"Yes, Caerwyn, I believe that is exactly the tale of which I was thinking."

Looking at the dwarven fighter steadily, she replies, "I have been instructed to join forces with you and your 'friends', good dwarf, so we are here. Duur and I will see this through to the successful conclusion or die trying. Have no doubt of that." She glances over at her armored compatriot, who makes eye contact with the dwarf briefly and returned to crunching the bone he's eating.

"Of course, our survival is enhanced if we use our resources better. The primary role of my friend here is to protect me, but his blades are available for tasks that do not contradict that mission. Is that not so, Duur?" The intimidating little fellow looks at her and goes back to eating.

"As for myself, my spellcasting is not overpowering, but I have a fair amount of versatility. I have trained as a wizard, but I have also graduated from the war wizard college and served with the Imperial army. As a result, many of my spells are offensive, but they are not of overwhelming power.

I position myself next to the dwarven priest and try to look at the map as well.

Out loud: Done we have three new companions. Fox & Durr you will fall into the middle of the group with the other spell casters Astinos will direct your actions. Caerwyn Dom you will go to point as Thorhen did and act as our eyes and ears. Kaluna get them into the mind link. Someone negotiate with the Fea to get that door open. Everyone who has not - review the map quickly it may be your only chance to find and escape route in case everything goes bad.

<ok; am emailing out the map; but if I miss you; just email me back as I dont want to miss anyone and there are a fair amount of you and I dont have your addies memorized.>

Anyone looking at the map can make a religion roll; +5 to the dc if your not Greek or Roman.

dc 10

Spoiler:

this is a crypt

dc 14
Spoiler:

this is a crypt of heroes and noteworthy mortals who have died and slumber restlessly

dc 18
Spoiler:

this is a crypt as above; but marked with color pillars for the acolytes to manuever with each marker being a color corresponding to a diety whose undying guards patrol their area.

dc 22
Spoiler:

as above; and the guards will not leave their dieties consecrated ground; the acoyltes are the only ones who may move freely and unchallenged in these areas; each door leads to a crypt; some crypts are thousands of years old; plundering the dead here is said to draw the wrath of Hades himself.

dc 25
Spoiler:

as above; but with the death of so many dieties; it is likely several of the areas are unpredicable as the guards may have vanished or gone amoke in those regions; also; you may know a few names of heroes interred in a few of these tombs; most heroes and statesmen are interred with their gear and some wealth to take to the other side; but ony their bodies are here; their souls are drawn through the Helmouth closeby and into the afterlife though there are many instances where they may come back; and with the planes of extistance so weakened; that is probably much easier now than ever.
also, there are mundane traps the worshipers of Hades places inside any crypt to protect the slumber of the dead. the dead here are often like they were in life; some good; some evil; most nuetral unless they are controlled by a priest, shaman; or the like.

dc 30
Spoiler:

ok; you know a lot more names of those interred here and have heard many stories of those who have tried to steal things and the traps they have encountered; disease; acid; fire; magical life drains and the ever present shades that walk in unlife. The dead are very selfish in most cases and are far removed from the living; in speaking to them; a speaker must find a theme that has incited the undead to walk in the mortal realm and that theme is always self centered.

"aye, there miss kitty; enemies apleanty to be shore; if yea seek to apply your might by strength of arms; you're sure to be attended and interred here abouts ifn your not eaten directly as it were.

My eyes and ears report that the guards are just wandering bumpkins and shouldnt cause to much fuss and their not very bright; but those in the main chamber itself; not represented here; theirs is another lot alltogether. Shamans, mystics of various sorts of the darkest kind. The Eye Tyrants and the 'Flayers are likely to respond the fastest; the snakes take some warming up; but keep in the old back of yer noggins; that most of their powers is keeping your Missus all chained up; sunder the chains and she may break free; lend her your faith and she'll be even stronger. I am guessin that their main focus is to keep the good woman down; but if you break her loose; all of them gonna turn to you with all kinds of ugly; so skat before that cause ifn they gits ya; ther wont be much more than a grease spot to clean up. You gots ta have some proper respect here; not what i done seen from you this far. These grubbies done captured a goddess of the earth and and keepin her captive by keeping her off the earth and blocking her summons for help. Now; I suspect; am guessing here with my superior knowledge of magic types; I suspect they are loath to drop their chanting and this mob magic they are producing; but there are probably only a few free to act - and they be pleanty tuff I am guessing - but as long as they think they can keep the spell up; they will keep at it; now; I fair count maybe 144 of them and casters on one type or another all. 12 rings of 12 in concentric circles like an inverted pryamid with the top near her feat; that is what binds her power; the chains bind her strength. Break one or the other and she has a shot at freedom. the thing you gots to figure; is how to do that without getting bag, tagged, and mounted yer ownselves.

I gather my belongings, make sure my swords are loose in their scabbards, and prepare to lead the way as soon as everyone is ready. "I believe the bad guys are in the black section of the crypt" I tell the group.

Kemnebi also looks a bit,... skeptical, at Aahz' suggestion. He shakes his head slightly,
"Well,... It would be very distracting," Kemnebi says thoughtfully, and politely.
"But as most of the undead wouldn't appreciate it the same way that living adults do,... It would probably be more distracting for US, worrying about the safety of all three of you flying into the middle of that horde! I appreciate your willingness to take such a dangerous strategy Aahz, and maybe we can keep it as a possibility of last resort, But I for one would feel much safer if we all stuck together, where we can assist and defend each other."

"I also am loathe to risk splitting up into smaller groups. But, If both you and your sister think that Aahz's plan has merit, then we must consider it. There must be some way we can go in high and low, and still protect each other." He muses, looking at the map with a frown, still holding June's hand.

"And I have no intention of losing you, or anybody. Promise me another kiss like the first, and you shall not need a cleric to raise me from the dead! I shall return unaided!" He adds with a mischievous grin.

"'Event of Importance'?" Kemnebi asks, pronouncing the Capital letters just as Decidio did. "This just keeps getting better. Well, at least if they are all countering each other we won't have to worry about a divine coup-de-grace'. He flinches and looks at the ceiling when Aahz ducks, although he can still see nothing.

"June, you said that you three could probably break the chains around her head. What do we need to do to sunder or open the chains holding her legs?"

"disruptive magic and a strong blow from a magic hammer, axe or pick should do it"

Fox has gotten up and approached Kemnebi in order to speak to him more easily about arcane tactics and hears June's answer. Out loud, she asks the catfolk mage, "'disruptive magic'? Is that something you can provide? I believe I'm familiar with such magic, but it's still beyond my abilities."

She moves closer to the catfolk, opposite side from June, and begins to discuss in more detail her abilities, deferring to him as being with the group longer.

Kemnebi:

Spoiler:
You can see her spellbook in the profile, but the basic idea is to use her Wizard slots for non-offensive spells since her Warmage spells can do little but offense. Also, her armor and shield hinder her spellcasting pretty severely, so she's not in the habit of preparing her highest-level spells at all -- she uses Still Spell on the next-to-highest level spells if they require somatic components. As a result, her firepower is a bit underpowered for fifth-level. I'm hopeful that if she survives to Ultimate Magus, things will even out. Either way, at the moment, she's definitely the junior member of the spellcasting corps. Feel free to make suggestions/give orders in character, she'll do her best to comply.

Kemnebi also begins to get quite energetic as the plans begin to fly.

"Excellent! That means that basically all we have to do is get close, and hit the things! Hm. Maybe we should all stay together at first, safety in numbers, and free the leg bindings first, then the ladies can escort Aahz upwards, and free the head restraints? I might have a spell that would let me join you in the air, I've never tried to use it in that way before,..." He muses.

"Aahz is right about the depth of the defensive ring, but we don't have to fight ALL of them, just punch a hole THROUGH to the center. The ones in the rest of the room won't be able to get to us to fight us. We don't even need to worry about them closing off our escape. Once we free the goddess, they'll be too busy to worry about us!" The feline grins happily.

"And with the scrolls, we may be able to provide a surprise they aren't prepared for!" He adds excitedly. He bends his head with Fox, June, and Nebibit, asking his friend for recommendations about enhancing their magics, and defensive blessings and spells they can use to protect as many of the party as possible, for as long as possible.

Fox has only just met him, and so would not notice, but the feline mage displays none of his usual hesitancy or uncertainty while discussing Conjurations, Evocations, and spell strategies. He also seems completely at ease with having ended up in the center of a group of women. Although he obviously only has eyes for June at the moment,...

What say you Taskmaster of "those who destroyed my field and crushed me dwellings". Long have I kept an eye on yea and those yea send out by our pact and agreement. What be the import of this hare disasterous agenda? What might I tell da Queens ta back dis folley?

<also; seems I remember Baelinor giving you a rod of smiting right?>

Been rereading pages 5-9; think page 6 has the items that were given by Baelinor; though some would be missing; though Bob returned a few that he borrowed from some characters not in the game anymore.

Erkholt; remember that you also have met the High Priestess of Isis; who gave you many scrolls and <to the group> Imperial sanction from the Pharoah; who is also at the Well, bringing out any of those scrolls would should put you very high in esteem of the Egyptian characters as that High Priestess is number two in rank of all Eygpt and you have her direct blessing.

<Isis; Queen of the Egyptian dieties; Goddess of Magic and Fertility, Widow of Osiris - you would know this from Herald having announced her.>

Doors; no magic

"Doesnt appear to be any magic on these obstacles...um, doors. So I dont think the King of Leprechauns has much to do about them. Perhaps try a more normal method of moving such obstacles...doors? Certainly one of these new friends should be able to open that which their friends closed? I think yon King might be a bit upset asked to do such a task and perhaps question our worth yet again?"

[To Blarney Jo] "Aye yor lordship, I be rememberin' ye right enough. Ye brought the wee fae lass as acoompanied me on the ship across the sea ter this place. I appologise, fer our paths separated once we landed ashore and I dinnae know where she got to. Tis twice now ye've stepped in ter help me on me quest, and I be owin' ye a debt o' gratitude fer such. Thank ye"

I bring out the various scrolls I have in the hopes of sharing them around, particularly to those who can wield magic of a divine nature.

ooc - If you follow the link to my character page, there is a list of the scrolls that Baelinor and the egyptian princess provided for me and the others when we first went on this quest. They were never fully identified, but I wrote down what I believe they do from the descriptions Val provided at the time.

Val

Spoiler:
Thanks for the reminders. I actually realised this guy was Blarney Jo when you were describing him, but have been very busy with work so hadn't gotten around to dropping that info in game yet.

I had completely forgotten about the egyptian high priestess though.

I have the rod written down, though I have it recorded as a light mace. I never did get the chance to work out what it does, though some if its properties as described by you may prove very useful in breaking the chains of the goddess.

Cheers

Nebibit has a look over the scrolls to ascertain what they do

Is it appraise or spellcraft to identify a magic scroll?

I believe it is spellcraft.

Always interested in different types of magic, the masked halfling comes over to look past Nebbit's elbow. "I am unlikely to be able to use these myself, but I have studied many scrolls as part of my training. Perhaps I can help determine their intent."

It appears there are seven in total, though Erkholt seems to have identified some based on his notes. Seven rolls for seven scrolls, spaced for legibility's sake:

Spellcraft 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
Spellcraft 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26

Spellcraft 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
Spellcraft 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19

Spellcraft 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Spellcraft 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32

Spellcraft 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
