Aldous
Thanks - that is what I thought. So I will have to do a few more concentration checks. I think at least 3 more required. Just hope the next two are high enough, so I don't have to check out which order Kevin is.
Concentration 2: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
Concentration 3: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Concentration cast defensivly: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35
The Splattermans concentration gets disrupted when he sees the pages being ripped out. But he quickly regains his composture.
"So this is how you want to play. In this case I will take your spell books and soon I'm free anyhow'"
2 Maximised Magic Missiles on Wren and 2 on Aldous for 10 HP damage each.
He then steps back through the wall - unable to evade the axe wielder completly but at least he keeps him moving to prevent any full round actions from him.
I will try to summarize everything as I lost track partly myself. He should still have enough XP and I still know which spells he has cast.
Nym Vallidorn |
Pretty lost myself...Not sure if I missed a round, as I saw someone post actions for round three, and I think I've only acted on round one.
After scratching the ghostly figure for minimul damage Nym will cast shield and then try to move relatively near the Splatterman (Being that Mr. Splatter has the ability to fly through walls I'm expecting Nym won't wind up next to the ghost by his next action, but he's trying to stay in the thick of things).
After getting the shield up, on his next turn he'll be casting shocking grasp either as his whole action (if the Splatterman isn't in reach), or as part of a Spellcombat attack (if by chance Splatterman is in reach).
Thod |

I hope that brings us all back to where we should be. Sorry - was a bad time to get into this complex fight.
Wren the FeatherMage |
Thanks for the catch up, Thod. Wren was feeling bird-addled.
Hurting badly from the magic missles (standing on from Andrea's prescient healing), Wren will hand off the book to Aldous.
"Keep tearing Aldous, either I die or this ghost does. I now use my personal magics in this fight...no longer will I be contained by a weaker mage."
Since Wren readied to act as the Splatterman cast, Wren's initiative should be just ahead of his.
Wren will ready to cast Magic Missle when she hears the ghost casting again.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13 Spellcraft
2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 2 = 5 Magic Missle damage
"Show yourself, ghost! I am not done with you! This is my flock and you shall not harm them any longer!"
HP: 8/19
AC: 17 (+3 dex, +4 mage armor)
Effects: Mage Armor, Stupid Spellbook, -2 wisdom
Aldous Preklikin |
Nodding wordlessly, with painful slowness, Aldous selects another page (Mage Armor), and rips it out.
Page rip: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2.
However, doing so proves to be too much for his battered body to take, and he slumps to the ground, a single word spilling from his lips...
"Hastur...?"
...before he slides into unconsciousness.
I am okay with that ;-)
Nym Vallidorn |
If Nym can get the shocking grasp off and get an attack on Splatterman, that will be his round 3 action. If not, he'll move to Aldous and pick up the book (being that he's not in any way a healer, all he can do for his fallen friend is "check on him", so it shouldn't ruin any cool synthesist revealing you have planned).
Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 using Spellcombat to add in shocking grasp
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4+3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6) = 12electric
Thod |
Nym has problems reaching the ghost while Galadan hits the Ghost hard.
With a defiant look he stares at you:
"You can't defeat me. I will be back and I will hunt you one after the other. I can feel that my shackles here won't hold me much longer. And I will take one of you with me now!"
With these words he reaches out towards Kevin
Corrupting Touch 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage 6d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 1, 5, 4, 6) = 21
Kevin falls to the ground. But the ghost also can't hold himself together anymore and dissipates.
Wren the FeatherMage |
Wren looks around, still shaking in rage.
"Where is it? Where did it go!?"
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 Perception
"COME BACK HERE! QUIT BEING A CHICKEN!" Wren fumes for a frantic few moments, awaiting its return, words of power on her lips.
After a few moments, Wren slowly regains her composure and moves to check on her companions.
Thod |
Wren looks around, still shaking in rage.
"Where is it? Where did it go!?"
1d20+6 Perception
"COME BACK HERE! QUIT BEING A CHICKEN!" Wren fumes for a frantic few moments, awaiting its return, words of power on her lips.
After a few moments, Wren slowly regains her composure and moves to check on her companions.
Andrea Greenholt |
"NO!!!" Andrea screams as Kevins hits the floor like a boneless puppet. She dashes to his side and mentally whispers a fervent prayer to any of the gods who might be listening while casting the more powerful of her healing spells on him
Cure Moderate Wounds 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (4, 6) + 3 = 13
"I said nobody dies today..and I meant it"
Wren the FeatherMage |
"Careful friends. This thing is beaten but not defeated. I believe something still binds it to this place. Let's look around and see if we can discover what it is."
Take 20 Perception = 26.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19 Knowledge: Arcana
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 Knowledge: History
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26 Knowledge: Religion
Nym Vallidorn |
Once the more seriously injured are delt with, Nym approaches Andrea..."I could use some attention as well lass."
Afterward, sword still crackling with energy (far as I know I can keep the charge held indefinately...if I'm wrong, please tell me.), Nym will look around as well.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
He'll also return the torn up spell book to Wren if she wants it back. Otherwise he'll keep ahold of it, not wanting to set it down for any reapearing ghosts to stumble across...
Wren the FeatherMage |
Thod: excellent PFS post on the new generation. :)
"Look here...in this flooded hole. Anyone wish to go in for a dip?"
Wren does not relish the idea of getting her feathers wet, but considers it anyway.
Andrea Greenholt |
Andrea nods and casts her second Cure Moderate on Nym while Kevins head is still pillowed in her lap
2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 8) + 3 = 14
"We should speak to Versorianna" she says "She will know if that..creature, is truely gone and if he is then our job here is done.I for one will be glad to see the back off this place"
Aldous Preklikin |
I will, however, roll a bunch of stabilisation checks, so that you know what happens to him...
Round 1, post-combat (Andrea heals Kevin) - Stabilisation check: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 - 1 = 8 Vs DC 10.
Round 2, post-combat (Andrea heals Nym) - Stabilisation check: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 - 2 = 7 Vs DC 10.
Round 3, post combat - Stabilisation check: 1d20 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (15) + 2 - 3 = 14 Vs DC 10.
Well, that is a relief :-)
Andrea Greenholt |
Whoops hadn't noticed Aldous was down as well
Andrea uses her wand of CMW on Aldous
2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3) + 3 = 9
Then everyone gets a healing hex(Galadan and Wren have already had theirs)
Kevin 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Nym 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Aldous 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Andrea 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Thod |
The group looks around - tired and weakened - but also happy. Just a few weeks ago they met by chance due to the testament of Prof. Lorrimor. Now they had formed a bond of friendship through dangers overcome together.
There was still the flooded obliette as well as the task to set Vesorianna free to seal the prison once and forever from the evil influence. But an end was in sight.
Wren the FeatherMage |
Did Wren realize anything with the Know (Rel) = 26 check?
Wow, lots of options and we need to do them in some order.
1) The hole = "so anything hidden is likely to be found in the flooded hole in the middle of the room."
2) Talking to Vesorianna.
3) Spirit planchette.
I'd suggest the hole first, then the planchette based on what we find there, then talking to Vesorianna.
Wren hovers near the hole, hoping someone wants to take a dip.
Aldous Preklikin |
Aldous looks up at Andrea with slight confusion in his eyes.
"Is... is the Splatterman gone? I thought I heard Hastur... Something feels... different..."
When Wren mentions the bottom of the pit, Aldous nods, concentrates, and casts Detect Magic, which he uses to scan the bottom of the pit.
He then summons a small Earth Elemental, and orders it to retrieve 'anything which is not earth or stone' from the bottom of the pit.
Thod |
The Earth Elemental comes back with a sword, a mithril dagger and a ring. Aldous notes that all three items are magic and close inspection shows some initials which indicate all three items once belonged to Vesoriannas husband - the warden Hawkran.
The Earth Elementl then comes back a last time - carrying a long dead body. Closer inspection indicates this might have been the Splatterman.
Wren the FeatherMage |
"Nice work, Mr. Aldous," Wren says, pleased for the efforts of the earth elemental.
I wonder if he knows of any sea birds that could have done the same.
Wren bustles to the items brought back.
"Let me see those, dearie. I do love my magics...I feel so free right now." Wren pulls out a feather and begins to wave it in the direction of the items. Cast Detect Magic.
1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 2 = 23 Spellcraft (Dagger)
1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 2 = 17 Spellcraft (Sword)
1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 11 + 2 = 29 Spellcraft (Ring)
"One of these might be the exact thing we need to help put the Splatterman to rest forever."
Wren the FeatherMage |
Wren responds to Galadan with a questioning tone.
"Galadan, please be aware that the ghost could return as is their nature. Sometimes it takes days or weeks...but sometimes even hours. I believe that need to empower Vesorianna with her husband's badge of office to completely end the Splatterman. Don't you agree?"
Wren adds a nervous titter to her question.
Andrea Greenholt |
"I think that might be just the thing Wren..a mark of authority should be what is needed.and we must not forget to remove the remains of the unfortunate couple so that Father Grimburrow can give them proper interrment."
"However I fear that we may have to track down those who hold the wardens spirit in order to finiah this properly and who knows how long that will take or where it will lead us"
Thod |
The Mthril dagger is a +1 Mithril dagger.
The sword is a +1 keen longsword
The ring is a ring of protection +1
The late Professor asked you for two favours - taking care of his daughter for 30 days and then deliver some books to Lepidstadt - as well as to receive the money.
Nym Vallidorn |
"Andrea, I agree that we need to find those responcible for removing the warden's spirit, but we have some prior obligations as well. Once we get back to town we should discuss our future in depth."
Wren the FeatherMage |
Wren leads the group back to Vesorianna and presents all the items found to her.
"Lady Vesorianna, here, take which of these that you need...if any of them are what you seek."
Galadan Teresthin |
"My Lady Vesorianna. We have discovered the body of your husband. He was not killed as you suspect he might have been, I am sad to report. But in truth, there is release from the unknown, and I hope you will not think me unkind for revealing to you the true matter of his death. The warden was tortured to death by escaped inmates."
Galadan pauses to allow time to reflect on the matter.
"But I hope this knowledge will ease your suffering in the Boneyards. And I also have every hope that you will be reunited with the Warden's spirit at Pharasma's throne in due course."
Thod |
A tear flows down Vesorianna's cheek.
"It is sad to hear what happened to my husband. At the same tine it gives me strengths and resolve. You have earned my gratitude. I don't have anything to repay you but a thank-you.
Go on and fight the good fight. Maybe one day you bring to justice the once who abducted the should of my husband. Up to that time I will be waiting for him in Pharasma's Boneyard. As my work here is nearly done.
And tell Ravengro that the Five won't ever come back. I will take them with me."
With these words she reaches forward and takes the badge of office. A light starts glowing from the badge - slowly engulfing Vesorianna. For a moment you can see a beautiful and caring woman in front of you before the light gets to intense. You shield your eyes and she is gone by the time you can see clearly again.
Andrea Greenholt |
Andrea wipes a tear away and smiles softly as Versorianna speaks "Whatever it takes..however long it takes I promise you we will find them"
After the Ghost has departed the Mortal realm she turns to Kevin.."She loved him deeply..the least we can do is ensure he gets to her someday" then looking around at the others "Let us leave this place to the silence it deserves"
Galadan Teresthin |
Wren the FeatherMage |
"Goodbye Vesorianna. Thank you for your help," Wren says, a bit moved by her party's actions and the over ordeal.
Wren snuffles for a bit, wiping both tear and booger on her feathered arm.
After a few moments to regain her composure, Wren will begin to go back to town.
"I believe we are done here, yes? I feel like I could sleep for a week and I do not feel like I have slept week in nearly as long. Let us go talk to the Professor's daughter, report to Father Grimburrow, and tally our inventories. When we have finished our pact to stay in town, we must look ahead to the road to Lepidstadt."
Mr. Aldous, still have your treasure sheet? Want to take a hand at updating for goods we've gotten? I'd like to equip more before leaving town.
