Bjoern looks at the wares and selects a few airy items. For the first time not with furs to keep out the cold, but gauzy items to ward of the heat.
He then checks the scarfs for something colourful, beautiful, gauzi.
He the checks what other items are for sale.
He would check for some alcohol, tea, spices, a medallion, and maybe a decent bow with arrows.

Tairin noted the Zadjite's attempt at flirtation and she merely smiled again before turning away and walking before Samir and Ala'lhys back to the others.

Samir wrote:

"Do you truly wish them to live, sayida - or was that merely a ruse?" he asks quietly.

In voice much lowered and speaking in Sushranite, grateful for the veil across her mouth for added discretion she responded to Samir when they were a good distance away from the Zadjites; having no issue if Ala'lhys is also privy to her private words.

"There are too many of them and we are fatigued from the four day journey to this place. Let us be judicious in who we engage openly. We must get to Zul-Bazzir and the sooner the better. Still the blood beating in your veins. If he attempts something on my person, then we have legitimate grievance to attack. I prefer quieter ways of killing, Samir." She smiled and her dark eyes sparkled with some secret.

Making her way to their own camp, Tairin sat down and Bjoern joined her soon after.

Bjoern Ghostbear wrote:
Gathering the waterskin he sits down next to Tairin and holds it to her. "Mistress. You do know more about this world. How far till we reach the next city. I crave a roof over my head and, please do not laugh, a bath!"

Tairin took Bear's proffered skin, pushed her veil aside and drank the water before handing the container back to him.

Then quietly, she responded to her bodyguard, "I would never laugh at a bath, dear Bear. I wish one myself. We will have to make do with wiping our bodies down with water and cloth here. As to Zul-Bazzir or some city before it, I admit to not being versed in such geography. Hmm...", Tairin tapped her finger against her lips; thinking.

speaking with Samir
"I don't like Zadjite folk," well, that much is obvious, "As for it being over? That remains to be seen..." obvious also, but that wolfish smile says more than all his words combined. "let them sot themselves …easier to slay this night...." true, though coldblooded murder is harder than fighting when the blood is boiling, “ but Samir may be up to the task, he clearly hates this race of men. Ah “something more," As Samir speak, Ala’Ihys listens, sometimes nodding, sometimes gesturing with his hands. As the Nabastissean finishes speaking Ala’Ihys chimes in. ”True, something other than trail food would be a pleasure, I miss the city, even the small comforts. But we will be in Zul-Bazzir, soon enough, and though not home, we should be safe to enjoy it’s fruits.”

After a moment, while the others start to bargain with some of the merchants, He nods toward Tairin, ”When we were leaving you made sure that the Zadjites knew that Tairin was charge and you were but a humble servant. Then you spoke to her privately, Is that a conversation, you wish to share? Or should I just sleep with one eye open ready for anything?”

when I saw Tairin’s response to your question I was going to comment. Then I noticed that it was originally under a spoiler, so I thought I would ask about it instead.

These merchants are sellers of clothes and fabrics. They can provide you with a set of Warm Weather clothes at 10% cheaper than book price; they have rugs for sale, elaborate and very detailed; they also have bolts of dyed wool (red, indigo and brown); bolts of dyed linen (red, indigo and plain white) as well as several large linen shirts; wool tunics; and several linen scarves. Sadly, they have no tea - though they do have an Arabic coffee which is very potent they will share with you (they can sell you 1 lbs - it will produce enough for 8 cups). The only spices they have include dried hot peppers, black pepper, salt and cumin - most of those are their own food stuffs and not really for bulk sale, but if you're willing they'll sell. Give me a full list of items and I'll give you the full total in coin - which may be modified if you have any goods to trade...

They will possibly sell some waterskins if you'd like - however, they have little in the goods you request; one of them does, however, have a MW metalworking kit he had found recently; it is of unusual make - you'd wager it is from Azimba.

EDIT: you lose the diplomacy check and so it goes up by +12% in cost. The waterskins they will include in the deal for free, however.

Bjoern will chose a set of warm weather clothes, a medium rug for his tent, so more a simple one, three linen scarfs, as beautiful and colourful as possible and a pound of coffee.
Also a bit of the spices, to flavor this evenings food.

Red is unsure of what do do about the incident between Samir and the Zadjites. In the immediate aftermath, she keeps to herself, preparing for the night and remaining alert.

Seeing Samir leave Tairin after their discussion, Red makes her way to Tairin and asks "Do you know what that was all about? And can we be sure it is over? Samir is a fine man and a friend, but that was beyond reckless. He nearly started a battle with a group larger than ours, of unknown power."

To Ala:

As the night goes on you realize that - for the most part - all of you are comfortably sleeping. However, it is during this time in which Samir rouses you quietly and beckons you outside into the night.

Following him some ways apart from the camp he speaks softly to you.

"From what I can tell there are two tents which house the bulk of the guards; four of them are on patrol - two other tents hold the Zadjites themselves while north of them is the wagon that houses the slaves."

"Now.... shall we begin?" he asks with a low, quiet voice; a dark smile on his lips.

Samir:
Waking quickly, Ala'Ihys leaves his bedroll and pack on the ground, but gathers his bow and quiver, following his friend into the desert.

Noting the placement of the four guards, he watches them for a moment to see how attentive they are to their tasks, then asks, "Can we take out all four of the guards, or are we just going to sneak into the tents and slay the Zadjites themselves?" nodding back toward the camp. "Do we want to wake the others to help us? or shall we not burden them with difficult work? Though Caslav's dagger and Bjoern's sword, may prove useful."

I hope perception and sense motive will help to see how attentive the guards are to their surroundings.

perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
sense motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11well those both suck.

Samir hefts something from his pack - you instantly recognize it as the vials that were taken from the caravan that Farrokh had been discovered at.

"We need not be overly accurate with our attacks..." he says slowly with a nod to the poison "this should suffice."

"As for the others? In this matter the sayida was clear; in our assault her hands must remain clean should we incur a mischance and thus she should not be comingled with this attempt; at least, not in the initial fray..."

"Yet the northman who travels with her would be a likely asset - as would the Lamuren boy.... I am uncertain on the witch - but if she or my sayida elected to use any sorcery I am confident that it would inspire action beyond the mere intent of the spell..." he mutters, clearly alluding to the nomad camp Not Pictured who would fear the presence of magic in any capacity because of their barbaric superstition.

"Only the Yar-Ammonite surgeon and his Jaranien mercenary are them who I cannot yet judge - while I deem that our charge in the form of Yetara and his girl and their sell-sword will likely be eager to condemn or praise us - depending on how we fare."

"As for our stratagem? For myself I have no qualms with shooting the guards with arrows dipped in this poison," he says, motioning to the jars "when they fall we shall be at a better advantage - only our arrows must not miss their mark..."

He ponders a moment.

"Or we may elect a tactic which we two have known to work well in the past; that is, steal north to the wagon where the slaves are held and free them - they could be useful in this entanglement," he adds, his eyes glinting with a sardonic amusement.

There are also some other possibilities I may not have thought of; though Samir is directing the action, it's completely up to you to plan your strategy and figure out how you'd like to proceed.

Let me know your preference and we can go from there.

The only thing that Perception/Sense Motive check revealed is that Samir was clearly disappointed that you didn't respond with a more pithy quote ;)

’I have known Samir for a long time, he must have a very good reason to hate these men as he does. Also they have insulted Tairin, If anyone had spoken to Mei Mei like that I would have killed them outright.’ Nodding his head as Samir draws out the poison. Ala’Ihys draws out five arrows, handing them to Samir”First we will dispatch the guards with arrows, then we will kill the Zadjites in the tents.” He nods toward the guard just north of the fire. D11 ”I will kill the one near the fire first, if the one just this side of the fire sees him fall you kill him. If not I will shoot him second.” He points at the nearest one H8 with his bow. ”Then I will shoot the guard this side of the tents, following with the one back behind. "If by that time all hell hasn't broke loose, we will sneak in the tents and slit the Zadjites throats then decide what to do with the slaves and other guards.”

After Samir puts the poison on the arrows, Ala’Ihys, takes careful aim at the guard nearest the fire and releases the poison arrow, quickly nocking the second one.

Samir nods his head; pointing his finger at the enemies on the far right and then splits off from Ala.

Via Initiative; technically you have the "Surprise Round" this action as you're attacking from a Stealth Position. This will change after the action - Samir will keep your bonus and the bad guys will roll Ini after your Surprise Round is over.

This is because you have a limited time to act; if the guards see one of his allies fall he'll likely investigate. So your action this round was to shoot - which, by the way, drops the guy on D:11. However, this attack drops the guy who was standing at fire that was 25 feet away from the guy at H:8; who Samir will now shoot at with his shortbow.

1d20 + 3 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 6 + 1 = 11

If it hits -
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

EDIT: As a piece of horrible luck Samir got a Natural 1 - this means he fails to hit his target. This means the enemy now gets the chance to notice you hitting his now fallen friend...

Perception Check
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

EDIT: as his companion is only 25 Feet away he grips his weapon and calls out...

"Ebrahim...?" he calls out, a confused tone in his voice, and he grips his spear to advance to see what happens to his ally who he notes has fallen.

Enemy's Initiative Check
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Okay - you roll Initiative for the party; if you're successful you can shoot the guy before he acts, though he will likely get a Free Action... If you don't beat the Initiative he'll get his turn first... Good luck!

At this time he must make a Perception Roll to attempt to see you as you're hidden in the trees in the dark at night.

Perception Roll -
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

EDIT: At this point the enemy cannot see you so elects to go to Full Defense; however, the other to guards come running to him. Both shots sail between the startled guards, yet to no effect.

Seeing the damage done, Samir passes you his last poisoned arrow and whispers low...

"May the gods grant your next assault greater fortune."

Glancing at the men by the firelight he adds -

"They do not yet know our number; I shall move to another spot - when they come toward you I can support you with knife work..."

With that, he slides away in the dark so he can attempt to come at them from another angle...

You now have a final arrow that is poisoned to use on these men.

The enemy guard who dodged the arrows bellows out loudly before calling to his comrades.

Azimbian:

"Gods curse you, you dogs! Rouse yourself - we are under attack!"

[b]"Spread out and advance so we may deal with this wretch; do not let him escape...

He then readies his spear and he and the others advance.

At this time there does not seem to be any sign from the other tents for some reason, though that could be because you are not able to see what is happening so far in the dark at this time...

Note: the guard's voice was loud enough that - theoretically - everyone in the camp should have heard him and awoken, including the other PC's at this time. They're free to act at this time.

NOTE: Samir is moving at normal speed as he is moving with Stealth - the guards are hindered by the tree cover before them which is preventing them from seeing you clearly - hence their decision to move only 30 Feet, though they are gripping their spears at the ready.

You can see at least two spearmen are peering at the trees - as of now, they don't seem to be paying attention to you and the other PC's and even if they noticed you, you'd suspect they would not deem you as a threat; this could be used to your advantage...

I will think about it. I believe I have to let others take their actions for the moment.

yes, yes you did, please come rescue us. I tried to support Samir in his desire to kill the people who got lippy with Tairin and it isn't going so well. We have shot two of the four guards, but they called for help. That is what woke you.

DainGM do you care if the other players read the spoilers so they have a context?

They can read the spoilers; but if they're not already reading the OOC comments I have posted that will be a problem.

Meanwhile, I am going to wait until I get home from my second job tonight. At that point they should have all acted; otherwise I will post for them.

Looking up Bjoern quickly rolls to hit feet and looks left and right for the noise!

Patenemheb's eyelids flick open and he begins to rouse himself - and the others.

"Farrokh, Caslav, there is trouble. Seize arms and we shall exit as a group. If our fortune is truly vile, this could be another beast of undeath. Hopefully, this will be a foe whom can be frightened or bled."

He seizes his staff and moves to the tent flap to look out from some concealment while the others ready themselves.

Perception to see and hear what is going on from the flap: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Bjoern Ghostbear wrote:

It is not hard to make the location of the noise - it comes from the cluster of tents housing the Zadjites and their Azimban mercenaries - barely 160 Feet away.[/ooc]

You cannot make out what they are saying, but you can see in the dim firelight to the east several spear men are beating the brush near their camp.

Patenemheb Sitayet wrote:

Farrokh and Cas immediately begin grabbing their gear and rapidly packing it for a safe and hasty retreat.

Outside you hear the sound of Azimba voices calling out about someone shooting at them.

Meanwhile, Samir seems to be either unimpressed with attempts at Stealth, else he is hoping to lure the Azimbans away from Ala.

Using a Full Move Action to double move - while he does, he calls out as a free action -

Zadjite:

"Enjoy my arrows, dogs!"

Whatever his plans may be his actions have clearly prompted the interest of the remaining spear men and it is likely they will assume that Samir is himself the bowman - yet only time shall tell...

Botting Tairin

Tairin swings to her feat with a pantherish grace which is unaffected by her recently disturbed repose.

Sliding smoothly past Bjeorn she clutches her arms and then dashes into the night toward the fray - confident that she knows what is occurring, but determined to make sure however the whims of fortune may unfold she is able to steer a potential calamity toward safer shores...

Double Move to -18:Q.

Enemy Turn

The guards moving toward Ala seem confused and they pause in their charge and now change course moving after where they think Samir may have headed. At this time they do not seem to know, so they are moving at normal speed and attempting to be as cautious as possible so as not to be ambushed by Samir.

Guard 1 Perception Check
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Guard 2 Perception Check
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

EDIT: Guard 1 can not only easily see Samir in near darkness, but he has a sense Samir is not alone - though - for now, he has no specific reason to look for Ala; but he will be considered Flat Footed against him.

Guard 2, however, is completely disoriented; clearly doing his best to avoid brambles and the brush and has no idea where anyone is.

Meanwhile, the guards at the other tents are now coming out - but for some reason they are moving slowly and without the intensity that might be expected when being raided in the night...

Your Move...

Red looks around nervously, then moves forward to behind a tree. With the tree between her and the Zadjites she casts Mage Armour on herself, announced with the words "Cailleach Sciath."

Bjeorn - can you move your character on the map to reflect your position? If you aren't able to log on to the combat map, please let me know so I can move him for you as your position will likely become very important very quickly.

Thanks!

"We are going forward to investigate.", Patenemheb says firmly, "There is not the chaos and horror that I would expect from another great ghul."

With that, he strolls towards the commotion, staff in hand, noticing Bjeorn, Red, and Tairin moving out.

In Yar-Ammonite, he asks in the direction of the women:

"What has occurred this night?"

Looks good!

Ala - you're up; then it wraps to the NPC's and then new round. At this time your allies likely do not notice you yet, however, clearly the enemies don't. Good luck!

'It looks like Samir is trying to draw them off, I dare not call out to your companions, I would give away my location. Hopefully none of them decide I am the enemy.' Very slowly Ala'Ihys takes a step forward, closer to the palm tree he had been hiding behind. Seeing the nearest warrior focussing on the direction Samir had headed, the archer whispers a prayer to the moon and quickly fires two arrows at the searcher.

Seeing the nearest warrior focussing on the direction Samir had headed, the archer whispers a prayer to the moon and quickly fires two arrows at the searcher.

The first arrow thunks solidly into the distracted guards chest - his armor buffering the damage somewhat, but not enough to stop the shaft from driving hard into him. The second shot is far more accurate; but his defenses are better suited against it.

Nevertheless, they were not good enough.

He lets out a strangled scream that alerts his comrades and collapses to the ground.

Samir elects to use Stealth to hide more subtle until he can judge the actions of the enemy.

Stealth
1d20 + 3 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 6 + 3 = 18

Meanwhile, Tairin rushes forward closer.

Moves roughly 50 Feet and pauses just inside the treeline to study the scene.

A sudden guess of what is going on causes her to call out to her allies in the Susrah language, gambling that the Zadjites may not know that language as none of them spoke it.

[ooc]Everyone here knows the Susrah Language

"These folk are likely sotted with wine - use that if you can..."

At this time the enemy shall now act...

Perception Check to discover Ala -
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

EDIT: He cannot see Ala but he's close enough that if Ala moves he'll realize where he is.

The other men spread out into the trees and one of them moves close enough to be nearly on top of Samir and has to make a Perception Check vs. his Stealth of 18 to see if he even notices him.[/ooc]

Perception Check
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

EDIT: He fails his Perception Check and cannot see Samir - which is fairly fortunate.

The others spread out near the fires and toss more wood on them to allow them to see far better in the dim light (the light now spreads further from the campfires).

More come from the tents, including now some of the Zadjites formally, though not all.

Your shots drop the guard in his tracks as he moves through the tree cover and his scream pierces the night.

You aren't sure if anyone can see you, though; it's dark and you're hidden, so that may not work.

I'll handle Samir's move at the end of the round, for now the rest of you can act.
