I don't feel that at all. If you were running her, maybe. But run by a PC, it just feels like we are milking her awesomeness! :) Besides, we will get moments to shine. I crit a lot, Friar has max damage on his spells, and Bubba is the set-up man with his buffs and dispel magics! That saved us from a much longer fight against the undead sorcerer maggot.

The spells selected under the angel's entry are just so underpowered IMO. I've grown to see her as a teammate and given how well player selection went last time and lasted, I am okay with Exousia. GM, if you feel she's too powerful, you can recruit for someone. I just upped her to be on our level.

She can take off her armor; that will give her a hittable AC of 11 points less so you won't need 20s to hit her.
The Worm That Walks
Definitely a thought, let's see how thinks go in the short term and we'll see how it plays out. She is a one woman wrecking crew, that is for sure! She kind of out-classes you guys to some extent because her base build is so strong.
EDIT: I think all three of you could take her if she was buffed, but it seems like it would take ALL three of you :)

Hmmm, I have a question. Does freedom of Movement protect you from a paralytic poison for example? Since it is an internal thing it seems like it might not. For example Freedom of Movement doesn't stop the staggered condition that is caused from reaching 0 hitpoints. Also poisons that incapacitate you do to stat damage (or any effect for that matter) are not effected (though arguably it's an effect that impedes movement). Seems like the dividing line should be external sources versus internal ones. This has nothing to do with this particular encounter, just trying to figure out where the line is in the sand.

I don't know how persuasive this is but here is what James Jacobs wrote about this issue:
Paralysis is paralysis, no matter what effect causes it. Whether it's from a supernatural attack, a spell, a poison, or whatever... if it causes the condition of paralysis, freedom of movement will negate it.

Heh, true enough about Jacobs, he goes back and forth about stuff and then just defers to the guys who put together the CRB. I general he is a pretty good source though. Ok, so paralysis is taken care of no matter what, think I am good with that for now. What about various types of entanglement (like an encompassing net), difficult terrain of varying sorts (like say tightropes, ledges, or narrow walkways), or being pinned beneath rubble in a cave in?

My 2 cents:
Net - would fail to entangle as that impedes movement. It would not help against any of the terrains mentioned in your example. Appropriate Acrobatics/Climb skill checks would apply.
Yes, you could be pinned by rubble.

The problem about asking James Jacobs about rulings in the general game is people often ignore the context and he doesn't always think to specify it. Is he providing his opinion of the general rules - he is usually quick to say his is not the authoritative answer because of their division of responsibilities at Paizo - or is he providing the way he would rule it. He gets very tired, I know, of providing how he would do something in his game and then being held up as a counterexample to what other Paizo employees have said, just because he enjoys the interaction with fans and wants to help.
For a while, it was hard to get any answer from him at all related to game rules because he apparently got in trouble with management or other staff at Paizo due to fanboy over-reactions.
I generally find his opinions to have value for my games.

Ok, right now for purposes of overcoming Damage Reduction I have Valgrim using a +2 Holy Adamantine weapon and Exousia basically using a +1 weapon. In both cases the wormdrakes DR 15 would apply unless I am missing something. Which is why I am asking, to make sure I am not missing anything. Not showing Greater Magic Weapon on Valgrim's sword currently but I know he has had it in the past.

Really that is an open question to all, what are the protocols behind when you can spend hero points? My impression has been you spend them prior to making the roll up until now but that is of course an honor system anyway. For example, Friar spent one on his roll to save (luckily he didn't really need to make one) and he would have missed it even with the hero point expenditure. The DC is 33. I'm flexible, but lets redefine it now at the very least.
Valgrim Twin-Axe
Valgrim does not have GMW on.
I think to handle hero points you have to decide if you're trying to simulate RL game. In my RL game I tell players the DC of the save before they roll. In that case a player can decide if it is a hard save to make and use HPs or equivalent before rolling. If you want to keep DC secret then you have to allow players to see roll and then decide how many to use.
The Worm That Walks
That second method has been kind of what I have been assuming up until now. I am good still going forward that way or changing it so that it is fair. That second method allows you to kind of determine if it's even worth spending them so you don't waste too many. Of course, that only works the first time you don't know the DC, after that it is honor system anyway. I certainly do want your hero points to be very effective but would prefer not to make it just a numbers game (I like a lil suspense :). I am good with whatever though, even if you wanted to spend the after the roll, knowing the DC.

Baleful polymorph only affects one creature. Guess as a super genius lich, Thess developed a mass version, huh? Powerful spell.
Valgrim Twin-Axe
Valgrim is updated:
Ranger 16 (1d10 ⇒ 6)
+1 BA
+1 Fort and Reflex
+1 Con
+1 Perception
+5 Stealth
Improved Evasion
By the way, GM, I may have a friend on the boards who would be willing to join our game, if you're interested so we rely less on Exousia. Thinking arcane. Just let me know level and WBL so I can let him know.
Friar Ferez
I am game for a new player as well. I have no problem playing Exousia with her SRD spells and stats.
Friar is leveled up!
+1 Wis
+5 HPs
+1 Fort and Will
Bublaka
Sorry, all. Just when I thought I could afford to be back in the saddle, I realized that I had overlooked a fairly major project for my class and down the rabbit hole I had to go.
From the last couple of posts, I guess I need to level up?
I'm game for a new player.
Gerald
Hey guys, Lucendar mentioned this game to me and that you could use a fourth. I love arcane casters, but I have to admit I've never played at this high a level. If you are okay with me joining and I could have a day or two to get it together, I think I'd be ready.
Oh, and I've played with Pixie Rogue as well, so that's two of you I know! And one short game with the DM as well. Looks like almost all of you!
Bublaka
Gerald! I haven't 'seen' you in ages! Which game were we in, I've forgotten? Your avatar has changed, I think - I remember a suave, dark-haired fellow headshot rather than a Chinese dragon. There's a transformation, there - unless you were always a dragon and just wearing the skin of a human....
You just don't know a guy, I guess... :D
Welcome aboard! Bubluka would love to have a 'real' arcanist in the party.
Leveling up has not happened. I will try to get that done while Gerald is trying on his new character for size.
EDIT: Oh, yes, Shisumo's WoTR. What a sad day when he pulled away from running games. That wiped out half of my games in one short post. I totally respected his decision, but I had so many characters that I was excited about that were suddenly retired...

Okay, here is the group's new sorcerer, Alie Saechell. She is loosely based on a PFS character of mine.
Bublaka
OK, I've run out of time once again. Let's see what we can do to level in a hurry.
Hit points: 1d8 ⇒ 7 Oh, nice!
+1 to Intelligence
+1 BAB
+1 to Reflex and Will
+1 4th-level spell and 6th-level spell known
FCB: Extra known 5th-level spell
+1 6th-level spell/day
New 4th-level: Shadow Conjuration
New 5th-level: Mind Fog
New 6th-level: Greater Shout
Skills: Perception, Spellcraft, Knowledge (Arcana, Religion 3x, History, Dungeoneering)
New ability: Deadly Performance (Will DC 27 save or die after watching/hearing one round of performance; I have my doubts, but does this work on undead?)
Valgrim Twin-Axe
I would miss the angel, I've gotten used to her. Will also miss her True Seeing, at will abilities (like remove disease) and flight and melee capability. If she is absent, it leaves me as only melee threat. If we run into wormdrake, it may be harsh without her. However, I am okay with it, as the sorceress is quite a handful.
Friar Ferez
I understand if Exousia must go, though I will be sad. I will keep my word to build the temple after Dragotha has been vanquished. I can memorize summoning spells to help Valgrim with melee.
Valgrim Twin-Axe
Bub, in response to your questions, the wormdrake is definitely alive and may actually be from dragon family. Your death song is a mind affecting death effect and undead are immune to death effects.
Alie Saechell
|
I can try it, DM, but I'll give Valgrim a shot first, as this is mostly his baby!
As far as predatory spells go, here is Alie's suite. Using my lesser extend wand, on See Invisibility, which will last for 400 minutes, Twisted Innards, which will last for 40 minutes, and Shield, which will last for 40 minutes.
Each of the following spells will last for 20 hours: Mage Armor, Moment of Prescience, Overland Flight, and Darkvision. Finally, Fiery Body, which will last for 20 minutes.
Valgrim Twin-Axe
Okay, here is what I have:
10+Ability Modifier (12) + spell level (6)+Double spell focus (2)+Double greater spell focus (2)+Bloodline School power (2)= Fort DC 34 (35 when cast as a 7th or higher level spell)
Sorry, Alie, I think HeroLab doubles the school power, which is not a feat.
