Eugeni’s orc blood keeps him concious as he bleeds out. He calls upon his monkly powers to heal his body silently, playing dead.

Orc ferocity.
Wholeness of body. Heal nine points, putting me at 6.

Well played. But you were at -8, so healing 9 puts you at 1. Also need a bluff check to fake death.

With magically enhanced speed, she lopes over "That's it, you, you...you slithering poopwich!" Zoli blade snakes out, seems about to graze the lamia's arm, but just then the lamia twists and it manages to cut deep into her abdomen.

One ogre falls to the archon's blade, another to Rilee's ball of lightning. As the remaining two continue to struggle in the tentacles, the last one flees back through the cavern.

Lucrecia, meanwhile, looks to Zoli and says, "Let us see how well you fair, little one!" as she lashes out with lightning speed with her twin daggers. Two of the thrusts cut deep into Zoli, one jabbing down into her lung, causing frothy, air mixed blood to seep from the wound!

Swift action:Activate Monkey Style

Monkey Style wrote:
You add your Wisdom bonus on Acrobatics checks. While using this style, you take no penalty on melee attack rolls or to AC while prone. Further, you can crawl and stand up from lying prone without provoking attacks of opportunity, and you can stand up as a swift action if you succeed at a DC 20 Acrobatics check.

I'm assuming I didn't drop my bow, or actually go prone for that matter since Orc Ferocity kept me from going unconscious. But to avoid retconning we'll say I pretended and fell on purpose.

Using last KI point to feather this b~$+* from prone.

Attack (Flurry, Ki point, PBS, PS on first +10 attack): 1d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 15 + 1 = 231d8 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 1 = 151d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 15 + 1 = 341d8 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 = 141d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 15 + 1 = 181d8 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 1 = 151d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 1 = 141d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 1 = 271d8 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 1 = 101d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 1 = 251d8 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 1 = 12
23 for 15, 34 for 14, 18 for 15, 27 for 10, 25 for 12.

Eugeni grunts, knowing this is his last chance to save his friends. Rolling acrobatically over on to his back, he whips his bow around. Somehow he manages to fire the weapon from prone by holding it with his feet. He launches five arrows into Lucretia's gut, calling on the last of his ki. "Not...dead....yet...." he grunts.

Jelani: Rules state as such..."Most ranged weapons can't be used while the attacker is prone, but you can use a crossbow or shuriken while prone at no penalty." So unless you have another ability that allows otherwise, you can't shoot from prone w/ Monkey Style, as that only removes penalties for melee.

As Setsuna flies forward, she finally sees the situation clearly. She starts yelling and pleading with Eugeni and Zoli. Even if she cannot be understood by the former, her voice certainly conveys her emotions.

"She's asking the injured to fall back" Presley translates, "since the hounds, the tigers, and the bird have this creature handled."

Elvis nods as he gets ready to unleash a lot of pain on Lucrecia.

"Really think you can win this tussle, snake lady?" the Hound says with a grin. "We just slaughtered all your ogres with little effort, and you ain't looking too good yourself."

Zoli's eyes go wide with shock as she's stabbed twice. She gasps...and feels the wet gurgle of air leaking out through the bloody holes in her chest.

She staggers there for a few moments. I can't take another blow like that, it'll kill me. She looks over her shoulder. I could just back away now like Setsu's saying...but could Eugeni? Could Mory? Will we lose another of us? Shaking her head, she says in a daze, "Chaldira, Fount of Luck That Never Runs Dry, Shield To Those Who Charge In, my life is in your hands."

Then--still in shock, but eyes more focused--she looks up into Lucretia's eyes and says, "Honey, you stabbed the wrong halfling."

Somewhere between tumbling and stumbling, Zoli's blade whips left and then cuts right, and slices straight between the lamia's ribs, into her heart. As Lucretia's smug smile turns to fear, the little swashbuckler twirls again--running on pure adrenaline--and her blade slices up and through Lucretia's throat.

Zoli sighs with relief as the lamia falls down dead. Swaying on her feet, Zoli smiles at Eugeni and then collapses on top of him (her eyes closing as her blood mixes with his). "We did it. We killed the b++&@. Did you see how lucky those last two strikes were?...Chaldira Zuzaristan is watching over us....She's watching us, I can feel it...." Zoli rubs the lucky sihedron medalion around her neck and then falls quiet.

Oh, he quite happily would, let me assure you. Assuming Zoli has felled Lucrecia, Morythine does the following.

Wow, my little friend is one tough cookie marvels Morythine as Zoli cuts down Lucrecia. Hopefully it won’t be too long until we can all stop and have a nap.

Crossbow in hand, Morythine staggers towards Setsuna, who’s once again babbling like a loon. He squints down the tunnel, trying to make out the ogres caught in black, coiled tentacles, dying in the darkness.

Thron can Morythine see the ogres. It’s out of range of his darkvision, but perhaps the light from the natural skylight is sufficient to let his low-light vision work.

She nuzzles Setsuna with a purr, then watches as healing spells are administered. She shifts back to her new form of a stormborn aasimar, and kneels at Zoli's side.

Eugeni collapses, panting. “Owwwwww.......” he groans, feebly clutching at Zoli. “We did it, Z. You da man!”

Setsuna was actually invisible, but I suppose Mory could have run toward her voice, and Rilee would have sniffed her location..

Setsuna breaks her invisibility and takes Eugeni and Zoli into a large embrace. The darkness in her eyes and black mist from her mouth vanish, and her cloak of shadows returns to its natural form. The Oracle takes a good couple of minutes to hold them close. In the meanwhile, their wounds begin to rapidly nit and heal.

The Hound Archons salute Setsuna as they fade away.

Once Setsuna breaks the hug, she counts the bodies.

"...One ogre ran away, and I don't see Lamatar or the three giant women. I don't think that ogre is coming back, so it looks like we're just dealing with Lamatar and maybe the three. Given his current state of undeath, we will need to... neutralize him permanently. The three giant women? If you all want to deal with them, then I think presenting them the heads of Barl and Lucy and Jaagarth's Ogre Hook should knock some sense into them."

Setsuna looks at the bodies of Barl and Lucrecia.

"...We should search them first. Lucrecia mentioned some guy named Mokmurian, and they were clearly manipulating the Kreegs for some greater plan involving the Seven Star."

Setsuna will search the fallen bodies and toss anything magical into the Bag of Holding.

When the group gets ready to move on to Lamatar, Setsuna says, "I advise against trying to fight this guy in melee combat. He's a Frost Wright, and the normal kind can consume your life force very quickly with a mere touch. I plan to throw Presley and some Lantern Archons at him. Rilee, if you have any thing on par with those tigers, then that would be great."

"There's an old sea shanty, The Lusty Ladies of Eleder. It's often sung before performances of Laughing Ettie. There are at least a dozen verses and they're all quite bawdy. Most of the wordplay isn't terribly clever but a few are quite funny. Anyway, there's one where these pirates get drunk and f&%k all night at a brothel, and in the morning their Pirate Queen says it's time to set sail 'cause there's a rich merchant ship coming in from Cheliax. I'm not sure how she's there to tell'm, but that's kind of part of the song's trope. It's actually one of the funnier verses, I wish I could remember it exactly...

"Speaking of which, it really is a shame, feeling this ragged from getting stabbed instead of from f&%king, eh?"

Looking over at the lamia's corpse, Zoli's lip turns a slight smile and she says, "I gotta say though, I'm pretty happy I got to give Lucretia what she had coming. And really, did you see how lucky those last two strikes of mine were! I swear, I could feel Chaldira Zuzaristan there, guiding my scimitar.

Rilee inspects Mory's current state and shrugs. "Sorry that I can't do anything more than suggest you get some rest. Hopefully it's not permanent. But I suspect it won't be."

Aside from the magic items on the bodies themselves, there is a fair amount of treasure heaped haphazardly behind the throne. The bulk of this stash consists of various weapons, art objects, gems, trade goods, and other treasures weighing just over 300 pounds in all. Mixed in with these mundane but valuable items, however, are several more magic items.

As you all search over the bodies, tossing the various valuables and magic items you find into the magical bags, a voice from behind calls out, "Greetings and well met!"

Startled by the surprise voice, you all wheel about, weapons likely in hand, to see three unimaginably beautiful women in flowing gowns approaching calmly up the ramp. The lead woman's hands are raised, though at her side, an undead abomination clad in heavily damaged and blood soaked Black Arrow finery stands, a bow in hand and arrow knocked but otherwise held relaxed in front of him.

"We come in peace, truly. However, given how efficiently you eliminated Barl and his associates, surely you can understand the need for caution?" the lead woman, a stunning blonde, asks as she gestures towards their undead companion.

Setsuna looks over at her tired teammates. Truth be told, they probably could fight four more enemies. However, these three women have also used some sort of magic to change their appearances. Even if Setsuna cannot see through the illusion, she is aware of spells that might make it happen. Ultimately, spellcasters are always a major threat, especially when their exact powers are unknown.

Given the group's current fatigue, maybe starting a fight right away is not the best thing to do.

"I understand. Have you come to negotiate? If so, then what are your... terms?" the Oracle asks simply, trying to sound at least open and professional.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26

"Indeed we have," the blonde woman replies. "We have long served the Kreeg, I will not lie to you. But since that one arrived," she points to the body of Barl, "and took over the clan, we have been unwilling agents in whatever plans he and his ilk have planned."

"Manners, sister," the brunette adds, casting a lustful gaze Morythine's way.

"Yes, yes. My name is Larastine, and this is Grelthaga," the blonde woman gestures to the brunette. She then points to the redhead, adding, "and this is Briselda. We are the Sisters of the Hook."

She then casts a scolding gaze back at her sister and retorts, "Satisfied?"

Grelthaga rolls her eyes, and then returns her gaze towards Morythine.

Larastine continues, "Anyway. We seek no trouble with you lot, and only ask that you leave us in peace, and never return. You can take the treasures you have earned, we lay no claim to it. We will even tend to the bodies of the fallen, as we intend to make this cave our own. All we ask is that you take your prizes and leave us be."

Setsuna thinks over the terms and then recalls something very important.

"On one condition," the Oracle says carefully. "I believe that... man is Commander Lamatar of the Black Arrows. His... beloved wants his remains back. Besides dealing with Lucrecia, part of the reason we came here was to retrieve Lamatar. Kill him again, and let us also leave with the corpse. If you do that, then we will leave you in peace and never return."

"Kill him?" Larastine asks with a touch of disgust at the suggestion. "Why? True, he was a gift to us from Barl, and we always felt him to be a spy to keep us loyal to him, but he obeys our every command. We could order him to serve you, instead, but we would want something else in return."

"Barl has a collection of gems on his person," Briselda adds, tugging on the shoulder of Larastine's gown to get her attention.

Larastine nods, "Yes, yes, that would be a good start on a trade. What else would you offer, along with the gems?"

Setsuna ponders the situation.

"...Very well, we can trade. It should be... reasonable, though. Hmm... You said that you longed served the Kreegs. From what I understand, even if Barl and the Snake ran the show, Jaagarth was still the recognized leader. What was your relationship with him like?"

Briselda scoffs, "Jaagrath wasn't no leader, at least of any real worth."

Larastine casts a reprimanding glare at Briselda before returning to the conversation, "Jaagrath was pappy for a time, but only in-so-much as Barl would allow it. Grolki was the real pappy, but that dim-witted buffoon swore loyalty to Barl without question when the stone giants walked in here. And what'd it get him? A hammer to the head, that's what. Since then, Barl had Jaagrath acting as the face of the clan."

"In his defense," Grelthaga adds, her eyes never leaving Morythine, "he was strong and bossy, and the eldest of Grolki's sons. So he was the legitimate heir to the throne. But, only if Barl wasn't around, and he was always around."

"Nevertheless," Larastine adds, "by the way you say 'was' I can only assume you've dispatched him as well, yes? I fail to see what it matters now, especially to this trade?"

"We ran into him, and Jaagrath died a warrior's death," Setsuna says as neutrally as she can. "...Unlike Barl here, who whimpered."

The Oracle tries to suppress a chuckle. She does find it ironic how the puppet king was fierce until the bitter end while his supposed superior wasn't.

"...Well, there is a lot of treasure here. Besides the gems, what would you like? I don't know you three ladies too well, so I'd rather not waste anyone's time with meaningless offers."

Larastine smiles at Setsuna's willingness to negotiate. "Indeed, there is. However, I have to admit, most of it is unknown to us. May we join you in looking it all over before we make a request?" she asks as they slowly begin to walk forward.

Setsuna cautiously nods.

"...Okay, but leave Lamatar where he is. I know what Wrights can do, so surely you can understand the need for caution?" the Oracle says with a bit of a grin.

Hopefully, the fact that the Varisian Rangers have killed Jaagarth Kreeg, Barl the Usurper, Lucrecia the Slippery Snake, and small army of ogres will keep the three women from doing anything... silly.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Larastine nods, adding with a smile, "Agreed. Besides, he is more dangerous with his bow anyway. Lamatar, dear, don't harm them unless they try and harm us, understand?"

Lamatar turns his gaze from the group of heroes for the first time, bowing his head towards the blonde woman and replying, "Yes, m'lady," his voice raspy and echoing as if being spoken from a far off plane.

Larastine and Briselda wait quietly as the heroes sift through and identify the treasures. Grelthaga, meanwhile, slips over next to Morythine and looks him up and down appreciatively, saying, "Hi there. My name is Grelthaga. What's yours?" she asks as she runs her delicate hand along his shoulder.

Grelthaga is a strikingly beautiful brunette, with soft, smooth skin and a hint of lilac hangs on the air around her.

As the group shuffles through the treasure, Setsuna watches the three women carefully for any particular items that they might want.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Also, recalling how helpful Lucrecia's letter to Xanesha was, she tries to read the message on the mammoth hide.

Once all the items are identified, Briselda and Larastine whisper among themselves in the language of giants, while Grelthaga continues to flirt with Morythine.

Larastine then turns and says, "In trade for Lamatar and his belongings, we will take the gems and spellbook of Barl, and all of the large weapons and armor these ogres have, including the enchanted ones."

Dibs on the arrows. Don't need the bow.

After thinking over the deal very carefully, Setsuna nods slowly.

"I think those terms are reasonable. No objections from me," says the Oracle.

She looks at the rest of the group and waits for their replies, though she cracks a grin at the sight of Eugeni drooling over the arrows.

Rilee studies each of the women closely but lets Setsuna do the talking. She can't detect any deception in their words, but doesn't immediately trust them, either.

Seeing the one flirt with Morythine stirs mixed emotions in the reincarnated druid. Their alluring forms were definitely nice to look at; her 23 years as a male were not so quickly forgotten. She wonders how she would respond to such attentions. Or to the attentions of a male, for that matter.

But given Setsuna's earlier description of the three giant women, Rilee had cause to believe there was something monstrous that lay beneath their pleasing forms. When they agreed to go through the treasure and split it up in exchange for Lamatar's corpse, she takes the opportunity to view them with detect magic. As they're passing magical objects back and forth, Rilee brushes up against the women, interacting with the magic she could see about them, but still can't see through their alluring visage.

And the male part of Rilee's mind isn't sorry for that.

When the final deal is proposed, Rilee folds her arms and breaks her silence. "You realize this bargain gives you the ability to equip your own army of ogres. And you also gain access to the spells of this stone giant, who is clearly able to raise the undead? I'm not in favor of you being capable of unleashing more troubles on this land."

When Setsu starts negotiating, Zoli nods along. I sure wouldn't mind not having to fight anymore today, if we could help it. These ladies seem a bit unusual, and maybe a bit too focused on their looks, but that's not a crime...

Then when Rilee speaks up, Zoli's eyes go wide, Oh wait a minute, that's where I've read about onyx gems before--in Belanora's 'Midnight On Carrion Hill'. If those were the very first things these ladies asked for...

"Hmmmm, I don't know about the gems. They're really pretty, and I think they'd make a nice necklace for me...but maybe you ladies can sweeten the deal. Before we come to any agreement, what can you tell us though Barl and Lucretia. Why was she here? What were they up to? Who else are they involved with?"

Rolled on roll20. I have no idea what they are, but I do know that the first thing they asked for is a component for animating the undead.

...Wait a second. There were zombies here, so someone here was a necromancer. Barl was the only guy with a spellbook. Pile of ogres corpses plus pile of armor and weapons plus several onyxes plus...

Setsuna feels her heart do a barrel roll.

Okay, new plan. Time to secure a "deal" for Lamatar, have him stand in some dark corner when we "leave them in peace" or whatever, and then sick some tigers and a hound archon on these three.

"...And where would they get this hypothetical army of ogres from?" Setsuna says as she turns to Rilee and gives her a look. With a sigh, she turns back to the blonde sister and says, "Ignore her. She took a bad hit to the head from Barl's Earthbreaker. I did the best I could, but I don't think I healed the brain damage properly. Always been a bit crazy really. Loves to ramble about wheels. Anyway, I think that is a good amendment to our deal. After all, telling us some information costs you ladies nothing."

Bluff: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36

Thankfully, Setsuna proves to have an amazing poker face.

When no one is looking, Setsuna quickly shoots Rilee a wink, a clear message that says "Thanks. Roll with me."

“Wow, Lamatar looks worse than I feel,” remarks Morythine at the emergence of the undead Black Arrow. The scrutiny of the beautiful women that lead the walking corpse leads the dhampir to doff his tricorn in confused gentility, but he recoils at Grelthaga’s touch. “Don’t touch what you can’t afford.” he suggests, struggling to believe that such gorgeous creatures would ever reside with the brutish and ugly Kreeg ogres.
