| Corso Gaczi |
"Well, I tell you what: We've been searching for a cure all this time and we do look desperate. Now I understand how a fellow like you could see it as an opportunity to fleece some fellow citizens, but I don't have much time for this. So let's leave it at that and continue our conversation. Would you please get Ripperclaws so we can try to figure where we go next? I would be much obliged." Corso replies, not sounding tense or otherwise threatening, but simply trying to keep things merry and free of slaughter.
Of course, the reason why he's doing things this way and not the usual way might have to do with his deep concern for health and sanitary issues...
Corsario
|
The wererat point the bow towards you again.
"I am not a fellow citizen! I am a monster! You attack us and kill us, and now that you face sickness you want to talk and find a cure! Go and die up there or we will kill you right now!"
| Corso Gaczi |
Corso in unfazed by the threat: "Well, that's a nice bow, and I bet that arrow tip is sharper than you, because you can't figure that everyone on the surface doesn't think the same way. I promise you though, that I'll remember that this also applies to you folks down here, so I won't think all of you are out to get us, and accordingly, I won't go on slaughtering every last one of you once I'm finished with your thin skin..."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
"Now get Ripperclaws down here before I stab your skinny belly full of silver..."
Corsario
|
The wererat jumps back a little at Corso threat.
"Wait! Wait! Ok, I will call him. Give me a minute. But don't enter. And if I were you, I ran out before he comes and kill you all. He really doesn't like your kind."
He moves out, back into the cave, while another wererat, previously hidden, appears, pointing you with another arrow.
Want to do something before Ripperclaws appears?
| Gyllan Dow |
Corsario - can you move Gyllan one square east and one square north, as I described several posts up?
Gyllan waits for the wererat leader to appear, wondering if they're about to have a big fight on their hands. His hand strays once or twice toward his silver-headed mace, but he does not lift it from his belt.
Corsario
|
Gyllan enters the cave a little, and find another wererat flanked by a couple dire rats.
"Stop, don't come any closer!"
| Gyllan Dow |
"Easy, fella, I'm just getting out of the muck and onto dry land," Gyllan says to the wererat. "You and your two big rat pets have nothing to worry about."
I hope the others heard that, so they know who's waiting around the corner from them. I've got a feeling we're in for a few surprises down here, might as well cut them down where I can.
| Iozif Vasile |
Iozif listens to the back and forth between Corso and the guardrat, though he's caught off guard the venom in his friend's voice as he threatens the wererat. I hadn't imagined he had it in him. Still, it seems we'll have a chance to meet with this Ripperclaws. He pulls a vial from his bandolier, downing in a single gulp. Seconds pass, but then his body begins to morph and shift and soon he's grown a wolf's muzzle to replace his mouth and nose. A glanc at his hands reveal long, sharp claws have grown from his now fur-covered hands.
Drinking my feral mutagen down. It last for 40 minutes from this point. It might also elicit a reaction from Selina, as Iozif didn't think to warn her.
| Iozif Vasile |
Iozif smiles in a reflexive attempt to be disarming, but the effect is slightly grotesque sight given his mutagen's effect on his face. He speaks quietly to the Pharasman cleric, "My apologies, Miss Aldaeth. It's still me, Iozif. I have a knack for alchemical magic and this... form... if you will, has proved useful before."
Corsario

The minutes drag uncomfortably, dampness and stench bigger by the second. The wererats guarding you shift worriedly, the dire rats next to them smelling, moving unnervingly, small dark eyes looking at you, waiting the moment to attack you and make you their next meal.
Suddently a trio of wererats appear from the east, moving slowly and giving a wide berth to the shieking mushroom.
"Ripperclaws will talk to you... go into the next room. Stay away from that mushroom, and move slowly when you are near it."
He signals for you to enter the next chamber (the one on the east), while all of the wererats move to let you pass.
"And leave your weapons here."
| Gyllan Dow |
Gyllan takes a single step forward before he realizes what the wererats have said. He lays a hand on the hilt of his sword and says, "No, I don't think so. We'll talk to him, but I'm not going in unarmed."
He glances around at his companions, fairly sure that they'll agree with him, but willing to be convinced of a different approach.
Corsario
|
The wererat looks distressed.
"Ok... but keeps your weapons away, sheathed. If you draw, we will kill you."
He motions you to proceed into the next room.
DM Roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
| Gyllan Dow |
Take 10 on Sense Motive for an 18.
Gyllan doesn't move from where he stands, having seen the gestures of the wererat. "Stop," he says bluntly. "Your friends didn't notice it, but I did - you signaled them to come behind us, ready to attack. You need to do as my friend suggests, and have Ripperclaw come here to talk to us. We don't know what lies ahead, and have cause for concern. He surely knows his home well enough, and where his guards are, to be confident to come in here and simply talk. It's the closest thing to safe, neutral ground we've got. And you have given me little reason to trust you, with your secret signals and evasions."
Corsario
|
"He won't come out for you, human. If you want to talk to him, you will have to go to him. If you don't want to, you are free to leave and die on the surface."
Corsario
|
The wererat seems impressed, and cowers a little.
"Leave! Leave now! He won't talk to you. He only wants to kill all of your race."
| Gyllan Dow |
Gyllan draws his blade as well, adding to Corso's argument, "If he doesn't come to speak to us, his people are going to begin dying while he waits next door." As he speaks, the shadows of the sewers seem to coalesce around him, making his form harder to distinguish.
Move action to draw weapon, standard to activate Darkness Blessing for a 20% miss chance. If we need to go into initiative before I start doing stuff like that, I'll understand.
Corsario
|
From the other room a chilling scream arrives.
"Kill them! Kill them all!"
Initiative time!
| Gyllan Dow |
I assume you'll follow the standard PbP approach and roll for all of us, rather than taking time to wait for everyone to roll? If you don't do it that way, here's a roll:
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Corsario
|
Wererat Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Dire rat Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
A rain of arrows fall on Gyllan and Rommin.

Shortbow Attack on Rommin: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Handle Animal Check: 1d20 ⇒ 7
The northmost wererat tries to make the dire rats attack you, but it's unable to!
Your turn!
| Iozif Vasile |
Iozif wastes no time after hearing the voice and pulls a glass vial with an unusually shaped stopper from his bandolier. Entering the room, he hurls the vial at one of the nearby wererats. The feral Iozif mutters his thoughts aloud, "I think, perhaps, you have made a grave miscalculation."
Move action to get into the room and out of everyone's way (space down-right of Rommin). Standard to toss a bomb at the wererat directly to the right of Iozif (with the 2 near him).
Fire bomb attack vs touch with point-blank: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 1 = 11
Fire bomb damage vs direct (if it hits): 2d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4, 6) + 2 + 1 = 13 Blast is 5 damage with DC 14 for half

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Iozif's bomb flies past the wererats, but still still are splattered with the bomb's shrapnel.
| Selina Aldaeth |
Selina takes a 5' step behind Corso and invokes Pharasma's name for aid in the battle. She casts Bless on the party.
Bless
Duration: 4 minutes (40 rounds)
| Corso Gaczi |
Corso steps in the room, waving his sword about in a threatening manner and shouts, his words filled with eldritch might: "Why am I NOT surprised! You fools do not realize that this is your city as well as ours, and its end will spell your end, because all you can do is prey on others! so what will you do when it all comes down? Who will you prey on when the city falls? I will see your dirty, flea-ridden pelts poked full of holes before this day is through!!!"
Move ten feet in (in front of Rommin) and cast Blistering Invective Intimidate: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26; 30 feet; Fire damage: 1d10 ⇒ 5 Reflex DC 15 or catch fire.
| Gyllan Dow |
The shadows swirling around Gyllan cause the first wererat's arrow to miss him! "You won't get a second chance," Gyllan says darkly as he steps forward and swings his blade in a low, flat arc at both wererats!
5-foot step NE, attack western wererat. Assuming a 21 hits, he'll take a second attack with Cleave on the other wererat.

Selina moves a step ahead and make the blessing of Pharasma fill her allies with bravery and courage.
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
All of the visible enemies are literally scolded by Corso's insult, the dire rats burning to a crisp, while two of the wererats catch fire!
The shrieker mushroom starts making a terrible noise, reverberating on the cave. I had forgot that detail!
Corsario
|
In a flash Gyllan is standing next to the northern wererats, hitting them with powerful strikes... which don't damage them as much as it should!
They have big damage resistance!
Corsario
|
You are right, the second one is headless and prancing around...
And yes, demoralized.
| Rommin Hawkridge |
Rommin rushes forward, pulling out his flail as he does so. Seeing Gyllan has the northern rats well in hand, he moves to the south and swinging on a wererat as soon as he is close enough.
Moving south, past Iozif and attacking the southeastern most wererat on the southern walkway.
To hit 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 8 - 2 + 1 = 12 Power attack and Bless, using a silver weapon.
Damage 1d10 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 6 = 21
Corsario
|
Rommin finds very hard to charge on the waterway, and the noise is very distracting, and fails to connect with the enemy.
The Northern Wererat takes a step back, and tries to make the dire rats attack.
Handle Animal Check: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Not only he is not able to, but the rats run away, scurrying on some cracks on the north of the cave.
The wererat takes a step back, drops his bow and gets an old shortsword out, and screams.
"Help! Come and help me!"
The noise of the shrieking mushroom drowns most of his plea.
More later...
Corsario

On fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
On fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Both the burning wererats jump and roll in the stagnant water to put the fire out. The last one, seeing itself alone, withdraws into the next room.
"They are coming!"
Your turn!
The wererats with downward arrows are prone.
| Gyllan Dow |
"Sorry, friend, too late for that," Gyllan says, his shadowed form stepping forward. He raises his blade and brings it down in a diagonal arc, ending in the chest of the one on the ground!
5-foot step north, attack with Cleave, hitting non-prone one first. Also, I just recalled that they count as human, which is my favored enemy, so will add the bonuses this round.
Greatsword, Power Attack, Bless, FE: 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 8 - 2 + 1 + 2 = 28 Against non-prone one, crit threat
Greatsword damage, Power Attack, FE: 2d6 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (6, 2) + 11 + 2 = 21
Greatsword, Power Attack, Bless, FE: 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 - 2 + 1 + 2 = 26 Cleave attack, vs prone (didn't take prone AC adjustment into account)
Greatsword damage, Power Attack, FE: 2d6 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 11 + 2 = 19
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 - 2 + 1 + 2 = 23
Crit damage: 2d6 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 11 + 2 = 19
Nice! 40 points this time! That's one way to deal with DR.
Status: 35/39, -2 AC
| Corso Gaczi |
Corso moves in, drawing his silver dagger as he slips in front of Gyllan, infusing the blade with cackling energy, and stabs at the wererat.
Silver dagger with Bless, pa, as: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 8 - 1 = 271d4 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 11
confirm: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 8 - 1 = 241d4 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 11
The blade sinks deep in the creature's throat: "Told you..." Corso grumbles.
| Rommin Hawkridge |
Rommin presses his attack, trying to clear the way to the passage east.
To hit 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 8 - 2 + 1 = 27 Power attack and Bless, using a silver weapon.
Damage 1d10 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 6 = 22
Edit: Possible crit.
Confirm 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 8 - 2 + 1 = 15 Power attack and Bless, using a silver weapon.
