Olimpia badly wounds another Smiler, and JJ finishes him off with a shot. Botting JJ.
The surviving Smilers turn in shock, half their number are dead and one is badly wounded.

Figgy Greasefitter |
"Come on springy we can..." Figgy sees that Olimpia and Raktar have the one smiler in hand. "We can help Roga with..." Figgy turns just to see the Over sized Roga chop twice into the poor smiler.
"Guess we can just see to those ratfolk?' Figgy starts walking over to where Dilana is flying.
GM_DBH |
You quickly dispose of the remaining Smilers.
The Ratfolk are wary, but also hopeful and offer to escort you to their leader Redtooth, who is looking for strong allies.
You are led through the warren by the Ratfolk you rescued, you can see it would be a difficult area to attack, the tunnels are only 4' high, and several times you pass through rooms with large numbers of Dire rats, only restrained by your escort.
Map up top.
Redtooth herself greets you in her throne room, asking what it is you have come to Scrapwall for?
What are you telling her, and do you have any questions of your own?
Figgy Greasefitter |
Figgy walks around amazed at the tunnels the ratfolk have made, "My people do things like this to Springy, just with less rabid rats and more golems and earth elementals to guard them. Fascinating this is though." Figgy makes soem drawings
Raktar Garnok |
The narrow tunnels and hordes of rats within them make Raktar uneasy, but the ratfolk seem trustworthy for now.
"We are here investigating the being known as Hellion. We believe that it has set it's plans in motion, both in Scrapwall and further afield, and we're seeking allies here in town," Raktar says, hesitant to reveal too much about themselves or their allegiances at this stage.
GM_DBH |
Redtooth sighs and you can see the tension leaving her small frame. She gestures for stools to be bought for you and gives you her story.
Unlike the majority of the region's outcasts, exiles , and fugitives, Redtooth was born in Scrapwall . She's always seen the junkyard as a home rather than just a place to hide, and regards the other gangs who come and go as transitory distractions at best, or troublemaking dangers at worst. She claimed control of her band of fellow ratfolk years ago,
and made a name for herself and her clan as an almost institutional force in Scrapwall. The other tribes respected Redtooth's Raiders, and maybe even feared them. Her gang never made a claim at ruling Scrapwall, but most of the gangs who did achieve such levels of success did so with
the Raiders' support. Redtooth's Raiders are, in a strange way, the closest thing that Scrapwall has to a police force.
That was, until the rise of the Lords of Rust. As Hellion's power has grown, its ability to grant spells to followers has engendered a greater, more fanatic loyalty in its gang than any other Scrapwall gang has managed before. Redtooth must now endure what she thought to be
impossible-a mass defection of her people to another gang. As an atheist herself, she's always held that the greatest loyalty one could have is to oneself, closely followed to loyalty to the tribe . But when Hellion's teachings grew and spread, many of her followers became believers. The Lords of Rust rose to prominence as the most powerful gang in Scrapwall not with Redtooth's aid and support, but by poaching its members. Red tooth has seen her tribe's scrap-worth dwindle significantly over the past year, and now it's dropped to a point where the previously unthinkable has happened-a rival gang, the Smilers, has declared war on them.
Between having several of her people defect to the Lords of Rust and facing new aggression from the Smilers, Redtooth and her raiders have been forced into a defensive role, venturing out of their dens only as needed to scavenge for food or supplies. Now and then, invasions by the Smilers force the ratfolk out to defend their slowly diminishing
territory, but Redtooth knows they're fighting a losing war-particularly after the recent loss of her brother, Whiskifiss, who was captured by the Smilers not long ago.
Redtooth offers to reward you if you can free her brother and end the Smilers before more of her people are lost. She has a small stash of valuable technology that she can offer should you succeed.
Should you destroy the Smilers that would give you some time before the Lords of Rust send more of their lackeys to secure the western region of Scrapwall. Time that you can use to explore, and gather more information and technology.
What is your response?
Dilana Hemlock |
As the battle ends Dilana lands next to the rat-folk and is all smiles, very proud of her strafing run. Surely she asks at least one of them if they saw it and thought it looked impressive.
Once seated Lancelot skiters out of her clothing and perches on top of her head to hear the story.
"So he really can grant spells? That seems most disturbing, of course Lancelot helps me cast spells and he is not so impressive.
As far as the Smiles go I think we we took care a bunch of those flesh eaters at a fort. Did you know they eat the flesh of sentient beings? Unpleasant. Our plan is to handle them next I think."
Roga, savage technologist |
Now back to normal size, a still impressive Roga smiled, "We don't need any encouragement to kill those cannibals. Perhaps some information of where they are and their defenses and such."
He looked around, "I think we can do this right, free her brother and kill the Smilers, right? I know I WANT to kill the cannibals."
------------
He then walks over to the witch and hands her his healing wand, "Would you mind? That last bullet hit me pretty hard..."
------------
CLW wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Figgy Greasefitter |
"Can we see the technology you have before we go? Just for my own sake, I will offer my help regardless. I bet those Smilers have technology just sitting there Springy. Think about it, we can make new things." Figgy moves off to the side for a few moments to talk with Springy.
Olimpia Beta II |
I am willing to help. Olimpia states. And will gladly accept your offered reward. Perhaps you could be persuaded to offer an item or two now knowing that our having them would increase our chances of success?
GM_DBH |
The Raiders stash has been reduced by their efforts to fight off the Smilers, but they do have some prized items they can offer you, mainly as these are sized for humans and so the Ratfolk have difficulty using them.
What they offer if you will agree to attack the Smilers and rescue Redtooth's brother is:
5 batteries (6, 8, 3, 10, 6 charges)
2 nanite canisters
A flare gun,
2 arc grenades (5d6 electric)
A flechette grenade (5d6 piercing)
3 zero grenades (5d6 cold)
A wand of cure moderate wounds (18 charges)
A trauma pack plus.
What they offer as reward should you succeed is:
A Arc pistol
A suit of smart armor.
A Gravity clip.
All these items are not time worn.
It's a lot, but they are on the verge of destruction and are willing to pay for survival.
What is the party doing now?
New link up top giving you the details of the new items.
Raktar Garnok |
That is some awesome tech, the smart armour is the first bit of tech I'm actually excited about. The gravity clip is pretty cool too, though shame it doesn't stack with lead blades.
"Your offer is very generous, Redtooth," Raktar says as she presents their stash. "We'll do what we can to find your brother and to bring the Smilers down."
Figgy Greasefitter |
do you need proficiency to use the grenades? That trauma pack is pretty awesome
Figgy will search through everything, eyes wide in excitement and wonder. After a while and Roga pulling him away Figgy will settle.
"Well lets get her brother back, I want to try out one of these." Figgy tosses one of the grenades into the air and catches it.
Dilana Hemlock |
Dilana looks at the equipment and shrugs thinking she is fine as she is. The wand is of interest but these good folks may need it.
"The wand could be of use but will your group not have need of it as well? I would be happy to carry it otherwise."
Olimpia Beta II |
Olimpia pockets a zero grenade and says Well, lets go earn all this.
Wow, that trauma pack plus is a breath of life. Whoever has the best Heal skill should use it to maximize its healing BUT they have to be someone who can get to you and use it in one round. Problem is that it takes a move action to get it out and a standard to use it so you have to be adjacent to the person who goes down, or close enough to 5' step next to them. I can imagine a relay where the holder gets the trauma pack plus out and moves and then someone else takes it. 5' steps, and uses it.
GM_DBH |
Redtooth can't tell you much about the Smilers base. Any Raider who has been there hasn't returned. Marrow who leads the Smilers is a feared Hobgoblin Necromancer.
The base it's self is a module from the crashed ship, and so isn't thrown together like much of Scrapwalls dwellings, it has no power though, and is too small to house all the Smilers, so many live in shacks in the territory around the base.
Furthermore the Smilers have piled up as much scrap as they can to make the pathway to the bases entrance a winding, trap ridden path. With several check points manned by the Smilers tougher members.
What are you doing now?
Raktar Garnok |
"I could do with a good night's sleep before we take on the Smilers, my magic is running out and I've got a few wounds that haven't settled yet," Raktar says, gesturing at the bandaged arrow hole in his arm.
Dilana Hemlock |
"Rest is never a bad though, I only used one spell but it might be good to have it ready. Maybe we should try and clear the shacks first? I am not sure that would be an option."
GM_DBH |
You can return to the Clockwork chapel to rest, or stay here. Redtooth offers you a safe place to rest up if you don't mind close quarters and rats. :)
The next day you set off to the NW, where the Smilers base is located. It takes several hours to travel through the rusty maze of Scrapwall to reach your destination.
When you do get close to the base the area clears, you can see where scrap has been dragged to create the high mounds of their defenses. You haven't seen any Smilers while travelling through the area, it seems you are been avoided, or allowed to reach the heart of their territory for some reason?
New map up top. Smilers snare.
What are you doing now?
Figgy Greasefitter |
1st - Cure light, Enlarge Person, long shot, shield, True Strike
2nd - Bulls' Str, Cats Grace, Invisibility
who is taking what from the stockpile, Figgy will take some of the grenades
Olimpia Beta II |
Olimpia has a flare gun already - Note these are one shot items but could be handy in breaking a siege as they can blind in a small area. Diana has the wand. Raktar should likely take the trauma pack plus. Lets split up the grenades. Unsure how useful they will be as they don't go off for a full round after they are thrown. Seems likely someone can throw them back back at us easily if they can 5' step, pick it up, and throw.
Figgy Greasefitter |
Figgy starts to hand out some potions.
"Make the Android invisib...Make Roga Really big....Think we can make Raktar's muscles bigger?" Figgy mumbles to Springy as he walks done the line of his companions.
Bulls Str - Raktar, Olimpia - Invisibility, Roga - Enlarge person
Olimpia Beta II |
Put Olimpia down for 1 zero and 1 arc grenade, and the 8 charge battery. She will also carry the flare gun and the 2 nanite canisters for now.
Olimpia was offering to scout ahead when Figgy pushes the infusion of Invisibility into her hand. Now, it will even be more a pleasure to scout ahead. If I can get behind them I'll hit them from behind as you hit them from the front. Figgy, do you have anything to help me get over the scrap walls?
When the group indicates they are ready Olimpia drinks the infusion, stealths forward to scout, look for traps, and try to get behind the enemy.
Stealth: 1d20 + 20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 20 + 14 = 42
Raktar Garnok |
I'm happy to carry the trauma pack plus - my Heal isn't great but it's probably enough to get by. I'm probably not great with grenades, I'd rather those who are better at ranged attacks carry them.
With his wounds tended to by Dinvaya, Raktar joins the others in their attack on the Smiler's hideout. He gladly accepts Figgy's potion, and though the metallic flavour is unpleasant he feels his muscles growing stronger as he swallows it down. He also uses some of his own magic to guide the weapons and minds of his friends and to increase the raw mass of his hammer before readying himself to fight.
Thanks Figgy. I'll cast bless on everyone and lead blades on my earthbreaker before we get in range of the Smilers. I assume the plan is to walk in and kill them all, unless anyone has any other ideaas?
GM_DBH |
Olimpia you stealth around the path until you see a rough barricade ahead, manned by a group of thugs. Obviously of a tougher mettle than the standard Smiler scum.
The barricade is makeshift, formed from pieces of metal, with the jagged edges projecting outwards, it stand roughly 4' high. None of the thugs has noticed you.
The barricade blocks the path completely, the surrounding walls are made of unstable piles of trash, climbing the wall is possible, but the risk of dislodging the material and causing a noisy slip is high.
What are you doing now?
Olimpia Beta II |
Olimpia curses silently at the unstable wall but continues with her plan.
Climb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Stealth: 1d20 + 20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 20 + 14 = 39
Olimpia Beta II |
Pleased with her stealth so far Olimpia gets into position, infuses her weapon to make it +2 to hit, and waits for the party to show. At first sign on the group she will try to take down one of the two more aware enemies.

Dilana slides along with the group keeping as quiet as she can, waiting for all heck to break lose.
Raktar Garnok |
"I don't fancy trying to climb over that," Raktar says, pointing at the unstable walls of trash and the spiked metal barricade as he rounds the corner. "Maybe we should shoot them from here," he suggests, as Figgy lobs his bomb over the barricade into the group of Smilers. "Yeah, like that," he quips, slipping his hammer back into it's boot and drawing his longbow. He nocks an arrow, then looses it at the nearest Smiler.

Figgy's bomb hits Orange dead on and he howls as flames blast him, his close by friends jump in shck, some catching the edges of the blast.
Raktar puts an arrow solidly into Purple
Botting JJ & Roga
JJ shoots at purple with his double barreled pistol.
Pistol - Double shot: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Olimpia, White missed your attack due to the noise the rest of the party made, so she is still unaware of you.
Surprise round is over. Order of action for round one is up top.
Dilana Hemlock |
Dilana again soars up into the air to start throwing hexes and moves over the wall behind the Smilers.
Olimpia Beta II |
With the enemy focuses on her party Olympia stealths up behind White and attacks.

Figgy Greasefitter |
Figgy moves forward Springy hot behind him, throwing another bomb towards Orange.

Reflex Cyan: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Reflex Magenta: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Green & Magenta both swing hard at Roga.

Cyan decides to step back and deal with Olimpia
Greatclub: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 Yeah, it must be Christmas for some people.
He misses.
Dilana & Olimpia may now take their actions.
Dilana Hemlock |
Dilana shifts her focus to another Smiler {white} and again speaks a word.

Misfortune on white DC15
Raktar Garnok |
Part of the barricade appears to be missing. Is that supposed to be the case or is it an oversight? I'm not keen to climb the spiky metal wall.
