhole by the mirrors. So lets at least find us them keys eh? Beck will search Meirul and the guard's rooms thoroughly for the Keys that fit the locks he found, and continue searching if nothing is found.
