Flynn whispers down to Valex;

Should we trust them?

Once negotiations have completed and the pair return to their camp, Flynn picks up the items of food and places them in amongst the gathered group.

Can anyone do anything to find out of this stuff is poisoned. Call me paranoid but I think it's a sensible precaution.

Valex has seemed rather moody and withdrawn since the strange Thassilonian ruin. He looks up at FLynn's question.

"Short of trying it, I can't think of any. There is a simple spell to detect such, but it's not in my repertoire. Lilith, do you have access to such? If not, I will volunteer to be our taster."

"Allow me to check..." Feldus murmurs under his breath as he casts his cantrip. Cast Detect Poison on the food.


Dolbey smiles at Lenneth

Well Edric was feeling a bit lost, between you and me I think he might have been looking for somewhere to settle. All the roaming, can get you down.

He glances down, away to the side, then back up as Lenneth mentions the cult.

The cult? Can't say as we have, we're quite out of the way here though so I'm rather glad we stayed out of their way.

He indicates the knapsack.

I won't barter with you more than we already have, your magic is as you promised and will be quite the boon to us. Please everything in there is yours, you can take the pack too if you like, call it my contribution for the tales you've told us that I'll have fresh to tell everyone else over the next few nights.

He stands up and stretches, as Red gets to his feet as well. Red salutes Whisper, as she glowers at him he breaks out in a lopsided grin and heads back to the cliff face. Dolbey bows to you all.

It has been a pleasure, I hope to wish you farewell tomorrow, have a safe night's rest

He heads off into the darkness himself.

As well as the cheese, black bread and wine already poured out, at the bottom of the pack there is some dried jerky of indeterminate age, and a large pouch of dates.

The food glows under Feldus' magic, it does not contain poison.

Melo looks around, then pulling himself up he strides over to the pack. He sniffs at it then shakes his head purifying the food inside. "It's never bad to make sure, there's something about those guys.."

We don't know how much they have, or how much they want to trade. So let's ration it.

Flynn finishes unsaddling Skyfall and brushing her down for the night before approaching Lenneth.

Hey Lenn, how are you doing? Are you and Aura getting along?

Also, did we lose the bracelets in the temple? If so, that sucks :(


Lenneth's bracelet was destroyed in the temple, and ever since Flynn's half of the pair as been unresponsive...

The wine, whilst no vintage of distinction, isn't terrible. Whisper shares the liquid with Lilith, she stares in to the distance as if she's seen a ghost and keeps staring after the path the two men left by.

Forgot to say! If rationed carefully, the food in the pack will last your group a week or so.

Are you taking any precautions overnight? At the top of the cliff, two guards sit on slightly raised mounds and watch over the area, they are relieved every couple of hours

Unable to help herself, Lenneth offers a tentative wave as Dolbey and Red take their leave. Once they're well out of earshot, she nods at the others. "I can't swear to this about anyone else they have living here, but I'm certain those two meant what they had to say and aren't trying to hide anything from us," she says quietly. "But I'm glad you decided to check the food anyway."

"Standard watches for tonight sound pretty good to me," she continues, now at her normal volume. "I don't think they'd expect us to do any different and I wouldn't blame them if they decided to have extra folks on watch tonight while we're out here," she adds as she reaches for the wine bottle and takes a small sip.

When Flynn approaches after their evening meal, Lenneth sighs and looks down. "I'm okay, I guess? I don't really know. I mean, I should be pretty happy, all things considered. We've got a decent place to shelter for the night and some rations that we didn't have an hour or two ago. And we're all alive and more or less healthy. I mean, what's to complain about, right?" she says with a weak laugh.

The young woman sits down and pulls her knees up close to her chest, wrapping her arms around them. "But I don't know what to do for Aura. I think she's more lost than any of us but beyond trying to be there to listen and to protect her, I don't know what to do. And the more time that passes, the more I feel like she's slipping away from all of us." She looks over at Flynn. "How do you be an anchor to someone that's grown up practically overnight in a world like this, full of death and things that don't make any sense?"

I don't know how to even start answering that question. the halfling admits wearily. But I do know she's safer with you than with anyone else. And I think she probably knows that too. Whatever she is, magical or not, you're still her mother and that's a bond that can't be broken.

He gives the witches' hand a squeeze.

Listen, we're better off now than we have been in weeks. Let's just hope they are true to their word. he adds reassuringly before bidding her goodnight.

I'll take first watch.Flynn says to Lillith as she brings up the subject. I haven't taken my armour off yet anyway and my eyesight is better at dusk than full dark.

He turns to the quiet, distant halfling among their group then.

Hey Whisper, want to take this first watch with me? he asks with a bit of a shrug.


Aura is sat cross-legged on the ground, with Indigo opposite, they appear to be having a staring contest. It has been going on for some time.

Whisper shivers as if someone has walked over her grave, and looks up at Flynn as he asks about watches. She meets his gaze and nods once.

Flynn, after everyone has settled down for the night and the 1st watch is on...:
Whisper approaches you very... deliberately, putting her hands on your chest, pressing her body to yours and looking fearlessly in to your eyes. It's very clear what she wants, but she's waiting for your response...

1st watch:

Flynn embraces Whisper fiercely, planting a kiss firmly on her lips.

He can feel the warmth of her next to him, the closeness, and for a second he feels like he is going to burst into tears because he didn't realise how much he needed it until it happened.

He pulls away after a moment though, his forehead resting on hers, the smell of her hair intoxicating him, and says;

We can't. At least not on our watch, while that lot are out there. Let's be sure we're safe. he says but he doesn't relinquish his hold on her. If they aren't true to their word we have to be ready for them. he says, his hand drifting down to the handle of her slender dagger, assuming she knows what he means.

If she isn't put off by this...

Flynn returns to his post at the edge of the camp, looking out over the fields toward the cliff and the village, but he does so with Whisper in his arms resting against him, his lance planted in the ground like a spear. Once their watch is done, he takes her by the hand and leads her back to his tent, set up at the edge of the circle of firelight.

"Thanks Flynn," Lenneth smiles, giving his hand a squeeze in return as he bids her goodnight. "You're right...this may be about as well-off as we've ever been! Might as well be thankful for it and enjoy it while we can, right?"

As the group prepares to bed down for the night and the matter of a watch order is discussed, Lenneth thinks for a moment and makes a choice although she'd love nothing more than to actually have a full night's sleep for a change. "I can take last watch with you Feldus; my eyes won't be much good until close to dawn anyway. Indigo can help you keep watch, Valex," she yawns as she settles down near Aura.

Melo nods as Lilith, inclues to take watch with him. "Thank you."

2nd watch/Lilith:

As Melo and Lilith take up the watch he sits on his haunches, turning to look over at his watch partner. "We haven't really had a lot of time to talk alone that is. I respect you Lilith I respect your leadership, the world has changed I was so ready to just following but.. With Cyn and everything we've been through I've figured we need more leaders, everyone in the group needs to stand up if we're all going to survive." He sniffs at the air scanning the area from their hill advantage. "We've got a long road ahead of us, you're all my family now I don't want to lose anyone else."


Flynn:
She stares at you as you answer, then looks away abruptly, nodding. Rather than stand with you, she spends the hours as she has any other watch before, patrolling and checking back with you that all is well, before moving out again.

At the end of the two hours as you rouse another two for their turns, she looks at your hand as you offer it. Her hand twitches but stays by her side, but then she shuts her eyes and reaches out to you, letting you lead her to your tent.

Different to how she was a couple of hours back, she seems more in control again now. She takes the lead and pulls your clothing off, removing her own herself. Pushing you down on to your bedroll and moving atop you, she remains unsubmissive, and all the while avoids meeting your gaze.

After, she holds a finger to your lips to forestall any need to speak, and you drift off to sleep together, she curls in to you, wrapping your arms around her like a blanket.

When you wake in the morning, she has gone.

The night is uneventful for most. The settlement's watchmen also change shifts, but do not venture over to your area. Dawn breaks with the clouds lit up in an astonishing cascade of reddish and orange hues, an ever changing vista that lasts for almost an hour before the sun is fully in the sky and beaming down upon you.

Dolbey has said he will come out and see you before you go, and to watch Melo as he casts his magic once more on the crops.

Aura and Whisper begin packing up the camp in preparation for moving off.

You have most of a morning before you're due to leave, are you doing anything else before Dolbey appears?

As the sun breaks Feldus watches it with a degree of fascination. Being from the sewers a glorious sunrise like this one is a rare sight for him. With Lenneth close by he does not feel the need for speech, but his thoughts soon turn to the future.

To see such a sight...a treat I will treasure forever. I wish Laurina could have seen this. I miss her...will I ever find any of my kind or when my death comes then my race dies with me?

As the rest of the party stirs he gathers the items agreed upon for trade and watches for the appearance of Dolby. I believe was a dagger, several sapphires, the black lotus extract, and also that box of potions.

As the sun begins to peek over the horizon, Lenneth sits in somewhat-companionable silence with Feldus and watches it rise as well.

A moment of light in a dark world. One of the few things that hasn't been taken away from us. I wonder why it's taken me so long to see it that way?

Once the rest of the party is awakened, Lenneth sits with Indigo and goes through her morning meditations. Although her spirit is lifted by the beautiful sunrise, she can't help but feel a twinge of regret as she muses over which magics to prepare for the day.

Melo's magics and Euron's before him are...were...useful. All I'm good for is a fight, most of the time...

But just the same she does the best she can with what she has, conjuring up her protective magicks as always.

Flynn wakes and Lets his hand snake out across the bedroll. Instead of feeling Whisper's skin he just feels a cold patch beside him.

He nods to himself and rubs the sleep out of his eyes.

It was what it was.

Dressing quickly and strapping on his armour, Flynn ignores the aches in his body and steps out of the tent into the rising sun. Skyfall is awake already of course, slowly circling half a mile away or more, looking for breakfast.

Flynn joins Whisper and Aura in packing up the camp and though he catches the halfling's eye, he offers a small smile but otherwise acts no different than he had over the past weeks

Valex packs up his possessions, then, for the first time since the Thassalonian tomb, cleans himself and his clothes rather fastidiously with [i]prestidigitation[/]. He spends an obsessive half an hour with a stone and his dagger, giving it the best edge that he can, and manages a rather decent shave.

The Magnimaran seems a little more himself as he waits for Dolbey.


Whisper offers a tight smile to Flynn in response to his greeting, she seems too distracted to offer anything else.

Dolbey arrives around noon, with Red walking in his shadow.

He smiles and doffs his hat

Well now, greetings this fine day, I believe we were to offer some more parchment and exotic inks for the fair lady wizard.

He drops a small satchel to the floor, and glancing theatrically back at Red he adds in a stage whisper

...some of them might already have some chicken scratches on them for all I know, but I understand you can re-use these things...

he glances back at Red and grins, Red raises an eyebrow, his own smirk never leaving his face.

Dolbey clears his throat

So is there anything else you were after before I relieve you of your extraneous and unwanted bric a brac?

Melo goes about his normal morning routines, strolling off just within sight of the others and communes with nature asking for guidance and for his path ahead to be shown.

Once finished he moves back he conjures some water for everyone and eats his breakfast. Shifting back into his lion form and potting about before the two men arrive again.

He looks around at the group. "I don't believe so, rations where our main reason for trading with you. We all think for what you could spare."

Lilith looks over the new supplies, casting Detect Magic first, then counting the parchment pages before looking more closely at what might be written on each. The pleasure is mine fair lady, these aged parchments would turn to dust unused in our stores, they are far more use in your lovely hands.

Dolbey has provided you with 4 spell scrolls tucked between 2 normal sheets of parchment, and ink enough for 20 spell levels total. You suspect he might be romantically inclined but has deferred any potential advance due to your mention of a loved one (which he took your description of Hawk to be). The spell scrolls are; Dragon's Breath, animal aspect (greater), undead anatomy I, and Web Bolt

Dolbey strokes his chin for a moment as Flynn asks after a map

Well as it happens, we might be able to help there if you're in an agreeable mood? We don't have any physically recorded cartography of the area, but we could be persuaded to send a guide with you, people here get itchy feet so it's not unusual to want to go roaming for a few days, and of course there's safety in numbers.

He glances around

So they could accompany you to the first landmark and point you in the right direction from there, how does that sound? If you'd prefer to travel on your own then no harm done or offence taken!

Lilith smiles at Dolbey but only in a friendly manner. Hmm. Well mannered and handsome enough, and his interest in me is plain, but we depart too soon and to show any interest could cause hurt. There is enough hurt in this world. Looking to the others Lilith speaks her mind I think a guild would be most welcome. Again your group shows your generosity.

I'm always greatful for a second pair of eyes. Or third even. Flynn agrees. He looks at the group then, chews his lip, looks again to Whisper in particular and says. Listen, Dolbey. Most of us have been on the move since this entire thing started. Our business is in the desert no doubt, but if we make it back.... if... well it would be really nice to have somewhere to make it back to. Do you think you might have a word with some of your people, let them know we aren't bad folks?

Well I'll be frank, we've taken in the odd stray before but never such a group as yours, but I for one would welcome your help. Give me some time to talk to the others and I'd hope they would see the wisdom of welcoming you in and letting you call the place home too

He smiles, entirely genuine. He looks over at Red, who simply shrugs.

Dolbey returns with a rake-thin man at his heels, homespun clothes hanging from his gaunt frame. He nods at you as he sweeps his long, braided hair back over his shoulders, resting a polearm with a curved metal blade against his chest.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present 'Wolf', our intrepid, nay fearless scout of the desert sands... able to survive for a week on a single drop of water, who can navigate blindfolded by smelling the stars, who wrestles giant sand bears for fun...

Wolf sighs and looks at you all, then back to Dolbey

I've told you before Dol, there's no such thing as sand bears, the sand sharks ate them all...

Dolbey's mouth opens in mock horror, before he doffs his hat to Wolf.

Lilith explains While I have not traveled in the desert myself I have read multiple accounts of such trips. She takes off and reverses her green cloak to expose the grey/while interior of her reversible cloak. We are fortunate to have a portable source of water with us, at least for as long as magic functions. She indicates Melo. And I will prepare a spell to make our camping more comfortable each night. This will keep us both warm or cool, as needed, and serve as a protection from the wind and blowing sand.
