Lilith, remembering the conjured ball of fire goes strait for what she hopes is a wand. She then helps search around and gather what can be salvaged. Are there any more of those dirt clods?
[dice=Spellcraft on Wand]1d20+11
[dice=Perception]1d20+7 Lilith fails to hear anything…
Later when she has time she examines the map. Or maybe she has time to take a quick look now. Not sure how long it takes for that task. Also note that Lilith speaks Goblin. Perhaps that helps
[dice=Linguistics]1d20+8
Had a 26 on spellcraft. Was I able to identify the wand and its number of charges? If we covered this already I missed it.

When I find my son Euron, I'll have my family back. He looks just like his mother, you know? he smiles wistfully. Oh he hates it when I say that of course. He screws his nose up just like she used to when I nearly burnt the house down or left the smell of hydrogen sulfide in the lab. And that only makes Ben look more like her of course. Haha!
He laughs hard at the memory but his laughter turns to sobs. Great, choking sobs that shake his shoulders. With a trembling hand he covers his eyes.

Lilith, this post covers the wand (which has 5 charges remaining), plus the goblin's map in case you missed it.
Smelly cellar door ahead of you, throng of zombies at the gate, no idea if Meiko is still alive, haven't seen Kaiya in 24 hours, an entire town's worth of burning buildings in between you and your current home... I know the forums have been down, let's consider this a kick start for the new week so we don't lose momentum :)
Euron Velren
Euron stands behind Azmerai, readying himself for what's behind the door.

Thanks! Can we add that map to the campaign info page? I recalled what the wand was but did not know the number of charges.

Feeling better. Lilith looks around the temple environs to find anything useful, but specifically looking for parchment and ink/components for ink.
Is lilith's fatigue lifted with the nights's rest. I know she is still down some Con. Also, is anyone still wounded at all?
Euron Velren
Seeing Azmerai wait Euron steps forward, nodding at the Half-Orc. He then begins to mutter a few words as he touches himself a shimmering shield reflexes around him, then as he takes up his weapon he stands next to the door and slowly opens it.
GM Fiendish
Lilith, map added to campaign tab as requested. And yup, once you use the scroll and the spell vanishes, you can re-use the parchment. Presuming you have the ink ;) Also, you are no longer fatigued!
OK Euron, noted
Polo, all good, most of the time I get to post maybe a couple of times a day but really busy at work right now so limited to once every 24 hours right at present!
You open the door further and recoil from the fetid and disgusting smell pouring forth. A short set of stairs leads downwards a short way til you're sure you are below the waterline. The walls are of packed earth reinforced with timber, but the floor is paved with stone. The occasional tricle of water runs down the wall.
The steps end in a small archway that opens out in to a cavernous room, with the darkness it is difficult to see how big exactly, but it *feels* big.
There is an eerie coldness down here, and tendrils of mist thread their way through the chamber. Pillars of carved stone thrust their way upwards towards a roof you cannot see, and placed around the floor are various large stone boxes, sarcophagi and giant urns, each with a stone tablet against it, with flowing script etched upon.
Each tablet lists a name, a date (all seem to be at least a few years old, some go back hundreds of years) and a saying/command translated as 'for now rest in peace'
Glancing back you can see the archway is outlined in glowing silver runes, and the floor has various glowing patterns on it as well. The patterns seem to lead further in to the chamber.
Everyone please make perception checks as part of your next posts :)

Have we fully explored the upstairs of the cathedral? Are there other buildings on the grounds inside the walls? Oh, and is Necril a language?
Linguistics, Necril: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Looking around Lilith warns The ruins you see, they radiate abjuration magic. I would not deviate from the path they make without good cause.
since we are walking on these ruins I take it that it is ok to touch them. Does the 21 spellcraft tell me more specifically what they are?
Polonius Fynch
Cool, thanks Fiendish. Just letting you know we were ready to move on
Upon seeing the scale of the underground chamber, Polo begins to shake his head in the dark.
No. This is far bigger than I expected and by the looks and smell of things, far more dangerous too. We should leave, now. We can lock the door again behind us. We've wasted too much time getting back too Meiko and Kaiya as it is. he says, edging back up the steps.
[ooc]EDIT: Forgot to roll perception. Perc: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Euron Velren
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Euron steps down looking about the massive room, as he see's the stone tablet he stops looking at each one. I can read these.. Necril "Maybe these are just some tomb stones." He then turns back to Polo. "Polo, we could find items down here that could help us there might then be a better way out. We should atleast have a better look around this entrance first."
GM Fiendish
Lilith, the cathedral has only one upstairs area, the bell tower, and Valex has indeed explored it. It was dark last night when you came in so you didn't see any other buildings on the grounds, however Valex's view from the tower confirms nothing else apart from tombstones and the occasional big tree. Yup necril is a language, your linguistics result gets you this "An ancient language of the dead, this whispering tongue is shared among undead and is also often associated with necromancy" but you can't translate it today :(
The more you look at the runes the more you see they are 'aimed' at the stone containers, and you feel safe walking on them, whatever they are meant to constrain they are not affecting you. Further scrutiny discerns bindings against the undead, however the wards are very complex and multi-layered, and appear to feed in to other sigils and markings. You'd need a substantial amount of time down here researching to get a fuller understanding of what they do.
It's pretty cold down here, colder than it would be normally at this depth.
Lilith Sylvari

And there could be a way out past the undead at the gate. We must at least look. With that statement Lilith conjure her dancing lights spell and sends it around to explore the extend of the room. The spell can move 100 ft in a round and is medium range (130 feet).
Lenneth Barlow
Lenneth gasps at the implied scale of the room and the rune tablets carefully placed throughout it. She shivers with the cold, feeling uneasy, but curious about the nature of the runes just the same.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
"She's right, abjuration magic for sure. Are these catacombs? If so, it would make sense for these wards to be here to prevent the dead from rising up into the church. But...this would have taken a lot of time to prepare! Maybe even multiple people..."
As Lenneth trails off, she suddenly looks around, worriedly. "Be careful what you touch! If these were to be disturbed, who knows what would happen? A quick once-over can't hurt, but Polonius is right, we need to hurry back to the others."
Perception: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 1 + 2 = 20

A quick look? Polo says incredulously. Who knows what the Red Harvest has done to those interred down here, and that stench is not natural.
Lillith, you know that Meiko was in a far worse condition than you. You must realise that every second counts now?
Meiko had a day at best. She's gone, I'm sure of it.
I don't think poking around in here is the smartest move.
GM Fiendish
Lilith's spell flashes in to existence, and just as swiftly flies off to explore the room.
right hand boundary limited by your vision plus the mist. The runes are nearly everywhere, but as far as you can tell you are safe to walk on them as well as the normal stone floor. The runes translate as variants of 'sleep eternal', 'bind and be bound' and 'unblinking eyes upon you'
You glance upwards, and there wedged between pillar and ceiling is this.
It doesn't look like it knows you've spotted it, but it could drop at any moment...
Euron Velren
Euron squints his eye's, sure that he saw something in the darkness. "We're not alone, something is down here in the darkness." Taking a step back Euron turns to Polonius. "There could be items of power down here you saw that chalice up stairs, while there might be undead down here we could find something to help us find them upstairs. Valex do you see anything?"
Lenneth Barlow
"Euron is right," Lenneth says quietly, but with a sudden tension in her voice. "But instead of being below us or behind us, it lurks above at this very moment..."
As she speaks, Lenneth draws her sling and slowly begins to ready it. Though she doesn't tilt her head and look up, her eyes repeatedly dart glances at one particular area of the ceiling above.

Responding to the gnome Lilith responds Polo, I was ready to try to get back last night. Do not now chide me now, while we are in this room, for casting a spell to look for a way past the undead above ground.
I really was hoping there might be a passage from this room to somewhere beyond the undead at the gate.
With Lenneth's warning Lilith takes a step back and quickly casts her Mage Armor. She does not look up.
Polonius Fynch
Do as you will. That's what you always seem to do regardless. If you hadn't run off on your own you wouldn't have been bitten in the first place. Last night we were exhausted, we couldn't have made it passed those zombies but now that we are refreshed we have a chance. Aside from myself of course, who was up all night trying to help you!
Come on, I can see it's pointless to argue so let's get this over with
GM Fiendish
Lenneth's subtle draw of your attention means you can all see the creature hanging from the roof.
And yes Lenneth, Homage points +1 ;p
As you brace yourselves and prepare for battle...
...nothing happens.
It continues to cling to the roof, occasionally turning its head from side to side...
Euron Velren
"Does anyone know what that thing is? It seems to be waiting for something and i don't really want to find out what maybe we should pull back to the stairs?" Euron then slowly begins to step back to the stairs be not moving all the wait if someone stays behind.
Can i make another check now that i've seen it??

Looking up...
"Ah, " Vaelx says flatly, eyes narrowing at the lurking creature. "That is..."
Fiendish, is there a spoiler for the K/Relig check that I missed?
GM Fiendish
Nope you didn't miss it Valex, no-one had rolled high enough till you and Lilith!
The creature is a dread ghast, quite an old one by the looks of it, likely to have been an orc when it was alive judging by its appearance. It would have paralysing claws and the putrid stench permeating the air down here is surely the result of this thing being loose. Very nasty...
You watch as the thing slowly stretches ragged muscles and filthy claws click across the ceiling, it turns its head to sniff and moves 10 feet further away from the door, before stopping and turning around, settling in position once more.
It could be your imagination, but you swear you just felt a slight breeze of fresh air move through the rank smell dominating this room...
Valex
"The creature is a Dread Ghast. Its claws can paralyze, and, close up, its stench can be debilitating," Valex says quietly, watching the creature move about. "It seems the wards hide us from it..."
Lilith Sylvari
|
I agree Valex. A Dread Ghast once likely an orc in life. If it were to get much closer to us its stench could overpower us. When Lilith thinks se feels the breeze she perks up.I would swear I felt moving air. Maybe there is another way out of her. She begins to move forward on the path, her lights moving to illuminate the distant walls, floor, and ceiling.
Euron Velren
"If you trust these runes lets go for it.. but let's make sure to keep an eye out." Euron then follows along making sure to keep an eye on each of the party not wanting them to fall behind.

Your ceiling-dwelling companion disappears off around the corner of a column and vanishes...
Moving closer in to the room, staying on the runes, you walk for a few minutes and pass dozens of stone sarcophagi, plinths and boxes, before feeling a definite breeze, and even see some pale sunlight slowly filter in to the room. Over to the left it looks like one of the walls of the room has burst, and a cascade of soil, sand and rock has avalanched in to part of the room.
Beyond it you can see by far the largest stone block, this one wrapped with black iron chains and adorned with different holy symbols, the runes around it are sizeable in number.
Yet still you feel unnerved, like someone or something is watching you...
Welcome to the century of the fruitbat...we now have Ditzie! Having wrestled with it for half an hour to get it to do what I wanted, I now realise gridlines would have been a good idea for the base image >.< next time!
Lilith Sylvari

Lilith will cast Detect Magic and study the scene for a moment. The large crypt at the end of the room is obviously different and she make that, along with the possible exit her foci.
Valex
Valex will take a minute to examine the large tomb as well.

Can we get out that way if we have to? Where would it lead?

As Lilith casts her spell, you are practically blinded by the bright auras emanating from the wards around the large stone tomb.
